    Alaska roll

I'm not a big sushi person, but this place was worth the visit. They were very accommodating for our large party of about 8-10 people. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We ate here around 1:45pm on a Saturday and there was nobody here.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] That might tell you something about the food that it's average. I don't know sushi that well but the food was delicious to me. We ordered all you can eat and my favorites were the baked salmon and Alaska salmon rolls. We also ordered edamame which could have been evenly salted better. The servers were young ladies and they were kind but seemed new to the food industry. They passed out dishes just to one side of the table and we had to pass them down to the rest of our group ourselves. It appeared lazy. We asked them to pass it out and they obliged. I might prefer another sushi place for flavor but you can almost guarantee you will get a table here and not have to wait that long. Baked salmon roll: 4/5 Alaska salmon roll: 4/5 Philly tempura roll: 4.5/5 Edamame: 3.5/5 Miso soup: 4/5

We came here on a Google search, and then looked on Yelp and the reviews seemed average. So why not. 1-the food, sushi was great, it definitely hit the spot, it was fresh, and abundant.. I would recommend the food! 2-the service, the service was okay. The girls attending us were kind and friendly but mistakes were made and when notified about the mistakes they were apologetic/sincere and said they would correct it and it wasn't corrected. They also brought us different items we didn't order which truly wasn't a big deal they didn't charge us extra but they also didn't bring out the items we did order. 3-[[HIGHLIGHT]]ambiance, it was pleasant, I enjoyed it, I loved that it wasn't loud music blaring.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 4-dessert, I loved the shaved ice.. i love that it's an option.

Jessica Roll - the inside tasted like butterfish, and was super tasty!

Ambiance [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decor is cute but it's giving rundown Chinashop vibes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The baseboards look like they mop with dirty water once a month. I could actually smell the water while we were eating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The nicest tables are reserved --for what seems like only where staff eat on break.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The sushi bar is far from most of the seating but seems okay.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The kitchen had leaking water for half of my meal before it got mopped.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is Chinese writing on the walls, which is kind of cute if it was a Chinese place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Some of the top flags are okay. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The TV playing dining channel really confused my stomach during the meal. Watching someone make other foods while sushi is right in front of me felt like they missed the point of sushi.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The sushi is the art. Service With cafeteria style service and plates, at least the prices are reasonable ($23 for 3 rolls and it was shareable). The staff were kind, but I was confused if I could ask one server questions or the other. I wanted to be sure I was asking the right person but then I was obvious half way thru that they were all helping each other as one big area. Food The rolls looked pretty good and tasted great too, but the sauce was overpowering. Was it to hide something? I ended up in pain all night due to gassiness, burping like a college tailgating frat boy and couldn't lie down until 3 am after dinner at 7:30 pm. With that said, I'll add my photos and you can decide if you want to risk yourself for cheap sushi. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I'm never eating at a place with dirty baseboards again![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Volcano sushi roll looked fire!

Food was questionable. We were a large party. My friend ordered the chicken teriyaki which she did not eat because the meat was not as fresh. There was mixed reviews on the sushi. I ordered the tempura vegetarian roll and added jalapeño and cream cheese. The rolls were very large and had to take various bites to eat one roll. The service was great.. the waitresses were very attentive. 4 of my coworkers had the AYCE - all you can eat sushi. No salad available but they did have the shaved ice dessert. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restroom was clean and the tables and restaurant as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I probably would not return unless my friends pick this place but I don't think the majority of us would return.

So, of course, I look on Yelp and came across Nko Niko sushi, which is regarded as one of the best sushi spots in Redlands. I actually went as far as double checking on reddit and the votes were definitely in! This place seemed legit so I had to try it. It's located in a shopping plaza so there is plenty of parking. There are several restaurants in the area, while Niko Niko is tucked away near the water fountains out front. As I arrived, they quickly sat me at the bar area and my typical rainbow roll and I tried their snow cone roll. The rolls were so good and the fish was fresh! I loved the sweet sauce that was added to the snow cone roll. After about 20 mins, the chef, who's name is Yaser, started asking me what my favorite fish is and why I like it. I told him Albacore and he instantly makes me some concoction with ponzu sauce which was fire. He then asked me if I like salmon and I told him yes and he makes me a seared salmon roll with orange sauce and pepper. By this time I'm stuffed but enjoying this experience. He made going to a sushi restaurant interesting again like when I first tried sushi. We start talking about Japan and he ask me if I ever had salmon skin. I tell him absolutely not and that when I bake salmon I usually take the skin off. He then tells me that I HAVE to try a salmon skin handroll so I figured I should just go with it. My mind was blown!! I actually like salmon skin lol. It was so good! Overall, I had an amazing experience at Niko Niko and Chef Yaser. I left him a generous tip for the experience and he changed the way I will forever dine at a sushi bar now. If you're in the area, please stop at Niko for some fresh tasty sushi and an excellent sushi experience with sushi chef's that know what they're doing. OOOOO 5 out of 5 Afros

I sensed something exciting was going to happen -- but relying entirely on word of mouth. Flash-forward to early 2026, where readers of the local weekly paper named this the Best Sushi of Redlands. I was so excited, and as my visit last week demonstrates -- things have only improved. KYO SUSHI was packed at 5PM on a Tuesday. Not only slammed, but standing room only. I don't know what happened but I'm so happy for them. Two subtle changes have happened and I'm all for them. A LOCAL NEWS channel sharing dreadful stories on the TV has been swapped for hi-def reels of lovely Asian spots, making our escape from the crazy world we live in complete. As an extra touch, we are now treated to soothing jazz, which helps in a room with so many happy customers. A special shout out to Sia, who greets regulars like family and will help you get exactly what you need. Hi to Wendy and the new young lady, all keeping a close eye on customer happiness. I believe KYO is on the brink of having outgrown this location, but a lease is likely keeping them there for a while. It's a shame they can't move next door into the old Von's location -- lol -- because what a place that would be. Enough room in their to farm the fish. Pro Tip -- try the Megan Fox roll!

The roll presentation was very good, and visually the food looked great. The plates came out clean, colorful, and nicely arranged. Flavor-wise though, the rolls were fairly bland. The house mayo tasted like regular mayo, which isn't necessarily bad, but I guess I was expecting something with a little more going on, maybe closer to a spicy mayo or some kind of signature sauce. We also ordered a Philly roll, but were brought the Philly "Pro" instead. The Pro is deep fried, which I wasn't expecting, and I took a bite without realizing how hot it was and almost burned my mouth. I did mention that "Philly roll" and "Philly Pro" are close enough in name that I could see wrong orders happening pretty easily. Service was direct and decent. Nothing bad, just more to-the-point than warm or memorable. I'd probably give this place another shot, because it seemed like we may have gotten caught in a rush all at once. Not terrible by any means, and the presentation was definitely a strong point, but it wasn't quite the standout experience I was expecting.

The dine-in location is kinda speakeasy-esque, located down a spiral staircase and behind the sliding door mural. There is also a much more visible touchpad ordering system for orders to-go. The dine-in seating is also all counter seating, wrapped around in a U configuration where you can see the food prepared. My friend ordered tuna sashimi and miso soup while I got scallop and salmon skin cut rolls. The staff were nice and it was neat seeing everything prepared right in front of us. I also enjoyed seeing the omakase that the couple next to us had ordered. The space feels pretty underground (because it is), with small windows coverings that I think lend to the ambience. It is a bit tricky to find because it appears closed from the outside, so maybe better signage to slide the door open would be helpful. I'd be interested to try the special rolls that are to-go only. They looked amazing as they were being packed!
