Yesterday, Saturday, May 9th, I went to Redlands with my family, and we had lunch at Kyo Sushi. We had gone to Redlands because we heard there was a pretty spot with beautiful umbrellas, and we wanted to check it out. But then my mom suddenly got really hungry, so we looked for a nearby place to have lunch. My brother found this restaurant and said it had high Yelp ratings, and since my mom likes sushi, he suggested this place and we tried it. We ordered the lunch specials: three sushi combos and one sushi & sashimi combo. All of the combos came with miso soup and california rolls. All of the sushi here was really delicious, and the California rolls that came with the sushi were also very tasty. The wasabi was shaped like a flower, which looked very pretty and was a nice touch. The staff were also very friendly and kind. The cucumber pickles and ginger were extremely fresh and delicious as well. Everything we had was tasty, and the service was friendly, so I really liked this Japanese restaurant. If it were closer to home, this would definitely be a place I would come to often. FYI: My brother asked whether the owner of this restaurant was Korean, but we were told the owner is Chinese.

This spot is an honest 4.5 for me. And it honestly came down to the salmon sushi. I know what true buttery salmon is like and unfortunately it just missed the mark. That being said, edamame is great. We got the spicy garlic. Perfectly balanced for both of those flavor profiles. I really enjoyed the calamari! Not at all chewy and that was my biggest worry when ordering. Reminiscent of an onion ring, but nonetheless I really enjoyed it. Now the service is what really brings it together. Such kind, gentle servers that genuinely care about your experience. Small place and they have been known to sell out!

It was my first time to Kyo Sushi it did not disappoint. I arrived a few minutes after it opened for the day and it was already getting busy. The service of the staff was friendly and welcoming. I ordered 4 rolls & 4 pieces of sushi. 2 appetizers! The garlic edamame & Baked mussels were my fave!! All were delicious and the portions of the sushi were generous. Overall I rate our experience a high one and recommend this place if you're ever in the Redlands area!

Still amazing service & food. Honestly, I love coming here & we don't really go anywhere else now. Everything from the service, ambience, & food. It's all amazing. I just wish they were bigger because the dining area is small, but maybe that's why they're so good! We even ordered sushi to take home for like a party, & even all that was still amazing, especially for price. We honestly have tried everything on the menu at this point so I can't give specifics. I will saw though my favorite is the Kyo roll itself over course, & scallop hand rolls. Hubby always gets baked rolls and recently he has been getting the cowboy roll & he loves it.

Awesome Sushi!! A lot of sushi places popping up, but not all of them have the trifecta: 1) clean restaurant 2) great taste/selection 3) large portions. This place has it all. Although a little small inside...you leave full! SERVICE: Seems like a family run restaurant. Very friendly people. You might have a wait because of limited seating. Also, limited staff, but the food is worth the wait. FOOD: Super fresh and tasty. My new favorite place. My daughter and I came here and wanted to try a few, and figured we could try 3 rolls since most places serve you smaller rolls nowadays. Well, as you can see - these rolls are HUGE. We had the Aloha crunchy, Redlands, and the Shooting Star. (Shooting Star was our favorite). Needless to say we had a lot leftover. So come hungry or come with a few friends!

I can't believe that this place is so close to me! Great quality fish, generous portions, and amazing service. The place is very intimate, with small tables. Be mindful of that when you're ordering multiple rolls. We had to rearrange the items on the table quite frequently, but I personally am willing to overlook the inconvenience when I know the food is amazing. We were taken care of by Austin who recommended us great rolls. Our favorites were the moon river and galaxy roll. Worthy mention was the bento. So many combo options and it comes with a lot of food--such a great deal. I'll come back again!

Great quality fish and nice presentation. Impressed by how affordable it was especially for the quality and flavor. Server was alone so service was okay for how may tables she had. Would definitely hit this spot again!

Some friends recommended this sushi place - its fairly under new management. Since this is our first time so we usually asked the staff what would they recommend or their favorite. So we ordered Fantasy roll, Washington (street, State or DC?) J/K and the no rice Moon River. Let me just say I think those are the 3 best we've ever had. They are fresh, refreshing and the combination they have in the roll are complemented each other well. The presentation of each rolls are very nicely done aesthetically. Just so well presented with a touch of the orchids piece makes it so elegant. Staff are so friendly, nice and kind and their recommendations is very good one. Attentive and polite. Parking is not a problem.

Small and cozy sushi spot with a great selection of rolls and lunch specials to choose from! Kind and welcoming service, even at a busy lunch hour. My boyfriend and I stopped by while on a road trip, and left with our sushi cravings fully satisfied. We ordered one lunch special (choice of 2 basic rolls, we chose salmon and eel), and a Redlands roll. Loved everything! Fish was fresh, flavors were on point, and the quality of the rice was also pretty good. Overall, definitely worth the money. Check this place out!

I didn't have a lot of time, as I was on a supply run before the snow storms. I wanted a light lunch and hoped to lean towards healthy / less expensive. I pulled up Yelp to guide me on my side quest. As always, it did not fail. Kyo Sushi was full of happy diners, and smiling staff. It felt quite welcoming, looked very clean and smelled delicious. I sat in a corner booth & selected their lunch sashimi bento box. It ticked all the needed boxes. Warm miso soup, pickled cucumbers, fresh salad, hearty slabs of raw fish, a California roll and staple of warm, white rice (added bonus of 2 fried goyza) It was perfectly balanced for what I was looking for. The staff was attentive without being overwhelming and gave me a rose as I left. I would definitely recommend as a quick, delicious option in the Redlands area

Convenient location with seating for parties of 4 or less. I got the Two Roll Special w/ Miso - $14.95. Great price. The service was friendly. However, it was a moderately long wait for my food even. The ambiance is pleasant with minimal/moderate noise level. Great for visiting with friends. The flavor was missing with my orders. Would give this place another try. I loved the miso soup. My Salmon Skin Roll was a little bitter. Spicy Salmon Roll: 3/5 Salmon Skin Roll: 3/5 Miso Soup: 4.5/5

The rolls were generous and very filling, and everything tasted fresh. These two rolls made me and my boyfriend so full. Remember not to over order, we were stuffed. The service stood out, the lady helping us was really nice and took the time to recommend items, which we appreciated. We also ordered the edamame and it was sweet and savory (not spicy at all) Overall a great experience with great service.

Small casual ambiance. One server and two sushi chefs behind the counter. Read a Yelp review comparing Kyo Sushi to Niko Niko, both in Redlands. We ordered chicken carage- a little over battered but still crispy & delicious; spicy california roll wasn't so spicy, however had a perfect balance of filling to rice wrap. Last Dragon roll was beautiful in presentation and taste! Texture was on point for all three. For our meals, we ordered 2 item bento: teriyaki beef and Salmon- both very good. Second bento had mixed tempura and california roll. All bento's came with rice, two pan fried gyoza's with sauce, salad, and miso soup. Last chicken stir fried udon noodles yakisoba seasoning with small slices of onion, zucchini, canbbage, broccoli, and chicken, served on a sizzling cast iron skillet- exactly what i've been looking for! Texture and taste of the noodles were perfect! Fried mixed tempura was a little oily, I would say this is where Niko Niko outshined. We will definitely visit again! If you have never been, I would definitely give this place a try!

We went all in and tried the omakase, and while it's definitely on the expensive side, it was worth every penny. The chef hand selects each dish, and every course felt intentional, unique, and honestly like its own experience. The atmosphere is really cool and a little different from your typical sushi spot. You head down a spiral staircase into the restaurant, which sets the tone right away, and there's also an elevator for wheelchair accessibility which is great to see. Once you're inside, it has a thoughtful, intimate feel that fits perfectly with the style of dining. Service was excellent from start to finish, and the fish was incredibly fresh and high quality. The dishes were creative and unlike anything else I've had locally. This is easily a 5 star experience, and there's nothing else around here quite like their omakase. The dine-in location is kinda speakeasy-esque, located down a spiral staircase and behind the sliding door mural. There is also a much more visible touchpad ordering system for orders to-go. Interestingly, the to-go menu is more expansive and includes rolls, whereas dining in does not. The dine-in seating is also all counter seating, wrapped around in a U configuration where you can see the food prepared. My friend ordered tuna sashimi and miso soup while I got scallop and salmon skin cut rolls. For a weekday evening, there was a steady stream of customers stopping by to pick up orders, and a few others dining in. The staff were nice and it was neat seeing everything prepared right in front of us. I also enjoyed seeing the omakase that the couple next to us had ordered. The space feels pretty underground (because it is), with small windows coverings that I think lend to the ambience. It is a bit tricky to find because it appears closed from the outside, so maybe better signage to slide the door open would be helpful. I'd be interested to try the special rolls that are to-go only. They looked amazing as they were being packed!

So, of course, I look on Yelp and came across Nko Niko sushi, which is regarded as one of the best sushi spots in Redlands. I actually went as far as double checking on reddit and the votes were definitely in! This place seemed legit so I had to try it. It's located in a shopping plaza so there is plenty of parking. There are several restaurants in the area, while Niko Niko is tucked away near the water fountains out front. As I arrived, they quickly sat me at the bar area and my typical rainbow roll and I tried their snow cone roll. The rolls were so good and the fish was fresh! I loved the sweet sauce that was added to the snow cone roll. After about 20 mins, the chef, who's name is Yaser, started asking me what my favorite fish is and why I like it. I told him Albacore and he instantly makes me some concoction with ponzu sauce which was fire. He then asked me if I like salmon and I told him yes and he makes me a seared salmon roll with orange sauce and pepper. By this time I'm stuffed but enjoying this experience. He made going to a sushi restaurant interesting again like when I first tried sushi. We start talking about Japan and he ask me if I ever had salmon skin. I tell him absolutely not and that when I bake salmon I usually take the skin off. He then tells me that I HAVE to try a salmon skin handroll so I figured I should just go with it. My mind was blown!! I actually like salmon skin lol. It was so good! Overall, I had an amazing experience at Niko Niko and Chef Yaser. I left him a generous tip for the experience and he changed the way I will forever dine at a sushi bar now. When we were eventually seated at the requested table, she placed the menus down abruptly and did not hand one to me directly, instead leaving it at the end of the table. The interaction came across as unnecessarily rude and, frankly, not in line with the level of service I would expect from a hostess. That said, I want to note that the rest of our experience was positive. Our server was friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service throughout our meal. The food itself was also very good (I would not recommend the orange chicken though) and something I would return for.
