Chicken Katsu Bento Dinner Box! Via Doordash.
    Marsha N.

Doordash dinner was great. I got a Hawaii roll and the chicken katsu Bento Box. It was enough food for 2 but I was just in heaven. It was full of delicious fried treats like shumai, tempura veggies, shrimp and delicately fried chicken with a savory brown sauce (tonkatsu). White rice and salad with a creamy ginger dressing. Very happy with it and have left overs for the air fryer.

Maki Combo (California, Spicy Tuna and Salmon Rolls)

I made an online order for a Spicy Maki Combo and it was ready within 6 minutes of me placing the order. That was impressive. One more thing to note is that their Spicy Maki Combo does not come with a California Roll. This is always a plus for me because a lot of places tend to just put a California Roll with spicy mayo on top in their Spicy Maki Combo and call it a day. I mean if you like California Rolls then that's a good thing but I'm here for the fish. I ordered a normal Maki Combo one time and it did come with a spicy roll which I found interesting. Everywhere is different! Nice to change it up as this is the first place I have seen do this. If you order sushi combo entrees a lot then you'd understand what I'm talking about. Their sushi itself was very good. Good quality, exactly as I would expect. The service was really friendly and the ambiance was quite nice! I don't have much else to say but I seriously appreciated how fast they were able to take care of my online orders as my girlfriend placed the order while we were driving there. We don't live far at all and they still managed to get the order out in less than 6 minutes! Solid Japanese restaurant, but nothing more than that. I guess I'll give them a 99/100 on their speed rating. Each time I made an online order here they were so fast that I bothered writing about it.

Stopped here post hockey - great warm up, fuel up! The service is friendly, the fish is fresh, the menu has both traditional items as well as some specials, and the place is clean. Our group ordered a range of sushi dishes. All were good. If/when we are in the area, will come back! Extra bonus: Yelp! Special for a free appetizer! Thx!!!

I would give this place a 3.5... it's better than a 3, but not perfect. The sushi wasn't as flavorful as other places I enjoy in Middletown and Wethersfield. But they had a large selection of rolls, it seemed fresh, and the sushi had a nice presentation and the restaurant had a cool visual atmosphere. I didn't like that there was a large vibrating compressor sound/noise that was very loud through our dinner that seemed to come from behind the bar. It was very distracting, and couldn't hear myself think. Didn't make for good conversation atmosphere during dinner. The waiter was nice enough but took quite some time to check in or deliver things given there were only two other couples in the restaurant.

    Amazing! Prince roll :)

Wow guys, this little sushi restaurant is a hidden gem! I just ordered the Prince Roll and it was amazing. Smooth snd delicious! And I also ordered a rainbow roll too and although this roll is so ordinary Kuyi goes the extra mile to make it taste like a special roll. I wish I spent my money here all past the times we ordered sushi instead of the town over. This place makes the rolls fresh, tasty, and big. The rice is soft, it's compact and looks so pretty. High quality. You can tell when rolls are thrown together because they fall apart, or are super tiny with stale rice. Not this place. I was really impressed. Ordering from their website was easy and the man who took the phone order was so very nice and friendly! It's worth the drive from wherever you live. A+ sushi! They have a huge parking lot and it's pretty inside! Try it sometime! You'll love how high quality they make the rolls. Oh, and the gyoza/dumpling soup was smooth and delicious! I really love this Sushi place!

Pretty decent, but I was a little disappointed with the size of the rolls. They were too big! I know, not the worst thing in the world, but I felt that the balance was off. Their prices are already very fair so I think they could get away with using less meat or veggies in the rolls so the bite size is less intense. Between the standard rolls and the special rolls, I would definitely go for the special rolls! They are absolutely gigantic, flavorful, and a great value. We tried one with tempura shrimp and mango which was very yummy. The Avocado was a little over ripe but aside from that everything tasted fresh and flavorful! The free seaweed salad with $35 purchase was greatly appreciated!

Food was great! It was fresh, fast, delicious! Not over crowded on a Saturday night. Service was good. I enjoyed their dragon egg! Very unique! Their crab Rangoon + the dipping sauce was fantastic! I had tried their margarita and it was good. I would say their hibachi is tasty but my only complaint is wayyy too much sauce. I also wished they gave us empty plates to split the appetizers.

    Japanese Curry

Kuyu has a beautiful dining room and sushi bar. It was mostly empty for a Saturday night. Service was amazing and very accommodating.

    Chicken Hibachi

This was hands down one of the best chicken hibachi meals i've had. The chicken was seasoned very well! We also got sushi which they bagged separate so it wouldn't get warm which was an awesome touch!

Spicy tuna roll and shrimp tempura roll (take out)

This is my new go to sushi takeout spot. Every other place in the area has disappointed me for one reason or another. I always get the same thing at a new sushi place, a relatively safe order of spicy tuna roll and shrimp tempura roll. Bonus when a place has hibachi/fried noodles, which Kuyi does! (You can't be a 5 in my eyes without the noodles) The spicy tuna roll is good, nice fresh red tuna. It's not as spicy as I'd like, but that's what wasabi is for. The shrimp tempura roll is standout. It's huge with good quality shrimp. They take the shell off the tail piece which is key. Most places around here don't do that. And the sweet glaze is so good and there is always enough of it. The noodles are amazing, and cheap, as the fried noodles usually are. It's just plain fried noodles, like you get at a hibachi restaurant on the side of your meal, and it definitely takes care of my noodle fix. I've gone a few times now and it's been consistent quality, which is very important to me. I'm now at the point where I feel safe to order something else and start trying some of their specialty rolls. The restaurant is very clean and inviting, definitely would go there to eat in as well. The service is great and my take out order is always ready in 10 minutes or less. Definitely go here if you're in the area, it's much better than any of the sushi spots in Middletown.

Steak and chicken habitchi with no yum yum sauce :(
    Mike G.

My wife and I tried kuyi last night. We had a 10 off 50 coupon that was about to expire and wanted to try some place different. The inside was nicely done, however it was a little warm, some celing fans would of been nice. The biggest downside of the meal was the waitress. I'm not sure if she was having a bad day or what, but I dont think she should be working with the public. She was rude and almost yelled at me when I asked for some water. As for the food and drinks, We got the scorpion bowl for 14 dollars a good deal, but it came with small straws so it was a pain to move it back and forth. Moonlight in middletown gives out big straws. The crab rangoon was decent but not as good as moonlight. The outside was really crispy like a chip. As for the entrees, we got steak and chicken habitchi. The salad, veggies, rice, shrimp were all standard. The steak however, was really good better than moonlight. It was very tender and done a perfect medium rare. The other big disappointment of the night was no yum yum sauce. What Japanese restaurant does not have yum yum sauce? Overall, I cannot recommend kuyi.

We came on a Friday evening and it was full but they were able to find us a table quickly. Inside, the place has a very casual feel and I honestly wasn't sure what we were going to get when we ordered. Just to say, looks were deceiving, but in a good way! The food was at a different (better) level than the ambience in the room. Basically, don't worry about how the place looks - you will love the food. Our waitress was sooo nice and friendly. We got our drinks quickly and ordered right away. Though we came for sushi, we were all mesmerized by the entree options and opted to try the bento boxes. I'm used to small bento boxes with tightly portioned foods and the "basics." What we got surprised us all. These bento boxes were actually huge plates of food. A full order of vegetable tempura, a whole California roll, entree, soup and gyoza. We barely made it through a quarter of it! And it was delicious! I got the chicken teriyaki and the chicken was so tender. The tempura was fried perfectly and the gyoza had a great flavor. All in all, I recommend you try this place out! Is it a fancy date night place? No. Is it a super casual date night place? Yes! Try the bento - you won't be disappointed! 4/5 stars only because they should spruce up the inside to match their amazing food!

It was indeed a pleasure - and surprise - to see a container of FREE tempura kani in my takeout bag, alongside the sushi and fried rice that I ordered. The sushi deluxe was fantastic and included a California roll plus eight pieces chosen by the chef; I lucked out with tuna and salmon, plus a few pieces of mystery white fish that were quite tasty as well. The side order of chicken fried rice made me wonder how big the regular portion is, because I could only eat half. The chicken was well cooked and glazed with a lightly sweet sauce. Also in my bag was a container of clear miso and a small salad, plus a few sauces and a fortune cookie. Ordering was easy and straightforward and it was ready to go when promised, with friendly service. Fancy Sushi is definitely on my list of local faves now, and next time, I'll bring a friend and try the dine-in experience.

These typically come in a boat, and can usually feed up to four. We also ordered soups. Our order arrived with salads. This was very fresh, it arrived in an assortment of tuna and salmon, with sashimi and rolls. This was unfortunately far too small for our party of three. It did arrive on a small boat with an orchid, the presentation was lovely. While the sushi was very fresh and flavorful, we were let down by the small portion size and the filler space.

I ordered takeout this visit because I was shopping nearby, but I've dined in before and would definitely come back to sit down and fully enjoy the atmosphere and authentic cuisine. This time I ordered the Thai pineapple fried rice with shrimp. The flavor was savory with a subtle sweetness from the pineapple, and it included peas, carrots, eggs, and small seeds throughout that added texture. The shrimp were medium sized, and my small to-go portion came with four pieces. The dish was delicious, but next time I'd probably order extra shrimp.
