This restaurant has been on my radar for a long time. Since I don't visit Wynwood very often, I had not made it there until yesterday on my way to the Adrienne Arsht Center. First, I would like to thank the hostesses for being so accommodating. When I tried to make a reservation via Open Table, they were booked for the time we needed in order to make it to the show on time. After communicating with Katy several times, she was finally able to reserve for us at the communal table. Upon arriving, we requested if instead we could sit at a regular table. They were able to accommodate as long as we vacated the table by a certain time, which was not a problem since we were pressed for time. But we really appreciated them being helpful. Our server was also very nice. Everything we tried was very delicious. Especially the rice and the fried chicken. The only negative for me was the noise level. If I am having such a pricey dinner, I like a bit more quietness. Maybe I am just getting old. But regardless, if you want to enjoy some delicious food, this is an excellent choice. read more

What just happened right now!? I've experienced a slew of emotions leading up to my dining here tonight. I went from excitement when invited here after reading the reviews and perusing the menu to feelings of elation as the time neared for our arrival, rage when an unfortunate incident near the area almost prevented me from actually dining here, gratitude when the manager (Natalia) came to our rescue and promised that if we stayed we would have a good time. She was very patient and gracious and calmed me down. I really appreciated her high level of professionalism in which she handled the situation. Lastly, pure joy through dinner after finding that each and every dish that we tried, including drinks far surpassed our expectations. Not to mention the top notch service that we got from our server, Eddie. All of this combined with the great energy and ambiance added to our experience. As an added bonus and if things could not go any better, imagine my surprise when I go in the restroom and they have none other than Elemis hand soap and lotion and actual terry cloth towels to dry your hands. It was a very pampering experience. One you don't expect at a restaurant. The music was jamming in the bathroom too, lol! I could have stayed in there longer if it wasn't for the line outside, lol! In any event I tried the grilled octopus which was good with the exception of the suction cups still being visible. If I could offer a suggestion it would be to clean these off. It will make for a better presentation. I also had the ceviche which for my taste was a little too raw. Personally I like my ceviche a little more cooked by the marinade. Overall the flavor was good. My favorite dishes were the gyoza, the short rib and the Korean fried chicken. They were all cooked to perfection and very flavorful. I also tried the Thai rice which I didn't think I was going to like because the rice is wet and kinda soupy. But to my amazement it was absolutely delicious! In addition I tried their pink puppy cocktail drink which is like a lychee martini and even though I was disappointed that they didn't have an actual lychee in there, it was very tasty and didn't let me down. Overall I would say that my experience was amazing and I can't wait to go back and experience them again. Even though we didn't have a reservation and were seated right away, I agree with the rest of the yelpers, make a reservation if you plan on dining here. The avocado salad was to die for, with a light lemon and ginger dressing it was the perfect size and starter. The crispy tuna tartar is absolutely amazing!! The tuna was super fresh and the crispy rice was cooked to perfection. They have a variety of cocktails but can also make you anything from the bar. **BEWARE! They came to the table with a glass bottle of water and said "I brought you still but can also get you sparkling". It was presented to us as the glass bottle water was the free option, it was then discovered they charged $2/person for water! They do not offer tap/free water. read more

The cauliflower appetizer dish is amazing! That was the best appetizer I've had in a long time, and could have given this 5 Stars if I had wrapped up and gone home. But my next dish was the beef tartare. It was served on a completely burnt overly thick bread. It overpowered the dish. My husband and I decided to eat it without the rest of the bread, and it was delicious. My husband was actually wondering if that was the way that this was meant to be prepared and went and asked the kitchen, and they said that the Char was intentional. If the Char had been unintentional, this restaurant would have five stars easily. That was a disappointment, and a really bad call by the chef who designed the dish. I've been to KYU since their opening a few years back. I've brought mentors, friends and family any time we've been in Wynwood and wanted a special bite to eat. In the most recent stop, we were the first guests of the day, ready for lunch. My friend enjoyed the atmosphere and environment and we were ready for lunch. It was the first time the menu was drastically reduced as we could not tolerate spicy (other times, it was easily accommodated as most items were made on the stop). Unfortunately, we were advised that the sauce for the stone pot was pre-made and spicy - we had to skip on it. In the past, modifications were made so the food was more accessible to folks. In any case, we decided to go with a few sides to tide us over and then hit another food spot to round out our meal. With the booming foodie scene in Wynwood, I'll skip next time and find a new spot. The Baratta heirloom tomato salad is fresh and just the right kick of heat, the grouper with white bean amazing and the mahogany ribs that are glazed with fresh ginger strands are all a must have. Came here for happy hour excited to try it, as I had heard so many rave reviews about it. Unfortunately, I left feeling underwhelmed. First up were the soft shell crab buns... I wasn't a fan of these... I've had some delicious buns around miami, but these were forgettable. Next we tried the burrata which was good... Then we tried the fried rice. This was tasty, but I'm not sure it was worth the $22. The highlight of this meal was by far the dessert. That was actually AMAZING and I would possibly go back just to eat that again. It was a s'mores cake with a banana bourbon ice cream... sooo good! The service felt rushed as the waitress came by every 5 minutes to see what else we needed. This is the cutest little date night spot. I've been here twice now and I don't know what one of the people are saying they had to have a 3 month wait. We just walked in and were seated after a half hour. Granted we went on a weekday, it wasn't a 3 month wait. The food is so good! We asked our server to tell us popular dishes/ most commonly ordered dishes and we were so very pleased! Not only is the presentation beautiful, but it really satisfies your taste buds. I've tried the best places living in San Francisco and New York and I can definitively say this is better than any other restaurant out there across the board in terms of overall experience. The chef and staff at kyu accomplished what they set out to do...amazing service, great ambiance, very reasonably priced and even if that were all bad, the food was the clear winner here. I have never had food speak to me the way these dishes did. Chefs Lewis & Sealey took my taste buds on a culinary adventure that spanned many continents, textures and depth levels. Hard to list my faves...krispy kale, cauliflower, hamachi, thai fried rice, pork mushroom dumplings stand out primarily because they made my everyday dishes pop with flavor and nuanced undertones that constantly surprised me. They triggered memories of favorite dishes and flavors from my travels both domestically and abroad. After reading more about the team at kyu it all makes sense. Chef Lewis/Sealey took the very best morsels from asian dishes - subtle balance of savory/sweet, soft/krisp, steamed/fried/sauteed. Mixed it with smoky grilled goodness, and finished off with phenomenal sauces for nearly every dish. We also had soft shell crab, Korean fried chicken, shishito peppers, halibut, wagyu brisket, creamy spinach, and holy shit that coconut cake...gah! Please make sure that you make a reservation as it will more than likely be at capacity. Street parking is the main option here and I'm sure they have valet but I didn't see it the day that I went. The roasted cauliflower was great. I enjoyed the porcini mushroom wrap, it was generous in portion and certainly flavourful. The coconut cake with the bird's nest/ice cream egg was sensational.
