Food was mid The squid was the best part of the meal but the others were not too flavorful. It was interesting when they had us go upstairs to what was a room converted into "dining space" - very sketch hahaha. Portion was much smaller for the price (as opposed to what most comments had mentioned). Skewers were also quite bland, especially the chicken skew, was a bit disappointed. Slow service, no refills on tea and no attention to when we were done. We just went back downstairs and asked for bill, probably could have dined and dashed and they wouldn't even notice but of cutouts r we wouldn't do that Overall interesting expeirence since it's my first time dining in a normal "room" at a restaurant, almost felt like I was in china but probably would not come back
Finally got to dine in here last month. My bf and I have ordered take out previously but always wanted to experience the skewers fresh! They use a charcoal grill and you grill the skewers yourself. We ordered beef, chicken, and squid skewers. Also got an enoki mushroom appetizer and the cold noodles. The enoki mushroom wasn't the flavor I imagined so wasn't a huge fan. Really liked the cold noodles though! The skewers cooked pretty easily, we liked the beef the best. They were lightly marinated in some sort of sauce, making them really good and tender! The chicken was alright but we ended up overcooking some of them. Didn't like the squid, was hoping for the tentacles but realized the menu didn't specify! The dry spice mix, LOVE. Wish I knew what they put in here so I could make some myself!!
This would be a nice place to experience making your own skewers and meeting with friends. Recommend try their kitchen items. It's good! Friendly staffs, maybe too busy, don't have time to check with table if there's any needs etc.
Such a great experience to make your own skewers. The restaurant is spacious with a few tables available for dine in. There is a lot of different food options you can choose from and a lot of different variety. You can also choose to grill your own skewers or they can do it for you. The service is quick, only complaint I have is that they didn't serve us any water while we sat down like most restaurants do. Do get the jellyfish salad as it's very refreshing after having a lot of skewers. My favorite skewers was the beef and lamb. A good experience if you never made your own skewers before with your own private fire grill pit!
In the mood for some hot, fatty but deliciously marinated lamb skewers that perfectly cooked with a slight charm? Then, You'll love this spot! Other yelpers are right, spot can feel a little shady but you see locals standing on line just to get a table tells you it's worth the spot. Staff are super efficient, quick and polite. Food is fresh in spite of the dilapidated decor. Our group divulged in lamb, beef tendon and intestine skewers along with the sweet and sour pork and string beans stir fried in garlic (all of which I recommend). You can also ask them to get it 80% of the way and your party can grill the remaining. FYI they give a spicy Cucumber salad on the house which goes great with everything to cleanse the palette.
Very bad taste and service. My partner got stomachache after having it. I feel so sorry for him. Don't recommend going. A waste of money. Very expensive. Ambiance is okay.
Our meal at Ming Xing was delicious and loads of fun. Loved that we controlled grilling the skewers ourselves as we like a little more char than the owner suggested. Eggplant, potatoes, and peppers was outrageously good. Dongbei style. Fabulous snacks: the best boiled peanuts I have ever had as they were a touch firmer and crunchier than typical. Radish kimchi was spectacular. Not surprising as the owner's family came from Korea to Dongbei. Apparently a lot of folk got out of North Korea and emigrated to Dongbei. The trick to the skewers is seasoning them. They gave us a plate of a chile mix. There was a spice box with cumin seeds, salt and MSG. I put little piles of each on the side of the plate and each piece got 4 dips. The more dipping, the better the flavor. Their grills are gas-powered and they put charcoal on top. We found that as the coals got hot and turned white that the flavor was maximized. We ordered 20 skewers and the stir fry but that was a little too much. Next time we need to go with more people. The owner was super nice We has a great chat about the food, Dongbei, and his family coming from North Korea before he was born.
Pleasantly surprised! Pays (in this case) not to listen when someone else steers you away, because I ventured into MingXing anyways....immediately seated and greeted and offered a drink. Good start. Staff was very helpful with ordering and I took his suggestions of lamb skewers and an order of dumplings. Lamb arrives almost fully cooked, allowing you to put the finishing touch as to your own preferences over the flaming grill imbedded in your table. Absolutely delicious lamb, although the skewers are smaller than you expect so order one and another half order in order to satisfy a big appetite. The dumplings were fresh and amazing! Highly recommend when in the area. I know I'll be returning for more. Enjoy!
Right before you walk in, you question whether or not you're walking into some grandmas $20 massage joint. It's a bit divey looking. The waiters are straight up from China and I couldn't tell if they even understood English. But the food is amazing. The variety of meat skewers were delicious. Especially the lamb and the lamb leg skewers. The tripe with chili oil is good. I hope this unknown spot stays unknown cause I am likely going to be a frequent patron.
Delicious!!! All the dishes we had were excellent. We really enjoy the eggplants and potatoes dish. The salad with vinegar dress is refreshing to have with the grilled meats. We went around 2:30P-3:00P on Sunday. The restaurant was pretty full and only 2 waiters but they still gave good service with no bad attitude.
A great spot away from the center of Flushing, great for large or small parties! Came with a group of 8 people, ordered a bunch of skewers, dishes, and drinks. According to my friends, the highlights were the shrimp fried rice (made w short grain rice and was "super buttery feeling, slightly sweet and salty, the best fried rice ever"), the grilled bullfrog (small chunks in peppercorn sauce with bell peppers, wood ear mushrooms, and other veggies), the fried pork in vinegar sauce, and the mapo/mapa tofu. The menu has both Chinese and Korean items and descriptions, but the owners are Korean. Service was fast and great on a Saturday afternoon. I only deducted a star because there were very little vegan options. I was not able to order anything, so I just sat and ate the complimentary sides (seasoned boiled peanuts and marinated onions, both great!). Wish there were labels on the menu for vegetarians and vegans!
I ate here with my boyfriend who only understands Chinese but with pointing out what we wanted we were able to order. Flushing is full of diversity and this hole in the wall delivers through its traditional Chinese and Korean cuisine. The staff speaks Chinese, Korean, and some English but I recommend coming with someone who can at least understand the first two. We ordered the skewers and it was delicious! The cumin mix isn't too over powering and the staff helps cook your meat if you're newbies. It's a small place but a Flushing gem.
This is a Korean/Chinese restaurant specializing in kebobs. We came on a Saturday night and it was about a 20 min wait for lower level sitting (have option to grill food on our own). We could have gotten a seat immediately on upper level but only the waiters can grill food. We ordered a variety of kebobs including fish tofu (my fav), lamb, beef, chicken, chicken gizzard, pepper and mushrooms, sojus and a pitcher of hot sake (have this cold too but we didn't make this clear to waiter so we just went with the hot sake). The total came out to be about $335 including tips. The sojus were pricier than most places and the pitcher of sake was $25. They first served us 3 small sides and we each got our own dish of seasoning. I really like this seasoning with the fish tofu! We enjoyed grilling on our own but some took too long so we asked the waiter to give it us pre-grilled 50%. Dumplings were on the house! Overall, the kebobs were amazing and filling. Waiters are really attentive and come to your service as soon as you ring the call bell at the end of the table.

Although cooking at the table is novelty, it gets old pretty quickly. I ordered lamb skewers, beef skewers, chicken skewers, squid and some cold spicy dish. $90 for 2 people. Lamb is great, but the beef, chicken and squid lacks flavor. The fume from the charcoal make me sick toward the end of the meal. I will stick with eating skewers from a street vendor. read more
This place is the best for drinking and snacking. The fare is just so conducive to both. Of course you must order the skewers and make sure to liberally use the seasoning. The cold skin noodles are a great dish to go with the skewers, something cool and tangy to offset the heat. Skip the fried rice, it was too sticky for me. Their dishes tend twards spicy, so be forewarned. read more

Found this place when I was searching for new skewer places to try. This is a Korean/Chinese spot with 2 floors. The restaurant itself is very plain and some may think the interior feels like an older apartment building. Seating is average in size. Overall the food and service was great. We had some skewers and some regular dishes. The flavors were good but the one thing I would've preferred is that they season the skewers for me but that's just my opinion. My husband thought it was better that he got to adjust his own seasoning. There's actually tables where you can grill your own skewers but the upstairs tables, which was where I sat, didn't have those. There's a lot of skewer places out there nowadays so it's hard to say if we would choose to come back here. But if you ever want to experience grilling the skewers yourself, this is definitely worth a try! read more
Wow, what a great find, definitely a hidden gem in Flushing if you're a fan of Chinese style skewers. The location is a little out of the way from the main area of Flushing, and a little difficult to find. That's why if you're not from the area, google maps will be your best friend. Once you get there, it's definitely not the cleanest restaurant but the food is most definitely delicious! They specialize in skewers, but also offer other variety of foods to complete your meal. We chose to do just skewers and it was still very satisfying. The way it works is you order what kind of meat skewers you want and then cook it yourself on the table. They provide you dry seasoning on the table for when you're done cooking to put on the meats. We were very confused on what to do and how to properly cook the meats since it was all of our first times there so the waiter saw that, and kindly helped us cook most of the skewers and showed us the way. Thank you! So, if you have no idea what to do either, don't be shy to ask the waiters for help! There will be a language barrier if you don't speak Mandarin but you'll see them doing it and be able to figure it out yourself. I highly recommend getting the beef skewers because oh my god, they were so juicy and went sooo well with the house seasoning. We ended up ordering more after finishing our first order because it was that good. Overall, it was a good experience with yummy food. Definitely recommend. read more
Their specialty is the varieties of skewers. The best one is lamb but their beef was also good. It's a casual restaurant where you can go and eat comfortable. Price is a bit expensive side but it is worth it. Sometimes they give you the steam dumplings as a complimentary. If you want some authentic chinese foods, I recommend to try this place. One downside is their bathroom is too small and close to the sitting area. read more
I have been coming here for some time now and I can officially say that this is the BEST skewers place in Flushing. The servers know me pretty well by now but they are very kind and make sure that I'm satisfied with the service. I plan on coming her for a very long time!!! I highly recommend this place. read more
This is the confessions of an amateur BBQ cook. Being brought up instilled with strong Asian morals, I can somehow hear my mom screaming to my ear of how I might end up starving if I don't learn how to cook for myself. Walk past the flickering lights of suspicious looking spas and massage parlors still open late nights and you'd find MXBBQ amongst some mom and pops Korean comfort food. Restaurant is relatively small in size with about 10 booth tables each capable of seating 6 patrons comfortably around a fire pit filled with burning charcoals. Menu displays a wide variety of preset skewers (10 lamb skewers for $15. 5 squid for $10..). They also presented each one of us with a dry cumin rub. We took a deep breath as they presented us with our plates of raw skewers, and thought, oh piece of cake, we got this! WRONG! Fire burned through and charred our skewers. I'm sure at this point the servers realized the idiots that we are and came to our help. They patiently snipped off our charred ends, and schooled us on proper BBQ techniques. Rule of thumb - 3 skewers at a time if you can't keep an eye on them every few seconds. - rotate your skewers, the drippings from the melted animal fats will fuel the fire. All in all. Great experience. Skewers presented in metal rods similar to kebabs. Rub on the side makes it possible to self adjust your flavor preferences. Reasonable price point. Rec large parties as laughing at our amateur "cooking" was definitely another highlight of this fun meal. read more

I'm a little in the middle with this place. I like that it was a Chinese Korean mix..maybe a tad bit towards the Korean side. The appetizers were definitely good. They give you spicy little fishes, broccoli, mushrooms, peanuts, bean sprouts, and kimchi. I also ordered the Sliced Tofu with peppers. Delicious and healthy. We ordered Chicken Gizzard, Chicken, and the Beef kebabs. I like the idea of cooking the meats by yourself and cook it over a hot burning coal fire pit. They give you spices and seasoning on the sides. While the seasoning did help a little, I just wish there was sauces on the side or maybe a little bit more marinating. The beef kebabs were definitely the best. 2 problems I had was 1. The medal stands they put over the fire. We noticed ours was on the floor and like that for all other tables. Is that even sanitary? Is it clean. It seemed a bit shady to us. 2. The service absolutely slow for us. They took forever bringing out our food. They always refilled other tables drinks, but seem to always walk past us and they are holding a full pitcher of tea. They apologize to us and gave us complimentary dumplings. We thought it was nice, but it turned out they gave all guests dumplings. I'm not sure if I'll come back to this place. read more
Looking to expand our Flushing restaurants, we came upon Ming Xing BBQ. The food is a blend of food from the border of China & Korea. The food was great, no frills, and grilling our skewers ourselves. Ordered: Mapo Tofu, Braised eggplant, Cumin lamb, gizzards, and squid skewers. All the above was $50. quite a good deal. The skewers sat over lump charcoal that we happily turned ourselves. That was a nice touch. Avoid Northern Blvd's insanity and come here where the parking is easy breezy. read more

How the F does this place only have 1 review and it's not 6 stars? Holly BBQ this place is BOMBS. so bombs that from here after, I'm going to downplay it in fear of the foodie fools hyping this place up and making it impossible for me to get my own personal Street meat grill at a table. Prices seem a little on the high side because they give you about 5-10 skewers for each order, depending on what you get. If you don't want to grill your own meat, don't go here (duh). Or if you don't like smelling bbq in your hair for the next hour (not gonna lie, I love it) then don't go here. Even when I burned the meat, it was delicious. I especially loved the shrimps (mad Asian with the heads intact) and the beef. Skip the pork short ribs, there are bones in it which are just kind of weird. I can't wait to go back here because I didn't try everything I wanted to try. Oops, I mean this place sucks don't go here. Don't go here!!! I already had to wait 45m for a table the first time, so yeah.... Just don't go here. read more
I ordered take-out from here and realized it was a huge mistake. Maybe it's better dining inside, because the take-out was bland and just pieces of meat (what's the fun in meat without the skewers?). I'd only come back to sit down and eat here. Also, their beef tendon is weird. Get the hoaves instead. read more

Whoa this place is a like a korean chinese fushion. You could easily have a skewer fest here. The menu is pretty extensive. The minimum about of skewers range from 5 - 10 depending on the kind of meat you're getting. They also offer a bunch of ban chan (korean side dishes) for free with your meal. Tea and cold water is provided as well. My only complain is that you can mix the types of meat even if they're the same price. I wish there was more liberty in this so I could try more varieties instead of eating a vast amount of the same thing. I guess this place makes it more suitable for groups. It would allow you to try more meats. The meats are slightly higher than what you pay at the skewer carts in Flushing/Chinatown/8th Avenue. For good reason though, the meats seem to be more tender than what I've had at the carts. This place makes for a great dinner or lunch, definitely not so much a snack since you could have a full blown meal from all this meat in addition to the banchan. They offer cooked dishes too if you don't fancy meat skewers. I think the owners are Chinese but they do provide Korean dishes. Beware of items running out if you come late at night, I had to modify my order a few times because the meats were sold out for the day. read more

Cooking with sticks, meat and fire dates back to our ancestors so maybe that's why we love it so much. This restaurant will be a new favorite for any street food foodie as Ming Xing specializes in bbq skewers. Skewers are cheap considering its the same prices as the street cart's. 10 skewers of beef, lamb, or chicken cost $14.99 while other meats vary in prices. The menu language friendly as it has Chinese, Korean, and English. The meat is lightly marinated so you can adjust your own flavors. You can tell how legit the place is because they use wood charcoal on top of the charcoal briquettes. This adds a unique smokey flavor that you can't get from just grilling on regular coal. The fire intensity is controlled by the knobs on the side of the grill. Steel sticks also allow the meat to be cooked more evenly. Each diner will receive a plate of premade seasoning mixture of chili powder, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, and sesame seeds. If you need something more to fill your stomach, they have other food options like dumplings 水餃 ($10.00), soups, and various cooked meat, seafood, and vegetable dishes. Ming Xing BBQ is one of the few do it yourself BBQ skewer restaurants trending around Flushing. These are the perfect places to relax with friends and have a drink and best of all, your clothes won't smell because they have good ventilation. The skewers here are as authentic as any BBQ cart and the food taste so much better knowing that you put your own labor into it. Not if you want to sit down and grill your own skewers by the fire...but they do have bigger tables that can fit 8 people upstairs but skewers will be grilled by the kitchen
