I'm so glad to see this popular chain finally come to Norfolk! I especially appreciate that you can tailor the drinks sweetness to your preference. I usually go for 50% sweetness and it's perfect for me. Their most popular flavor is the winter melon and it's a delicious and refreshing drink. I love getting the herbal jelly in mine because I find bolba too chewy. The herbal jelly is very soft, like jello, and has just a mild flavor. I've also tried their seasonal sesame matcha drink which sounded weird but actually was surprisingly good. You can definitely taste the sesame which works very well in drink form. The bomb.com! I really like Kung Fu Tea! Just went for the first time this week with my kids for some slushes and a milk tea. I got the taro milk tea with bubbles and mango popping bubbles. Less sweet than the regular. The kids got an Oreo slush and a pina colada slush. Both with bubbles. This was our first time having bubbles and we didn't like it. It was chewy and flavorless so we didn't really get the point. The mango popping bubbles were amazing though! I really liked those and will have the kids try them next time. Finally got to try this place after wanting to go for as long as I can remember. It really reminded me of the drinks I used to have back in Hawaii, so it just made me love it even more. I love KFT. There's a reason why they've expanded all over Northeast now. The location of this one is great because it's in an area of Ghent where there's actually a dedicated parking lot. Ambiance: Calm. Clean. Huge. With all of the space it has, it can probably get larger tables along the wall. Has the usual KFT decor. Probably a good place to study alone or with a friend but not with a group, which is a bummer, considering its proximity to ODU and other schools. Drinks: Like every other KFT, great selection of flavors, type of drinks, and toppings. I also like how you can control the sugar at KFT. Price: This is the problem, and the reason I took 2 stars off. My cousin and I ordered 8 drinks together for our family, and we were told that we are being charged a 15% service fee for ordering 8 drinks. I half-joked that it should be the opposite: buy more and get a discount of 15%. The staff's explanation was that there are customers that come right before closing or that they can run out of ingredients. We ordered at 3pm on a Monday when it was flooding in Norfolk--meaning the likelihood of running out of ingredients or having a busy day was extremely low. Why punish customers for ordering more? If they run out of ingredients, fine. Let the customer change the order, or maybe take better inventory. If we order a lot of drinks next time, I'm splitting the order. I don't mind tipping, but being forced to tip for giving KFT more business is shady. Otherwise, customer service is always great at KFT, and again, they make great bubble tea. Just rework your pricing policies. read more

Don't get thai tea here, it isn't the Thai tea you think you're getting. Kung Fu Tea, please change your Thai tea, it's really not good and not the right tea. Edit based off response: Thai tea isn't red by coloring, it's literal red tea. I've ordered Thai tea from Thailand where I just get tea leaves and make it like any other steeped tea and it's a different tea entirely. Maybe the kind this store sells is a different type of of tea FROM Thailand but it's definitely not the Thai tea you get most places or when you order traditional Thai tea herbs. read more

Good addition to the neighborhood! Ghent definitely needed a good bubble tea spot. No daily military or student discount, which is kind of essential in this town. They do have military discounts on Monday and a different day for students. Not a lot of seating, they do have a comfy couch though. The decor is the skyline of Lower Manhattan, very cool. The prices are a little steep. The thing that bugged me about this place was the service- being from NYC bubble tea is not new to me, but bringing a local to this spot they could have used an explanation of how it worked and the staff were a little rude to her when she was trying to figure out the plastic lid on the cup. Kung Fu Tea has never disappointed me. Comfy chairs and couches are spread out around the place and they play relaxing modern music. They also have games like jenga to play while you enjoy your experience there. Not only that but their staff is very informative and quite helpful. One of the members there is Alyssa and she is always helping me try new drinks. I never would have found my favs without her help. She also took into consideration my lychee allergy and made sure that I didn't ever get a drink that had that as an ingredient. Great appreciation for the KFT crew and all their tasty drinks. I visit the Norfolk location frequently when I have the chance. Unfortunately, everytime I order ANY slush the drink is very watered down when Chabely is not there. It's very disappointing because the Mango Slush is one of my favorites. I noticed this only happens when Mike is working and not the other manager. Chabely always makes my drink correctly and the slush is always thick and not watered down. I walked into the store with a giant grin on my face, I thought to myself, "Today is the day I finally try out boba tea!" When I finally opened the door I was greeted with a giant sign filling me with instant dread, it stated that many of our items were being held back because of the Suez Canal being blocked??? I love pineapple:D I rushed to the cashier and begged, "I would love to dine on your finest piña colada liquid with your beautiful tiny black pearly balls filled to the brim madam" she stared into my soul... have I done something wrong to myself I thought? I submissively asked, "pwease" she opened her giant mouth like a kraken and screamed, "THE SUEZ CANAL IS CLOSED. NO PINEAPPLE. ORDER AGAIN." My heart dropped... how could I be so clueless, I forgot the Suez Canal was closed! I put on my game face, this isn't going to stop me, I reread the entire menu, browsing for second best item, and I found it. Regular pineapple slush. Overjoyed I hopped back to the front of the cashier and stated, "I would love to dine on your finest p- THE SUEZ CANAL IS CLOSED. NO PINEAPPLE. ORDER AGAIN MONKEY." The world fell apart right in front of me... I was embarrassed and depleted, right then and there I picked myself up and asked the cashier to order her favorite item, she quickly typed up the cost and said "75.19 DOLLAR, PAY NOW CREDIT OR CASH?"
