The menu here is split into two sections, classic American Chinese take out and Sichuan cooking. Seems to be a fairly popular take out spot, as they were fulfilling many delivery orders while I was there, but the interior is comfortable and elegantly decorated unlike a standard take out only spot. I ordered the cured pork with garlic shoots and dry fried green beans. The cured pork was quite salty, and paired well with the buttery, tender leeks it was cooked with. The dish was not overly oily, and was pleasant over white rice. I enjoyed the chewiness of the pork which allowed you to experience the complex flavor. The green beans were well fried, with characteristic texture signature to this dish. The seasoning was very well balanced and not overpowering to the natural sweetness of the green beans. I would recommend either dish. They were both slightly toned down iterations when compared to the times I've eaten these dishes at other Sichuan restaurants in flushing, but still well seasoned and well cooked. I had a wonderful dining experience at Grand Sichuan. One of the main reasons I went was because they serve Sautéed Loofah (sponge gourd) -- a rare dish that I've never seen offered at even the most authentic Chinese restaurants in the U.S. Before placing my order, I asked the waitress whether the loofah would be bitter -- since sometimes it can be, depending on the season. She kindly explained that, according to other customers' feedback, the loofah at this time of year is not bitter. Her explanation reassured me, so I decided to go ahead and order it. And she was absolutely right -- the sautéed loofah turned out fresh, tender, and not bitter at all. I ended up ordering two dishes: * Sautéed Loofah (sponge gourd) * Chinese Vegetables with Black Mushroom Both dishes were absolutely delicious, with flavors that reminded me of authentic Chinese cooking. On top of the great food, the service was outstanding. In addition to the waitress, another waiter was patient and attentive, carefully explaining the menu to me and even showing me pictures on his phone since the menu itself didn't have photos. That extra effort helped me feel comfortable choosing the right dishes and made the whole dining experience smooth and enjoyable. Favorite dishes: -The sweet and sour crispy fish -loofah -beef and broccoli -sour string beans and pork -Sichuan cold noodles -Singapore Mei fun Not the best: -The spicy tripe appetizer: the tripe was undercooked and too chewy. It needs to be sliced thinner and seasoned with more hot oil. For a sichuan place I was not impressed with this dish -shredded pork in garlic sauce: the veggies included were strange. Not authentic. Needs more spice. -wontons in hot oil: kind of soggy, not too spicy. Overall I think they need to increase the spice in a Sichuan place but they seem pretty good for standard takeout stuff like beef broccoli and sweet sour sauce things. We ate in and ordered out from this place for 25 years. But this week they refused a credit card order because they said we did a charge back. They referenced a 38 dollar charge from June 2019. I found it from my bank's database. They had listed their name as "Youway Village" so I didn't recognize it. But the mixup was immediately resolved and I had their charge recredited back to them the next day. Despite that - the restaurant falsely flagged us in their database as deadbeats. Yet they didn't make any problems with us for 7 years even though we continued to order and eat in. Just now they decided to activate their deadbeat list against us. My friend was craving Sichuan food and heard about Grand Sichuan from someone who posted in a Taiwanese group on Facebook. And I'm SO GLAD she was craving Sichuan! We only ordered from the Sichuan menu so can't speak to the other items on the menu. It was dinner on a weeknight. The restaurant was busy with takeout orders but there were plenty of seats available for dine-in. She was craving fish in chili sauce, and I was excited to see the loofah/gourd on the menu. I hadn't had that in a long time and it went really well with the spicy dishes. We also ordered beef tendon and gui zhou chicken. (We couldn't decide which Sichuan chicken dish to order so we asked the staff for her suggestion.) The chili fish was SO GOOD that she did not want to leave any behind and somehow found room to finish the rest after we each said we were full! The portions were big so we ended up with leftovers. Wish there were more of us dining that night so that we could have ordered additional dishes to share! I've been here before and remember it was pretty good. I ordered the chicken string bean dinner with egg roll and I wanted the vegetable fried rice. They charged an extra dollar for veggie fried rice which was confusing as I've never heard of plain fried rice. Usually the veggie fried rice is the default and included in dinner specials. I got home and saw they had extra veggies other than the string beans- broccoli which I won't eat and Chinese corn which is fine. There was a lot of broccoli which I put to the side. Then there was the default veggie fried rice with the carrots and peas. The taste was probably 2.5 stars. The dish was soggy and not very flavorful. Also, I didn't like getting charged extra for a veggie I don't like when the fried rice WAS veggie fried rice. I'll stick to my place up the block. read more

Grand Sichuan might be easy to dismiss upon first glance, but it has been one of the most recognized Chinese places in Forest Hills even prior to the recent uptick in competition. Their menu leans heavily on the American Chinese for good reason (#1), but they also have some traditional dishes that should be enough to keep the average Chinese cuisine enthusiast satisfied. The interior is as dingy and as dated as it looks from the outside. There are only a handful of small'ish tables in a fairly narrow space. Last I recall there was only one bigger table for a group of 6 or 7 but everything else is best reserved for 4 at a table. Like any place, service is a bit of a mixed bag. Chinese / English are both interchangeable here and the early evening hours are usually among their busiest times. It's more than likely because of the neighborhood, but the menu heavily favors the American Chinese classics. Think sesame chicken, general tso's, moo shu pork, and any meat in any sauce. (#2) The good news it that they do have a number of more authentic dishes, not all of which is available on the menu. The braised fish in oil (水煮魚), mapo tofu (麻婆豆腐), guizhou chicken (貴州籍), and even the dan dan noodle (擔擔麵) was solid. They were closed for a good bit during the pandemic, but they've since reopened to full service and offer takeout + delivery. Grand Sichuan II is a mainstay in these parts. They do a few things well, which if you stick to, you should enjoy the food well. The Moo Shu dishes whether pork, chicken or veggie are all great. A sautéed cabbage, bamboo shoot and wood ear mushroom base is seasoned well for all versions. Three thin flour pancakes are standard with each Moo Shu order with options to add additional pancakes if needed. Often times three is not enough but rice is included with the order to finish off any remaining Moo Shu. One of the best dishes here is the Guangzhou Chicken. which are tender nibbles of fried chicken that can be really spicy. It's best to try this dish in house as take out can make the chicken pieces soggy but the flavor doesn't suffer regardless. It is cooked with generous red pepper and scallion and tender bamboo shoots. The combination of the red pepper and scallion greatly added to the flavor of the dish. Sautéed string beans are generally a good veggie dish. More often than not the beans are lightly sautéed and crisp. There have a been a few instances where the string beans have aged but generally speaking, this was been few and far in between. The Spicy Wontons appetizer are similarly a must for any order, a spicy, meaty, nutty and great flavor. So there you have it, if you stay with these favorites, I'm sure they will be yours as well. read more

The food tastes a little bit healthier than your usual fast food takeout spot. The waitresses are always nice and friendly even when they are super busy. I always go for delivery or take out but the restaurant always seem full of patrons and tables full of take out orders. The fish was very garlicky and spicy, just what I was hoping for. I would order it again. The shrimp tasted good. It just wasn't what I expected. The shrimp had a bread crumb type batter which was a little odd. But they give you good size shrimps and they're not all mushy like a lot of places. It had a mild spice. I also enjoyed their beef noodle soup. Good amounts of beef and noodles. Nice and spicy. More tendon than I'd like. Would prefer the noodles separate, but it's fine. Chinese food delivery/takeout is a hit or miss most of the time, especially in this area. I would argue that lots of areas of NYC has this similar issue so to find a decent to good Chinese delivery/takeout place takes a lot of patience and searching. With that being said, THIS Chinese delivery/takeout place is by far the best in the neighborhood. They also have dining in but I never do that just because they aren't really known for it. But I've seen people do it so to each their own. Some of their best offerings are on the lunch special menu. Their dinner menu is just expanded and also pricier. The prices has steadily climbed. It climbed $1 pre-pandemic, it climbed $1 post-pandemic. And with inflation, I hope that is all the price hike that there is. While no one likes price hikes, I think it is understandably. But at the same time when lunch specials now cost about $10 on average instead of $7 on average, it is hard to justify eating out as much as I used to do. The first time they kept telling me that they could not understand me that my phone was breaking up I tried calling back 4 times with the same results. As I sat at my appointment I looked on Yelp to find Chinese near me and found this place that was within walking distance. I'm glad I did. I got there and the place was small with a few tables for indoor dining but it was very clean and the woman taking the orders was very pleasant. I got Singapore Mei fun, fried rice and chicken with garlic sauce. The chicken had a good spice level, but the sauce could have been a tad looser, seems that's they added a touch too much of corn starch and the sauce started to congeal..
