One of my go-to spots for late-night ahi and Korean BBQ plates! The service is always fast and friendly, and while the banchan selection is a little limited, everything is solid. I love the BBQ chicken, meat jun, kalbi, soondubu, and especially the spicy ahi. There's such a good variety of proteins to choose from, so you'll definitely leave happy and full. If you love masago, I highly recommend getting the spicy ahi. It's one of my favorites here! The restaurant itself is pretty small, intimate, and dark, but it's perfect for a quick and casual meal. We are extremely disappointed with our recent experience. We've been loyal customers and typically eat here twice a week whenever we're on assignment on the island in the last five years. We have also left two previous positive reviews because we've genuinely enjoyed the food and wanted to support this small business. Earlier this week, we ordered the bulgogi for our kids, but the meat was too chewy and tough making it inedible. Wanting to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt, we ordered the bulgogi again the following day and even requested it be cooked well done. Unfortunately, it had the same too chewy and tough texture, and again, could not be eaten. After feeding the kids something else, bathing them, and putting them to bed, I called the restaurant around 10:00 p.m., but they had already closed. I called the next day, and the owner (a lady with glasses) returned my call. Instead of listening to my concerns, she repeatedly interrupted me and spoke in a passive-aggressive, dismissive manner. I was on speakerphone with four other adults in the car, and everyone commented on how unhelpful and condescending the conversation felt. I explained that I wasn't calling simply to complain - I wanted to share feedback because we genuinely care about the restaurant and have supported it for a long time. I even mentioned that I had previously provided constructive feedback about the takeout bowls, which the restaurant later improved. Before I could finish, she cut me off and said, "We're not talking about the to-go bowls right now, are we? We're talking about your bulgogi." She insisted that if I wanted a refund, I needed to return to the restaurant in person, and that if something was wrong in the future, I should come back immediately so they could remake it. Unfortunately, that's simply not realistic for us. We're staying in a hotel with two young children, and the restaurant is about 40 minutes away. By the time we discovered the problem, got the kids settled, and called, making another round trip would have meant roughly 80 minutes of additional driving with tired, hungry children. I understand that mistakes happen, and I wasn't expecting perfection. What disappointed me most was how the concern was handled. This business does not value customer feedback and will never first listen respectfully, even from repeat customers who have consistently supported and recommended them. I always wanted to try this place, but it was always so crowded and we knew it was a happening place It just so happened we were in town early one day and decided that instead of a late breakfast , we would eat an early lunch instead. We stopped by and we were early so we beat the lunch crowd apparently....so happy! The menu is good size and there are quite a few choices, both Korean and seafood. After taking a look at the whole menu, we decided on the mandoo and meat jun combo, and the saba and house poke combo While we were waiting for our meal, banchan was brought out. There was pickled daikon, cabbage kim chee, and mac salad. All the of them were tasty. The saba and poke came out first...by like 10 minutes. It was a bummer because we were the only two people in the restaurant...so we didnt really eat at the same time. The saba was good. It was grilled and was a nice size fillet. The house poke was very good. You could tell that the tuna was fresh, and well tossed with the seasoning. The only bummer was that the rice was dried out and hard. With hot mackerel and fresh poke, I really wanted a helping of fresh rice to complement the seafood. The meat jun and mandoo plate did come out piping hot ten minutes later. The mandoo was fried crispy and too hot to eat so we started with the meat jun. The portion was smaller than expected, based on the price. The mandoo were good. They felt homemade as they were stuffed with meat and noodles...3 very large ones come with the combo. Again the rice was dried out and hard. Plating could have been done a little better...in fact it was a little odd. The combo was served on a three sectioned plate, which is great....but one section was left empty. So your plate looks like it is only 2/3rds full. Now for a $25.00 meal, while not cheap, I am not asking for more food. But wouldnt it make more sense to put rice in one section, and food in the other two so that the plate looks full? Psychologically, it felt like there was something missing from the plate... We were also a little disappointed with the service. There were two workers that we saw in the front of the house. They were nice, but we didn't see them much. Ordering and dropping off a check, I feel, doesnt really count as service. Based on current prices and the 'state of the world', I understand things cost more...dining out has become a true luxury...and sometimes a gamble...or at least feels like it My poke was definitely the highlight of the meal. However, since I was in the area, my partner and I decided to give it another shot...and now I'm hooked In fact, I went three times last month. Parking can be tricky too--keep an eye out for street parking or the small lot hidden in the back. It's walk-in only, no reservations. This is the spot for sashimi--always insanely fresh. Period. We also ordered the Kalbi and meat Jun which never miss. Tried the kimchi fried rice for the first time and it leaned pretty heavy on sesame oil--still good, just something to note. Been really wanting to try this place every time I visit and so glad I had the chance this time! Was craving some galbi and their galbi here is sooo good. The meat is incredibly high quality and the marinade is great. We ordered the galbi and poke combo plates, which came with a decent amount of both. Love going to Kyung's because you get to enjoy sashimi, kalbi, and meat jeon at the same time! We got the 24pc sashimi platter, kalbi + meat jeon plate, and the seafood soft tofu stew. They also give you banchan that comes with cabbage kimchi, onions, and macaroni salad. Sashimi portion was generous and each slice was thick. The sashimi platter comes with ahi, salmon, and hamachi. The salmon had a nice fat zebra-like marbling, which melts in your mouth! The seafood soft tofu stew had a lot of ingredients like mussels, shrimp, clams, and an egg. The BEST plate lunch I had in Hawaii! I saw some good recommendations and decided to Uber to this place which is a little way out from Waikiki. I am so happy I did! I got two plate lunches to try, one with salmon and Ahi poke and grill Hamachi, the other with Mandoo dumplings and Kalbi. The plate lunches came with rice, kimchi and Mac salad. Believe me when I say everything was absolutely, mind blowing delicious! The poke was so fresh and perfectly seasoned, with grains of salt that really enhanced the poke flavor. The grilled Hamachi was tender and delicious. The dumplings were fat and filled with meaty filling and the dipping sauce perfectly set off the flavor. And the kalbi was Well marinated and super tender! The sides were on point as well. I can't wait to come here on my next visit to Hawaii! P. S. We walked in at about 5p on a Sunday no reservations, party of 5 and was seated right away, restaurant was not busy, but a couple of tables had reserved signs on them. I can imagine it gets busy. Food is good, poke is fresh and tasty. I don't have anything bad to say about it. Service is fast and friendly. Parking is not the best, because there is not a dedicated parking lot. Got the meat jun / bbq chicken combo. For $24.95 we bought 3 plates 2 were the meatjun and raw fish. They were out of ahi so only had hamachi. The food was really good but was kind of dissapointing with side vegetables. The portion was sooo small for 3 people. We had to share the plate for our sides i asked the guy if they refill like other resturants and he said it would be $3 (nevermind) i feel like the plate wasnt worth $25 he also said the sides were only complementary. A pretty decent spot within walking distance from the Ala Moana area. We went during an off meal hour, and therefore we were the only table. The restaurant is not too large. Ban chan accompanies all entrees. We tried the sashimi platter as well as the poke/kalbi combo. The kalbi was surprisingly, very delicious and tender. The sashimi slices were generous though the tuna had a slight fishiness to it, though the other two types of fish were fine. This is my new favorite place for Korean food and poke. We ordered the fried salmon skin as an appetizer. Kalbi plate and a poke and BBQ chicken plate. The salmon skin was crispy and tasty, like a salmon potato chip. The kalbi had a good flavor and texture, it was nicely charred. The poke was fresh, firm and tasty. The chicken was tender and had nice grill marks. It came with a set of 3 banchan. You can order more for a small fee. Service was friendly and prompt. The food is excellent, I've been told they previously owned Keeaumoku seafood which is why the poke was so good. I'd say it was even better because it seems like the poke is mixed right before serving instead of sitting mixed in the display case all day. The only problem i can see is parking. We popped in at 3pm on a Wednesday and it was maybe half full, but it seems like they can get busy during peak hours and on the weekends. It's a small joint, so I recommend making reservations ahead of time. It does look like they have a flexible seating arrangement, so they CAN accommodate large groups if you have a reservation. We got 2 combo plates: 1. meat jun w/ Mama's special poke 2. galbi w/ spicy ahi poke Portions are on the larger side for O'ahu (in my opinion) as we ended up taking home about 40% of the meal. Honestly, everything was delicious and I'd recommend ordering all of the above if you can. The galbi wasn't overly sweet and the cuts of meat were generous. The meat jun wasn't overcooked or dry. The Mama's special poke comes with so much masago. The standout/surprise for me was the spicy ahi poke - they give you a package of seaweed on the side so you can make mini hand rolls. The texture was unique and enjoyable. All in all, you can't go wrong here. It seems like their menu can cater from small to large groups. Their Happy Hour deals run from 11am-7pm, but it only makes sense for larger parties or people who can drink a lot. We're from LA where the Korean food is top-notch and I would say this restaurant would compete with the ones in LA.
