I really wanted to love this place. I'm all for supporting small businesses, but unfortunately, it missed the mark for our entire party of four. The service was friendly, but everything else fell flat. One friend even had something floating in her water (we just asked for a new cup, no big deal), but the food itself was the real disappointment. We ordered a few rolls, a nigiri dinner, and a teriyaki dinner for my sushi-averse husband. All the rolls had an overly acidic flavor, almost like there was too much rice vinegar in the rice, and nothing stood out enough to make us want to return. The nigiri plate looked like a good value, but our friend agreed that it was just mediocre. Overall, the experience left a lot to be desired, and we likely wouldn't come back.

RIPPED OFF and WON'T BE GOING BACK! The food was okay (nothing out of the ordinary). The Service was good (had my order taken in a timely manner and the food came out timely as well). What was NOT okay was the STICKER SHOCK associated with the bill. I ordered the Beef Teriyaki from the Entree Menu, which you can see in the picture was SUPPOSED TO BE $17.95 (this was also the price listed on the in restaurant menu. HOWEVER the bill arrived and lo and behold the price I was charged was $19.95. When I brought the discrepancy to the attention of the cashier I was told "well our prices have gone up". When I commented that the menu should be changed there was no reply.

Got food to go but have been to this place before. They are always so nice and have had the same owner and chef for 28 years. We got a bento box with chicken katsu and shrimp/broccoli tempura, a dragon roll and Wendy roll. Food was great, love how simple the rolls are and they are not masked with loads of sauces on top. The tempura is always light and crispy. The chicken katsu sauce is delicious. We'll definitely continue coming here.

I was hopeful that this spot would be good as it's local. I was deeply disappointed with what came out. The ambiance is old and the table felt sticky. The service was mediocre at best. The food was just not good. The rice felt like it was sitting there and there was almost no flavor to the fish. I won't be making my way back.

This place is like going home. I haven't been there for years. It was always my daughter's favorite place when she was young. It was her birthday dinner place. Today it was my birthday lunch place. The chicken katsu was not too dry like some places and the tempura was great. The staff is always friendly and even after so much time the remembered us.

This place is a local establishment well known for its consistent quality food and friendly service. My late mom loved eating here and we often got take out during the pandemic. I met a friend for lunch and Annie, the sweet owner, was there to give us a very warm welcome. We were seated to the right of the front door on a raised area which was a cozy place to be since a larger crowd was coming in shortly and it allowed us a quiet place to relax and catch up. We ordered the salmon teriyaki plate and unagi (eel) donburi. We also had two sushi rolls which were a chef's choice and they were absolutely amazing. I don't think these are on the menu but each piece came with a tiny thinly sliced piece of lemon on top. The lemon added a refreshing and new taste sensation for me. We each received a bowl of miso soup before our entree. Our lunches were beautiful and delicious and I enjoyed the fresh green salad and rice that accompanied my meal. I was happy to see that the tables are set far apart from each other so you feel comfortable and safe. They do a fabulous job of catering too as I have enjoyed several of their catered meals. Staff are all pleasant, conscientious and take great pride in the work they do. There is plenty of parking.

Locally owned favorite in Rohnert Park! Service is always friendly and attentive. Their tempura and sauce is honestly one of my favorite's not only in Sonoma county, but in the bay area. Lunch specials do not disappoint in portion or pricing. The only down fall I would say is that the food does take some time to come out, but the taste and freshness makes up for it. If you're in a rush I highly suggest ordering ahead of time. Shoutout to Annie! She is the heart and soul of Kyoto. Love her dearly! See you soon Kyoto!

My husband brought me home takeout- presentation was great but the sushi is not very good. It tasted more like sushi you would get at Oliver's or Whole Foods- just not very fresh. The ginger also tasted a little funky. My husband did like his food but doesn't eat sushi. I had the Dragon roll, sunset roll and rhonert park roll- maybe others would be good.

I first discovered this place about a dozen years or so ago and I really enjoyed it. Since then I moved away for about a decade and I could not remember the name of this restaurant. I moved back here about a year ago and I've been trying to figure out where to find this place again. I honestly wasn't sure if I had the right place until I got there. It is unfortunate that they choose not to serve people indoors now that it's permitted, especially since they don't have any outdoor dining available either. However this sushi is as good as I remember it. I especially like the crispy deep fried tempura in the Rohnert Park roll. Our take out came in a nice plastic platter and the miso soup came carefully wrapped in an extra layer of plastic wrap. They did forget to include wasabi, but we happened to have some anyway. After all these years I never forgot how much I liked the sushi here and I'm very happy to have made the effort to find this place again.

I'm in awe! My husband and I came here (apparently his first time) for this first time in YEARS and Annie looks me dead in the eyes and says "good to see you" with a big smile under her mask. I'm pretty sure it's been close to 5-6 years since I've been here and the last time I was a regular was when I was still in high school 11+ years ago. This place has changed a lot over the years, but it will always be one of my favorite Japanese restaurants to go to in Rohnert Park. We used to have to wait for a table, but now it seems the pandemic has made it less desirable for dine-in (or maybe it was like that pre-pandemic too, I'm not sure). No wait, still great tasting food, and A+ customer service. The chicken teriyaki is sweet with a little bit of smokey/char flavor and comes with miso soup, a side of rice, and a salad with delicious dressing (my guess is a sweet sesame dressing). Today I also tried Annie's Signature Roll (I was wanting smokey haha), it has smoked salmon, avocado, cucumber, spicy tuna, and a spicy mayo dipping sauce.

Food and service is always, consistently top notch. Supporting local also is a plus. Quick, delicious food every time. After we finished, my husband looked at me and said, "why isn't this place our go to?" Well it will be now.

Yesterday I was selling some stuff on B FB Marketplace yesterday and had stuffed the cash into my sweatshirt pocket. We turned around and drove back and the serving I walked through the door- without me saying a word- two staff members immediately handed me the money and said you dropped this. Dust buildup and visible dust bunnies hanging from light fixtures were an immediate red flag. The sushi chefs appeared unshaven, with more facial hair than is typically expected in that role, which added to my unease. The bar surface was sticky, and the curtain separating the kitchen when considered alongside the other observations created an uncomfortable "what are they concealing?" impression. While the staff was friendly and service was adequate, the overall environment suggested lapses in cleanliness and upkeep. I also found it notable that there were no Asian chefs present, and this was the first sushi establishment I've visited without clean shaven sushi chefs, which is generally standard practice and, in this context, felt like another warning sign.At least the women's bathroom was clean. Out of an abundance of caution, I'm heading home to take a Pin-Rid deworming pill. FYI: in my younger days I worked as an HVAC/R service Tech and I seen a lot of kitchens and fronts . My Spidy senses are on point. Forewarned; * Traditional practice: In Japanese culinary culture, especially sushi, cleanliness and precision are part of the craft. Chefs are usually clean-shaven or have very neatly trimmed facial hair to minimize any hygiene risk and to project discipline and professionalism. * Food-safety optics: Sushi is raw food, so appearance matters more than in many other kitchens. Even when local health codes allow facial hair, best practice is either clean-shaven or using proper beard restraints. Many high-end sushi bars expect clean-shaven chefs as an unspoken standard. * Cultural expectation: In traditional omakase or classically trained settings, a clean-shaven look signals respect for the customer and the ingredients. It's not a written rule everywhere, but it's deeply ingrained in the culture. * Modern / non-traditional places: Some contemporary or fusion spots relax this standard, but they typically compensate with very visible sanitation practices (gloves, beard nets, immaculate counters). When those aren't present, it understandably raises concern.

I asked another waiter what happened to Carlos? His reply "Carlos went home". Okay, if he went home then who is our waiter? I thought, "shouldn't he tell us that he was leaving and a different waiter would be taking care of our table?" Twenty minutes later I see Carlos returning to our table I asked him "what happened, they said you went home?". He made no apology and said "i had to put out a fire because the credit card machine wasn't working". I understand that technical problems happen, but no apology and smart aleck comments are not acceptable. If he was preoccupied with the credit card machine then another waiter should have covered our needs, not lying to us in saying our waiter went home!! Finally we asked for boxes for our left overs, he hands us 3 boxes and leaves. At the table next to us, their waiter boxed the left overs and placed them in a bag for them. This is what I would expect at a high end restaurant. So I yell across the room at Carlos "Can I get a bag for our left overs?" Again Carlos's smart aleck response was "Sure I can bring 1,2 or 3" he yells across the room. In conclusion we loved the food and atmosphere of the restaurant, but one bad apple can ruin the entire experience.
