When it comes to skewers, I'm usually more drawn to the late night street carts floating around the neighborhood. Kwa Food operates street side but also offers indoor dining and after some coaxing from friends, we decided to sit inside with a number of different skewers. Ultimately, I was pleased and feel strongly that the skewer scene in Flushing is second to none. The name Kwafood is likely a nod to their Chinese name, (夸父炸串) which is Kua Fu Fried Skewers, The setup feels like a street food stall, but with the freedom to stay outside with takeout or bring the food in where they share the space with another business. If one is ordering a bunch of skewers at once, I would recommend the latter option. Quite a few skewers stood out for me but the ones I enjoyed the most included the sliced lotus (莲藕), fish cake (鱼豆腐), squid (轰炸大鱿鱼), sliced potatoes (土豆片), pork rib (十香排骨), large shrimp (深海大虾), lamb (羊肉), rice cake (年糕) and their regular beef (牛肉). All of them were well seasoned and were quite juicy all around. I wasn't expecting much, but I was surprised at how flavorful they were from start to finish. Prices range from $1.30-$5 per skewer depending on the kind of meat. Mandarin is always preferred with the staff and there is next to no service once seated. Drinks are separate and even things like napkins will be limited. I believe card is accepted, but I still think cash is the way to go here. One can also order online through their website and order for pickup or delivery.

I ordered kwafood skewer bun today. I waited for half an hour to get my order, which was already frustrating. On my way back, I ate only half of it and found plastic twice inside the food. The first time I thought it might have been an accident, but then it happened again not long after. I was really fed up, so I decided to write this review. The kitchen staff clearly don't pay attention to hygiene. very bad experience to me.

Huge collection of skewers including several types of chicken, pork, seafood, vegetables and red meat. Skewers are cooked on the spot. Discounts are offered for buying combos. It's a to go store. No space to dine in. I loved the chicken gizzard skewer. Lamb was pretty good too. My family got few kinds of seafood skewers. Ours were cooked and handed over within 5 minutes. Must try snack if you are in the area.

The lamb skewers are fire. They sell 3 for $5 and it's the most delicious, fatty cuts with an amazing BBQ sauce. They are minimum $6 for card or you have to pay in cash. Things are made to order, and it's maybe only 10 minutes to get your food (or sooner). You have to order in Chinese, but you could also get away with pointing your way through. Note that there is additional seating if you want to sit down and order, but it's also lots of fun to order at the street stand and walk and eat! It's packaged pretty well. We never skip this spot when we're in Flushing!!

Passing by so many times finally gave it a try. It's actually pretty good. I have squid and fish tofu. I ask for lowest level of spicy. Flavor is good. Prob try other skewers next time.

cash only! huge variety of skewers. super fast service. good, but extremely oily. could use more seasoning & grilling. not the best skewer place in Flushing, but it gets the job done.

Ordered a handful of skewers. They were made fresh and fairly cheap. They were so moist and tender. Love the spice level and flavors. A great whole in the wall place!

Skewers here are bursting with flavor, and they have many wonderful options to choose from! I tried the port intestine, pork rib, and tofu skin. My favorite was the intestine, but you really can't go wrong here! Cheap and delicious.

Where the sewage came spewing out

Never thought I'd get sewage water dumped on my feet/legs in the US while buying food but here we are. Went to get skewers around 4:30pm on 1/19/24. As we were asking questions and placing our orders, a colossal amount of sewage water spewed out of the pump (circled in red on attached picture of the storefront) onto the sidewalk all over my shoes and legs because I was standing directly in front of it. I screamed out of shock and after a couple of seconds proceeded to ask the girl taking our order what the f that was and she gave me a confused look and said "she had no idea" in English. Gave her the benefit of the doubt and still waited for my food because what could I do at this point? After stepping aside to wait for my food, she starts talking in Chinese (because she thought my partner and I couldn't understand Chinese) to her male coworker that it was indeed sewage water. So she knew what it was/could understand me but chose to lie and take no accountability or even apologize. When I took the picture of the storefront she hid so only got the male worker. From the way the store is laid out, it does seem like its the business thats attached to them called "Nai Brother" is responsible for the sewage water, but the fact that this happened while I was ordering fron Kwafood and the subsequent interaction is why I'm leaving this review here. Threw out my shoes when I got home... Still in shock this happened. There is literally no sign to tell customers HEY DONT STAND IN FRONT OF THIS HOLE SINCE THERE IS SEWAGE WATER THAT RANDOMLY COMES OUT WITH NO WARNING.

Wow. This is not your typical skewer place, it's way better. The spices on the skewers are phenomenal, wow, amazing and delicious! I'm super picky with food so I can vouch for this place as a must go to. It's spicy, cumin-y, tangy and even a little sweet. I got the beef, shrimp and bread on a stick and the beef one was the best. The shrimp, I just ate everything and even thr tail was delicious. There is a wait in line but that's expected because it is quite popular. Also,There is a $5 cash minimum but they take credit card as well with a minimum. Skewers were around $1 to $2 each. Highly recommend!

The skewers here were so delicious! My favorite (by far) was the lamb, but I also tried the pork intestine, pork rib, and tofu skin, and they all had great flavor. Tip: $10 minimum to pay with card!

the skewers here are really good. the quality of the meat here is much better than the bbq skewer cart, even though the skewers are similarly or even better priced. ordered the cauliflower, lamb, pork spare rib and beef, and they were all delicious. will be coming back!

    Cindy L.

Sooooo delicious! We got lamb, beef, intestine, cauliflower, rice cake, tofu skin with cilantro, eggplant...all super yummy! We ate all on the street and came back to get more lol

Cuisine: 6 Service: 7…read moreDecor: 4 Value: 7 I have not been here in a long time. Maybe because the prices are no longer considered cheap eats. Or maybe because my taste buds have evolved over the years. Or maybe it's just not as good as it used to be. The answer is maybe all three and somewhere in the middle. I have never came here, or any other Latino-Chinese restaurants in NYC, for service or decor, so let's set that aside. The value is still somewhat there, but the food did not hit that nostalgic note I was looking for. I wanted to get the Fried Pork Chops (Chuletas De Cerdo Frita), but our server suggested the "juicier" Broiled Pork Chops (Chuletas De Credo Asada) instead. Sorry to report, if that's juicy, then how dry is the fried pork chops? I shutter at the thought. It was also under seasoned. I substituted the House Fried Rice for my side at an $4.50 additional fee. It was just okay and not worth the upgrade. Boneless Crispy Fried Chicken (Chicharron De Pollo) was also a disappointment. The batter was more hard than crispy, but the idea that boneless dark meat isn't more juicy simply tells me that the chef over fried the pieces. It came with Fried sweet plantains, which could have been a but more ripe but not bad. I'm not sure how I feel about the Beef Stew (Carne Guisada), which had relatively tender meat, but the sauce was so weak and lacked any real flavor. The black beans and white rice that came with it was decent. What might bring me back to this restaurant sooner rather than later was the Shrimp Egg Foo Young (foo Young Con Camarones). I felt that the eggs were cooked extremely well, but the star of the show was that delicious brown sauce full of umami. Having this over white or fried rice made this meal much more acceptable. I'm not sure when I'll have another craving for this type of food. If I do, I'll definitely get the egg foo young again. However, the other dishes were misses for me, so maybe I'll try the Fried Pork Chops and Shredded Beef in Tomato SayceRopa Vieja.

Warning to all with a pineapple allergy like me: do not eat the duck sauce. If you like spicy ask for hot mustard instead. Orange chicken was crispy and flavorful. I did not find it spicy, but my spice tolerance is very high. My fiance had the chicken with broccoli and it looked amazing. Try the cold noodles. They are chewy and delicious. For me the fried dumplings were good, but not great. Worth a try but nothing to rave over.

The menu here is split into two sections, classic American Chinese take out and Sichuan cooking…read more Seems to be a fairly popular take out spot, as they were fulfilling many delivery orders while I was there, but the interior is comfortable and elegantly decorated unlike a standard take out only spot. I ordered the cured pork with garlic shoots and dry fried green beans. The cured pork was quite salty, and paired well with the buttery, tender leeks it was cooked with. The dish was not overly oily, and was pleasant over white rice. I enjoyed the chewiness of the pork which allowed you to experience the complex flavor. The green beans were well fried, with characteristic texture signature to this dish. The seasoning was very well balanced and not overpowering to the natural sweetness of the green beans. I would recommend either dish. They were both slightly toned down iterations when compared to the times I've eaten these dishes at other Sichuan restaurants in flushing, but still well seasoned and well cooked. The service was very warm and friendly, and many other customers seemed to be returning regulars.
