On our way back to SF after a short getaway in Walnut Creek, our appetite for Hawaiian cuisine and ordinary ramen brought me and my partner to this small spot in Martinez. Small location and very unassuming, the morning server was kind as he brought us our ramen and BBQ chicken plate. I should note, we waited no more than five minutes, which was far sooner than we thought we would get our food. The ramen: The broth was delicious, the chicken was hearty, and even though I requested the extra noodles and was far overstuffed at the end of our meal, I was still slightly disappointed that I finished my bowl too quickly and left nothing to savor! A solid 4/5. The BBQ chicken plate (unpictured): My girlfriend received 5-6 LARGE pieces of tender, charred and deliciously marinated chicken served on a bed of extra macaroni salad. The serving was so generous that even though we shared, there was still so much cutlet to enjoy! So now not only did we eat more than our fill, we now had leftovers for our shifts the following day. For the measly $30-35 or so that I paid for the meal for 2, I was so shocked that everything came out so fast, so delicious, and served with kindness. In and out the door in 45 minutes! I just had a good dinner until one mistake just ruined it. The worker ended up charging me for someone else's check which was double my bill then instead of refunding me the difference, he moved super fast and refunded the whole amount instead of the difference. Then he told me to tap my card again. I wasn't about to be charged another $60 so I told him no, I'm not doing that. This created a whole scene that other customers eating there got involved making it look like I was the bad person. He ended up just telling me that it was on them. Which all could've been avoided IF he had listened to my solution. I don't care about the 'free' meal at this point. It was so embarrassing! Word of advice, if you're ringing up a check, make sure you ring up the correct bill! Other than that, the food was good. One of the best Hawaiian food in the area. I do recommend the Aloha plate. Yall are sleeping on the Karaage. I think Kyoto lowkey is the hidden gem of Martinez. The Ramen is good. It and a lot of things on the menu are extremely affordable. The beauty of this is that for everything you order Kyoto gives you a huge amount. I love when places do this. You know we love in interesting times. Good stuff! We were in the area for an event and stopped by for a quick lunch. The restaurant was quite full for a weekend lunch, but we were able to find a table. Lots of people were picking up to-go orders too. We ordered two bowls of Ramen, one black garlic, and one Tonkatsu. $14.99 each. Both were really good, the soup base was not super dense, traditional Japanese style, but a little lighter like Hawaiian style. I think I actually prefer that it's not as greasy! They had enough toppings to make it interesting such as crunchy seaweed and half a soft boiled egg that was cooked just perfectly. It seemed a little bit light on the noodles so I would highly recommend ordering extra noodles. Noodles could be a little more chewy, but that's nitpicking. Be super careful with the bowls as the bases are narrow and easily tipped over. Our little one leaned forward and dumped a bunch of soup on his shirt and shorts. The restaurant staff were very gracious and cleaned it up quickly. Hawaiian pork Katsu for $12.99 was a fantastic value, one plate piled super high. It came with white rice and a small scoop of delicious Mac salad and a tiny bit of sautéed cabbage. Katsu breading was quite crunchy and robust. Really got to glue your dentures in tightly for this one! Katsu sauce, complemented it well. Next time we might get more Mac salad. Ambiance is casual and staff were helpful and friendly. This has become our new favorite local spot for takeout! It's always been a little difficult to find good Hawaiian food so we're happy to have stumbled across this one. We've tried the bbq chicken bowl, the tonkatsu ramen, Katsu chicken curry, and the spam musubi. The Katsu chicken curry has been our favorite so far. The chicken was super crispy while the curry had a nice rich flavor and wasn't too spicy (we ordered the no spice level). On our first trip when ordering the ramen we ordered mild and even that had some serious kick for us so be mindful of what you ask for. The spam musubi came with 2 pieces per order which was good to know. Overall the prices are very reasonable for the portions you receive. I really wanted to like this place based on the positive reviews but unfortunately I'm going to have to give one a hard pass. Portions in comparison to the price is great. You definitely get a hearty amount of food that will leave you enough to take home. Will I crave it afterwards? Maybe not. The chicken katsu was good - nice and crispy. This was the best dish out of what was ordered. The curry sauce had an aftertaste that I couldn't get past. The loco moco was sad. This was the last dish to come out (chicken katsu first, spam musubi (not pictured) and then the loco moco). First of all, where is the gravy?! I've never had one that was lightly painted with gravy before but I guess there's a first for everything. Disappointed, I asked for more gravy for the loco moco and was charged an extra $2! Spam musubi was good. Taro boba was okay - could've gone without it. Service - the reason this review is 2 and not 3 stars. I considered giving this place another try but after dining here and seeing how inattentive the servers were, I am not enticed to return. The egg was not runny, but still yellow. The quality is more fast food style, but still good. If you're into extremely "good ramen" like a perfectly runny egg and extremely tender pork, and a very rich broth, this place isn't for you. (Like the places that charge 25.00+ per bowl). The lady came and said she can do kalua pork and katsu just not the Lau Lau. That worked for me because it's just as good. We put in our order and starter with the lumpia, this came out pretty quick. Moment of truth the food took about 10 minutes which tells me they were freshly cooking it. Man our eyes were big because this place was definitely stingy with their portions. Both plates were filled to the top and had so much meat. So extra stars for this. Food was hot to the touch. I definitely gotta say, everything was very good and tasty. I saw someone next to us that got a poke bowl with shrimp and I told myself I have to come here again and get that. Ugh so many options and glad I finally tried this spot. My family and I came to Kyoto Ramen Hawaiian BBQ for dinner on 06/07/2024 after checking out fridges at the Home Depot in the same shopping center. This tiny eatery is in the space previously occupied by 88 Noodle House, next to Yo Sushi. The place was busy when we walked in at 6:15pm. We were greeted by the lone staffer, who was busy putting together multiple to-go orders. Seating was a free-for-all, and we ended up grabbing the table nearest to the kitchen. The interior was clean, and the decor was not noteworthy. Their menu features a wide array of ramen, Hawaiian BBQ, poke, curry dishes, etc. I ordered five items - BBQ Chicken and Beef Plate, Seafood Mix Plate, Teriyaki Chicken Mini Plate, Veggie Tempura, and Grilled Whole Squid. The total, with tax and tip, was just south of $70. Not too bad in today's economy. We got our food in about 15 minutes. The veggie tempura and the grilled whole squid were nicely done. The tempura was crunchy, and all the veggies were in big pieces. The grilled whole squid was served with a sweet and sour sauce and was surprisingly tender. As for the plates, they all came with rice (1 scoop for the mini and 2 for the regular), macaroni salad, and veggies. The BBQ chicken and beef plate I had was quite good. Both the chicken and beef were moist, tender, and flavorful. My family seemed to like the appetizers and their plates as well. Service we received was very good. The lone staffer was friendly and efficient. Although she was busy the entire time, she came by to check on us on several occasions. Overall, I thought this place was solid. I came here for some Ramen a couple weekends ago and was pleasantly surprised. This place is a small... I had a Mom and pop type style. The serving sizes were filling and the food was delicious. I like the idea of having the menu underneath the clear placemat on the table, so it's easy to order. The reason for the deduction is on my last order, I ordered online for a family meal for pick up the next day. A guy called me and asked if i can pay first and gave him my credit card. Each plate came with steamed broccoli and cabbage with two scoops of rice and one scoop of macaroni. The salmon was cut in a long, thick piece. It was tasty. The mini plate chicken came with several thin slices which were delicious. I think it was 4 slices. We were both satisfied. Note, there's no bento box. Broth for the ramen was a flavorful combo of a (pork) tonkotsu base and garlic flavors with depth. You can choose the spice level too and I went with medium. Ramen came with 2 slices pork, about 8 cloves of blackened garlic confit, bamboo shoots, some corn, mung bean sprouts, scallions, and a slice of dried seaweed. Next time I would add an egg for more protein ($1 extra). Grilled squid was not marinated, yet came with a sweet chili and hoisin dipping sauce and not overcooked. I would come again to try their other menu items. Indoor seating is about 5 tables of 4 each. My friends and I wanted to try a new place and this one was convenient for a few of us to meet. I have been to this plaza before, but never ate at this establishment. The service was alright, nothing extraordinary, though the server didn't clearly answered my friend's question about their boba tea options, so he just ordered whatever. Thai Boba Tea: For $5, this is what I expected. No adjustments to sugar or ice levels allowed. The boba tasted like it was microwaved or came from a bag. The texture was not squishy like I expect from Boba, and it was a bit "tough", similar to what happens if you refrigerate freshly cooked boba. The Thai tea itself was okay. Black Garlic Ramen: Honestly, I was not amused by this at all. It was bland and I didn't really perceive the black garlic taste. The spiciness was alright, but I honestly couldn't finish my meal. I ate the pork chashu and the other toppings, but I left half my bowl unfinished. One of my friends said his ramen was also bland and lacking salt. Overall, my meal specifically was not up to par.
