Steamed pork 4. Fried Tiny Buns with Pork

We had a variety of food, including steamed pork buns, and various soup dumplings. The service was very quick, everyone on the staff was accommodating and kind, and the food was incredible. Very clean place. Highly recommend!

Short reviews SJB/Sheng Jiang Bao are better than the XLB here (go to other spots for Xiao Long Bao.) Order the Kao Fu. Order the Wuxi Ribs if you don't mind a mild sweetness. Excellent Lion's Head and Rice Cakes also. This is my favorite Shanghainese restaurant in the city, and my many visits have reaffirmed it time and again. I'm not going to write a long review, since I've been here a bunch of times, but I'll list some of my favorites. First off, I prefer their Sheng Jian Bao to their Xiao Long Bao/Soup Dumplings, as I think the former has a better texture and a more flavorful filling. I also find the skin a bit better in some spots, though I do like the large pork filling inside theirs. For cold dishes, the Kao Fu/marinated gluten is delicious, and they also make good versions of smoked fish, aromatic beef, and a pretty solid wine-marinated chicken. For larger plates, their take on Lion's Head Meatballs is excellent, along with the Wuxi Ribs and their Shanghainese Rice Cakes, which have a perfect mix of crispiness and a bit of chew (I will say the protein portion has shrunk, but that's happened everywhere.) The more broadly Chinese dishes, such as the Chicken and Eggplant in Garlic Sauce, Salted Fish, Tofu, and Chicken Casserole, as well as the Sauteed String Beans, are all solid. The Crispy Half Duck is alright, and they have a unique take on Noodles With Meat Sauce/Zhajiangmian, with much thicker noodles than the typical variant, while the soybean has a milder fermented flavor. This is an excellent Shanghainese spot. It's not my favorite for a few dishes, but the overall quality of most dishes is just better than most other spots. Would and will go back again and again.

Service is still great. Promptly greeted upon walking in and they gave me time to look over the menu without rushing me. This place has good lunch specials (order before 3pm). Generous portion sizes and comes with soup! You can also request brown rice at no extra cost. Good deal for $10.95.

Fried shrimp with wonderful fruit sauce

This is our go-to spot for xiao long bao when we don't want to go into Flushing. We always order one of the pork and one of the crab/pork. They come with 6 in each steamer basket. The skin is thin and the broth is hot and flavorful. The accompanying ginger black vinegar sauce enhances the flavor. We have also tried the fried jumbo shrimp. It looks like honey walnut shrimp, but the "wonderful fruit sauce" threw me for a loop. It tasted good, but probably wouldn't re-order this dish. The pan fried noodles with beef had a good flavor, but the noodles were not my favorite. Having tried these noodles, I prefer the thinner, crispier noodles at Canto places. Had the eggplant, very flavorful but a little oily. All the portions are big so they're good for sharing. The servers were friendly and came by often to check in with us, clear off plates, and refill water.

Shanghai zhen gong fu serves some classic shanghai food - they also have some canto food also on their menu. We got their tangerine beef which was tasty - although we didn't taste tangerine flavor as much as we expected to. Their fried tiny buns with pork were good - I've had better elsewhere, but this still hit the spot for someone in our party. Ate here today for my birthday that I went with my mom and sister to try this place out for the first time. We had ordered and tried the pork xiao long baos, pork noodles, shumais and chicken feet that we said that it tasted really good and delicious. The service there was also attentive and super fast. We couldn't agree more about it. Finally, I would definitely eat and come back again next time! :)

Cuisine: 6 Service: 7 Decor: 6 Value: 7 Overall: 6 Owner is Cantonese, but the restaurant name states Shanghainese cuisine. More important to me, where are the chefs from? Apparently, one chef is from Guangzhou and another from Wenzhou. Being born in Shanghai, I was skeptical if the food would be up to par. I have eaten here a few times before, mostly take out due to lack of parking in the area. They have a parking lot out back, but only two spots. Anyway, most experiences were pleasant, but I wanted to give it one more dine in experience before my review. Well, I ended up visiting twice by chance last week. Sticking to traditional food from Shanghai, we ordered some of our favorites that you don't often find in other Shanghainese restaurants. Here are my thoughts on each. Pork Soup Dumpling (6/10) - The wrapper was thin on the bottom, but quite thick where the folds are. It was also somewhat sticky. Soup inside the dumpling was light in flavor and meat was a bit mushy. Crab & Pork Soup Dumpling (6/10) - Same quality as the pork version. The broth was lacking in much taste of crab. Some people at my table found it fishy. Pan Fried Wonton (7/10) - Broken skins, so not as juicy as I want them to be. However, the wrapper was somewhat crispy and filling was decent. House Special Deep Fried Pork Chop (6/10) - Though crispy, the batter is too stiff and hard for me. The pork itself was a bit dry as well, but not bad. Jellyfish (8/10) - One of the best things I ate at the restaurant. Plump, bouncy, and paired well with the pickled daikon radish. Braised Buffalo Fish Belly in Brown Sauce (3/10) - The dish I looked forward to the most, but also by far the most disappointing. The fish itself was overcooked and needed salt, while the sauce was too light and lacked the proper flavors. Half Crispy Duck (7/10) - This is something we make at home once every few years because we try to be healthy and not fry foods at home. With that it, done properly, this dish is superb. The version here needed more spices and was a little dry. Wuxi Pork Sparerib (8/10) - This dish actually does not taste at all traditional because it is not sweet enough. However, I'm not hating on it since it was delicious and my favorite item from the restaurant. Bean Curd Edamame with Pickled Vegetables (7/10) - I prefer a slightly thicker and softer bean curd, which is what I grow up accustomed to. Overall flavor was still pretty good. This restaurant is certainly serviceable. They even have a few items I would return for. However, I am being picky because I know what great Shanghainese cuisine tastes like. For most people, I believe they will have a decent experience.

Hot & Sour soup (they've a few options, but broth was on point)
    Jon P.

I was travelling = delivery order, and left them a one (1) star review. I'd not eaten (like 36 hrs), and no spoon for hot & sour soup, and I was hungry af = poor review. But the other dish (chicken with Chinese broccoli), more costly than other broccoli btw, and has medicinal value, was excellent. So I made time to visit the place before I left. RESULTS: they def did not deserve the 1 star review. I took that down (really sorry). Food here is terrific, as in like REALLY great. I'll be back with more people, sample broader menu, but here's so far.. - using quality and well prepared ingredient, including more costly items. kitchen and chef knows exactly what they are doing. - staff are working really hard, and the few dish I tried all on point (soup dumplings, hot & sour soup, tofu casserole). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Really need to be in person, and needs a group![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Shanghai Lo Mein with Pork

After learning of a 1 hr wait at Ocean Bay for dim sum on a Sunday, we decided to skip over a couple of blocks to Shanghai Zhen Gong Fu for Shanghainese dim sum instead. We did not have to wait long for a table as there was a perfect table for 6 when we walked in, though there was a line of people later on. We had varied tastes around the table but got something for everybody. Who doesn't like Xiao Long Bao Soup Dumplings?? So we started with a basket each of Pork XLB & Crab/Pork XLB, 6 to each steamer basket. This didn't seem like much, even though we ordered a lot of other dishes, so we got another crab basket to come later. Definitely prefer the crab XLB because the crab meat gives it a sweet flavor and the guts turn the soup inside the dumpling a tangy orange. Just remember to pinch a small hole in the dumpling wrapper to drain the soup into the soup spoon because it is "souper" hot! Add some vinegar & ginger to enhance the taste if you so desire. Soon another basket of plain pork XLB showed up, but we said we ordered crab, but not to worry, we'll eat those too! Other tasty dishes we had uy the cold mock vegetarian duck, which is just tofu skins rolled up and seasoned with soy sauce, pan-fried pork dumplings, a regular favorite. Someone wanted the spicy fish head soup, but since he would have been the only one eating it, we changed it to braised fish fillet & tofu casserole. For noodles, we had 2 bowls of Jia Jiang Mein with meat sauce, which I've been eating since I was a kid and a plate of Shanghai stir-fried thick noodles. There are plenty XLB shops all over Queens, but we might stop by here on Queens Blvd more often. Free street parking on Sundays, but it fills up fast.

Upon walking in I was greeted by a warm welcome and it reflected through out the whole waitstaff there. The soup dumplings were pretty good and would definitely come back for them. I will defintely be back for those and to try other things in the menu. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Also, you know this is a go to spot when you have all regular customers around you.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    108. Sauteed Dry String Beans
    Lauren P.

My family and I have been coming here for a few years now and it's in our rotation of Saturday family lunch spots. Crab Meat & Pork Soup Dumplings: My favorite soup dumplings! The skin is nice and thin (!!) and the filling is flavorful. Served with vinegar and ginger. Sauteed Strings Beans: I don't know how they make them but these beans are crispy and crunchy and bright green--beautiful. Eggplant w. Garlic Sauce: My gawd this is my favorite dish ever--have it with white rice and it is just *chef's kiss*. It is on the oily side but it's less oily than other places. Come out PIPING HOT and the eggplant is soft but not mushy. Yummm Crispy Whole Yellow Fish w. Chili Sauce: Something new that we tried but honestly very good and would get it again. It isn't too spicy, maybe just a lil kick. Fish is nice and crispy and fresh (not fishy tasting). Sauce also goes well with white rice. We're regulars here so the staff knows us and chit chats with us (Canto/Mando) but I have overheard them with other customers and they are equally as friendly. The space is better for smaller groups (4 people) but I have definitely seen them accommodate for groups of 10 or so.

    127. Spicy Stewed Beef in Soup
    Rion C.

Heard that the food here is tasty so I went with family to try it out. The staff is extremely friendly and not usually so at most other Shanghai restaurants so that was a pleasant surprise. There's about 10-15 tables of various sizes. We had a salty tofu chicken casserole, a sautéed watercress and enoki mushrooms, a crispy yellow whole fish in sweet and sour sauce, and a braised stewed beef in soup noodles. They were all ok and not outstanding. HOWEVER, what gives this place its 4-star rating is its dumplings. We had both the soup dumplings and the fried pork dumplings. Both were very flavorful and even dare to say beat the taste of the Michelin rated Nan Xiang Shanghai Restaurant in Flushing, Queens. It was surprising to how tasty these dumplings were. There were plenty of soup in the soup dumplings. I would just come here for the dumplings. Sorry didn't take pictures of these as they look like everyone else's but taste better! Will definitely be back before it gets too popular and will have to wait to be seated.

And more: cold dish - garlic cucumbers to start. Classic soup dumplings (pork filling). I usually do not order the crab meat or other varieties as those seem gimmicky. The restaurant gives you a free order of pork dumplings with dine-in purchase of $20+. This visit I did try a new noodle dish - egg noodles with crab roe. It was interesting indeed. While I've had better crab roe toppings (this one was a bit greasy//oily for me) I can see why they added it to the menu. It's been a trend. The Peking Duck and crispy skin pork are still my go to dishes when coming here. It's just not easy to make at home so I'm happy to buy it. Totally classic dishes. We also ordered the beef pancakes which is also a great sharing plate. This spot is a keeper. Tonight, my husband ordered the General Tso's chicken, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Of course, I couldn't resist ordering a little too much for myself-- fried bean gluten, mixed vegetables, pan fried udon noodles, and brine squid. As always, they sent out complimentary steamed pork soup dumplings and, to finish, two sweet fermented glutinous rice soups for dessert. I even had leftovers--udon noodles and fried bean gluten--for lunch tomorrow. Everything we had was absolutely delicious and carried a deep sense of nostalgia--the flavors truly brought me back to where I grew up in Shanghai. Needless to say, we left very happy and will definitely be back again soon.

Since we have relatives who live on opposite ends of Queens, this location has always been a good halfway point. Two things: 1. This place is truly exhausting during dim sum on the weekends. People will try to get on top of you (and I don't mean that in the best way). 2. Dim sum selection is intentionally small and service is slow to provoke you to order the expensive entree dishes. The dim sum is nothing to write home about at all and is just sufficient enough for any dim sum craving. There's no consistency with the quality, as well as the quantity. The same also goes for the large dishes, though I've only eaten dinner here once or twice since the new management, and there wasn't anything memorable. Service is generally okay, but the employees are definitely overworked during the weekend lunch hours. It's as if everyone who doesn't live in or around Flushing comes here, hence the insane crowds.
