My Mainland Chinese wife got the Chow Fun Beef. It was really good and obviously cooked in a very hot wok. She is very picky but really liked it. Prices were cheaper than other places and portions were generous. Duck and pork are leaner than other places but the flavor is still good and you end up with more meat. Service is fine. This was Saturday at lunch and they were very busy but kept the food coming. Service at a Chinese restaurant is usually business-like and this is no exception. Stopped by for the first time since Covid. Changes since last time I've been here- No tea, no iced water for the table, must buy bottled water (unheard of), no credit cards (visa/Mastercard credit cards used to be accepted), BBQ over rice or in Soup is now $11.99. It was always like $6.95-7.95. So significantly more in price now and no ice water. No use of credit cards. Kind of insult to injury. To their credit, they allow drinks from outside at least. Also, as per always, they don't skimp on the meat portion. Just this time, even though it looked good and had a nice red coating, it didn't have the typical sweet BBQ flavor. It was bland. I normally visit the The Duluth location, but haven't been back in over a year. I know the masses rave about Best BBQ where I've been a few times and liked it. I mean these places aren't my favs for Char Siu like Joy Hing Roasted Meats in HK, or Big Wong in NYC, but they were legit options I was proud to frequent. There was ZERO crispy skin on any of my pieces, every one was soggy. The steamed rice was prepared well at probably 9am...but sitting out and come 2pm it was dry and oddly sticky...not even the chili oil , yau choi broth or the sauce the meat was wallowing around in could save it. The Yau Choi was already made and I'm pretty sure was just sitting in a bowl in the back, and was also microwaved before it hit my table. I say this, because while I was eating one of the cooks from the back brought out a big stainless bowl of steaming Yau Choi and left it behind the counter-no orders were taken and no one showed up while I was eating. Other than that, it was tasty in terms of flavor and how could you go wrong with garlic. The flavor of both meats were good, but both of them were dried out from sitting around and then being microwaved. So that was disappointing. They also have pretty good chili oil...so they have that going for them. From ordering to table...under 4 minutes. Maybe I came on an off day? Maybe I came too late for the lunch quality? Five stars for food, the food is always good, and the duck is decent for any potluck parties you are going to. For almost $40, you get a whole duck chopped up and ready to be served on a platter. The food comes out quick, and I've never really had a complaint about the food or the price. Three stars for the main lady at the register, I mean, everyone already knows this if you've been there once or twice, but she is downright rude. I asked if I needed a key in order to use the restroom, and she just looked at me confused before looking away. Then she turned around and said that she didn't hear me, so I asked again. Same look of exasperation/ bothered that she's being asked. So I said never mind, and the other lady who's taller and skinnier actually came up and answered my question, which was nice. It was really a yes or no question, and the lady at the register couldn't be bothered to try answering. They take card, but they do prefer cash. Parking in this area is currently a nightmare because they are doing some construction and the egress near their storefront is closed off. Hopefully that'll be resolved in the next few weeks. This was the second visit to Ming's. The first visit was awful and I should have realized that although that visit had been before Covid, the people who run this restaurant are just the worst with NO TACT or social skills at all. The food is average. The portions are small. But the way they think they can treat customers is terrible. When I sat down the lady asked me what I wanted to drink and I said water. She said, "Water Water?" I said, yes. She brought me bottled water. What she should have said is, "Bottled water okay with you?" I kinda knew then that this tactic reeks of RIPOFF Strategy. I ordered Crispy Pork which was okay. I went up to pay at the register and there is a little sign that says, We charge a $1.00 more for every item you order, except appetizers. What a way to piss people off. Just raise your menu prices! I went to the restroom. I came out and I forgot to put my tip on the table. The older waitress stopped me and said, you give me tip. The lady at the register chimed in, you give us $2.00. Unbelivable!! I have never had any waitperson do this in my 69 years on this planet. This place is legit. As someone who's been to Hong Kong 4 or 5 times, I was craving some Cantonese BBQ, and their BBQ Pork (Cha Siu) really hit the spot. Their pork portion for the rice plate was very generous and came with complimentary cabbage. If you want to order side veggies, they have 3-4 options depending on the day (make sure to ask). All items were very delicious! Pork belly had that perfectly crunch/crispy skin. All of the meats (even the pork belly) were moist and cooked just right. I was also given extremely generous portions, with all of my containers being stuffed to the brim. Staff can be very...assertive, but are overall friendly. But aren't these the best types of places if you want good food? So the honey roasted BBQ pork. Yes please. Salt and pepper squid. Beef Chow Fun. Braised Tofu (I usuallly don't like tofu). The cashier visually checks the card to see if it says DEBIT on it, and, if it does, she'll accept the card for payment.** I wanted to go to a restaurant that was relatively Covid-19 safe and had good food that was not expensive. In my Yelp search, Mings showed up, so I took R along to get some Cantonese food. Today, at around 5:30 pm, we pulled into the large parking lot from Buford Highway. Uh oh! Parking lot construction blocked off vehicular traffic to the back of the shopping center, where Mings (and La Mei Zi) are located. I drove around the block and got to Mings by way of Shallowford Rd, and to the back side of the parking lot. I easily found a parking space because I think only two or three nearby businesses were open at the time. Mings is a small casual restaurant. Currently, it's only doing take out, so you can call in your order or you can order at the counter and wait for your food either in the waiting area inside or outside on the sidewalk. The employees wear face masks, and customers are required to wear masks too. It's up to customers to social distance from each other, and the customers are physically distanced from the employees through use of tables placed in front of the ordering counter where the register is, and the installation of plexiglass around the counter. This is a very busy restaurant, and the employees are very quick, to the point and efficient. You know it's real Cantonese food when you see a roasted pig and roasted ducks hanging and visible through the windows, and Mings is the real deal! The menu is very busy with so many selections and options. Cantonese cuisine is generally not spicy and includes dim sum and dishes that are roasted/bbq'd or have seafood. If I had to choose between having Cantonese or Sichuan food, I will almost always choose Cantonese. I quickly looked over the menu and saw that bbq ribs (Cantonese style) were available. Those are one of my favorites! R ordered the bbq pork rice plate and the "side greens." He asked the woman at the register what which greens were included, wondering if they were Chinese broccoli. The woman told him that it was bok choy, which is actually his preference. I ordered the bbq ribs and the side greens, but was told that they were out of the bbq ribs. The employee suggested the bbq pork, which has the same flavor but doesn't have bones. I looked at the menu again and then ordered the crispy roast pork rice plate and side greens. The man at the bbq station was getting our plates ready as soon as we ordered, he was so quick that our food was given to us already bagged by the time I started the payment process. Very quick service for the bbq'd food! I wanted to eat in the car while we still had hot food, knowing that the crispy roast pork could quickly lose its skin crispiness when left in a steamy take out container. I just backed up the car just a little farther from the restaurant. The crispy roast pork meat was flavorful. Most of the skin was still crispy. The employee did not skimp at all on the amount of food he placed into our take out containers. We both received generous portions of meat and white steamed rice. Apparently, a soy sauce was ladled onto the rice before the meat was place on top of the rice. I liked that the sauce wasn't at full soy sauce flavor strength, because that's just too salty for me, but this one was just right. Neither one of us was given bok choy, though. It was actually Chinese broccoli, as R had predicted. I tried a piece of R's bbq pork. It was good, but I liked the flavor of the crispy roast pork a lot more. If I were to be honest, I believe that the meals we got were enough for four "normal" eaters, but they didn't stand a chance against the both of us. Ok, I finished my entire meal, but R brought home a small amount of his food - enough for a snack later. Both of the meals cost me under $18 total. I wasn't charged for the side greens, maybe because they knew it wasn't bok choy(?). Quick, inexpensive and good tasting food is what I wanted tonight, and that's exactly what I got! Ming's shares its parking area with the entire plaza. The location neighbors other restaurants like La Mei Zi so it can be tight during peak hours. The Doraville menu is slightly limited compared to Duluth's. This is totally understandable as this location is about half the size and not as well-known. I mainly visit Ming's BBQ for their crispy roast pork and honey bbq pork. Both are always delicious!! Service: Great! Staff is mainly quick on their feet. Food is served in a reasonable amount of time. The location is a bit dated and small, but the prices are reasonable and the food is pretty good! MUST TRY::: Crispy pork and bbq pork are very tender. Those were our favorites. We ordered them by the pound. $12/lb. We ended up getting 1.5lb of each and the portion is enough for 4. Keep in mind it does NOT come with veggies or rice. We also tried the salt and pepper squid, huge portion but didn't blow us away or anything some pieces had seasoning others were plain. I did like the quality and the fact that they put a large amount of Onions since I love onions. There was a sign for $3.99 chicken feet plate, the flavor was interesting. Seemed like just soy sauce and something else. I was hoping it would be like dim sum flavor but it was not. The portion was a large too. Maybe like 6-8 pcs. They're sort of a hole in the wall restaurant located at the back of a shopping plaza on Buford Hwy that takes cash or debit card only. The food here is perfect for family style meals. Tastes authentic, perfectly seasoned with great flavors, portion sizes are great for the prices, and lots of variety. I have yet to taste a dish that I haven't liked. My personal favorites to order are the dry noodle beef chow fun, salt and pepper squid, salt and pepper tofu, and garlic eggplant. The eggplant here is cooked in a garlic black bean sauce and just tastes incredible. I don't know how they make eggplant taste so good. It's best over steamed rice. Be careful ordering this dish though; it always comes out steaming hot! Never been a fan of tofu until I came here and ordered the salt and pepper tofu. The portion is much bigger than the salt and pepper squid for a much cheaper cost, so if you're a lover of that dish, definitely try this one! The only downfalls.. customer service is just okay. They don't really check on you much and aren't too friendly. The steamed rice is only complimentary with some dishes, which is very odd for a family style Asian restaurant, and they don't even give you a lot. You have to ask for more, and even then, not much more is given. Cash or debit only, but I don't recall there being any signs to warn you. I just know because I've come so many times. I've been to the Doraville location several times over the past couple of years and just recently went again in a long time. They changed their portion size and don't give complimentary soups no more and you have to pay for a water bottle. I guess it is due to inflation but the duck over rice still has the same delicious flavor from what I remember. It's been almost ten years since I last came here and I am still in awe with how amazing their food quality and quantity is. I forgot how much I love this place's food. The price for the rice combos I had were just $8 without tax included and honestly for how much portion I get, this is so worth it. The taste is still what I remember from back then, and I'm still thankful to see Ming's BBQ still around. I've been to both the Doraville and Duluth locations recently, and I do think this location's food quality is better. The BBQ pork wasn't dry at all in this location and the duck was just perfect. One of the combo can easily make you full, and you can possibly still have some left over for later meals. The service was really fast too, from when I paid to when I received the food, it barely took 5 minutes. This is partially because I got the rice combos, so I'm sure if you got any other dishes, it might take longer for the food to be ready. The food came out very quick (~5 to 10 minutes). There's a generous portion of meat over the rice. The skin of the meat was crispy and flavorful. However, the meat was pretty tough and dry. Perhaps it was just that day since others like the dish a lot, so I'll give the benefit of the doubt (3/5). A friend got the beef chow fun, and trying a bite of that was really good. You can find Ming's BBQ at 5150 Buford Hwy NE, Ste 300, Doraville, GA 30340 in the Asian Square shopping center anchored by the Asian Supermarket. The restaurant is along the left facing the market (South side) towards the back. My next several reviews will focus on all the restaurants currently in this square as my Buford Highway Clawr group hits each. For the uninitiated, the square is home of the Doraville location of Sweet Hut which most will recognize. There's plenty of parking out front of each business and overflow contained in the main market's parking. I've eaten at Ming's BBQ a handful of times - this is a favorite of locals and Chinese in particular - I believe the style is notably Cantonese so you'll see very recognizable dishes. They are known for their soups and the congee in particular during cold months, but the reason to come here is for the duck. On this night the Clawr group went for the whole Peking Duck, a Honey Roasted BBQ Pork dish and the Snow Pea Tips. Peking Duck - this is your classic Peking Duck served with bao-style folded buns, some sauce and a bit of green onion. I thought this was very good, perhaps the best I've had in Atlanta (I've experienced slightly better where the duck comes directly from the brick-oven, is sliced into thin pieces to be served by special cutters, but I haven't seen that in this town). The skin is crisp and the duck delicious - I don't think you'll be disappointed. Honey Roasted BBQ Pork - in a word, delicious. This is a well smoked dish of sweetened pork with plenty of rind - harder to do than it looks as the flesh is still very moist. Served with a side of sauteed sprouts. Very filling and a good sharable portion. Snow Pea Tips - I love these - full of flavor and a bit of garlic - in fact I think I order these whenever they're offered. Ming's does an excellent job, keeping the stems slightly crispy and the leaves firm - I think the trick is to blanch the stems first before adding them to the wok. This tends to be a very busy restaurant and it suffers a bit because of that. It also closes at 9:00 PM so if you're thinking of coming, arrive early if you can. The servers here (and really at any restaurant) get awfully cranky when you show up 10 minutes before closing (unless you're ordering take-out). The shifts are long so please be considerate. Other than that I've found the servers here very good and efficient with good answers to questions. As with most of the more authentic Chinese restaurants, you need to be a bit more persistent than you're used to in getting good service - try not to be obnoxious but the more persistent you are the better the service. Oh how the mighty have fallen. When I moved to Atlanta a little over three years ago, this was the spot. A rice plate and 2/3 different kinds of meet for less than $8? What a steal! I loved this place with all my heart, and come Thanksgiving '16 and '17, having no friends in the ATL to spend Thanksgiving with, I ate by my lonesome self at Ming's BBQ with the entire staff basically surrounding my table attending to my every need. And I didn't care, it was fantastic. 5-stars. But now, they jacked up the price of the rice plate combo so that you have to pay more than 11 for it all? Ouch number 1. Secondly, my Mandarin isn't the best, but I usually try to converse with the waiters in Mandarin, which I think they appreciate, even if I butchered it a little (no pun intended from a BBQ duck place). But the last time I went, I got SCOLDED and MOCKED by the older woman for what I accidentally said (which was not offensive at all), which soured my entire experience. She gave me a stink-eye for the rest of my time there. Ouch number 2. Ming's BBQ is great. I love the food, and it's a good haven for me when I crave roast duck and Asian BBQ. But it's not the same. I understand that people go to restaurants to eat, but I embrace customer service and consistency with the culinary experience, and the constant increase in price and the rude lady has ruined it for me. Now that I have friends in ATL (yay!) and my wife (double yay!), I won't be going back to Ming's any time soon. read more

Food was great! We def recommend anything written in chalk on the wall. Def our fallback when Best BBQ is closed. We found the service to be gruff intimate if that makes sense. Got everything we needed but it wasn't done with a smile. However in a pinch, our server came through! Rather than make us trek out for an ATM in the heat she was kind enough to make an exception for us so we could pay credit card. read more
