I was looking for a lunchtime treat and was excited to try a new bubble tea place! I've almost never had bubble tea that I haven't enjoyed, but nevertheless Kung Fu Tea had some unique qualities that I particularly liked. Focusing on the tea itself, their drinks are pretty customizable. Maybe I just need to explore more in the realm of boba places, but I was excited to see that you can even customize how much sugar you want in your tea. Hadn't experienced that with boba before! I went with the 30% sugar option because I generally don't do sweet tea, but this was my first time ordering here so I wanted to get a gauge on the sweetness. I ordered the taro milk tea (my go to, I'll admit) with the mango jellies (I'm a sucker for those). It was delicious! I now know for next time that I can definitely go with the "zero" sugar option, because for me even the 30% was just slightly sweeter than I'd normally go for, but it was still very tasty. I can't even imagine how sweet the 120% sugar would be! Next time I stop in, I'm going to try something new! But as far as my go-to taro milk tea, I'd say Kung Fu is definitely up to snuff. read more

We had the mango slush last time, decided to try out their passion fruit slush today, added mango pops and the bobas to it too. They have these big wicker tables and big cushy wicker chairs in the front. There's quite a lot of counter seats and lots of low and high top seats too. If you like crispy fried chicken (like me) TKK Fried Chicken is the place to be! They also offer a wide variety of teas (kungfuteausa) with a lot of topping options. I guess I don't get the whole relationship between Kung Fu Tea and the TKK Chicken establishment. That being said I can only reflect on TKK chicken as I haven't yet tried any of the teas from Kung Fu. I ordered two 3-piece chicken combination dinners. 1 regular recipe and one spicy recipe. For just under $9 per dinner you get: 3 strips of chicken ( think chicken fingers) a biscuit and 1 side ( slaw, mash potatoes w/ gravy or shishito peppers) The chicken is quite good. A light batter and moist chicken with a crispy, crunchy fried finish. Depending on your appetite, the dinner combo may not cut it. The sides are small but very tasty. I'll try the quarter chicken dinner next time as the chicken is quite good. FYI, there are no takeout menus available. There's an app your supposed to download if you're so inclined. read more

Wow! This place has amazing bubble tea! Ever since I had heard about this place on Yelp I was excited to try their food. I really wanted to experience TKK chicken, since it is so unique to the area. I was also excited that this place had red beans on their tea menu, I do not always see that at every bubble tea location in the metro Detroit area. We ordered the taro slush with red beans and Oreo! Simply amazing! Best bubble tea flavor ever! We also tried an Italian coffee slush, very good. It had a bold coffee flavor. We recently tried another bubble tea place in the area and it was very watery. Not here, it really met some high expectations. We also tried crystal bubbles. They tasted like lychees. Since I am not a big fan of the traditional tapioca, these are a great alternative for a similar consistency, but a nice taste. I love their selection, too many flavors to try! Since I love having extra, I could see myself getting the taro plus another tea for later. My daughter and I had heard a lot about TKK chicken and could not wait to try it! I was super excited to final have a kwa kwa bao, which is chicken skin filled with sticky rice, pork and mushroom. It was scrumptious! I love sticky rice and always order it when I get dim sum, to finally have a fast food form of sticky rice is mind blowing. I just wish they would sell them separate and not is a combo. I would definitely buy multiple to take home! Since we had the kwa kwa combo, we selected the mild crispy breast. It was very juicy, not at all dry, and not at all fatty, like some chicken joints in the area. It was a very good piece of chicken. With the combo we ordered the cheese curds which were very good as well. All of the sides look really great, I would like to try the shishito peppers next time. We tried the crispy chicken sandwich. I ordered the original with no extra toppings. Now what I am about to say is going to be controversial, but you can try it as well and see but...this chicken sandwich was better than Chick Fil-A! The bun was nice, soft and fluffy. The sauce and pickles were nice, and the chicken was very thick and juicy. I would return for this sandwich alone, which should be in the mix of the chicken sandwich wars. Very good!!! Last, we ordered the tenders. They were okay, a bit small, and very pricey for what you got. Not sure I would get those again. Another fun aspect is the sauces you can get on the side. I had not read about them, or seen anything about them, in fact, I might have missed them, but they were located at the back near the straws and napkins. You are able to pour your own into plastic containers, plus they offer lids for an easy way to take home. I decided to try all of the sauces. They were really delicious. Ranch is always my standard dip, their was very good, most fast food places do not do ranch well, this place does! My favorite was the garlic parmesian, it tasted similar to the sauce at a popular wing chain. The BBQ was good. Their honey mustard was very good with a bit of spice, something that might go on egg rolls. They had two habanero sauces, a tropical and a mango, both with a nice spice, but not too overpowering. Their last sauce was a nice tangy brown sauce, I wish I remembered what it was, I should have taken a picture, oh well! They were all worth a try! The downside to this place though is price. It is a bit pricey for the portion size, even the tea was a bit small. It said medium and looked like a small, but I would order the large next time. I guess it is comparable to a Starbucks, but it seems you to need to pay for all of the extras you put in the tea, some places come with one topping to start then charge extra for the rest. This would not stop me from getting the toppings those, I like their unique selection. The chicken was kind of expensive compared to most comparable places with rather small portions. Again, this will not at all stop us from coming back, my daughter just finished her meal and is already craving more! But it would be more or a treat to get food here. I would most likely stop by more often for tea and perhaps try their macaron. Nonetheless, come here! Try this place! Best tea in the area! Great people working here. Phenomenal taste! Love visiting this place whenever I'm in town! My usual order is a taro or original milk tea with bubbles. I like the option of choosing 50% sweetness as I don't prefer the taste of highly sugary drinks. The bubble teas here have been made fairly consistently and quickly. As a Taiwanese American, boba tea is a staple in my diet. While Kung Fu Tea is a US-based chain that originated in NY and not from Taiwan, the birthplace of boba, it's a pretty solid choice given the very limited options in Metro Detroit. I was pleasantly surprised to be driving through Rochester one day and happened to notice some "now open" banners flying. Curious, I looked over and almost SWERVED MY CAR OFF THE ROAD seeing that it was a Kung Fu Tea of all things that opened in the middle of the pandemic - giving me a shining beacon of hope in this dumpster fire of a year! I have been coming here at least 1-2 times a week since they opened & have tried SEVERAL things on their menu. I haven't encountered any drink so far that I haven't enjoyed! Kung Fu Tea has a wide selection of delicious drinks & high-quality topping options on their menu! Some of my personal favorites are their yogurt drinks (I love Yakult), milk cap anything (pairs exceptionally well with winter melon or matcha), & the Wow lactose-free milk drinks (important!). Bonus: TKK Fried Chicken! Their chicken is so good. It occupies the same space as Kung Fu Tea and they pair PERFECTLY together, so make sure to pick up some chicken with your boba tea! I'm a bit upset that on DoorDash Kung Fu Tea & TKK Fried Chicken are separated and have separate menus, so if you want to order from both, you'd have to pay for twice the delivery (if you don't have the DashPass). That's a bit of a bummer given the two are located in the same exact building & behind the same counter!! Kung Fu Tea online ordering: Make sure to download their app & join their loyalty program for free drinks & discounts as you reach new reward levels. You can also order ahead on the app, which is convenient. When they had first opened, they were very quick to prepare the drinks so often you would only have to order about 5 minutes in advance and your order would be ready. But recently, within the past few weeks when I've been placing orders on the app, they've gotten a bit slower where I'll arrive after 5, sometimes 10 minutes even, and they won't have my order ready & the in the case of my most recent time going in to pick up 10 minutes after placing, they hadn't even seen my order yet to begin making. I'm not sure what's going on with their system, but it seems like sometimes they're confused as to if they even have my order done because it never appears to be under my name. Hopefully this is just a problem unique to me, but wanted to share for awareness & to encourage people to maybe wait up to 15 minutes before going in if you place your order online. If the drinks are finished earlier than that, they put it into the fridge for you, so you don't need to worry about your cold drinks just sitting out there. If you order TKK Chicken as well on the app, I would recommend allotting even more time before heading in because the app estimate will not be correct. But it does take time to cook the chicken to perfection and it's definitely worth the wait / planning ahead! read more

First time here- I came with my boyfriend because we love boba tea. The amount of options was good- the menu on the wall was like reading a point 2 font size up at the top- not so good. We placed our order of 2 drinks. We sat around... we waited for our number to be called. We waited every bit of 20 minutes. His was right, mine wasn't, so I prompted them to look at the label that said "slush". I was told it would be remade right away. We stood around for another 10 minutes while more drinks were sent out to other customers that waited far less time than us. I had to ask again, and it was just being made then. I don't know why a business would continue to pump out drinks and ignore righting a wrong for a customer who has already paid and waited FAR too long for their order to begin with. We could have already gone to a restaurant, ordered and had our meals out at this point. They weren't rude about it, but need to get priorities in check for customer service. Maybe invest in another machine to make the slushes- project what you're selling the most and be able to accommodate orders in a timelier fashion. I love boba, and like I said the options here are great, but there are other similar establishments available in the metro area with less of the hassle. read more

I was happy to see one out in the Midwest as they were quite local to me where I am originally from. One day I was craving boba and I knew that I wanted to go to this location that just opened up fairly recently. I walked in and immediately went to look at the menu and figure out what I wanted to order. I thought I would keep it classic and just get a Kung Fu Milk Tea with boba. The drink was solid and definitely hit the spot after a long day of work. Although, the one thing I did notice while making my order was the below-average service from the staff. Maybe it was because they were all teenagers but I got the bare minimum of service as a customer. Not a huge deal but hopefully something that shapes up and improves with time. My friends and I looooove boba, so we were thrilled to learn that a new Kung Fu Tea had opened in Rochester Hills, a mile closer than the location in Sterling Heights, which we generally trek out for. We ordered five drinks through their mobile app, because they were hosting a Memorial Day special (buy 3 get 1). I ordered my typical KFT drink -- a honey oolong milk tea with 30% sugar and light ice. Usually when I order this drink at the Sterling Heights location, they specify that there is no additional sweetener added and that the amount of honey is adjusted. Because I was ordering online, we could not have this exchange, and I fear this is where things went wrong. When I received my drink, it was sickly sweet! I have a pretty high sugar tolerance, but this -- I couldn't even finish the drink because it was too sweet. Furthermore, the bubbles were a little on the firmer side -- not as soft and squishy ("QQ" I believe they call it? At least that's what I've learned from Buzzfeed Worth It, an online video series I would highly recommend!) as I've had it at the other location. Considering this was my first boba experience in about two months due to COVID-19, it was pretty disappointing. It is a new location though, so maybe there are growing pains. read more
