Today I ordered to go the hibachi chicken and fried rice and once again Kumo did not disappoint. Fresh and hot. What I really like about the Hibachi chicken is there's no salty taste from too much soy sauce. It's literally just right and the chicken is cooked perfectly. Not chewy at all. The vegetables that came with chicken were fresh and firm. No sogginess at all. The fried rice was super good as well. Hot and fresh. Just enough egg and onions to give it that extra bit of texture and flavor. The online order service through door dash was super easy and user friendly. I've rarely been made so uncomfortable as a patron in a restaurant. Although the interior is beautiful and comfortable, the staff are not skilled in hospitality. I asked for a table for one, and asked if I might sit at the sushi bar. Two different hostesses led me to two separate tables, arguing with each other (in Mandarin Chinese) about where I should go. My food was plopped in front of me so hard, the garnish fell off. Flavor of food was good; the sushi was fresh, and the lunch specials were very reasonable. If they tell you 45 minutes your still wait more than 30 minutes if picking up. Go to Fuji or better yet Tao in OP. You'll save time even if it's a further drive. After being seated, it took 30 min to get water and place our order which resulted in not receiving our meals until an hour and ten minutes after arriving. The server frequently disappeared, and I had to get up more than once to ask the hostess for things like condiments and the check. The food was decent. The restaurant is small, and it seemed like the side with the booths received most of the servers' attention. If you're seated on the window side, the service felt noticeably less attentive. Waited in the smallest space where no customer service was offered until 10 minutes of waiting to get to the cashier that was on the phone 90% of the time to pay and get my order. Then some regular was running his mouth telling me I was rude and couldn't back up his mouthy words. Finally after an hour I left without my order. My wife went back to get our order. Waited another half hour to get our order. So why doesn't the person taking order just say hour to hour and half to get take out. Customer service was terrible and food was mediocre. This is one of those places I already want to come back to even while I'm still there, finishing my meal. There are so many things on the menu that I would like to try. The service is not bad. It's a bit hectic sometimes, but I also experienced friendliness and appreciation. I like their food and how it's presented, and that's what matters. The Christmas Roll consisted of spicy salmon and spicy tuna, and was topped with torched scallops and special sauce. It actually had too bland of a taste for what it was expecting, not really spicy. As a vegetarian, this place was underwhelming. I ordered the Yakisoba and the portion size was decent. However, the taste was mediocre even though I requested extra spicy. You could order two rolls a piece and get outta here under $35.00. We each had miso soup, two rolls and an appetizer, as well as a glass of wine and beer and our bill was around $40.00. We got spicy tuna and salmon and the spicy salmon/avocado app, which was delicious!! The rolls come out super fast, dinners not so much as I witnessed the people on both sides of us. My husband and I drove in from Buffalo to try this spot. Very blubber space. Brick walled, dark and cozy. We had two apps- yellowtail with ponzu and jalepeno, and the Naruto Roll. Everything was very fresh and tasted delightful. My friend mentioned the eel pieces were crispy on her previous visit, ours were not, but they were still delectable. The Volcano was delicious but hard to share amongst people, so it might be a roll to order for one person. The staff was friendly and efficient. Super disappointed. I've eaten at Kumo several times before, and it's fine. We ordered 5 rolls for take out. Regular rolls, no speciality. Our order was placed @6:00 and were told it would take about 45 min to an hour. My husband and I left our house at 7:00 and arrived to Kumo around 7:10. We went to the counter, paid, (total $37) and waited. And waited. And waited some more, as the line was growing larger behind us. We waited for an additional hour bringing it to 8:10. The same people who arrived at the same time as us were also waiting. I asked the host for a refund and she continued to ignore me. I asked her three times and she finally said she would check on my order. She came out of the kitchen 20 minutes later with our order. Clearly they forgot and that's fine! I would have been happy with the refund and been on my way to get something else to eat. Ultimately we waited 2.5 hours for 5 average sushi rolls which were thrown together. We weren't supposed to eat out again, but then we found ourselves at Kumo Japanese Cuisine and had no other choice but to eat here. This restaurant is pretty similar to most other Japanese style restaurants, being both nice and welcoming. The server we had was pretty friendly throughout our stay and the menu was fairly large offering all different types of sushi options along with various meat entrees and even some Chinese food options. I ended up ordering a miso soup, a chicken teriyaki roll, and a sweet potato roll. How was the food? Well, here's what I thought. Miso Soup- pretty basic miso soup, but definitely not very much tofu in it. At first I thought it was just broth. Chicken Teriyaki Roll- I enjoyed these and couldn't even really tell there was caviar inside of it. The chicken was crispy and the rolls were huge. Sweet potato roll- pretty standard sweet potato roll. Good size, good taste, good roll. Overall, I wasn't blown away by anything Kumo offered, but all the food was tasty, very filling, and I left a satisfied customer. read more

TL;DR - Would we go back? Very unlikely. Here's why. This one is pretty simple. With a little limited menu, and a generally pleasant aesthetic, you would expect a focus on quality. And while the food is good, it only barely rates it's pricing. You leave feeling like you got what you came for, and nothing more. The real failure here is in the service. Our server was terse and rude, like she was having a fight with someone and had to stop in the middle to bring our (tap only) water or take our orders, from a menu in which she said they didn't have our first six choices -- she never explained why, and there was only one other active table at peak dinner hour, so I'm not sure if the menu is just inaccurate or there was a supply issue. Frankly, I was afraid to ask because stalked the whole place looking like she was going to kill someone, and we just wanted to have a quiet meal and leave as quickly as possible. Our experience from end to end was about 45 minutes of being uncomfortable, finding something they still served, having roughly adequate food, then paying and leaving as quickly as possible. Could it have been an off night? Possibly. But it wasn't the kind of experience that makes you ever want to take the chance again with your time and money. read more

My favorite place in the world for sushi! I get the same thing every time - rainbow roll - and am never disappointed. Others in my party have experienced the Spider-Man, Angry Dragon and tempura dishes on our many visits. I'll need to try something new next time. I always pair with a wonderful Pinot noir that is always served at the perfect temperature. Servers are always very considerate. The combinations are great for the lunches and or dinners. I go from all of them. Chicken steak and shrimp. I chose a different one each visit. Had a great dinner at a Kumo the other night. A friend had been encouraging me to go and I finally made it out. We started with a "sake" that was really just a sweet red plum wine. It was a little too sweet for my taste but drinkable. Will try something else next time. We got the "sweet potato loves crab" appetizer and it was delicious. A slice of fried sweet potato topped with kani (crab) salad and seaweed salad and then avocado slices and sauces. Very good and highly recommended. We tried the cheaper sushi options for our first visit but will try the fancy rolls next time. We ordered: spicy tuna, spicy crab, spicy mango shrimp, and dragon rolls (eel + avocado). All the spicy rolls were chopped meat salads rolled up in rice and seaweed. They were all quite decent and tasty. The spicy crab was the real kani salad used in the sweet potato loves crab appetizer. The dragon roll was quite good - but we are both bbq eel lovers. We were also given a nice green salad with ginger dressing that we hadn't ordered. It was lovely and the dressing was very tasty. The restaurant is small, busy, and intimate but we were able to get a table at 6 on a Saturday with a short wait. The service was quite good and the tables neatly arranged and decorated. Will return to try more rolls in the future -- they certainly have an interesting and large list of the fancy rolls to pick from. Love this place and it's close proximity to my house! Not the most vegan friendly but my favorite are the cucumber roll and the sweet potato roll!
