Kuyi Sushi is my go-to restaurant when I'm craving sushi or other Japanese dishes. The sushi is always fresh and presented beautifully. The lunch roll special is an amazing price and it's more than enough to fill me up. The portions of their hot dishes are generous, and I always find myself bringing home leftovers. Kuyi's ingredients always seem very fresh, simple, and authentic. Their atmosphere is very calming and quiet, and their service is always prompt and friendly. Excellent I will definitely be back! I am not eating carbs at the moment which makes it very difficult to have sushi, but I thought the choices without rice were phenomena. There's a seared white tub appetizer that was by far my favorite and I also enjoyed a roll without rice which was also on the appetizer menu including avocado salmon and a white fish with a spicy sauce on time. Definitely some new stuff to try out, but they also have the classics. The sashimi was very fresh and very tasty and creative. I decided to treat myself and get takeout for lunch. I was thrilled that I could place my order online and just go pick it up. I had never been here before even though I've had takeout one time previously. The hostess/waitress that greeted me was super friendly and the place itself was really clean and tastefully decorated. When I got home, I sat down to enjoy my delicious 3 roll lunch special and I noticed that I had an eel avocado roll even though I ordered an eel cucumber. I love avocado but it's not what I expected or ordered. My other minor complaint is the skimpy amount of eel. It was barely a small sliver in some of the rolls. The wasabi also seemed strangely diluted to me. The spicy salmon was fine, but the white tuna avocado contained a surprisingly generous piece of fish. Also, they use exactly the right amount of rice in my opinion. I'm sad to say that this visit was not a win for me, but I would be willing to give them another chance. read more

Sushi has become a staple in my house and my kids have become accustomed to eating certain rolls and each have their favorites. For this dinner we ordered Yellowtail jalapeño, seafood dynamite, baked mussels, 1 Boston roll, and 2 spicy shrimp rolls (a mistake on my husband's part, they were supposed to be spicy tuna). The seafood dynamite and the baked mussels were both extremely similar in taste and presentation. Don't get me wrong, they were very yummy but the menu really only needs one of them. My husband and son devoured the yellowtail jalapeño before I could have a bite so I'm assuming it was good. The Boston roll was missing the avocado, making it incredibly boring, but the spicy shrimp was good. My kids ate their dinner and I didn't hear any complaining. We did not visit the restaurant this time, my husband brought the food home for us to try. He did mention though that this restaurant looked awesome and would make for a great date night. Based on the taste of the food I would definitely be willing to make a date night here. read more

Best sushi and service in the state of Connecticut! I honestly at one point thought I was at a day spa the way that the staff took care of my needs before I even knew what I needed. Very impressed with the management and professional demeanor of the whole place. The sushi was exquisitely organized and prepared by a very professional looking and acting sushi chef. The first time I went to Kuyi was eat-in, and the second time was to give it a second chance for take-out. Eat-In: In the restaurant, we sat at a very small table which barely fit the plates and cups for two people - they do not have a lot of tables either, but it was not crowded. I did not think the service was good - but I wont comment on that and I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they just opened and need more experience. We ordered the "Sushi for Two" which included "16 pcs sushi & 1 special roll" - so we choose our special roll, but then another waitress came back and said it only comes with the "fancy" roll, not a choice of special roll. That's fine, but it should specify that in the menu. The sushi was extremely small, and not cold enough for us (but that's personal preference). We also got miso soups and an appetizer, and were no where near full when we left - if you're very hungry, you'll need to order a LOT. Take-Out: I did not get what I ordered for takeout. I ordered the sweetheart roll, among a few other things, that specifically says "Spicy tuna, crunch, mango topped with tuna". There was not one little spec of mango anywhere in my roll, instead it was filled with avocado, which I hate. It's so upsetting to get home, sit down to eat, and realize you didn't get what you ordered. Also, when placing an order online, it has you put in your credit card to pay, but when I walked in, there was a sign that said "15% off of eat in or take out orders" - of course, since I already paid online, I did not get 15% off. It was about 8:30 when I got the take-out, but there was only one couple in the entire restaurant - the plaza was literally deserted. I eat sushi a lot, and have never been bothered by it. Both times I've eaten at Kyui, I've had horrible stomach ache afterword. I think I'll just drive to Wethersfield from now on, because the convenience of location for me does not make up for the negatives. read more

New, clean facility. Reasonably priced. Friendly staff. Cool modern decor. This is everything you could hope to expect from a strip mall sushi joint. Lots of great non-sushi options and plenty of parking. Sometimes we get takeout for lunch (my office is nearby) and they blast one of the best online ordering platforms I've ever seen. First Time, Last time. Went for lunch (9/7) and ordered Chicken Hibachi. Miso soup was fine, but waited long time to get the hibachi. When it finally came, it was lukewarm, although side of brown rice was hot and tasted good. Waitress seemed perplexed and could not understand my request to get it heated up. She had to call for assistance. It eventually came back properly hot, but several of the chicken pieces were almost like rubber. Some were OK, but I decided to take the rest home and plan to give chicken (after rinsing sauce off) to my dogs. A true Doggy Bag!! read more

Their Nabeyaki Udon is the best I've had (for perspective, I am from Hawaii where there are an abundance of great Asian restaurants). Their broth has a touch of a smoky flavor. The bowl is FULL of vegetables and slivers of chicken and shiitake mushrooms, topped, in the traditional fashion, with a poached egg. It is very "umami" and satisfying. The sushi chefs there are talented and always keep their menu fresh with new varieties. Always a "happy meal" when I eat at Kuyi. read more

This isn't my first time visiting this restraunt- I would have to say, hands down this is one of the best sushi joints i have been to in a long time. What else is nice you ask? The cost is pretty affordable. And the restraunt itself is so clean that i would considering eating off the floor. ( that's a figure of speech) but none the less, this place is far from dirty. When i walked in, we were greeted by a man named Jacob, his only priority was to make sure we were comfortable during our stay, along with the rest of the staff. First time having dinner at Kuyi. The location is easy to find and close to a major highway. The dining room is decently sized to handle a dinner crowd. The staff is very pleasant and eager to answer any questions you have. We ordered sushi, everything came out on time, only issue was we ordered a hand roll and received a sushi roll. No big deal. Steer clear of this restaurant at all costs! I just had lunch here w my sister and the sushi was inedible. We have eaten sushi all over the world and have never had anything so bad. The seaweed was clearly old as it was chewy and almost impossible to swallow. The fish had a strange taste to it and looked funny. When we talked to the manager about it she was rude and defensive. She told us that we were wrong. I never write reviews but felt this one was necessary to warn other people. I had to fight her to take stuff off the bill- including things we hadn't even touched. Extremely disappointed by this experience as it was my sister birthday lunch and even more frustrated by the managers rude and condescending demeanor. read more

This was my first time visiting Kuyi Sushi. I was eating a late dinner and wanted something quick but healthy and thought I would try it out. I got take out and was really impressed with the service. The gentleman who greeted me was so kind and chatted me up for just a bit while I was looking at the menu. After ordering, he offered me a glass of water while I wait...much appreciated. The service was quick and I got my order within 10 minutes. I ordered the miso soup and two rolls (California and spicy tuna). Both were very good!! Not the absolute best sushi I've ever had but better than Asian Bistro in Rocky Hill and a nice step up from my go to sushi stop, Trader Joes.
