This place is definitely still one of my favorite skewer places in Flushing albeit I've only tried 3-4 other spots so far. Compared to street carts, it feels like I was getting meat that wasn't fatty on the stick. I dined in so was able to order from a tablet. It didn't seem like I was able to combine different types for the 3 skewers for $6 price so I ordered 3 lamb and 1 fish tofu. After waiting a bit, they served all the skewers on a mini hot plate grill with a tea light to keep it warm. I liked that the skewers ends weren't pointy but blunt and the meat was easy to take off the skewer without having to use chopsticks. The lamb one was definitely my favorite still and the spice level was decently spicy. Nothing a little milk tea couldn't calm down though. It's a very bright environment to dine in with giant lit up signs all around. Three different shops (coffee shop, mala hotpot and skewers) all share the same dine in space so you can order from all of them at once which is very convenient. read more

Had randomly decided to try this place while we were nearby (kiddo being nextdoor at the claw machines). We've definitely walked by this place MANY times going around the Flushing area but had never actually looked/tried. Later in the day, there's consistently a decent amount of people at the store front. To our surprise, the pricing is similar the the MANY BBQ carts around the area at $2/skewer but they even offer a $5 for 3 skewer deal on some items as well ! Some differences between this place and the BBQ carts is they DEEP FRY their skewers vs the BBQ carts around grill over charcoal. Also, their skewers (meat amount) are actually LARGER than the BBQ carts as well. Due to the deep frying, you get a GREAT crust on the outside while the inside is still juicy. Like what another review had said, this style is more Szechuan style vs the BBQ carts are Xinjiang style. Personally, i probably prefer the BBQ carts style more who has a nice smokiness and flavor from the charcoal as well as more cumin + spicy seasoning vs unsure what this one is. This version isn't bad, but just prefer the other styles more. I can see why this place is so popular ! I have never seen this type of food offering in California. This was an amazing cultural experience to see street food of this kind in Flushing. Are we in Hong Kong, I kept thinking to myself? NO, we are still in the USA! Cultural shock in Flushing/Queens NY. I love the process... select all your hearts desire skewers and let them fry it up. Pay for it and wait a bit. My favorite bites are the chicken skewers, they are hot, tender, juicy and packed with flavors. I am in LOVE! Prices are so good too!!! My friends and I decided to give this place a try after walking past the stand and smelling the delicious aroma of the skewers. We only ordered 3 skewers as we were planning on trying other places too, but it was a bit disappointing how slow the service was. We waited a very long time to even place our order; apparently the guy taking orders was out getting supplies when we approached the stand but there were 2 other men at the stand cooking and instead of helping us or letting us know that it would take a bit longer, they just kept looking at us and ignored us. When we finally took our order, it took another 15-20 minutes just to be served our skewers. When I asked to check on the order, I just got told to wait. We figured it might have just taken a bit longer to cook or maybe there were other online orders ahead of us (no one was in line before us), but when we got our food it wasn't even hot. The skewers themselves were really good though. We got the eggplant, pork belly, and chicken gizzard - the gizzard was my favorite as it was so tasty and the texture was perfectly chewy. It's just a bit disappointing how long we had to wait for just 3 skewers, but maybe it was just a bad day. I would definitely come back if it weren't for that. read more

With all the BBQ carts around Flushing, it's easy to overlook another skewer shop. However, unlike most of the grilled skewers from Xinjiang province, this restaurant is dishing out deep fried skewers from the Szechuan region. Other than the style of cooking, you can certainly taste the difference in the seasoning. With the grilled skewers, you get a lot of cumin as a base. However, these fried skewers have a Szechuan seasoning that is similar to much of its cuisine. So much umami with a kick. I love this place! I have been here easily over two dozen times, brought many friends here for their first time, and always left extremely happy. I have tried basically everything. My favorite skewers are listed below if you need some recommendations. - lamb - chicken - pork - pork ribs - pork intestine - chicken drumstick - squid legs - cauliflower - emperor mushroom - sliced lotus - rice cake Btw, though the storefront looks like a takeout shop, they do share seating inside with another restaurant. When it comes to skewers, I'm usually more drawn to the late night street carts floating around the neighborhood. Kwa Food operates street side but also offers indoor dining and after some coaxing from friends, we decided to sit inside with a number of different skewers. Ultimately, I was pleased and feel strongly that the skewer scene in Flushing is second to none. The name Kwafood is likely a nod to their Chinese name, (夸父炸串) which is Kua Fu Fried Skewers, The setup feels like a street food stall, but with the freedom to stay outside with takeout or bring the food in where they share the space with another business. If one is ordering a bunch of skewers at once, I would recommend the latter option. Quite a few skewers stood out for me but the ones I enjoyed the most included the sliced lotus (莲藕), fish cake (鱼豆腐), squid (轰炸大鱿鱼), sliced potatoes (土豆片), pork rib (十香排骨), large shrimp (深海大虾), lamb (羊肉), rice cake (年糕) and their regular beef (牛肉). All of them were well seasoned and were quite juicy all around. I wasn't expecting much, but I was surprised at how flavorful they were from start to finish. Prices range from $1.30-$5 per skewer depending on the kind of meat. Mandarin is always preferred with the staff and there is next to no service once seated. Drinks are separate and even things like napkins will be limited. I believe card is accepted, but I still think cash is the way to go here. The lamb skewers are fire. They sell 3 for $5 and it's the most delicious, fatty cuts with an amazing BBQ sauce. They are minimum $6 for card or you have to pay in cash. Things are made to order, and it's maybe only 10 minutes to get your food (or sooner). You have to order in Chinese, but you could also get away with pointing your way through. Note that there is additional seating if you want to sit down and order, but it's also lots of fun to order at the street stand and walk and eat! It's packaged pretty well. I've walked past this spot often and finally decided to give it a try. The fried skewers were seasoned really well, with a hint of spice that added a nice kick. However, I found the portions to be on the smaller side, especially considering the price per skewer. Never thought I'd get sewage water dumped on my feet/legs in the US while buying food but here we are. Went to get skewers around 4:30pm on 1/19/24. As we were asking questions and placing our orders, a colossal amount of sewage water spewed out of the pump (circled in red on attached picture of the storefront) onto the sidewalk all over my shoes and legs because I was standing directly in front of it. I screamed out of shock and after a couple of seconds proceeded to ask the girl taking our order what the f that was and she gave me a confused look and said "she had no idea" in English. Gave her the benefit of the doubt and still waited for my food because what could I do at this point? After stepping aside to wait for my food, she starts talking in Chinese (because she thought my partner and I couldn't understand Chinese) to her male coworker that it was indeed sewage water. So she knew what it was/could understand me but chose to lie and take no accountability or even apologize. When I took the picture of the storefront she hid so only got the male worker. From the way the store is laid out, it does seem like its the business thats attached to them called "Nai Brother" is responsible for the sewage water, but the fact that this happened while I was ordering fron Kwafood and the subsequent interaction is why I'm leaving this review here. Threw out my shoes when I got home... Still in shock this happened. Wow. This is not your typical skewer place, it's way better. The spices on the skewers are phenomenal, wow, amazing and delicious! I'm super picky with food so I can vouch for this place as a must go to. It's spicy, cumin-y, tangy and even a little sweet. I got the beef, shrimp and bread on a stick and the beef one was the best. The shrimp, I just ate everything and even thr tail was delicious. There is a wait in line but that's expected because it is quite popular. So addicting. Rice cakes are one of my favorite snacks, and this is my new favorite spot for it. I always walk by and it always smells so good but I haven't tried it until now. They have a wide selection of foods to fry but I have only had the rice cakes.
