As soon as I walked in, the waitress greeted me, seated me quickly, brought me water and a menu, and gave me a few minutes to look things over. The service was friendly and efficient from the start. I ordered an appetizer and an entrée, and everything came out at the perfect pace. The appetizer arrived first, and about two minutes later my ramen came out, which I appreciated. For my appetizer, I got the potato croquette, and it was fantastic. If you're a fan of deep-fried potatoes with a crispy and flaky exterior and with a soft interior, then you'll enjoy this! For my main course, I ordered the spicy tonkotsu ramen. It definitely had some heat, but it wasn't overwhelmingly spicy. The broth was flavorful, and I enjoyed every bite. Pricey for ramen and the spice wasn't really spicy. We got the Hakata ~$19 and Spicy Tonkatsu ~$20 with extra spicy sauce. The ramen itself was good -- the best was the fermented bamboo, and it was pretty with the cabbage and the corn. Otherwise not a lot of flavor and very small portions. My husband and I were on a little road trip and stopped in to get a quick bite. 30 minutes before closing, we were quickly seated and given menus. I hate to write this update, but the last two times have not been great experiences. I'll start with the service, and one of the times, I arrived and stood by the door while no one so much as bothered to come out of the kitchen to seat me. When I walked further inside, I apparently startled the servers and they seemed annoyed that I walked in. They then proceeded to ignore myself and my friend while we sat and waited to order. As for the ramen. The broth is still very decent, but the pork was dry and thin and not the greatest (both times). So, between the bad tonkotsu and lack of service, I will be making it a point to head back to Oakland for my fix. read more

I went here on a weekday around 11:30am/12pm, it wasn't busy at all, but the waiter was a bit slow to get us seated. There was nothing good nor terrible about the service other than the fact that there was no sense of urgency (to take our order or bring the bill, which was only an issue because I was on a timed lunch break). He mostly was in the kitchen/the back and not often in the seating area or counter to see people come in so we had to wait for him to show back up to the front to flag him down. I'll be frank - the food was a bit disappointing. Aside from personal preference in the type of noodle that was used, I felt like the portion size was misleading and the quality of food was not good. I shared with haya bite, which is chasu in a steam bun; I was really surprised to see how actually small it was in person. In my opinion, not worth the $7-8. Not only did the size throw me off, but the bun was drenched in so much oil (the outside of the bun and on the inside as well) that I could not taste anything else but that. For the ramen, I ordered the Black Garlic Ramen. The noodles were okay, I prefer a thicker cut of ramen noodles, and this place only serves one type so there wasn't anything I could really do about that. I thought the best part of the dish was the corn, and then the broth; which was just okay too, nothing special. The meat was really rough; the purple cabbage and the bamboo shoot tasted old. The soft boiled egg was fine, I ate half of it with the broth. I'm used to ramen places providing the whole sheet of nori/seaweed, but this place ripped it in half and stuck it to the side of my bowl. I opted out on the beansprouts because I don't like them, but it wouldn't have made a difference because my coworker who left the beansprouts in his, literally only got a tiny pinch of beansprouts in his bowl! For the prices of the ramen bowls being around $20 each, skimping out on the portion sizes and putting poor quality ingredients in the dish this badly is ridiculous. I wonder how this place has a decently high rating when there are written reviews are saying similar things to me? Well, I remembered that on my table, there was a small, old, and faded out sign with an incentive if you rated this restaurant. Whether the good reviews are actually real or not, I'd still recommend to save your money as it seems really inconsistent. read more

The gentleman taking orders was a little slow to attend to guests, but he was doing the best he could. Onto the worst part. The food. The seaweed salad wasn't bad. The chicken karaage was more like Taiwanese popcorn chicken. Not bad but, not what I was expecting at all. My partner ordered the Tonkotsu ramen and the broth had some flavor. Not a lot ... just some. And although I don't eat the eggs, it wasn't soft boiled at all. Practically hard boiled. I ordered the Spicy Tonkotsu ramen and it was horrible. I do prefer the thin noodles and it was prepared on the softer side which was fine. But the broth was absolutely FLAVORLESS. It was if they boiled water and added chili oil and tossed in some noodles and toppings. The char shu, though thickly sliced, was overly cooked. A solid ramen spot! Ordered the purple sweet potato tempura as an appetizer and came out piping hot. I love anything potato so this was a heavy hitter. The ramen broth was tasty and the noodles were cooked to a perfect texture. The few things I did not enjoy much (or more so just caught me off guard) was the fact that the chasu was on the drier side. I've never experienced dry chasu in my ramen before. It was not tender at all and had a very tough, chewy texture to it. I also never seen corn in my ramen before.. that was something new for me! I didn't mind since I love corn but just an observation lol. Service was a little lackluster. No one checked in on us besides when it was time to take our order and to pay. Had an amazing dinner at Haya Ramen. I love the location as it's near other local restaurants. I would highly recommend visiting this shopping center when you're hungry! There's lots of great options to choose from. Back to Haya, the service was prompt and the server was very kind and friendly. She was attentive to our needs and allowed us enough time to order, eat and made time to also clean in between. The menu has great appetizers to choose from, and the ramen options are not much, however, you are free to customize them however you want. It's clearly listed on the menu all the sides and extras you can add, of course for an additional cost. I decided to order the spicy tonkatsu ramen and it was indeed spicy and flavorful! It came with seaweed, bamboo, corn, purple cabbage, egg, bean sprouts, house chili paste and protein of your choice. I exchanged the pork for tofu for mine and it was delicious! One thing I did notice is that the noodles were very thin, almost spaghetti like. I am not used to these type of noodles in a traditional ramen bowl, so it was something new for me to experience. The establishment was very clean, had cute decor and had both indoor and outdoor seating. There's also plenty of parking outside, but if you come during a lunch or dinner rush, it might be harder to find close parking, so plan accordingly! I do plan on visiting again when I'm in the area. We were greeted and seated right away by a friendly waitress. We ordered the Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen and Black Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen. Our food came out in a timely manner. These two bowls of the ramen that we got were the smallest bowls that we ever had compared to other ramen restaurants. The two pieces of cha shu that we got in each bowl of ramen were mostly fat and flavorless. There weren't much toppings. The only thing that we liked was that the broth wasn't too salty. We definitely had better ramen with bigger portions for the same price. If you're a big eater, you will need to order two bowls of ramen to fill you up. My husband has been craving ramen for a few weeks now, so we finally came for lunch. My baby has a dairy intolerance, so unfortunately, I can't have any dairy right now. I ordered the Black Garlic Ramen, but then thought, it's best that I ask if there's any dairy. Unfortunately, there's butter in all of their broths! Doh! They have a vegan broth though, so I had to have that. The staff was accommodating and let me have the vegan broth, but with all of the regular toppings. Unfortunately, they told me it would be a wait for my dish. I was OK with this, but unfortunately, they brought out my husband's ramen promptly. He was fully finished with his ramen for about 5 minutes before my ramen came out. We were both OK to wait, so I would have appreciated them bringing out our dishes at the same time. It was very strange to have to wait for him to eat, and then for him to have to wait for me to eat. It didn't make any sense. I think his dish was pretty much ready to go. It only needed to be dished up and the topping put in, so I think they could have just prepared his to be ready at the same time as mine. Anyway, I could live with this inconvenience, but my broth wasn't very good. It was very flavorless. I had to add a ton of soy sauce in it and some of the chili flakes to give it any flavor. It was super disappointing. And surprisingly, I've had out-of-this-world, delicious vegan ramen before so I know it can be done (shout out to LA's Ramen Hood from "Top Chef" winner Ilan Hall which uses sunflower seed broth). I think this version was like veggie broth? I dunno, but it lacked depth and flavor. it was very watery and bland unfortunately. The broth is the best part about ramen! Thankfully, the toppings were good. I particularly liked the bamboo shoots which had a ton of flavor. I didn't like the skinny, straight noodles. I mean, they were fine, but they're not my favorite type of noodle. Anyway, the $19 bowl (actually more expensive than the regular bowls!! what the....!) of flavorless broth really left me disappointed. I'm not saying I wouldn't come again, but I certainly wouldn't get the vegan broth. But thankfully, this avoiding dairy thing is temporary for me, so hopefully, I don't need to be ordering that again anyhow. read more

To put it short, I'd come back. Excuse the picture we couldn't wait to eat. Came into the store when it wasn't busy. We've got two servers that were on top of everything. Food came out within a reasonable time. The place is cute with low background music and a bunch of themed decorations. The chicken was super crispy. The Spring rolls were crispy with enough veggies. Loved the mix of vinegar and sweet and sour in the dipping sauce. The ramen could do with a little more soup and maybe some chewier noodles.
