Hidden inside Oak Grove Plaza, Ozora Sushi is a true gem for sushi lovers. One of the things that keeps me coming back is that they occasionally offer bluefin tuna and, if you're lucky, toro sashimi. The only catch is that both can sell out quickly, so it pays to arrive early. The Jaw Roll, which features bluefin tuna, is one of my absolute favorites. "Delicious" does not do it justice. Even on days when the bluefin is unavailable, there is no need to worry because the menu is filled with excellent options. I have yet to try a roll here that disappointed me. The garlic edamame is another standout appetizer, though fair warning: you'll be protected from vampires for at least a day afterward. It is packed with garlic and absolutely worth it. For dessert, the fried banana with vanilla ice cream is the perfect way to end the meal. The restaurant has plenty of tables, though a short wait is common during busy times. In all my visits, I have never waited more than about ten minutes. Because Ozora is so popular, it can get a little lively and noisy during peak hours, but never to the point where I have had trouble carrying on a conversation with the people dining with me. To me, the buzz is simply a sign that this place has built a loyal following. Overall, Ozora Sushi is one of those reliable neighborhood spots that consistently delivers great food, friendly service, and a dining experience that keeps me coming back. read more

I've visited this restaurant a few times in the past and was recently in the area, so I decided to order sushi to-go. Unfortunately, this experience was very disappointing. As soon I walked in I was greeted immediately this review has nothing to do with service but overall the how the food is made in this restaurant. The restaurant is cute and nicely decorated but the food doesn't match the restaurant reviews. I ordered the JD Roll, Volcano Roll, Godzilla Roll, chicken karaage, and calamari. The JD Roll lacked sauce, and the quality of the fish was mediocre. The Volcano Roll was about a 4/10 in my opinion. I requested no eel due to my boyfriend's allergy, but overall the roll was still lacking flavor. As for the appetizers, both the chicken karaage and calamari seemed over-fried, bland, and tasted as though the frying oil needed to be changed. I was especially disappointed because I had been looking forward to the meal, and the restaurant's reviews are generally very positive. Located on the same shipping center as the Trader Joe's but near The Wells Fargo Bank. Plenty of parking available. Arrived on a weekday around 4PM there was one other person inside. Decided to eat in. Sat in a booth which was quite spacious for the group. Immediately upon being seated Misp soup was served, with waters and lemon. The menu is pretty expansive and took a minute to figure out what to order. Tried the Lady Gaga roll, Philly roll, some other rolls I can't recall and the spicy pork with rice which also comes with a small house salad. The rolls were good. The spicy pork dish was basically fatty bacon cut up into small pieces presented on a sizzling plate - not a fan. The outside may look small but inside is very spacious with mix of tables and wooden booths. The vibe when you walk in is very casual yet mixed with fine dining in a way. Each table had this really intricate tableware which reminds me of the grater they use for wasabi for some reason lol. There was also a small lamp on the table which I thought was a nice touch. Not that the lights overall is super dark but it just sets a nice tone and ambiance of fine dining. Service was very attentative and patient. They were also quick with refills and taking our dishes away when we were done. What we ordered: Gourmet Sushi & Sashimi ($31.95) - It came with 7 nigiri, 3 pieces of tuna sashimi, 3 pieces of salmon sashimi and 6 giant California Rolls. The highlight would have to be the yellowtail nigiri, salmon nigiri and the salmon sashimi. They both melt like butter. Only downside was that the fish portion were a bit small. I do wish the cut of the fish was bigger. Seafood Udon ($18.95) - Hot thick noodle in vegetable broth with some shellfish like shrimp, clam, along with with fish, and squid to quell the cold draft. Parents were meh on it as they said while the soup was hot, there was not a lot of seafood in the dish itself and wished there was more. There was some leftovers but it was mainly noodles. Sora Roll ($16.95) - This roll had shrimp tempura and crab on the inside and tuna, salmon, yellowtail on top. There was a lot of pieces and they were actually very good. Crispy Roll ($14.95) - a deef fried roll with tuna, salmin, yellowtail and avocado. Lots of texture from crunchy and creamy to sweet and saucey, Size is pretty big for 1 person and it is very packed and filling. We would come here again to try their bento boxes next time. read more

Ozora is our go to Japanese restaurant in Concord off of Oak Grove and Treat blvd. They been consistently tasty and have excellent service. Parking is plentiful and has nearby Peet's coffee, Trader's Joe, Baskin Robbin's ice cream, and gas stations. The only thing I have to mention that this restaurant gets very busy/crowded on Friday and Saturday nights. No reservations. But the staff are pretty good seating you and work hard in getting and serving your food. The sushi is fresh and good fuller sized portions. The bento box meals has a wide selection of items to choose from. The teriyaki steak is tender. The tempura is crispy and fresh! Grilled Saba is my favorite. My wife mentioned that the bento box tends to be smaller portions when it is To-Go compared to what we would get in the restaurant. The hostess was very accommodating for our large party (7). She suggested a booth table when it was free up -- otherwise it would be a long wait for tables to be free up and put together. The menu was pretty extensive. A lot of choices beside your usual tempura, and teriyakis. The Gindara Miso sea bass was prepared to perfection -- fish was flaky and seasoned with a sweet sauce. Ozora has been my favorite sushi restaurant in the east bay for many years. Their fish is fresh and their rolls are more fish-forward and less dependent on sauces for flavor like other EB spots. All the workers and line cooks are friendly here! Here's a bunch of my favorite rolls: Hanabi 2: super savory, tuna is amazing Ichiban: lovely Smokey flavors Aloha and JD: both poke-style sweet with a slight kick, great tuna rolls Fantastic monkfish and uni. I'll be blunt. I was excited given the beautiful presentation. But a majority of the contents in each roll was mostly "filling" with rice and avocado rather than with actual fish. Of the 9 pieces, only 3 of them had soft shell crab. Service was immaculate and attentive. Good stuff. read more

I have such mixed reviews about this place. The interior was nice and spacious. There was no wait on a Friday night and the service was fine. As for the food, we ordered three rolls: 1. Over the rainbow - Some of the fish had bad texture, lacked depth of flavor, cashew nuts as a topping was not good. Do not recommend. 2. Chuck Norris - Very tasty but a lot of the pieces ONLY had avocado on the inside when it was supposed to come with other stuff (see photo). Also they only put the tobiko on the one center piece of the roll... 3. Sweet Surrender - The best of the three. Delicious but again only tobiko on one piece. On the upside, the rolls were huge! I ordered 2 bento boxes and a rainbow roll through doordash for lunch and added express to make sure the food tastes as fresh as possible. The bento boxes come with rice, salad, miso, and 2 entrees and were $18 each. For the 1st bento box, I got chicken teriyaki and mixed tempura. The tempura looked fine but tasted really burnt. It tastes like they don't really change the oil or they're using burnt oil. The chicken tasted average, nothing special. The tempura sauce looked very oily before I even dipped anything into it. The 2nd bento, my wife got chicken katsu and salmon teriyaki. The salmon was well done and there were only 8 flimsy katsu pieces. It's almost like they flattened some chicken as much as possible, slapped some batter on it, and fried it. It was paper thin. Also the katsu sauce also was more like a jelly sauce in terms of consistency. The miso also tasted more like chicken broth and was very dark in color, even after stirring all the contents up. For the rainbow roll, it had 8 tiny pieces for $18. The fish pieces were small and the crab mix filling was way too creamy. The roll itself tasted just like mayo, avocado, and rice tbh. Can't believe it was $18 for that and also $18 for below average bento. I'm not sure how this place has high reviews honestly. My favorite Sushi spot in Contra Costa County! I recently moved back to the Bay Area from SoCal and had to find a new sushi spot. I eat ALOT of Maguro Nigiri and the quality of fish used is important to me. After testing out a few places, Ozora has quickly become my go to. I drive from Antioch to Walnut Creek just to grab my usual order. They are friendly, sushi quality is top notch and there is plenty of parking. They are located in the Trader Joe's plaza on Treat/Oak Grove. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a solid sushi place. But beware, they do get busy! Especially on the weekends. read more

First time here last night and I was very impressed with the quality of the fish! Salmon sashimi was pretty close to that nice smooth buttery taste/texture of the salmon in Hawaii (not there but it was as close as I've gotten to it at a restaurant in the area) The Chuck Norris and sweet surrender were really good too! In fact good enough for me to get another order of each. I forgot the name of the 3rd roll that I ordered but it was really good too. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients here!
