A quick pit stop at Kung Fu Tea to curb my recent obsession...boba tea! We have never tried Kung Fu Tea before but they offered friendly service and were quick to make our order. We have been loving the honeydew milk tea flavor and in my opinion, sugar isn't necessary to add. It is sweet and delicious on its own. This spot is small and quaint inside. Not much seating room, but it is available if you choose to sit down and enjoy your tea. They had several flavors including limited time only flavors (i.e.pumpkin and apple) Would love to see the interior updated a bit to be a bit more friendly and inviting. I've been here many times since it's been open and each time I left content with my drinks and suggestions made by the staff. It's been a while but I decided to swing on by again. There were new menu items which seemed interesting. I ask the staff what their recommendations were and they gave very high praises to the Sesame Match and Yogurt Green Tea. I decided to listen to their advices and spent the $10. I really wish I hadn't even come in. Before I even started my car, I tried both drinks and was disgusted. The sesame matcha had a funky bland chalky residue. The yogurt green tea also had a funky flavor and was not very sweet or flavorful. I've had oriental flavors such as winter melon, yakult etc before but these drinks were plain gross. I asked if I could change out the drinks for something else and was told that it was corporation policy not to remake or exchange drinks. That's very disappointing. I'm frustrated and disappointed with the service. I ordered on their app thinking my 20 minute drive would be plenty of time for the two drinks I ordered. I get there thinking my order would be ready for pickup only to be told they're a little behind and it would be at least another 30 minutes, yes THIRTY minutes in addition to the 20 minutes that have already passed since I've ordered, before they can get to my order. If there was an issue, there should be an alert on the app or something to let the customers know, especially when we have quite the drive. I'm hoping they are able to put in place some kind of push notification on their app for such delays. This is our 4th visit here and each time there were little issues here and there but the drinks were good and figure I'd show a little grace. Kung Fu Tea is either a hit or miss. I have to be completely honest, when I first tried Kung Fu Tea, I hated it. I thought my Oolong Milk Tea was too powdery and sweet and that the boba was too starchy. However, I still wanted to keep an open mind to Kung Fu Tea and so I went again and ordered the Lychee Punch in 70% sweetness. This time around, I actually really enjoyed my drink! Just tried this kind of tea for the first time ever! Loved the different options, along with the explanation of each that the person taking the order was willing to give us. We went with his recommendations and enjoyed each flavor. Teas are made fresh and served completely sealed with is a super nice surprise. The only thing I didn't love about this place and the reason for four stars instead of five, is that it is very packed inside and uncomfortably awkward. The area where you sit / order is all extremely small and doesn't allow you to really hang out and enjoy your tea on site unless you're all alone and snag the ideal spot at the bar along the window. If you're looking for a boba shop with lots of options - this is the place. I was originally drawn in by all the different jelly and boba options, but was pleased to see all the drink options as well. There are a number of different teas available, as well as the usual fruit and coffee offerings, but was most excited about the traditional flavors like red bean and mung bean. We'd never been before and the two girls working tonight were happy to show us the ropes and give drink recommendations. My husband ordered the passion fruit slush, medium sweet, with boba. He enjoyed it but said it was a little too sweet for him. I got the honey oolong tea, less sweet, with mango jelly. I liked it but wish I would have gotten boba with it too. Everything I tried was delicious (taro slush 70% sweet, longan and jujube tea 70%, kung fu milk tea 70%, and wintermelon milk green tea 100% sweet.) Best tea spot in metro KC. I just wish there was a location more up north because this place is a 30-minute drive at least from the northland. This place is small and can get packed so much to the point lines are out the door. It's absolutely worth the wait though. If you come here, GET THE FRUIT TEAS. They are absolutely delicious and have pieces of fruit in them. I got the pomelo tea which is basically sweeter grapefruit. They have edible rinds on the bottom. We have been stalking this place since we first heard they were opening in town. I saw on their Facebook page that they were finally planning to have their Grand Opening on Jan. 30, but their followers would have a chance to go before then. We took a chance and drove by and saw their "Open" sign on. When we walked in, we were informed that they were only having a soft opening and were only able to accept cash. Convenient Overland Park location for boba! Super small shop with very limited seating. They have a wide selection of drinks and they can adjust them easily with many diffent topping (charge extra .50 cents for bubbles), adjustments to sweetness, and ice level. They even offer mini bubbles but I'm not a fan since they are too small to chew and they flood your mouth with each sip. Kung Fu Tea? What a great place to satisfy my always lingering boba cravings! Before my first visit to this nationwide chain, I was told this location tends to make their drinks on the sweeter side, so I was advised to get 70% and lower for the sweetness level. I did, and I ended up being really disappointed by the drink. Not deterred, I went again and ordered a different drink with the full sweetness and loved it! The drinks at Kung Fu Tea are indeed a hit-or-miss and you must combine the correct sweetness level to the drink of your choice (or else you'll end up pretty disappointed). My all time favorite drinks are the Lychee Punch and Honey Oolong Milk Tea. For both of these drinks I always stay with the full sweetness and add some boba. Otherwise, the taste is lacking if you opt for less sweetness (though I do have a sweet tooth). During the winter, I always order the Honey Oolong Milk Tea hot with boba. A must try if you've never tried hot boba! I wish there was a closer Kung Fu Tea near me, but I guess I don't mind the weekly drives for the sweet tapioca pearls and great drinks! read more

So far, I been here three times and this is now my go-to place for decent boba tea. The first time was before they opened and they were doing training and I got the Large Mango Slush with Aloe/Mango Jelly with 70% Sweetness level - it was a little too sweet for me and they had half of my cup full of the jellies which I didn't like much of. Second time, I got the Medium Pineapple Slush with Mango Jelly and 70% Sweetness level - It was still too much jelly for me but I liked the Pineapple slush, which wasn't too sweet. Third time, I got the Medium Strawberry Milk Slush (with Non-dairy creamer which is good if you're lactose intolerant) with Mango Jelly and 70% Sweetness level. I specifically asked to do little jelly and it was the perfect amount. Came before the Grand opening. It's a cute little joint with simple but nice design. The service was quick and staff was very friendly to answer any questions. Drinks here are customizable from level of sweetness to the amount of ice, and they have a variety of toppings. However, The Kungfu House milktea is subtle to non-existent of tea flavor...tasted like 90% of milk. I even ordered with less milk and more tea but it was still too much milk. I hope they work on their milk & tea ratios because I don't want to buy a cup of milk...it is called Kung Fu tea not Kung Fu milk. Average cup will cost you about $3.25-$3.50 not including toppings. Toppings are 50 cents-$1.00. You do get quite a bit of toppings so if you want more of the drink, let them know to not put as much of the toppings. read more

Went in for their opening, was really excited to try this chain! However, it didn't live up to the expectations I had. This location can't compare to the other locations I've had in other states, and can't compare to better boba places in KC area. First, the store is super tiny! Five people in line to order practically fills up the entire store front. Not ideal for long visits. Their Kung Fu Milk tea was sub-par. No too sweet, but borderline bland. We didn't adjust sweetness to our drink and took it the way it came so I expected it to be sweet, but I'll have to agree with another reviewer below: the tea tasted more like milk than tea... I also tried their mung bean blended drink. The mung bean flavor was good and not too sweet, but not as smooth as I thought it would be. At first, it was really thick and hard to drink through the straw; I had to stir it around and wait for the ice to melt and dilute the drink a little so that I could drink it. The boba was good, a little too sweet though. Also, it was strangely warm and it definitely warmed up our drinks faster than we'd like. On top of this, they were gooey which made them hard to drink up. However, texture was chewy and flavor was nice. EDIT: I've come here a couple times because the app sends you free money every now and then to spend and I'll have to say this is the only reason I'll go to Kung Fu Tea; I won't pay full price for tea at this location. I've tried other things off their menu in hopes of finding the perfect drink (see, I gave this place a lot of shots). 1. Their herbal jelly was suuuuuper bitter. Yuck. 2. Their boba as other people have mentioned was ROCK HARD the last few times I got it. As mentioned above, I had one good experience with their boba (my first experience), and I usually get either herbal jelly or pudding so I don't always get their boba. I love the Kung fu tea in Chicago so much. So I was so happy when I knew they would open in Kansas City. I spent 2 hours to drive there and bought 10 cups of drinks. But I was so disappointed. 1. The bubbles were too hard in the middle. 2. I got a wrong milk tea which had no milk inside. 3. The milk cap was salty and looks like overnight, not so fresh. I wanted to make a phone call when I found my milk tea was just black tea, but there was no phone number on yelp, google, Facebook or their official website. It's a little ridiculous how small it is inside .... it's smaller than a boba shop in NYC! Like a previous reviewer said, this is DEFINITELY a grab and go place. With so many customers, the wait actually wasn't very long. I got the milk tea with 30% sweetness and no ice. The flavor was definitely a little off.. it tasted more like milk than tea with 0% sweetness. I know Kung Fu hasn't officially opened yet, but they definitely need to work on getting the flavor right. This is probaby THE smallest KFT location that I've been to. It's very much a grab-and-go place rather than a sit-and-hangout one. A counter at the window and one small table with two chairs takes up most of the room in the store. If there are more than just a couple of customers in at a time it feels pretty crowded. With that being said, other than the small size it is your pretty standard KFT. KFT has a fairly wide selection of drinks, some more adventurous than others, and since it is a chain they are usually pretty consistent with how they make them. That being said, you can do a lot to customize your drink (toppings, sugar level, etc) to your liking. They make your drinks pretty quickly and accurately, but since it really is just get in and get out, there's not much else to comment on the service.
