I read the reviews before taking my son to get his haircut here. One review stood out to me as the person was saying that the atmosphere was cold and no one had welcomed him as he entered. I wanted to see for myself since I know alot of people that get haircuts there and have nothing but great things to say. As we walked in they really were not welcoming. But at the last moment (good timing too because I was about to bitch lol)someone asked me if I needed help. From there on it was smooth. My son's barber was super nice and did a great job on my son's haircut. He was the only one that told us bye lol but I think they only talk to those that they already know. Other than that haircut was on point. I would definitely go there again but they definitely need to work on customer service/engagement. read more

Walked in and usual barbershop focus and every chair was full so good sign for talent wise. LoLo cut my sons hair. I was worried only because he has 4c texture hair(AfricanAmerican/corse hair). Fantastic service! Old school barbershop with an upgrade, Love it! I saw the sign on Nimitz and turned in to check it out. I'm 63 and I had a pony tail that was looking shabby and asked if they had an opening and BANG just like that he squeezed me in. I looked around and saw these braddahs cutting and I was amazed at how fast, professional, and great these guys were. These guys made me look good! I asked for 1/2 inch all the way around and this guy took it to the next level! The amount of detail was awesome. He gave me a fade in the back and even trimmed my beard, mustache, and eyebrows! We were in search for a barbershop to go to for my then fiancé (husband now) and our two older sons to cut their hair for our wedding. We're very picky on who touches their hair especially since it takes a while for it to grow out. This barbershop was one of two that we were thinking of going to and it just so happened to be not far from my parent's house. We walked in on Wednesday afternoon and Austin was able to book all three last minute on Friday (the day before our wedding). Their haircuts came out just as we asked. He also did a really great job on my husband's beard and mustache. Couldn't have chosen a better place. We will definitely be coming back again if we're ever in town!! Ahhhh, the art of Haircutting. It truly is an art: a Barber must be able to visualize the best look on a client's head and take into consideration a client's physical attributes in order to present the best coiffure. The Barber utilizes precise determination when cutting those lovely locks, and looks to enhance a clients overall physical look, all while familiarizing themselves with the contours of their client's dome in order to create the perfect Masterpiece, the Haircut. Finding a great barber is hard; it's even harder for me when I have a lot of dips and dents from all the fights I've been in and all the adolescent mishaps I have gotten myself into over the years. I usually wait till I've visited a barbershop more than twice to give an honest review. There were times where I felt I found the right place for me, only to have that hope fizzle by inconsistency and disregard. However, I believe at Kutthroats I have found a new barber. Kutthroats is on Dillingham close to O-Trips but it's on the block before it. If you're coming from Diamond Head side, it'll be on your right and you need to pay attention lest you miss the missable parking lot (I was daydreaming when I realized I had missed the first entrance so had to wait till traffic cleared in order for me to reverse out of the second lot, back onto Dillingham and into the correct entrance). I was greeted by a huge Samoan dude (I'm from Kalihi so I wasn't too intimidated) and he kindly gestured me to the desk to confirm my appointment. **Please note that during this Covid situation, you will need to book your appointment online. It's super easy so no worry beef curry** Big shout out to Ramsey who I booked the appointment with. My hair was wild and growing 6 different ways in 3 different areas of my head (thanks other barbershops who won't be named), and Ramsey assured me he could fix it. I felt bad for him because it felt like he put in a lot of work. In the end, he had not only fixed my trouble locks, but he gracefully faded and blended so well, you couldn't tell there had been a disaster atop my dome. I recommend this shop to any gentleman who is looking to get a debonair clean-cut fresh fade. Please be advised that the entertainment which comes in the form of hip hop playing from the TV may occasionally have language that may be unsuitable for younger viewers (it's Kalihi, so it's understood that's how we grew up). So go, if you're in need of a fresh do. This place is legit. Maybe you'll find a barber here who can turn your nappy hair into a Masterpiece. read more

Lolo was the first barber I've seen who has managed my sons afro right! Having that mixed poly/ black hair, he picked out his fro first. A hole in the wall barbershop that's pretty easy to miss if you didn't know it existed located in Kalihi. We bring our 8yo son here to cut his hair each time cause we always happy with the way his hair comes out. Be sure to set an appointment with them, because they can get busy on certain days, during peak hours. But we have him see Ramsey aka @aloha_barber on IG. Always takes his time doing my son's hair, esp with his front line up cause of his giddy-giddy (local peeps knows what Im talking about). But we NEVER feel rushed, no matter how busy they get. The barbershop is very spacious, clean and bright..I personally love the lighting in there, talk about selfie for days LOL. But they have a few couches right in the middle of the barbershop for you to comfortably sit on as you wait. Parking lot is a tad bit small, so be prepared on their busy days. read more

Novel Review lol I'm a DIY mom but when my boys & husband need to see the pros for a cutt especially with school picture taking, we make sure it's at this shop. It was our 4 yr olds 1st time sitting in the chair by himself today. Austin was great with him! He also did our 8 yr old & he loved his fade and short mohawk. We also had lolo and he never fails to do a bomb job with our oldest whos 9. Most barber shops we've been to in the past struggled with our oldest because he's albino with pretty light colored & thick hair. My cousin & his kids always use Lolo & told us give his shop a try & he's been our go to ever since! We've used other barbers in the shop like Kun & Ramsey & they're all awesome. My husband gets his beard & hair done here also but i always forget to take a pic! Definitely recommend if you want to look your best & fresh! I just flew in from the Bay Area for a wedding. I came here to get a last minute haircut and beard trim/fade. As I walked in, there was a lot of people inside and none of the barbers or workers greeted me or said anything! I was confused on who to speak to. I walked over to the back to ask for Kun Taulung cause I had a appointment at 5pm with him. Got a very cold energy from the staff. TV in the background was playing some rap battle show with alot of cussing while there was kids in the waiting area. Kun was cool and all but not very talkative. Nice haircut but the beard was shaped round instead of square straight like I asked for. My only suggestion for this place is to be more welcoming towards your clients. read more

Wow just wowed and in Amazement!!! I came here to have my dreadlocks maintained for my very first time. Cara @aloha_locs (her Instagram account) is absolutely AMAZING! I gotta say that she must be the most knowledgeable & might I add BEST loctician on the island & probly in the entire State of Hawaii! I would recommend any & every person who is thinking about dreadlocks, wanting to start dreadlocks for their very first time or just any person who would like to maintain their dreadlocks no matter what condition their dreadlocks are in Cara can do it all! I have to also say that the overall vibe in the barbershop is the best I've felt in forever and I don't believe it was just the great music they were playing! Many of the barbers have dreadlocks, all are polite gentlemen and Cara is the braids & locks specialist very very talented & kind such a great spirit easy to talk to woman! My experience with Cara left me feeling brand new & I looked even better than I felt, which before visiting her, I did not think was possible! My dreadlocks are tighter than ever!! Agree with the previous reviewers! Been wanting to get my haircut closer to my house in Kalihi other than the shops in Winward and Ala Moana locations I'd go to. Did a quick yelp search and came across this gem! Yelp did not dissapoint! Easy to use Square Online booking and my barber did a perfect job! Didn't get his real name but I booked my first appointment with Aloha_Barber, fade and cut was exactly how I wanted it and at almost half ($25) of what I was used to paying at other places. Def happy I found my new barbershop that's so close to my house and so much cheaper for my broke college self. One minor thing I have to say is parking is pretty small so it might be a struggle getting a stall when they're busy, def recommend trying to find a ride if can to save yourself the trouble! read more

My eldest son and nephew have been getting their haircuts at KB. Finally brought my youngest son, our 1st time there. Wish I had done it sooner, would of saved us a few bad haircuts, money, time, and tip money. In the past I would give barbers my instructions on how I would like my son's haircut done, I'd end up being upset. They nod their head ok but the result was different. We booked for Lolo_Da_Barber and I advised him how I would like my son's hair done and even told him he can decide what haircut would look good for my son's shape of head. I was not disappointed at all with the results. The best haircut by far for my 9 year old. He loves it too. I posted pics on my FB and my cousin asked for Barbershop info as he wants to take his 3 sons there. I easily booked an appointment online, received a text confirmation of appt, and I received a text reminder of appt an hour prior. Place is clean and ambiance comfortable.
