This place truly sucks don't waist your time or money. Arrived after a long drive from Texas. My wife wanted some Filipino food so we googled and gps'd kuyas kitchen. Upon getting there person that took the order was rude and unfriendly. My food was cold like he used dry ice to cook it with. Seeing as I was tired from a 15 hr drive I kept quiet as to not cause a scene. We had the tapsilog my wife and daughter had caldereta and palabok. As well as the halo halo. Good news is the halo halo was cold too. As it should be. He's lucky I was tired cuz the attitude we received would never happen to me at any restaurant in the world. read more

I was so excited to try the place but nothing, NOTHING tasted good. The food was worth three stars but I am giving it a one star coz of poor customer service. I got a dish which is just a regular pork and mixed veggies (as in the $1 frozen mixed veggies!!!). It's not bad but it's also nothing special. If anything, it's worse than your usual mixed veggies and pork coz they added a lot of pig skin in. Is that worth $6.99? Sorry, I don't think so. I also ordered halo halo. I read the reviews before and people said it's a must-order dessert so I tried it because I didn't have enough cash to pay for the pork dish. BIG disappointment. I enjoyed the ube ice cream. I finished them and I though the ice in the middle would be sweet but it's just ice. You're supposed to mix the ice w/ the stuff at the bottom of the glass. After mixing, I got a desert that is pretty common in Asia. Maybe the ingredients are not the same but the taste is about the same. Had I know, I wouldn't even pay $2.99 for it! Even a bubble tea taste better and I already think they are overpriced. Here's why I think the customer service is very poor: - I was going to order the pork dish only. Just as I was about to pay with my credit card, I saw the sign that says minimum $10 purchase for credit card payments. I told the guy I only had about $4 in cash and asked him if he could make an exception. He gave me a dirty look and then started to look down and do something weird (he mumbled and then started writing the previous order on a piece of paper which he sent to the kitchen later). It was awkward and I guess obvious that he didn't want to make an exception so I ordered halo halo. - The stated price of halo halo is $3.99, however, I was charged $4.99. The owner didn't even explain, he just assumed that I'd have what he called a special. I didn't argue w/ him over $1 but that leaves a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth. If you don't expect ppl to order the $3.99 option, why put it up there? Needless to say, I am never going back. read more

Kuya, booyah! Located in Assi Plaza in Duluth, I ended up here since the food at Chateau Elan was atrocious. Filipino restaurants are few and far between, so I am always excited if I can always find another source of comfort food. Alone, I tend to order enough for four people at Filipino places. The menu is medium-sized, covering all the staples and basics. This time an order of lumpia, chicken adobo, rice, and pancit suddenly colonized a full table for four in the food court. No matter. I happily took on the challenge. Bring it on! Everything was very good. Though I can't say that it is as good as Grandma's, pretty much 99% of places will never be as good as Grandma's. I'm used to my Grandma's style, sweet and sour profile and presentations. The Philippines has so many provinces and islands that consequently there will be at least that many variants. But bottom line, for a Filipino who craves Filipino food in Atlanta, it provides yet another option, a very good one. It's cheap, authentic, and happily fills that comfort spot. Twice I have eaten here and although I would like to give it a higher rating - there's plenty of room on improving the quality of their food. The first dish I tried here a week or two back was the lechon kawali. That dish was 1 star at best! Poorly executed as the pieces were primarily fatty which I can tolerate, but the skin wasn't even close to being crunchy. So what's the point of eating the dish? The next dish I tried was the pork adobo. Looked good from the serving dish, but it was the driest, hence the hardest/toughest pork adobo I have eaten. Out of 15 or so pieces of adobo, about 3 were tender which leads me to think that they added more pork to an already cooked dish which then dried out and toughened the older and cooked pieces. If you're inkling for Filipino food, cook it at home! It'll be better than this place. read more

I went here with a big group so I was able to taste most of their dishes. They have several specials and I went ahead and tried their Beef Nilaga which is just a Beef broth soup. It was really tasty. I also ordered the Chopsuey which is a sauteed vegetable. They were enough meet in it that you can just even use it as your main dish. The others that I have tried were also good, like the Kare Kare, it was a little bit oily, but it tasted home cooked. The Chicken and Pork adobo are ok, but it might need a little more vinegar. The Pancit was good too, in which it has a lot of chicken / shrimp meat. I'm glad there are now 2 Filipino restaurants close to me. read more

One of the few places in Atlanta I was able to find authentic Filipino food! Everything was cooked well and they had a good variety for lunch. Will definitely come back and try some of their other specialties! Only complaint was that the service was sort of slow at lunch - I think due to fresher prep/cook for some of the dishes. Just a consideration if you're going on your lunch hour. Stick with the pancit, adobo, lumpia, etc. if you're in a hurry. They're all excellent! read more

This restaurant was advertised on the Assisi Plaza flyer as offering Filipino food. unfortunately, all they offer is warmed over, bland mediocre food. the shrimp and chicken with vegetables in a white sauce had no sauce - just some watery tasteless liquid, a few pieces of chicken that tasted days old, and non-existent shrimp (2-3 pieces that appeared to be chewed on and I'm not kidding). I found myself so angry afterward because (1) they are passing off this garbage as food, and (2) Assisi Plaza food court manager is advertising on the flyer for them. As a chef and expert in cuisine, I know what good food is and this place has garbage!!!!. there are many many other choices in the food court that appeared to be offering decent food. this place is by far the worst food I have come across in ages. run don't walk away from this awful place. read more

Disappointed! This is one of two places I buy Filipino food. The other didn't have what I wanted so I came here. I used to live in Gwinnett and moved to Henry so it takes me almost an hour to get here. Usually I come and dine in here but had to get it to go this time. When we dine in we order one kind of food and it would be a lot enough to feed two people. This time when I ordered it to go, it wasn't quite as much. And I even ordered two different types of food. So basically, if you order to go, you get cheated and get less than what you dine in for the same price. Waste of time. read more

Finally I found a filipino restaurant. ..we'll actually it's in a food court of an Asian mall. But the food is homemade. I've been in atlanta over a year and before this I was only able to find a filipino truck but the food was not good. Anyway I have to say what I ordered was really good. We ordered pork adobo, they cut the pork bite size which I think is a really good idea. My mom usually cooks adobo with big chunks which you have to break apart before taking a bite. We also ordered lechon...how you can not love fried pork with a thick layer or fat and skin. They gave us white rice in a larger bowl to share. It was regular white rice not Jasmine like my mom makes but it's fine when u eat it with adobo and lechon. Those foods are bursting with flavor so plain rice is needed to balance it off. For dessert we ordered Halo halo. Anyone who has had halo halo several times realized every version is different. It's typical to have sweet beans, some jelly Like fruits that I don't even know what they're called. And condensed milk. What made this special was they added ube ice cream and a sliver of flan. And of course the crushed ice! I love halo halo! And I can't wait t9 go back for more. I also ordered some ensamada for the next day. It was moist and in smaller pieces. It's a 4 pack so it's a good snack for a couple of days. One point I should warn you about. The cashier was not the friendliest at the beginning. He looked very serious and did not smile. Oh well the food was good anyway so I'm not letting that effect my rating. It's a food court so I'm not expecting great service. Although I am an 'Americanized' Filipino I still grew up in a household where we always ate Filipino food. Dine out or cooked by my Lola when I lived in the Bay Area so I know what good Filipino food is. Fresh Filipino food. So when I moved to Atlanta I was happy to find a place a mile from my office. Went there about 3 times, wasn't the best however maybe because it gave my tastebuds sometime they have been craving I didn't mind that the food was adequate. Well day I went to pick up food. Brough some back to work to have coworkers experience the chicken adobo. Well, one of them pointed out the mold on the chicken. It was as if the food was refrigerated for quite some time and no one cared to check. It was just heated up and boxed. Horrible horrible horrible. read more

I was really craving beef kaldareta, but they ran out. Between the afritada and kare kare, I should have tried the kare kare since that is one of their specialities. We were hoping the beef tapsilog was a bit more moist. Next run we'll def try the kare kare. read more

The positive : only filipino restaurant in north georgia. Staff serves a warm meal. The negative: make sure you bring enough cash $ 25.00 . They only accept visa discover or master card if the total bill is over $10.00. Very disappointed. We arrived at around noon and they were already out of the tapsilog and adobonk chicken...fine, except he didn't tell us until about 20 minutes after we ordered. We ended up with the pansit boohoon and k2 (sausage). After about 30 minutes we received our food and we ended up sending back the k2. The rice was very hard (did not taste fresh). The noodle dish was bland. The chicken has been precooked and tasted chewy and cold (not heated thoroughly) and the veggies on our plate were not fresh. After one long year if not longer, I finally visited Kuya Express. I was craving for Filipino food. I ordered quite a bit. To my surprise, I was very disappointed. I ordered pork adobo but it was nasty, tasted old. The meat was black & no flavor. I had to add lots of soy sauce & after a couple of bites I had to throw away. Adobo is one of Filipino's favorite dishes & this was awful. What a shame! Then I ordered the "special" for the day, Kare- Kare. It was not good. For $10 you get one piece of pig knuckle, it was cold in the middle & didn't taste fresh. We ordered pansit, this was ok at least it was hot & veggies were fresh. For patrons or people that want to try Filipino food - order something that does not require long cooking time like pansit or lechon kawali otherwise food does not taste fresh. Taste like they cook the food days in advance except the fried ones. I will cook my own food or cater from Manila Mart. DO NOT order the pork adobo or chicken. Suggestion: owner needs to answer the phone more professionally so we know we are calling the business not someone that sounds like they are asleep. read more

Never again! Talk about horrible service. Went here to grab lunch with a friend, it was not busy at all but yet couldn't get an acknowledgement from the one guy who works there. He kept walking past us & pretended that we didn't exist. We walked out with nothing. The guy who worked there had his wife & kid there & they were to busy catering to what I guess were their friends. I've eaten Filipino food hundreds of times before and I liked it a lot. I've been to Kuya's a few years ago and decided the food was not up to par and the service wasn't great. Recently, my Filipino friend told me to go try it again. I went there on a Sunday after the lunch rush(around 2pm). I was disappointed with the food and the service. I ordered the egg rolls(lumpiang shanghai) and Fish with Garlic Rice. The egg rolls were quite burned and the Garlic in the Garlic Rice was also burned, making the rice taste bitter. So the food was out. There was no other customer so I do not know what distracted them from the cooking. Next was the awful service. The guy handed me my food as if I was disturbing him and didn't even have the courtesy to make an effort to say, Thank you or Come back again. I don't expect them to be super friendly to a stranger although other establishments are that way to their customers. But I think it is common courtesy to at least say thanks to someone who paid you. Burned food and awful service made me realize why I told myself a few years ago not to come back here. I suppose they get enough income from the Filipino community so they don't need to cater to foreigners. It's too bad, I thought we live in a diverse society where we can enjoy each other's cultures. read more

Waited 1 hr for our order, and noticed people that came after us were being served first. went to the counter to ask, and was told they are now just doing ours and need another 30minutes of wait. Asked for refund and left, never coming back. I just hope yelp allows zero rating. I was not even given the chance to rate the food, service itself was no good. read more
