I wish there was a way for me to vote 4.5. To start off, if you're coming here just for the ramen, you've chosen the right place! Not exactly sure what other ingredients they added to their pork broth, but the taste is wonderful! The chashu was cooked to perfection and they added some (pickled?) mushrooms that complemented the overall taste. My ONLY complaint was the Kara Age that I ordered. For some reason, the pieces were really small and they tasted/felt as if someone just reheated frozen chicken in the microwave. There was no crisp, the taste was dull. It might have just been an off day, so I'll have to try it again next time. But yeah, all in all, the ramen is amazing. Get it. read more

Food is really Great but service is horrible. We had to get up numerous times just to ask for things like water, silverware, togo packages, etc. The server was virtually nonexistent. But we tried a verity of options on the menu and it was delectable! The direction of the food is clear and executed with clear vision. Whole Mackerel fish with good flavor, selected pickles, ramen broth on point, belly bao was a little dry but taste was there and presentation as a whole was given meticulous care. I really want to give all 5 stars but couldn't justify a rate so high when we only saw our server once and it was while she was seating us. Seriously we had to track her down just to pay someone to leave. She wasn't even in the restaurant... and there were only 2 other tables (5 top and a 2 top) other than us. Not sure if she just didn't care or was just having a bad day. However we fully intend on going back and hopefully make a follow up review with service matching the exquisite food. I was desperately in need of a break, this place and their vibe totally washed away the stress of the week. Went there on my day off and since is a Tuesday, it was kind of empty, and that is absolutely great since on the moment we're avoiding large crowds. The staff and the tables were very clean and straight forward. Got there with my 2 kiddos and wife and the staff was very accommodating, this adds all the extra points available. So if you got kids and thinking about going, DO IT!! Now food!! Loved the menu short and sweet straight to the point and no weird or dubious food. Since was my first time got the Tonkotsu ramen and a bowl of noodles for my son. An order of the pork buns and we were set. Also, ordered myself a little cocktail, I'm a gin lover so got a "Fitzgerald" fresh, savory, cold, clean cocktail. Definitely ordering again. Portions are very well, for a big fella like me, couldn't finish it all. Congrats to the owners/chefs/staff nailed it. See you next Tuesday. read more

I stayed at the Hyatt hotel for the meeting, and after I got tired of steak and Mexican foods around the area, I wanted to eat something different. I found this store on Yelp, it was 20 min walking distance from the hotel but I gave it a try. I arrived at 11 am and I was the first customer of the day. I ordered a tonkotsu noodle and gyoza. The owner gave me a complimentary edamame on the house, telling me that because I'm here for the first time. Edamame was roasted and partially blackened. They were mixed with sesame oil and sprinkled with fish extract (dashi) powder. Interesting way of using fish extract powder, but edamame was a bit too oily for me. Gyoza was good. They were definitely different from frozen gyoza that you can purchase at the supermarket. The owner said they make gyoza from scratch by themselves. Slightly pricy for 4 pieces, but it was pretty good. Tonkotsu noodle was excellent. Usually ramens from famous franchaised stores are very tasty but very salty. This one is very tasty but not salty. It was very savory by itself. I often go to ramen stores in big cities, but ramen from this almost unknown and somewhat isolated store was probably one of the best ramens I ever had in the USA. read more

So glad we decided to try this spot out during a recent visit to San Antonio. The space is a little strange and connected to the Cherrity Bar (wasn't super apparent to us at first). The service felt a little slow considering there were hardly any patrons, but the food was OUTSTANDING. They hooked us up with an order of charred edamame since it was our first time and I think that's a brilliant move. I don't even want any other edamame for the rest of my life. Everytime I go, I have the best experience. The Tonkotsu broth is rich and creamy. The pork belly melts in your mouth! Shitaake mushrooms compliments the ramen. They add roasted garlic in the ramen as well which is to die for !!!! My favorite appetizer items (small things) is the gyoza, and kotsu sliders. Their staff and head chef are friendly. For every 10$ you spend they give you chips so you can chose what charity you donate to I've been to lots of ramen bars in San Antonio, and Kuriya is my GO TO and in my opinion the best ramen bar in town. Whenever I am able to go I always bring new people to share the amazing experience with. Me and my boyfriend go about every 2 - 3 weeks. Holy Bajeezus this place absolutely SMACKED. I recently moved to San Antonio and the first thing I looked for was a ramen shop. I love my ramen and have already tried about 3 places here excluding this one and WOW does this place rise above. We started off with Gyoza which honestly I will say was some of the best i've ever had. This place isn't afraid to put its own twists on classic South Asian street food and god damn does it WORK. For our entree we got Tonkotsu and Tantanmen ramen. Both were AMAZING. Tonkotsu is an extremely tedious broth to get right, but these guys got it down. 100% my new favorite noodle shop in SA. Parking is conveniently on the other side of the road, but there's a chance of getting full quickly on the busy times of the week. Here we ordered the chicken wings, shumai, and the katsudon. They also have a bar so be sure to order a beer or a glass of wine with your food. The food came out in about 15 minutes and that's when it became infested with flies! I did notice there's fly traps but there were way too many to keep them away from our food. It was to the point there were flies lined up on the chair waiting for a chance to get a bite. I came here for the $6 miso ramen lunch special with some of my friends. Their lunch special ran from 11am-4pm. This restaurant only recently started becoming popular, so they seem a bit short staffed. We were quickly seated when we arrived, but it took awhile for us to even get our menus. At the end of our meal, we waited around awhile to get our checks as well. Since we were first-timers, we were given a free edamame appetizer which was very nice of them! I ordered the miso ramen with an add-on of shiitake mushrooms which was only an extra dollar! All the food I got was much better than I expected it to be, and the shiitake mushrooms really packed a punch! They were so full of flavor that they tasted like they had been drenched in a sweet soy sauce for a little too long. The mushroom flavor really overpowered the soup, but the noodles were at a perfectly chewy consistency! My friend ordered the chicken yakisoba and really enjoyed it! The prices were also quite reasonable. TLDR: I was pleased with my food overall, but the service was slow. read more

This place is located right next to the Alamodome. You can park behind the building or in the Alamodome parking lot. The vibe is really nice, and on Saturdays they have concerts. The food was so good, and they give to a variety of different charities, so ask them about that. Our food was absolutely amazing. The wings were perfectly cooked, though be careful with the spicy wings. My pork ramen was a work of art for sure, with the shiitake mushrooms being a standout star. We tried a few things from the menu and pretty much everything was better than we expected. The appetizer portions are generous, which made them quite a deal on happy hour, and well flavored. Most of the items had pleasantly assertive flavors, which made the tonkotsu broth kind of fade into the background. The ramen was still good, but the broth was probably the weakest part of the meal. I tend to like my broth saltier, so I'll probably try one of the shoyu or miso variations next time. Staff was super friendly and attentive, and your dinner helps fund charities! read more

An excellent surprise! In town for a convention, we were looking for something different than the usual, and Kuriya was just a short walk from the convention center. Kuriya offered delicious Tonkatsu, a tasty pickle plate, and Palomas that we could've slurped by the pitcher. We also had unusual grilled edamame that were excellent! We even got a $6 first-timer discount. Kuriya is odd in that it is seemingly part of the Cherrity bar, and there's a stage in back of the old house with its dining rooms. Charity is a big part of their mission, even providing diners a QR code to vote for their charity of the month. There is also an opportunity to make an additional donation with a tip-like extra line on the receipt -- another first for me. Also, the decor includes interesting local art available for purchase. Altogether, Kuriya/Cherrity is a wonderful find with diverse clientele, and I'd be a regular if Kuriya were in my town! read more

Stack on stacks of disappointment. The area is near train tracks and of course you will hear the train. The items were overpriced. Portions were small. Flavors were not palatable. It did attract the local flies of the area. This just made the experience the more annoying as the flies just straight dive bombed at the food with no remorse. I was able to kill 2 fat ones. Had a few items from the menu. Tebasaki - Didnt seem like twice fried and just seemed soggy Kaaragi - soggy and small portioned Belly Bao - extremely thin sliced pork belly on a bao bun Bao - not that great of a flavor Ramen - tastes like if it had been left out for awhile and the noodles absorbed the moisture of the cream broth. Not a great flavor to have. All these items costing almost $70. Just another San Antonio disappointment. read more

Was in town on business and got a hankering, as I often do, for ramen. This place was close - walked over from the Convention Center Hyatt - so i figured i would. And boy am I glad I did! The wait staff was super friendly and pleasantly diverse. As a first time customer I was offered complimentary grilled edamame, never had it prepared that way but for free, sure! The twice fried wings where cooked to perfection and the sauce on them is making me hungry again just thinking about it. The little meatball where great and also came with a very delicious sauce. My tonkasu ramen rich and flavorful, but i had filled up so much on the half off appetizers i was unable to finish all the yummy noodles. Family friendly atmosphere, the interior is not much to look at as it's located in an old house but don't be fooled by external appearances the food here is excelent. My wife and I tried this based on good reviews. It's was a great choice!! We went on a Saturday around 1pm. It wasn't very busy at all. We were greeted and seated right away. Very friendly staff, art from local artist on the aged walls. Outside area looked like a fun time! THE FOOD WAS AWESOME!! We had fried mushrooms and the sweet and spicy wings as appetizers. Vegetable and tonkotsu ramen for the entrees. The broths had great deep flavor. Get the spicy sauce on the side. I added half of it to my ramen for a pretty decent kick. We attended an all day marching band event at the Alamodome and I was so happy to find that this place was super close and had great reviews! It was just a short walk across the parking lot (glad I didn't have to leave and pay twice for parking!). The service was good and the ramen was delicious. 100% a must visit, if I could rate this higher I would. Started with the charred edemame, a simple appetizer elevated to the next level with great sesame sweetness. As a main dish, had the tonkatsu ramen which blew me away. The broth had great depth of flavor, very creamy, and the nori on the side slowly added a great slightly oceany umami flavor that greatly elevated the broth. The ramen came with mushrooms, fried garlic, and crispy roast pork belly. The pork belly was great and somehow maintained its crispness within the broth giving a necessary change of texture to the dish.
