Came in on an Wednesday afternoon. Empty. One guy at the bar. Ordered the pretzel as an app and I watched a guy at the service station put it in the microwave. So right out of the gate we're not doing well. Once the soup got here, they redeemed themselves. French onion soup was delicious. Lots of onions, perfect amount of cheese, croutons were seasoned well. Now I will say, the pretzel was ok. The honey horseradish sauce they served with it though? Outstanding. I'd eat that by the spoonful. Be careful though, it DOES pack a punch. I had the Corned beef on light rye and my wife had the tuna sandwich. My bread was nice and soft, well flavored. The corned beef was delicious as well, even though it's just a sandwich. Hers? She liked the tuna, but was skeptical about the bread. It was a bit more firm for her liking, but she DID ask for French bread. Didn't take away from the fact it was excellent. Potato salad that came with it? Meh. It's potato salad. Nothing snazzy about it. But it was still appetizing. Just wouldn't say it's out of the park. Overall, I'd like to try a few more things from the menu as they have a range of delicious items. This is a unique restaurant, the food is 99% homemade, soups are delicious, giant pretzel with homemade sauces, bread bowls, every kind of sandwich and pasta or potato salad. Again, homemade. They don't make burgers and fries. I'd prefer a real cake dessert, but there giant cookie is pretty darn good. I came here for lunch on a weekday with my wife. The place was relatively empty. We got seated at a booth, ordered our drinks, and looked over the menu. I decided on the Hot Wisco. This is a pile of smoked ham and crispy bacon on a pretzel bun. It comes with beer cheese sauce. It worked better to dip the sandwich in the cheese sauce than to put it in the sandwich. The ham was tender and thinly sliced, and the bacon was extra crispy. The cheese sauce added a creamy, rich flavor to the sandwich. There were a few potato options that came with the meal. I chose the German potato salad. The potato salad was warm and loaded with bacon bits. It was a nice compliment to the Hot Wisco. I also ordered a bowl of the soup of the day, which was sausage tortellini soup. This soup was packed with flavor. The sausage was chorizo. It had some heat, but not mouth burning spicy. The broth was packed with flavor also. The tortellini was overcooked, probably from sitting in a large batch in a kettle. This was my first time here, but it certainly won't be my last. read more

I would describe this restaurant as a Deli Plus business. The menu is heavily focused on hot and cold sandwiches which it does very well, but also has a fairly large assortment of appetizers, soups, salads, wraps and a very limited "dinner" menu to choose from as well. For my meal here I had the turkey Club made with Fresh French bread. The ingredients were very fresh with a generous amount of Turkey and Bacon used on the sandwich (no skimping here!). Most importantly the sandwich was quite tasty. For my side I had the "World Famous" house made potato salad (actually called this on the menu) which was quite good but probably a tad short of world famous (: . Relative to the restaurant and staff, the restaurant itself is a bit rustic/dark where it has a retro old school vibe to it (think 1970's). Staff as most of the businesses are in this area was quite friendly with excellent follow up throughout the meal and a definite plus for this business. Overall, we had a very pleasant dining experience and definately would recommend this restaurant especially if you a fan of "good" deli sandwiches. read more

Stopped in for a late lunch, it was pretty quiet. We took a seat and shortly after had a waitress take our drink order. She brought the drinks, and took our order for food after a few recommendations. The food came out quickly and everything was good. Looks like there are plenty of tables and a cozy environment. This place is amazing! The drinks are super cheap (compared to Milwaukee) and great tasting. They even have a few larger drinks to share between people. The sandwiches come on homemade bread which is baked fresh daily. I highly recommend the Cranberry Turkey sandwich, the focaccia bread was so soft and perfect. read more

Great Two Rivers secret! Always a great treat when visit Two Rivers. The dry rub ribs that they serve on certain nights cannot be beat.

I also had the "hot" thin sliced pork sandwich which was Not good and was lukewarm to cool. It was supposed to come with onion. Had one small onion slice on top that did not seem to be fresh. The sliced pork was as from a deli in a grocery store, processed meat with little flavor. It was quite a letdown. I had to ask them to warm it up. Terrible. Not anywhere near what some restaurants would serve as a pork tenderloin, which this was not Th other people seemed to like their food. Another person had a cold pork sandwich that used the same type of meat, unappetizing. One had the tuna melt and liked it. One loves the chickens salad sandwich. I don't know who is running this place but the menu lacks interest to me. I studied the menu before I went and did not care for most of what I saw. I would not buy this type of thin sliced pork in a grocery store. Someone came out the owner, or kitchen person, and seemed to want to please. I do not want to return to this restaurant. Great German pub! Cozy charm and great German decor! The staff was incredibly welcoming and answered all our questions with great attitudes! They serve chips and their special sauce at the tables...for free! Think kettle cooked chips with a horseradish/mayo type sauce to put on them. So good. The menu had tons of sandwiches to choose from...I got the Cubanito...delicious and got the potato salad with it. Yum! The waitress said they make the potato salad fresh in house and it is such a hit people will ask for it to be shipped to them when they can't get to town for it! Sadly they can't ship it they said haha. We shared a pitcher of the red sangria and it was pretty good. Not overly sweet which was nice...was good. They have a pretty good range of beers to choose from as well as Mules and a full bar of others. Would definitely stop back when I visit Two Rivers again. read more

Good service! Staff was really nice and fast. Had smoked pulled pork nachos that were out of the bag tortilla chips with shredded cheese. The cheese concreted everything together and made the dish hard to eat. My husband was in town for work for several weeks and I was up to visit for a weekend and he insisted on taking me to one of his regular places. Kurtz's is nothing fancy, but has been around since 1904 so I can appreciate the history and ambiance. We stopped in for dinner on a Thursday night and were greeted and seated immediately. My husband ordered a beer and I went for my usual Chardonney. We ordered a soft pretzel with cheddar cheese and mustard for an appetizer. The pretzel was done perfectly and if I ordered I again, I would go without the cheese (and I love cheese) and stick with just the mustard. I'm a sucker for a good reuben so I couldn't resist ordering one here. It was a little different than the standard reuben, but very good. The corned beef was sliced very thin and was super lean. They were a little skimpy with the kraut. The sandwich included their horseradish sauce, which was really just mayo and horseradish (not a mayo fan!). The rye bread was great and the sandwich was just toasted rather than slathered in butter and grilled, which I really appreciated. Sandwiches come with a side and I ordered the cole slaw, but they accidentally served with potato salad. The potato salad was great and our server was very apologetic and offered to bring out a side of cole slaw as well, but I declined. She also brought us a side of the chips to try since we originally couldn't decide what sides to order. The chips were kettle style and served with a side of the horseradish mayo. My husband ordered the roll braten which was very lean, thin sliced pork tenderloin served on a nice toasty baguette, which he loved. He also ordered the potato salad as his side and said it was some of the best he has had. This place is old school, no frills, with friendly, helpful servers (who have probably been working here for years). I've been here years before and never had bad food , till this time. The soup was thick and gooey, my rueben was made on toasted light rye instead of dark rye and not grilled crispy. There also was no 1000 island on it and the one waitress was so busy she could barely keep up so by the time she came back I was almost done. One lady in our party ordered the nightly special chicken Alfredo... it was cut up breaded chicken tenders with a few dry noodles with cheese melted on top... void of Alfredo sauce. The rib special ordered was good...the Dijon turkey sandwich could have used some Dijon I am told. The chips and sauce were good but for 7 of us we only got two little paper bowls and no refills. Needed to try after the good reviews but wasn't all that impressed. Decor is a mix of German and 1970's Wisconsin Supper Club (this isn't a put-down). Cozy booths in the bar area and tables in the back. Dimmed lighting was nice. Not sure why there were cases of beer stacked between the bar and back dining room. The restaurant has a German feel and they serve a few German beers on tap but don't expect any real German food. You can say it maybe has a German "flair" but that's it. We were surprised by the potato chips in a paper tray with a squirt bottle of horseradish mayo served shortly after seating. Our biggest issue was with the food. It just lacked flavor and had very little seasoning. The smoked deviled eggs were bland. My ham and turkey sandwich was dry and I never tasted the dijon sauce that was supposedly in it. Again, not bad but I needed to doctor it with mustard when I ate the leftovers the next day. The potato salad too, I wanted to really enjoy it but couldn't quite get there. Beer selection is fairly small but they have one of my favorites (Hacker-Pschorr Weisse). Food menu was adequate; not extensive but something for everyone. Portion size was good and prices were reasonable. Service was friendly and the food arrived quickly. We weren't disappointed and were glad we gave it a go but will look elsewhere next time we're in town. read more

We have been to Two Rivers for years. And Kurtz's is my brother's favorite place there and the food has always been pretty good, but the Reuben I had earlier this month is the worst I've ever had: partially toasted dry un-grilled wheat bread, essentially no sauerkraut, no cheese and a dab of some kind of not thousand island dressing. They give you a light horseradish sauce with chips before the meal comes & I had to keep adding that to eat it. Hopefully this was a one time experience but I have to say - watch out. I will pay more attention next time & if I get the same thing it is going back. read more

I've been to Kurtz's a handful of times, and have yet to be disappointed by the quality of their food. From sandwiches to salads, they are just top-notch in the Two Rivers area. They also have a really wide selection of beers that are worth giving a try. The interior is different, and I don't mean that in a bad way! There are some way cool vintage signs that decorate the dining area, that make for something interesting to look at while waiting for your beverage, or for awkward pauses between casual conversation. I do have one qualm though, which keeps it from being 5 stars. For the price you pay for their food, it isn't a lot. Now, I'm not saying that it's super sparse, or anything like that, but if you're looking for a dinner-sized portion, this isn't the place for you. For a light lunch, definitely, but I've left here with a hungry boyfriend after eating. He's a bottomless pit, so that's not Kurtz's fault by any means, but if I'm paying over $20 for two people to eat we should both leave feeling (mostly) full. read more

A true, Wisconsin, neighborhood "Deutches Eck" By all means stop if you are driving through town. I had the "Kurtz Burger," a tasty sliced beef sandwich, and my wife had the Turkey LT. Both were quite good. The beer was an excellent Krombacher, both sweet and bitter. The service prompt and friendly. Keep in mind that this is a neighborhood place run by "salt of the earth" small town folks. Please don't think this is Chicago or even Milwaukee.
