We've tried pretty much everything here. From hibachi with four people to hibachi with twenty people in a private room. Sushi at the sushi bar to sushi and entrees in the main dining room. Kyoto offers several of dining experiences and they do them all well. The decor is dark and quite beautiful. They do a nice job incorporating a Japanese theme throughout. We like to sit at the sushi bar but the main seating area is also very nice. The main seating area is separated from the hibachi area and sushi bar so it is a little bit quieter as the hibachi area can get a little rowdy (in a good way). The sushi bar is along the back wall. We prefer to eat there as no matter how often we eat sushi, it is still amazing to watch the beautiful food they create. They have a good but not overwhelmingly large selection of sushi and we've been very happy with everything we've tried there. The Rock 'n Roll and Christmas Tree are our favorites. On this last trip the sushi chef treated us to a gorgeous small plate of tuna. It was delicious and if it were on the menu I would order it every time. I wholeheartedly recommend heading to Kyoto, especially if you have diners with you that don't do sushi, there are so many choices. Went here to celebrate a friends birthday. They currently do not take reservations, but you can do a "Call Ahead" the day of. I called in the morning, had a party of 10 for 6PM- No problem, everything was set and we were seated when we arrived. Did the Hibachi- VERY quick service! Each course back to back. Drinks/Salad/Soup, Hibachi. THE NOODLES ARE AMAZING! (You get a choice of noodles or rice), NOODLE WERE WHERE IT WAS AT! Super fun experience. The Hibachi Master made it very interactive. On graduation day, me and my family went to Kyoto Japanese Restaurant for my graduation celebration and once we got there, not that many people were there which was good for me, but however our time there was pretty debatable, the staff was very nice and the food was very good, however, the wait was super longer than expected and the fire wasn't as interesting as Fuji Grill was and the process was alright at best! And my dad ordered the steak hibachi, it was great! But however, I do not like the fried cheesecake at all, it just has a funny aftertaste to it, but overall, I think the place was ok! I've been here a bunch of times and only just now realized I've never reviewed this nice restaurant! My husband and I decided one fine evening that we wanted to go out and I let him pick out where we went. I was so happy to hear him suggest Kyoto because I was majorly craving sushi. We opted out of the hibachi this particular night, but let me say that I've had it from here before and it's a really fun show! We were seated by the hostess and were quickly greeted by our waitress. She was quick bringing out our food and drinks, too. I ordered the eel avocado sushi along with a spicy tuna hand roll while my husband got a salmon bento box. We both loved our food, which was fresh and tasty. We didn't get dessert this time, but I've had their mochi before and it's fantastic. After a year of forgetting to check out Kyoto, I finally made it! I stopped at Kyoto for dinner on Saturday night and was super excited to see what this place had to offer. The inside is massive and you have the option to either be seated at a regular table or sit around the hibachi bar (We chose a regular table). The menu here is large and pretty standard for the kind of place it is. You can chose from many different sushi rolls, hibachi meals, or even get a delicious bento box (which is exactly what i did). My bento box included miso soup, a salad with ranch dressing, white rice, chicken teriyaki, gyoza, and I substituted a California roll for a sweet potato roll. Surprisingly, this was the first time in my life I ever ordered a bento box and it's definitely not going to be the last time. Miso Soup- Standard miso soup, A+ taste though. Ranch Salad- It's a salad, what can I really say? It was good though. White Rice- IT'S RICE, OF COURSE IT WAS GOOD. Chicken Teriyaki- Very flavourful, tender chicken strips that were definitely delicious. Gyoza- These fried little treats were filled with flavour and amazing, almost wish I ordered some as an appetizer as well! Sweet Potato Roll- A+ Sweet Potato Roll wrapped neatly and full of delicious sweet potato flavour. I've been here for hibachi a few times. You have the option to sit at a regular table (no chef cooking in front of you) or at the bar (chef puts on a show, cooks in front of you). I usually choose the table option because it's cheaper and I'm usually not with a big group when I go here. I've done the bar option a few times -- from groups as small as 3 people to as big as about 10 people. Each time I've gone we've had a pretty engaging, funny chef who is great with the crowd. I remember the only time we had a chef who seemed a bit off (as in like crabby, with an attitude) was a few years ago on my birthday but we had a super nice waitress who accommodated us when he did my friend's order wrong and was giving her an attitude when she asked to get the extra egg that she asked for earlier. They also give you fried ice cream for your birthday if you tell them and will sing "Happy Birthday" to you. The best bang for your buck is the hibachi lunch special, which is $10-$15 on Monday-Saturday from 11:30am until 3pm. It's a few pages into the menu book, so keep going through the menu book even after you see the first hibachi section on the first page. The photo I've uploaded in this review was $14 before tax and tip. I ordered a steak hibachi lunch special, which comes with fried rice, steak (cooked however you want it, I choose medium well) and fresh mixed vegetables. This is usually what I end up ordering but I've also had the mixed ones before (like steak + shrimp, chicken + shrimp, etc.). Usually service is pretty quick for me especially if I sit at a table and the waitress or waiter will check on me every now and then. Some people love hibachi. I don't think I'm one. The entertainment of watching the chef make a flaming onion and him tossing food in your mouth is fun BUT the cooking concerns me. Beef, seafood and chicken are cooked very quickly and all on the same surface. I always worry about my chicken being cooked enough, and it's definitely not a place to go if you have food allergies. With that being said, all of the things I've mentioned are personal preferences and not a reflection of Kyoto. Kyoto is a nice restaurant. Went to Kyoto for Restaurant week during lunch. At 1:30pm on a Monday, there was only one other party in the restaurant so service was very quick despite our large party. The waitress was very patient as she watched us decide between the lunch specials on their usual menu or the Restaurant week deal. We all ultimately decided on trying out Restaurant Week since why not? Half the party went with the sushi entree option while the other half picked hibachi with various meats. I ordered the calamari starter, salad, and two special rolls (Sweetie and Christmas Tree). Tons of options to choose from and conveniently located off Niagara Falls Boulevard with plenty of parking. -- The food was great! BUT... -- Food was pretty good! Had no issues with our food, enjoyed Maki Combo and Teriyaki chicken with Miso Soup. Food was flavorful and tasty, myself and my partner were simply looking for a dining experience with food which we enjoyed to bring friends later on in the coming year. Unfortunately the reviews for this restaurant had a few outliers stating staff had been asking for tips and if not received they would mistreat or otherwise label you as an unpopular customer by the staffing there. -- The issue we had -- I honestly hoped the negative ratings for this place were untrue but after visiting and eating in, we had a waitress who had simply seated us, asked for drinks and our food option for the night. Nothing out of place or rude just simple. The waitress never introduced us to herself, nor welcomed us in, the treatment was simply "Hi, what do you want, ok, bye". Which was the feeling we both had at that point rather than a very expressive waiter/waitress that we would somewhat expect? But wasn't required. Needless to say her behavior was not bad, however with the lack of effort or additional input from her we decided a TIP was not needed or really warranted. Hence we signed our bill without the TIP. Once the waitress saw this she proceeded to stop at the table, stare at us both and exclaim "What? No TIP? I mean.." and proceeded to sigh. Of course being directly approached about the issue I felt somewhat surprised by the request, considering she again hadn't introduced herself, hadn't welcomed us in, and the behavior she displayed was as if she had not wanted to handle our order as it stood. Of course feeling bad for her we decided to add the TIP anyway for the order which was something around 20% of a 60$ bill. I hate to think that her mentality is to expect tips without any effort of empathy for customers in the workplace. I have worked myself in the food sector but, overall the only negative issue we had was this waitresses demanding for money, rather than giving us the wow factor which would have easily earned her the TIP anyway. read more

Been a while since I've been to Hibachi and honestly thought it would be underwhelming, but actually enjoyed the experience at this franchise. We came with a larger group and a few smaller kids (6-11 years old) and everyone was entertained and had a great time. The prices can feel pretty high for what you get, but the food was tasty and the entertainment of the chef cooking makes up for it. I had the chicken/shrimp with fried rice and vegetables combo (23). The shrimp ended up being a little overcooked on the hibachi and everything had a pretty distinctly salty soy-y flavor, I'd ease up just a tad on the salt since the soy sauce already has a fair amount of it, but otherwise the vegetables were fresh and the fried rice was delicious. I do wish there was an option to combine the fried rice+noodles, rather than having to pick one - but I guess you can't always have it all (and who knows, maybe if you ask they will oblige). Service was fast and efficient. Plates were always cleared out and our bill came very timely so we were in-out in about an hour, which was also a plus. I recommend Kyoto if you're looking for a hibachi experience. read more

Dropped in on my way home from Buffalo. Service was fine, but I had to ask for my drink a second time, and getting my check took an extra visit as well. I don't know what brand of plum wine they serve, but it has just the right amount of spiciness and sweetness. Unfortunately the surprise in my scallop surprise roll was a mystery veggie not mentioned in the description. Maybe onion? I have a cold, so I couldn't quite taste it but I sure felt it. My toe actually looks Japanese sometimes. It's a medical condition, it's called "Kyo Toe." The guys here have a medical condition, it's called being clinically insane! But in a good way. This is one of the most fun and crazy restaurants I've been to. They're very good at partying and making sure everyone has a good time. There are several reasons I can't give it a 5 star rating. The food is probably worth about a 4, for starters. The prices are insanely high. And this isn't actual Japanese food, or Japense culture. It's basically invented for middle class and rich people who don't understand real Asian foods. These aren't my words, but the words transcribed of a Japanese guy that gave me the low down on Kyoto specifically, as well as many other similar restaurants. Still, it's fun. So much fun in fact, that they squirt alcohol right down the throats (and all over the clothes) of all the rich suburbanites, and that's probably why they love it so much. I felt totally out of place here, but hey. It was an experience. I'd also like to say that the person who invited me here was a very special friend, and it makes me sad to this day that this was essentially the last time I ever saw her. This place is pretty consistent in its quality and menu . I enjoy coming in and having sushi. The fish is always fresh and plated nicely. Service depends on if they're busy or not. Unfortunately if you come in during peak hours service can be rushed and subpar. I recommend coming on a week day and really enjoy yourself. The kids always have a good time. I decided to go to this place for restaurant week (10/11) but apparently there is no restaurant week for Friday and Saturday. Waitress told us it was only monday to thursday and sunday. We were a little disappointed but we were there already. The hibachi guy was nice but he didn't do as much as what others was doing at the other station. Disappointed with that. Our food was okay. Most of us ordered the streak and chicken but i ordered chicken and shrimp. The chicken was really dry and barely taste like anything. My shrimp had a weird taste to it as well. I go to Kyoto annually to celebrate my friend's birthday. It's always a fun time getting hibachi, the chefs are entertaining and will get your group engaged. The prices are also fair for the amount of food you get. They also have a full bar that offers an array of beautiful drinks, including a flaming one. There's a lot on the menu and the quality of the food is pretty good but I'm docking stars for a few reasons: 1. They're not good at accommodating allergies and are actually rude about it. I heard a women at our table tell the waitress ahead of time about her shell fish allergy but they threw the shrimp appetizer onto her plate anyway. When she asked for a new dish to be prepared separately in the kitchen, the waitress started scolding her and said that she would have to pay for 2 meals. Not only a bad experience for that woman, but it also interrupted the great time our party of 6 was having. 2. Compared the the rest of the restaurant, the bathrooms need some maintenance. The toilet paper holder was half missing in the woman's bathroom and it just didn't seem that clean. 3. They no longer take reservations, just "call aheads" so our group had to wait at the bar with about 15 other people until we got our table over a half hour later. 4. Told our chef that it was our friends birthday (the one we come every year to celebrate) and she didn't get the "Happy birthday" song and cake like everyone else. :( Not sure if we'll come back next year, but I'll leave that up to her. read more

I've been to Kyoto for many birthday celebrations, sushi lunches and group dinners. I never choose the restaurant for myself, but I always seem to end up there a few times each year for one reason or another. I enjoy their food, but there are definitely better sushi/hibachi restaurants in Buffalo. Their specialty sushi rolls aren't super innovative. I tend to prefer sushi menus that have some unique options. That being said, the sushi is always fresh and satisfying! My favorite thing to order is the Rainbow Roll. It's always very good. My main complaint about Kyoto is the service. It could definitely use improvement. I've gone to Kyoto for hibachi dinner several times and I've never had good service. They always seem to be understaffed and stressed during dinner time on the weekends. During my most recent visit, my group sat down for a hibachi dinner on a Saturday night. We saw our server maybe twice. We had to ask for refills, drinks and sauces multiple times. It wasn't her fault because she seemed very busy! I just wonder why they don't schedule a few extra people to work during their busy hours. The hibachi dinners ARE fun, especially with a large group. The chefs are always very enthusiastic and entertaining. They interact with the patrons and never fail to make everybody laugh. You can tell that they enjoy their jobs! The host greeted us promptly as we walked in and brought us to a nearby table which I appreciate as I am disabled. While reviewing the Menu I notice Prices have went up, which isn't irregular with inflation and the economy. I ordered the Lunch Box Special and asked if I could substitute the white rice for fried rice for an up charge, the server said yes. My bf ordered the Steak Hibachi lunch. Both meals came out fast and were good but not very hot. His meal was large and while mine was a good size too I know they use to serve two pieces of salmon with my special. I was also given the white rice and fried rice. That is not substituting for an up charge.I was charged full price for the fried rice. I wouldn't have ordered the fried rice if I knew I was going to receive both and the fried rice be full price. Not until we received the check were we a little confused and upset. First, the itemized copy was stapled under the credit card slip that they keep. When he told me the total and went to tip I was confused as it was $50 on the signed copy under the $50 it said pretip amount. Yet on the itemized receipt it showed they already added an 18% tip. We have both bartender and served for 10 years, I have never seen added gratuity for a 2 top that isn't a buffet. If that's a new thing they are doing ok but, you need to let the guests know and it should not be hidden along with saying pre-tip amount when it was already added on.
