10 stars This place is a wonderful little gem on a side street in Middletown. Went there to meet friend to work on a project. They were very kind and brought us out tea in a lovely little tea pot . The man did not make us feel rushed at all. That's something you don't often get in the states anymore. My friend had a noodle bowl which she said was delicious. It was served steaming hot and prepared to perfection. I had sashimi and a "dirty salad". Both were delicious. The dirty salad which was a combination of two of my favorites- seaweed & then kani salad was to die for. It was a very decent size portion. The most flavorful broth in town! We have been searching high and low for a truly delicious ramen experience, and we finally found it! We dined in today around 6pm, the service was fantastic and the food was even better. The three of us each ordered a different ramen: Spicy Hot Pot Noodles, Tonkotsu Ramen (pork), and Creamy Curry Shrimp Ramen. All three ramen had incredibly flavorful broth, delicious proteins, and fresh veggies. I'm looking forward to bringing my family members here and trying even more of the menu! They also have a very convenient rewards program: I was able to sign up and immediately get $5 off my bill. Then I gained a point for every dollar I spent. And after 100 points I will get another $5 off. As a frugal person, I really appreciate a good rewards system, and I think it positively enhanced the overall experience. A hidden but not so hidden gem in town. I was introduced to this place and had to come back two days later. Ordered some sushi and ramen to eat at home last night and I have to say the care Niuda took in packaging our feast was exceptional. My daughter and I tried the edamame, tonkutsu ramen, Dan Dan noodles and a spicy salmon roll. Everything tasted good. The only suggestion is for the Dan Dan noodles to have a little extra spice and flavor. I've had many Dan dans from a lot of Sichuan restaurants and this one was a bit of a miss from me. We've stopped into Niuda a few times now, and have really enjoyed the sushi every time! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I love that lunch is 15% off the menu prices! There's 15 minute parking out front for take out. My husband loves the "sushi burrito" which is stuffed full of crab and spicy and jalepeno and mango. I really enjoy the "simple sushi" like salmon and tuna rolls. The "American sushi" entree is great. The fish is very fresh. Most rolls can be modified to be gluten free and they have gluten free soy sauce. They're great about allergens and modifications! Definitely a place I'll continue to return to! read more

Niuda is located where Cafe 56 used to be. I came in a few days before Christmas and was pleasantly surprised by how cozy the interior was. Specifically, I loved the window seats! My friend and I opted for sushi. While I didn't think it was anything super special, the fish was very fresh, and the sushi was pretty good. One of my Instagram Foodie Friends recommended Niuda a few weeks ago, but I couldn't remember if it was for Sushi or Noodles. So, on my first visit, I ordered a bit of both. My wife and I split the Fire Roll as an app. After we ordered, our server told us it's one of their most popular rolls. The individual pieces were rotated 45 degrees up and then lined up on a long plate. They were filled with raw salmon and tuna and avocado, topped with spicy tuna, artfully sauced with a Hoisin-y Eel Sauce and Spicy Mayo and garnished with green onions and tobiko. It was beautiful, fresh and delicious. One of the better rolls I've had within 30 minutes of home. My Spicy Beef Noodle Soup wasn't called ramen, but with the good chewy noodles and that half egg, it presented as what some other places call ramen. I liked it a lot. It arrived steaming hot. The beef was thicker and more shaped than you would get in pho. The spice was manageably tongue-numbing like you would experience with Dan Dan Noodles. I loved the Bok Choy. In a good way, this soup felt homey and rustic, and it wasn't trying to emulate the noodle soups served by other top CT places. This downtown Middletown building has been there for a while and the interior has sort of a well decorated old school vibe. Service was very friendly and efficient. Disappointed... at least the restroom and tables were clean. Server was attentive. Godzilla roll was good with generous avocado and spicy tuna. Sashimi was a generous proportion, tasty with good texture. Miso was nice. Napkins are thick. However, the negatives were glaring. Cold tea was single use disposable plastic bottle so no refills and the kind of selection I usually make in a gas station. Lackluster calamari appetizer foreshadowed the "spicy" mayo sauce (actually bland and blobby) being a substitute for flavor on everything else. The biggest issue was five out of six different rolls were the same red, orange & yellow lackluster ingredients reiterated to the point they were barely indistinguishable from each other. Pic posted is the disheveled spicy maki combo I dissected to figure out what I had ordered and why it was not good. Another Asian Fusion restaurant? This one is up there in my favorites. Niuda is almost hidden being off the Main Street here in Middletown but now I have great reason to be in this area. Upon walking in I was greeted with very friendly staff that made me feel at home. Our waitress seemed very proud of their food which is always a great sign. To start off, I tried the Niuda Fried Chicken Wings which had this delicious sauce to go with it. The wings were light, crispy and meaty. What more could I want? The King Crab Crunch Roll was full of flavor and beautifully prepared. All the ingredients appeared to be fresh and the roll itself was very filling. Our main course was the Spicy Beef Brisket Noodle Soup. It was delicious! The brisket had this nice smokey flavor to it and was really soft but still had a nice chew to it. The noodles were pretty good and the broth itself was very spicy in a good way. Take a bite of brisket and finish it with some broth, it'll give you a nice kick at the end of your bite. Other than that, I saw that they have 15% their lunch menu as well. Just another reason to come here. I know Asian Fusion is everywhere and sometimes don't get enough business to stick around but this is a good one. I felt the passion and tasted the flavor. If that even makes sense. Off of Main Street Niuda is good food and good competition to those restaurants on the main drag. The food is tasty and they have some nice creations. Shown in the picture is their pink 'burrito'. I've only found one other sushi restaurant that offers this pink wrapping. We also had the avocado and peanut roll. Sounded odd but the peanuts added a nice crunch for a textural difference. Prices are comparable to most local sushi restaurants. No bargain but also not a ripoff. Just the same. The server was friendly and the service was quick. I will first get the reason out of the way for why I am giving 4 stars and that is because the chicken was not shredded, but it was cubed and tough/overcooked. It felt like it was put in the microwave, but still it was still cold. On the bright side, the noodles were awesome with very appropriate spice as I ordered it spicy. Hachi has been my go-to sushi spot in Middletown, but Niuda is definitely right up there with them in quality. Hachi advantages: much better deal on sushi for lunch, beautiful presentation of the food, and super friendly service. Niuda' s sushi was just as tasty, but the presentation was not as pleasing to the eye, and the service was efficient and totally fine, but not warm. On the other hand, Niuda has the upper hand on non-sushi alternative dishes. The pork gyoza dumplings were very tasty and I loved my vegetarian ramen soup. We will be back. read more

This was my first time at Niuda, but I was impressed with how fresh the sushi was and how accommodating the restaurant was! In fact, they time me almost everything could be made as Gluten Free, including replacing tempura shrimp with steamed shrimp! This time we had an Alaskan Roll and a spicy Tuna roll. The spicy had great flavor but came in a weird red color (just spicy Mayo). The Alaskan roll was fresh and tasty as well! Hong Mei runs an excellent restaurant. The food is delicious, the service is efficient. There is a brisk take-out business for the Asian fusion fare, but if you eat there then you get personalized attention from the chef(s). This place is a hidden gem, for sure. I came on a Friday afternoon around 3:30pm and it was slow inside with me being the only sit down customer, but plenty of traffic coming from outside to pick up orders. The man who served me was incredibly friendly and polite, and we even had some conversation going as well. The food all tasted very fresh, and I love that I can see the man behind the counter as he made the sushi. I got miso soup, a Middletown roll, a sushi sampler, and fried calamari. The flavors are bold and delicious. The calamari was really crispy and had a great crunchy bite to it with a sweet sauce. The Middletown roll had SO much of the crab meat on top and I thought that was awesome. It also has a sweet sauce and another savory one, with the smallest hint of spiciness to it. The prices were more than reasonable, with rolls varying around $7-15 on the menu. I payed less than $50 for everything you see in the pictures here. Cute little hole in the wall spot. It was our first visit and wasn't sure what to expect. Our original choice for dinner was unexpectedly closed and boy I'm glad it was. Dinner was fantastic on every level. We were seated quickly, and attended to almost immediately. After scrutinizing the menu, we decided on the Sashimi sampler, Pink Roll and the salmon teriyaki entree and shrimp teriyaki entree. The sashimi consisted of 3 types of fish (3 slices of each) and was fresh and tasty. Bonus... They didn't skimp on the size of the pieces. The Pink Roll was also delicious and plenty for 2 people to share. Finally, both entrees were also a hit. The salmon and shrimp were cooked perfectly . This alone is noteworthy because they can be messed up and overcooked so easily. Secondly, their teriyaki was not overpowered by sauce (which is common) but still had all the flavor profile that one would want to have in a good teriyaki. Coming from the Pacific Northwest we definitely know what good teriyaki is and so I have to say they did a great job with the entrees. The accompanying bok choy was tender/crisp and went really well with the seafood. Finally, once again I have to commend them on giving a customer of their money's worth. The portionsl were fantastic and we definitely left full and satiated. During our visit, the wait staff was very attentive and kind. They made sure that we did not feel rushed and accommodated every need. As new residents of Portland, we're glad to have been able to find such a wonderful sushi place nearby and will absolutely be visiting again. read more

Amazing. I had a fire special roll, and it was the best roll I've ever had. I've had a few ?thousand rolls in my lifetime from all over the world, so that is saying something. Then I had the spicy braised beef noodle bowl, and my mind was further blown. The beef was phenomenal, and the broth was stellar. The noodles were savory and firm. I was sweating from the spice, which also is a challenge as a long time spicy food enthusiast. The service was perfect. There were a couple loud, boorish oafs at the counter, but the staff handled them professionally and courteously and all was well. I ate and sweated in the sunny corner seat, which was just what I was looking for, and the host checked on me every so often without being obtrusive. I live an hour away, and I'm thankful.
