The woman who works there was combatively rude. She was this way with the customers I saw her dealing with and very much so with me. I took my mother's shoes there to have them retreaded. The woman was impossible to ask anything of, and not because of any lanhuage barriers. I didn't have anywhere to else to get the shoes repaired, so I just dealt with it. I paid in advance for the shoe work. When I went to pick up the shoes on the day she's specified and insisted upon, she claimed she couldn't find them at first and blamed me. These shoes were originally purchased for about $300 and are good shoes. Mom put them on for the first time this morning since the work was done and the retreading broke away. Neither of us really wants to even go back to take issue with the woman because she's so hostile. So we're going to accept the loss and never go there again. read more

Don't Walk..Run AWAY!! Rip Off ! I would rate it less than one if it was possible‍ Rude Women!! I brought a pair of black blonde boots (expensive and all weather proof) the heels were very slightly scraped to the point that the wood was very slightly detached from the corner of the heel block. A simple job! I was told that they have to remove the heel for $30-35$. I said remove the heel (indicating that didn't make sense)... she insisted on the amount. I said fine. I was about to leave when she said I need to pay first. That was it for me specially since ratings weren't too good at all. I left and went to Ferguson's Shoe Repair 757(826-0216) 1086 W. Mercury Blvd. Price? Get this.. $0.0 wait time 15 min! Quality, honest & Professional! I wanted to spend some money there to show my appreciation so I bought shine polish. If I had to guess, the only reason Kyu is still in business is because they are the only shoe repair in Williamsburg VA. The other listed on internet is actually a shoe store! Searching for a leather repair place to fix my mom's pocketbook strap. Contacred this repair shop in Williamsburg. She told me it was $25 to fix strap. I handed her my debit card and she swiped it then threw my card down in my direction. I was extremely angry, but i kept it cool. I don't know if the lady had a bad day or not. Today i went to pick up the pocketbook. I stapled the receipt to the repair order invoice and she separated the receipt and tossed it down in my direction. She gave my mother's pocketbook. I enter the shoe repair with high expectation thinking I was going to get a good price and my shoe repaired. Well guess what , that did not happened. When I entered the establishment I was greeted and asked what I needed. I showed her my shoes and asked if the entire heel can be fixed. She stated yes. I asked again can you the entire heels. She stated "you walk on cement not able to fix that". I accepted that but I asked if she could please try. She replied yes. She told me a price, which I thought was not bad. I started a small conversation with her but nothing. She told me my shoes would be ready by Monday. Monday is finally here and I am anticipating my shoes would look great. Well, well, well to my surprise when she returned my shoes the only thing that was done was my heel. I asked her could you not do the entire heel, she looked at me and said "you walk on cement, no repair". Okay, I thought, "well could you have at least shine the shoes or perhaps buff it to make it al least look like you did something else to my shoes to show good customer services". Had my Birkenstocks resoled and charged $60 BEFORE the service, and when picking up I noticed the soles were counterfeit material and not authentic as promised and charged for. When questioned, the owners got very defensive and rude and yelled at me, and requested additional payment for redoing the soles with authentic material. I'm giving two stars because it was done within the time span given. That's it. We had called before our arrival and was told that the time frame (3 days) was okay and to bring the dress in. We brought it in on Thursday night and picked it up on Saturday morning. The dress was destroyed. The hem was completely uneven. The inner skirt and outer skirt were two different lengths. There were loose threads. She fixed the back strap and it was crooked and she left a pin in it! It wasn't even sewed properly onto the dress. The worst part was that she charged $100 for it. I wouldn't have minded if the job was done right - especially with that time frame. However, it was a shoddy job and I am extremely upset. read more

Alterations : Ok here is a recent review. ...August 2018. Obviously they have not changed their philosophy of taking care of the customer. I explained what I needed 3 times to ensure clarification. She said yes she would do it and then said nobecause she was not sure if she wanted to hand sew or use the machine. I offered to come in during the time she would be working on my small project. Her rejection of that idea really made me to think twice about leaving. When she decided that she would, she said $30 for all 3 pieces...$10 each and it will be ready by Friday. May I suggest for you to observe Master Cleaners on Richmond Rd on tips fir great customer service & success!!! They are fast, courteous, efficient and have been in Williamsburg for years. I opted not to use Kyu's services. I am attaching a picture so that you can see what I was requesting....please sew around the (open) edges because they are frayed from cutting. read more

I visited Kyu Tailoring and Shoe Repair, located on High Street, to have my Birkenstocks resoled. I was assured original Birkenstock material would be used. Unfortunately, upon receiving the shoes and further inspection at home, I discovered that a counterfeit material was used, despite being charged a high fee for the service and use of authentic material. The fee was charged at the time of ordering the service, before the actual delivery. This was the first sign of a dishonest business model. In addition, prices are not listed in the store, and are instead randomly given.  I returned to the shop to question the authenticity of the material, and was met with utmost unprofessionalism and the poorest customer service I have ever received from a small business owner. When I asked to have the shoes redone with authentic material, I was yelled by the store owner.  After an unpleasant exchange, they agreed to replace the soles with authentic Birk material, but asked me to pay extra. When I refused, as I had already paid a high fee for my original purchase, the owner yelled at me further and walked away. I took my shoes home, and did some online research on the  store and read they had received multiple negative reviews for poor customer service, poor service and dishonest business practices. read more

Have only tried them for shoe repair since they are the only place this side of Richmond Road that "does" shoe repair. Had high hopes -- but my wifes favorite pair of heels were mangled on a simple tip repair. I went back to the store to complain and course...they made it our fault. "Why didn't you examine the shoes when we gave them to you?". Sorry -- but they beat the crap out of a great pair of BCBG's and the first thing they implied was that it was our fault. I brought in a brand new blazer to get the sleeves taken down a half an inch. They ripped a hole in both sleeves and did not trim the lining. They also started to remove the buttons and button holes from the sleeves, realized that it would damage the fabric, and left it half finished. I was skeptical about this place because of the bad reviews, but its not like I had a lot of options here. Brought in a suit to test it out (kept my other in the trunk just in case it came out terrible). Woman spent no time with me, seemed like the thing was rushed. Sure enough my pants were hemmed at least 2 inches too long. To her credit she did try to redo them for free. But I had asked her to let it out a lot because I got a size too small for me.. There was plenty of fabric for her to work with and she didn't do enough to make the pants comfortable. End of the day I wanted a tailor that would care enough to take the time to explain things to me and not screw up a suit I paid good money for. OK....maybe time for a more current review on this place. I brought in a leather coat that I bought in Italy to shorten the sleeves. It was expensive and had sentimental value to me because of where and when it was purchased. I read the prior reviews AFTER I left it there and almost turned around to pick it up! The only reason I didn't.....I was not feeling well. I fearfully picked it up a few days later and....voila! I was greeted by a friendly face and it was a job well done.....phew!!! This woman was awful! I went in with a sheet from a shirt designer who is making my show outfit for me. On the sheet were the instructions for how to measure me including a diagram. This woman completely ignored the directions and me and only did the few diagram pictures. She refused to listen to me when I explained she needed to do the directions. They've been in business for the last 18+ years HOW? - I truly don't know. When there really wasn't anyone else nearby my family all went to her. I was told on multiple occasions that my pants I wanted tapered and hemmed, "looked fine to her". This "professional" also noted to my mother when she unfortunately kept gaining and losing weight (which caused her pantsuits not to fit properly) that my mama that,"you could stop wasting my time if you just stopped eating so much"....and then laughed. Her husband, the shoe "expert" seems to not want to do anything besides shine brand new shoes, I wanted new heels on a pair of English loafers......couldn't do it cause it was a custom heel. I ended up removing the heel myself and having a carpenter friend carve the heel and took the heels and shoes to a guy in Richmond to finish the job....you as the customer seem to be just a burden to these people's lives. And since I would hate to be a burden on anyone..... I moved my tailoring to Classic Tailor by Schmidt's Florist and NY Deli. Mrs. Anderson (though Chinese.....but the last name cracks me up) is a miracle. She has re-lined 3 tuxedo jackets, tailored at least a dozen suits to exactly what I wanted (but with her kind opinion in mind and followed), she can fit a shirt like no one else (forget MTM) and recently took my camel hair overcoat, added deep brown velvet cuffs (didn't have enough coat material to lengthen the sleeves so she said, " Ohhhhhh that would fix it and make it look real handsome for you) and a contrast color in the same velvet material and relined the entire interior of the overcoat in a Harris tweed. Grand total? She said,"it gonna be expensive...." but in the end after 2 1/2 weeks work - $165.56. This isn't meant to be and advertisement or anything, but years ago when Seal's had that fire.....I thought and even (as bad as it is) hoped it meant no more Kyu... Please I beg of you, don't go there - you're better off having your great aunt with Parkinson's and cataracts do it.... The job may even look better. read more

I went to this establishment to have some shoes repaired. When I walked in the door I immediately was taken aback by the state of the shop. Obviously this owner does not have pride in ownership as it was a complete dirty mess. I was then ignored for the first 5 minutes of standing there. Once she did acknowledge me I was treated rudely. I told her what I needed and when I went to try on my shoes so she could mark the strap, she went over and put on headphones and started listening to music. I decided this was not the place for me and left. There has to be a better place to trust one's shoes and clothing too. read more

My advice is to avoid this place. The Korean woman who runs the tailoring half of the store is as dumb as a post. And is she rude! I tried to explain to her that I needed a button on the inside pocket of a sport jacket for added security while traveling. She snapped at me, "What are you talking about?" I repeated in the simplest way that I could that I wanted a button closure on the pocket, you know, a button and a button hole? Simple, right? She snapped at me again. "What kind of button?" I said, "Any kind of button! What does it matter?" She glared at me and said nothing. That's when I knew that I was either dealing with a very stupid person or someone with a mental defect of some kind. I said, "Oh, just forget it" and walked out. Besides, after such a bad start who in their right mind would leave a garment with her? She'd undoubtedly do some damage to it. read more
