Kwong Ming is an classic 70's kind of Chinese restaurant. With classic rock music playing in the background, Kwang ming delivers delicious dishes and huge portions. Seeing that this restaurant has been around so long I really have to say that the food is just ok. We arrived around 3:30 pm for an early dinner and maybe there was 4 other tables. Food came out pretty fast and was just warm almost like they reheated it. We all had chicken dishes and the chicken was very tough. Service was ok even though the waiter messed up my friends order. He took the order back in the kitchen and it came out pretty fast with the right order, again just warm and the rice was cold.. Bathroom was in a need for a good cleaning and the mirrors in the dinning room need to be cleaned. They really need to work on the food. read more

2/27/26. Party of 8. Some people really like this place but I think it's overhyped. Portions were on the larger side but their prices are a bit high. The dumplings/wontons had a very thick skin, the soup was warm at best and the garlic sauce was not spicy in the least. Service was just alright but relatively slow. Kwong Ming, the dine in Chinese restaurant of my childhood. In the late 1960's & 70's, we really did not venture out to eat much. And if we did, it was in close proximity to home without getting on the Meadowbrook or Southern State. That extravagance was saved for a birthday or other family celebration. In those days, there were few nearby sit down places, despite the obligatory take out in each of the Long Island strip malls no matter how big or small. In those days, I would have not have known of places like Fortune Wheel, The Orchid in GC or The Orient in Bethpage even if they were around because they were out of our dining radius. I never ate at Gam Wah in Carle Place which wasn't even that far. We lived in East Meadow, south of Front Street, where we had China Light across from where the relocated MAB liquor landed on Merrick Ave. While the North & far South shore folks had the dining dynasties of Homers with the likes of Empire Szechuan Gourmet & Mo'er of Homers (where Lee & I had our first date March 1991) Somewhere like Sun Ming in West Hills, was simply a world away. When I was really young, I thought that the little statue men in the Kwong Ming lobby looked like my grandfather, who was bald & wore a similar silk robe. Go figure. Yet, those figures remain today in their little glass boxes that divide the waiting lobby. On this visit, one that was pure detective work to see how the much adored egg rolls were, there was no wait on a Sunday eve after Thanksgiving at about 6pm. Besides being only 1/4 filled, not much seems to have changed. Red table clothes, older men waiting on tables in jackets. No music, but boisterous voices of one comedian like server. We marveled at the prices of the combo plates, 20-26 dollars, but included a lot. Chicken & Broccoli, meh. Fried rice, not the worst, some large chunks of dry pork, small cup of wonton soup is dark and has some bok choy leaves, is good. Egg roll, is actually huge, we can see lots of minced pork, filled w cabbage, but also has grease that drips when squeezed. Szechuan string beans, not bad, not memorable at almost 21 dollars. Dessert is ice cream..I try to be funny and ask for pistachio or cherry vanilla, the choices of my youth, but i receive a "vanilla, choc or green tea" answer. With a bit of snazzin up, some music with a hip play list, it might just be a bit more inviting. But not somewhere that we would return to given so many choices now. But we were glad to have walked down memory lane for about an hour. No drinks, no apps, bill was 57 w tax, tip makes it 67..thats for 2 full combo dinners. $$$ read more

My wife and I both wanted Chinese food but wanted to try something more special then our takeout place so we made a field trip to Kwong Ming. Extremely easy to get to from Mineola and easy to park in their lot. Overall, a very simple trip. We've been here before and were brought right over to our seats. Our waiter immediately brought over [the best] noodles with hot tea, the way it used to be. Stepping into Kwong Ming is like the restaurants of old. There were many people here, all seem to be enjoying themselves. There is just a calm ambiance about this place. Food here is brought in massive quantities, that's why you see everyone walking out with brown bags. There is always a "take-home involved here." Helene and I both had combination platters, Shrimp in Lobster Sauce and Boneless Ribs. All around.. perfect. We both loved our soups, Wonton and Egg Drop Wonton mixed. Hot and TASTY! The boneless ribs were big slices of tasty pork and the Shrimps were cooked perfectly in a rich-tasty sauce. THe fried rice in delicious and the egg rolls are 'history making.' Very disappointed. Hot and sour soup is amazing but not at that price and size. The shrimp dumplings were frozen! And not all shrimp. The dim sum was a large ball. Not tasty. Crispy duck was good but very fatty. Nothing else on the plate! The rest was fair. Way overpriced and not that good to return. Service was good and the place looks a bit outdated. Not returning. I used to go here as a kid. It's far but I was craving some of their amazing wonton soup. This is the best!!!! Hit the spot. I feel like the Chinese food you judge others by is the local place near you that is budget friendly and it changes your taste buds Kwong Ming is not that. There is so much flavor in their food. Also, You will not find a homemade egg roll on Long Island anymore. Or the any of the stuff they make from scratch. homemade fried noodles, their duck sauce is not from a vat of sauce and you can taste it. I have lived nearby this restaurant for the better part of two decades, and I have never tried it before. Let me tell you, I wasn't missing anything. The food is average Chinese cuisine; so where they get the idea to charge prices as if they were Billy Hong's off second Ave. in the 50s in Manhattan, or David K's or Mr. Chow, I won't soon understand. The service is strangely bad. The people who brought me here, suggested that these waiters have been working here for decades; well that's obvious. I am rarely critical of restaurants, but this just seemed obvious. Our waiter suggested a lobster dish, when asked for his opinion; what he brought us was two orders, in pie plates, of a whole Lotta scallions and something resembling Chinese food that was just chewy and doused in a sauce that was supposed to be ginger. I didn't check to see how much these two lobster dishes set us back, but I'm sure they were among the most expensive things on their menu, which, as I said is highly pricey for this fare. I've been going Kwong Ming for 25 years and while prices have gone up I still love the food. being Very busy i get the lunch specials and you definitely get a great lunch for a competitive price. They have homemade egg rolls, but you can't call ahead and ask for them to have special ingredients or eliminate some things you might be allergic to the other food is pretty average again service is uneven it's typical busy cold ambience of any Chinese restaurant. After reading all the positive reviews, I was excited to try the won ton soup and egg rolls among other offerings. One night, my wife wasn't hungry, so soup and egg roll it was! The egg roll was everything it was cracked up to be! Tasty, and without a doubt... the largest egg roll I've ever seen. The soup? It was OK, but honestly, I've had better. Oh My! What a gem this place is! Growing up our family would frequent a local Chinese restaurant and celebrated many a New Years Eve there as well. Time has passed and that way of service and food are a thing of the past, or so I thought! Visiting my sister and family I was missing certain foods and they recommended a walk down memory lane with a visit to this establishment. Decor is authentic Chinese plus the linen table cloth and condiments. Menus given and crispy noodles with dipping sauces arrived. This is something you don't see anymore and I was pleasantly surprised. We ordered off the family style menu where we chose two items from one column and two from another. Hot green tea arrived then our first course of Wanton soup with extra green onion and sliced pork! Next up egg rolls all around. These are the real deal egg rolls thick and crispy, wish every place could master these. Then came our main courses. Four large platters with both white and brown rice. So amazing! We had left overs there was so much food. Then came dessert of ice cream and fruit. Just like the restaurants of days gone by did. This was a memorable experience and highly recommend. Love love love the pan fried wontons, I could eat it every single day. I am very impressed with the authenticity of the food, one of the few places in Long Island that serve authentic Chinese food. My boyfriend is obsessed with the egg rolls and the shrimp toast as well as the pu pu platter. The beef chow fun was delicious! The sesame chicken was really good too, love when it's real white chicken and you can taste it. The waiter and the staff are extremely nice and even entertaining. My husband and my best friends husband both grew up in Wantagh and they had such fond memories of Kwong Ming so we all decided to go. Didn't know what to expect from all these mixed reviews but it was excellent! Food was fantastic and so much of it. Didn't love the egg rolls, which they are known for but the beef, chicken and spare rib tips we ordered were all top quality and so tasty. We loved it and can't wait to get back. Worst place ever, they used to be very good. The food used to be delicious now it's salty, greasy, hard and dry! The wonton soup was the best now the broth tastes like dish soap! The waiters are very old grumpy PREJUDICE PEOPLE! I told the owner he actually already knew this new employees were like this.The owner smelled like he soaked himself in a BATH OF URINE! I have been there several times and loved the food and the services. The owner is a very nice person. This time it seemed they were short of help, so everything took a bit longer than usual which was fine, But the waiters were absolutely rude. My sister asked for more mustard and the waiter said what we had was enough. Anything we asked for was ignored or an attitude was given. The food this time was mediocre at best. The boneless ribs were very fatty, and our meals came out cold. The bathrooms were filthy and disgusting! My family and I decided that we will not be returning. Oh Kwong Ming...I've heard many things. Finally made in! Very old-school Chinese for sure! "Column A, Column B" as well as other classic and American-ized Chinese dishes. My mom and I decided to order of the columns. With this meal choice we each got soup, choice of appetizer and dessert. For soup, I chose wonton and my mom chose egg drop wonton. For appetizers we both chose egg rolls. Soup and egg roll was excellent. Wontons had huge pieces of pork and the egg roll was tasty and not greasy. We also ordered shrimp dumplings as an appetizer. It came with 8 dumplings and was also fantastic in flavors. For our entrees, we chose shrimp in lobster sauce from column a, and boneless spareribs from column b. Very delish!!! The shrimp with lobster sauce came with 8 jumbo shrimp! Very generous portion. We also ordered pork fried rice, which was also yummy. Nothing at all was salty, which is very surprising when it comes to Chinese food. Very generous portions all around...we have enough leftovers for another 2 meals. I hate giving 1 star, but this deserved it. From being seated to leaving, bad experience. First off, no music! Nothing to give any ambience at all - just chatter and chewing can be heard. It took a waiter about 10 minutes just to come to our table. When he did, he asked if we were ready. We said not yet, but were set for an appetizer. He said "no, whole order when i come back." Didnt even take drink order, just walked away. When we finally did order, we ordered fried dumplings and #1 and #10 off the combo menu. I have a photo of the #1 that came out (attached). It was NOT Chicken Chow Mein. It was gross looking boiled chicken sitting on soupy onions. I mentioned I think I got the wrong menu item and he said "no, this chow mein" and walked away. We didnt want to argue. I didnt eat it and we asked to have it all wrapped up so we can leave. We didnt even touch the egg rolls (hand sized). I watched our waiter carry the food over to a stand, visible to the public. This i swear, he took the bag to place the egg rolls in, picked each one up BY HAND, and placed them inside the bag. This, after handling money/cash from a table prior. Needles to say, those were thrown out immediately when we got home. We did not want to cause a scene, as there were a good amount of customer dining. My wife ordered the #10 - looked appetizing. But the sesame chicken was chewy and fatty. It only came with 2 large pieces of broccoli which felt abnormal. I tried contacting the restaurant by email, but there is no email on their sort of older built website. Can try Instagram, but only 209 followers. If management reads this, I would like to discuss. Ideally, would like a refund. If not, something needs to be done about cleanliness. Speaking of that topic to end this - the bathroom was DISGUSTING. I walked out without going, and held it in until I got home. We will NOT be going back. Wasted $77 and i still tipped $20! Just bc we realize people are trying to just get by in this world. No need to ruin that for people. But wasted time and wasted money. They need to do better here and can. When I lived on Long Island, I patronized a couple of Chinese takeout joints, but when it came to dining in, there were two that I frequented. One was Palace of Wong, which is sadly gone. The other was Kwong Ming, and I remember it being very good. I re-visited New York this weekend from Florida and my son wanted Chinese so I thought of Kwong Ming. Well, it was even BETTER than I remembered. On a Saturday night and as crowded as it was, we were seated immediately; this restaurant is huge. We were promptly served the usual beginner items: noodles, duck sauce, mustard, water and tea. My son never tried Chinese tea before, but he did here, and he liked it. The service was phenomenal. The wonton soup was out of this world and just as I remember having it as a kid, with the bok choy, spinach and pork pieces. My local Florida restaurants don't have those ingredients in their soup. Next was the egg roll. WOW!!!!!!! The biggest, FATTEST, tastiest egg roll I have had in a looooong time. I would swear that this one egg roll would equal 2 or 3 in any other restaurant or takeout. It's almost a meal in itself. Then, the combination platters came which I thought would be minimal portions. WRONG!!! I ordered Chicken Chow Mein with Pork Fried Rice and the plate was LOADED!!!!! I already knew looking at it that most of it was going in a doggie bag as I was already full from the soup and the half egg roll. Our waiter was so efficient and delightful; he packaged my leftovers so quickly. I couldn't even finish my pineapple chunks for dessert, and he packaged those as well. I ate them on the plane the next morning as "breakfast" before we took off for Florida. My chow mein also came on the plane with me and I did eat it later that day for lunch and it was delicious!!! It was the best chow mein I have had since I'm a kid. He even gifted us each 2 almond cookies, which are typically an extra charge. Being that this restaurant is classically decorated, has absolutely delicious food and wonderful service, I felt compelled to write this review. IF ANYONE WANTS AMAZING OLD-WORLD STYLE CHINESE FOOD, this is the place. Their menu includes Family Dinners for 2, 3 and up. We never see that in Florida. YOU MUST GO HERE. After missing out on a friends Chinese night out and wife raving about Kwong Ming I had to take my family ASAP. We ordered all the favorites and they were all delicious. If some one mentions kwong Ming they usually mention the famous egg rolls. Well now I know why so huge delious and right up there with the best tasting egg rolls I had. We ordered a lot and we all agreed they serve some yummy Chinese food. Unfortunately we didn't care for the shrimp & lobster sauce. I don't know how this place only has this many stars, I eat Chinese food all over north shore south shore Manhattan. I can truly say this is the best Chinese food in Nassau county, it's like the old Richard Yees in Brooklyn, old school great quality food old school waiters. Tonight enjoyed Kwong Ming immensely. I haven't been here in years, only because I don't live in the area. So glad we decided to return. This long standing landmark restaurant is inexpensive and full service. Service was excellent and food was delicious. At first sitting we were set up with noodles, duck sauce and hot tea. My chicken chow mein combination meal arrived hot and yummy. This chow mein was surprisingly in a brown sauce. I was told that this is how they make it in China and is rarely found on Long Island, I loved it. Came with hot soup of choice, I had wonton, my favorite. Plus ice cream dessert of choice. The Food, Service & the Ambiance was excellent. I have eaten ate Chinese Restaurants before it was ok. When I came into Kwong Ming Restaurant I knew write off the bat this was a 5 Star Restaurant. You should see the egg rolls the size of them and taste of them is like a slice of heaven. All the food that we had there was excellent. Must try place to go to. You know you have a Great Chef buy the amount of customers that come in this was a Thursday night and there where a lot of people. The service they go above and beyond. The Ambiance was a 10 rating. I have to walk with a walker & they help me with going up & Downstairs even if it was only two step. I meet my wife friends there with their daughter for dinner they came up from Florida & West Virginia for a wedding and he suggested to go to this place. He as a little boy ate from this place. Every time he comes up he eats there. I live 35 Miles away from this place and will most definitely go there again. read more
