At first, we got a little lost trying to get here but staff was very friendly and guided us where to go. It's down a hallway in between buildings and then past dukes and up the stairs. We just wanted a quick bite to eat so we shared the macadamia nut pancakes and a side of bacon. The sauce was perfectly sweetened and tasted so delicous. The bacon has crisp but not overly done. Pineapple mimosas super yummy and the perfect view
We had a lovely lunch at Hula Grill. It's a little tricky to find - it's upstairs from Duke's, and the area outside the entrance is being renovated. But the space and service are pleasant, with beautiful beach views from the patio. My grilled cajun mahi mahi tacos were fresh and tasty, with a nice slaw and sauce. My boyfriend's BLT croissant with spam and an egg was a hearty handheld, and also delicious. His came with a nice side of taro chips, and my side of tortilla chips and salsa were fine, but not necessary with the generously portioned tacos. And my Hula-Rita was festive and refreshing.
Walking into this restaurant, the view was amazing! We sat upstairs right in front of the ocean. We had brunch and ordered a breakfast burrito, omelettes, a cheeseburger and fries, pancakes, and an avocado toast. Everything we ordered was delicious! My son loved his juicy cheeseburger, the burrito had so much filling with eggs and meat, and the omelettes were soft and tasty. Service was quick and our waiter was great! I would definitely come back here and try other dishes next time.
We went in last week just for dessert! Place was busy but we were sat near the bar. Family got some drinks but my daughter and I were there just for the pie lol. It was very good and pretty big. I don't think it's as big as it used to be but it's big enough lol. Server was really nice, checked on us to see if we were ok without hovering. This is definitely a very touristy spot but I think it's worth going to if you're in the area.
Hula Grill is an awesome place for beachfront bites, great drinks and a lively setting. Located right on the Waikiki Beach, Hula Grill delivered on both its food and drinks. The Crab and Macadamia Nut Wontons were crunchy, creamy, and nutty; the KFC Wings brought bold flavor and serious crunch; and the Lobster Roll was fresh and generously filled. The drinks matched the food quality. The scenery was beautiful with a front row view of the Waikiki Beach. The local birds are noticeable around the dining area so stay alert and keep an eye on your plate. Incredible dining experience and earns a 4.7 stars.
They open at 7 and while lots of people were going to dukes below, hula grill was more quiet and more intimate at first! I got the strawberry mocha waffles were so good! I would definitely get them again if I find myself in Waikiki. Just the right amount of sweet and honey that no syrup is needed. My boyfriend got the two ka lei local eggs with spam and said it was really good. Also tried the tutus moonshine and I loved the presentation, it was really cute. In hawaii you for sure need to get a fun hawaiian drink. Mary was our server and she was really sweet and attentive.
Our final restaurant on the morning of our last day. It was sooo bittersweet but we went out with a bang going to Hula Grill!! The view was absolutely worth the wait and the service was efficient! I can definitely see why it gets high ratings. All of our dishes were delicious and fresh. The portion size is just right but I wouldn't mind a bit more fries. The fried mushrooms were amazingly paired with its sauce, 10/10 recommend. If you're looking for a spot with beautiful views, cute decor, great service and food, definitely give it a try.
We had dinner at Hula Grill. We couldn't get a reservation online and we were staying at the Outrigger so I walked in to see if we could get a table later in the night. They took my number and said yes about five or five thirty. At five, our table was ready. It was by the bar and I guess there's a separate bar menu you can get but we didn't get that. You can walk in anytime and eat at the bar tables. I didn't know that either. We shared the mahi mahi and the salad. Both were really tasty. We didn't get the view tables because they were "saved" for reservations. However they were empty our entire meal.
I came here specifically because I had seen in a review that someone was able to get a drink inside a hollowed-out pineapple, and my friend visiting the island was looking for a drink in a pineapple. I should have called ahead of time to find out, but I didn't, and that's on me, but they don't do drinks in pineapples any more (if they ever really did). We ended up getting a piece of hula pie to share with the table instead. It was delicious as always, plenty to share among three people, and I love that it's served on its own special plate with special sporks that say hula pie on them. It was pretty sunny and hot that day and there are no umbrellas on the patio, so good thing I was wearing sunscreen or I'd fry. Service was prompt although as it got busier it got a little slower. Delicious for hula pie but if your heart is set on a drink in a pineapple, you cannot get it here.
We ended up coming here three times during our trip because of the famous Hula Pie! On our first visit, we had a reservation and stayed for dinner. We tried the steak and the corn chowder. I ordered my steak medium well, but part of it could've been cooked a little more to my liking. Even so, it still tasted really good. Our server was also excellent and very friendly throughout the meal. For our other two visits, we sat in the open bar area since we didn't want to wait for a table. Without a reservation, the wait can easily be over an hour to an hour and a half. The nice thing is that you can still order from the full menu while sitting at the bar. The only downside was that there wasn't much airflow in that area, so it got pretty warm while we were sitting there. The Hula Pie is definitely a must-try! It's not overly sweet and doesn't melt too quickly either. You really can't go wrong ordering it.
Mahalo for Pi day!!!! And for managing to stay open despite closing half the restaurant (ocean view seating was exposed to very high winds)! Duke's had the longest line, so while in that line, one of the crew ran up the stairs, returning in a few minutes to say, "they are clearing a table right now for us"! Our group of 7 had a great table in the "lobby" across the restrooms and host reception, with a view of the Blue Note entrance. The happy hour menu "Early Bites" has regular priced items as well as appetizers which are only available during happy hour, which ends at six pm. Beverages are at happy hour prices. Everyone was sure to indulge in a famous mac nut topped Hula Pie, and some got to enjoy the mint chocolate chip Hula Pie (limited edition, specially made for St Paddy's) - and for only $3.14, that was a no brainer!). One had the tempura/kalbi taco combo, two shared a lobster roll, another two shared the burger, and of course the men had their own meal and finished them off with no problem! We were so hungry though, that I only got a peek at two of the dishes. (The lobster roll is double in size, the staff kindly sliced and served it to us in separate portions, or we would have made a mess of it ourselves, ha ha!). The reception staff, food, and wait service were all great! We loved our kama'aina trip to Waikiki, which, for locals, is sometimes a rarity! The only downside - we called to ask where best to park and were told they validated at the Ross' parking lot, and were given the lot name to plug into Maps. On checkout, though, we were told an entirely different parking lot name;( and therefore "ran" through Ross' with melting Hula Pie to quickly make a purchase (validated up to two hours with a $10 purchase) and avoid a big parking lot fee. We managed to do that and only had to pay $4, thank goodness! Good thing we love Ross', too, LOL.
It was busy for dinner. We came for the Pi Day special. Hula pie for $3.14 a slice. Regular vanilla or mint flavor Rosalani ice cream. We had seafood roll sandwich; 2 tacos - shrimp tempura and chicken with kalbi sauce. I liked the shrimp tempura the chicken was dry. I was told the seafood roll was good and the hamburger and fish and chips were also good. The slices were a bit melted but still tasted yummy. The service was good and we also asked for kamaaina rate. We were glad to get a table but sad that the staff at Duke's downstairs gave us the wrong information for parking. So we could not obtain validation from the restaurant. We had to hurry back to the Waikiki Parking Garage on Seaside. We were supposed to park at an Outrigger parking lot somewhere in Waikiki. So sad we had to pay so much for parking.
Had late dinner at hula grill last night .. the view is amazing! We sat on the veranda facing the ocean. Our server was awesome! He was very attentive and super helpful and friendly with everything we needed. We shared the steak plate that came topped with mushrooms and mash potatoes. And we ordered a side of their cream corn. The steak was nicely grilled to a medium rare perfection. The mash potatoes and mushrooms paired well with the steak.. the corn was a little bland I felt like without a crunch to them also. I probably won't order that again.. corn is my weakness so I was a little sadden by that dish. For dessert we shared a hula pie and omg do not pass on that! Even if you're full.. it's a must order treat! Not tooooo sweet by amazingly delicious! We finished the pie so fast
Delicious as always! I've been to Hula Grill before and the food and atmosphere are still wonderful. I could have sworn they used to have a fresh fruit platter that I was looking forward to, but it looks like the menu has changed over the years. Still, everything was delicious, the location is beautiful, and it's such a great Waikiki spot. Things change, but Hula Grill is still worth coming back to. Would definitely return! read more

This is one of those "you can't go wrong" place. I usually come here for breakfast when I'm in Waikiki and food has always been solid. Although this is located in the most touristic area, it's been consistently good. Their service is always top notch and you can't beat the view of the beach and Diamond head! read more

This restaurant was conveniently located inside our hotel which was great, especially since we were navigating traveling with a four month old. The restaurant is right in front of the beach which makes for a great view. We ordered the prime rib and some Hawaiian classics for breakfast. We were throughly impressed with the prime rib specifically since the price was something you just couldn't beat, especially given the location. If you decide to dine here, I'd definitely recommend making reservations in hopes you can be sat next to the water for a good view! read more

Sad first night dinner.... We were so hyped coming here, because I wanted a macnut crusted fish, and the photos made everything look so good. Boy.... Were we disappointed. Got the salad, crab topped Mac nut fish, crab wontons and hula pie. We didn't understand why there were sauces on the table but soon realized they were a necessity. Crab wontons needed the vinaigrette sauce, due to lack of flavor. Salad was unexciting, and the fish was bland with barely any crab. That vinaigrette became the mvp to get us through. Even the hula pie was mid, with icey ice cream and unflavorful crust. Server was amazingly nice, and the ambiance is killer, but this is a quinnesential white person/tourist restaurant where its vibe over flavor. Won't be back. Better off at dukes. read more
Wonderful views and service, and good food. We came in on a Thursday night around 5:30 and got a table near the bar. We were able to get some drinks from the early eats menu. After a bit we ordered our entrees. I got the Crab Topped Mahi Mahi. It's pricey ($51) but was good. My wife got the BBQ Chicken. It was tender, meaty, and tasty. Good wine list and fantastic service. We also splurged on the Hula Pie. It's a decadent ice cream pie combo that was delicious. read more

Reception was fantastic.... We couldn't book on OpenTable nor via phone. But when we walked up they accommodated us with immediate seating. Service was very good, except that a spoon was not provided to us when they brought out the seafood broth entree, and they forgot a side dish. Server made it up to us by comping our dessert. We had dinner tonight at Hula Grill Waikiki. They are owned by the same folks that owns Duke's which is right down stairs from this restaurant. They were busy especially considering that it is Saturday night but we were able to scoop up a couple of great seats at the bar. Brandon the bartender too great care of us while handling the other patrons and servers seeking his attention. We started off with the localicious salad and it was dressed perfectly and it was delicious. They were kind enough to split it into two plates for us without asking, nice touch! I had the Chef's Burger and Fries and I really enjoyed it. It was cooked to a perfect medium temperature and the fries were hot and delicious. My Wife ordered the Ginger Pesto fresh catch and she really enjoyed it. The flavor profile was incredibly delicious. We had a great experience here and I highly recommend this wonderful eatery right on the beach at Waikiki! read more

The veggie omelet was simple and tasty. I just wish the potatoes were crispier and it only came with one little piece of brie. For the price ehhhh... it's what expected from a Waikiki restaurant. If you wanna treat yourself, get the HULA PIE. The macnut ice cream was loaded with macnuts giving every bite a satisfying crunch. The chocolate fudge was what MADE this ice cream pie. The hardened outer shell gives way to molten fudge underneath. Pair it with the whipped cream and its truly a slice of heaven. The pictures don't do it justice. The pie is huuuuge. read more

If underwhelming was understatement- this would be prime example number one. We should have known better. It's RIGHT in a hotel. In the touristy part of the island. "Good reviews"- seemed too good to be true. My kids ordered banana pancakes. Our thoughts- banana IN the pancakes. No no just a slice of banana on top. The sorriest driest pancake on bottom. Soooo disappointing if I had Hawaiian ancestors they would be crying. The Mac nut syrup- well if you like tasteless goop? Might be up your alley!? Also with the saddest test pancakes on bottom. Not infused with Mac nut or banana. Service was nice. Ambiance was ok- views of ocean calmed my nerves. read more
Came here because a kid wanted hula pie, a family fave from Kimo's in Lahaina RIP. Also wanted a sunset view! Sadly, cloudy so we couldn't see the sun but great view of Waikiki with local musicians playing below. The food was surprisingly good for a tourist focused venue, ahi tacos, and ahi entree stood out, with hula pie as the real treat. If you valet park it's $15 for 4 hours. Not bad for Waikiki! read more

Hula Grill Waikiki delivers big on views, drinks, and a few standout dishes. The Hula Rita and lychee martini were excellent--balanced, refreshing, and easily the best drinks we had here. The Mai Tai, though heavily hyped, was just average in comparison. Food-wise, the crab wontons and Korean chicken wings alone make this place worth visiting--crispy, flavorful, and perfect to share. The real surprise was today's special: swordfish with lobster fried rice--absolutely amazing and deserving a permanent spot on the regular menu, not just a special. Add in the beautiful second-floor ocean views and attentive service, and Hula Grill makes for a very enjoyable Waikiki dining experience. read more
Between Hula Grill, and its rivalry downstairs, I recommend Hula Grill for breakfast for quality not quantity. The food I find to taste way better. We have been twice now and have ordered the vegetable omelet, strawberry mochi waffles and banana nut pancakes. I think the banana nut pancakes have too much nuts, but that's ok. We also ordered the macadamia nut coffee with almond milk which I could have cared less about. Service was good both times. We will be back for the next few days during our stay. What is nice is that you have great seating views of the beach, and there's a big bar section which we didn't seat at. read more

Hula Grill is great! While we didn't see any hula dancing at Hula Grill, we did have a marvelous view of Waikiki Beach. We had the Shrimp Pasta and the BBQ chicken which were both prepared perfectly. The staff was great and accommodating to us accidentally getting confused about our reservation time and showing up 45 minutes late. There was some pretty major construction going on in the hotel when we visited that wasn't made obvious to us when we made our reservation, which isn't great, but we still had a lovely time! read more

Great service and the view was amazing. Our waitress was spectacular and very friendly! The food was on point, we had the seafood omelette, macadamia pancakes, bacon and Portuguese sausage. Definitely will be returning here on my next trip. read more
Had dinner while staying in Waikiki for work. I've been here before but for lunch. I preferred their lunch options over dinner. Definitely make a reservation as with many places on the Waikiki strip, it can be hard to find a table via walk in. For dinner I ordered the braised mushroom ravioli. The ravioli and filing were flavorful. The sauce was bland. Our server was very kind and attentive. read more
What a delicious way to start the day!!!! We made a reservation and were seated promptly. Luck us! We were seated with a great ocean view. I had a Pog mimosa to start and hubs had coffee. We decided to have the Portuguese Benedict's and the banana Mac pancakes. What a delight for the taste buds! Zero regrets in the decisions made Normally I am not a huge pancake person-these babies were the perfect fluffiness and not overly sweet. The Bennys were spot on as well. Not drowning in sauce, which is a nice reprieve from many places. 10/10 recommend! read more

We dropped by for breakfast around 8am. The place was pretty so we got a great table for 2 overlooking the beach. The view was great, but be mindful of the birds flying around. My wife ordered the Kam'aina and my I ordered the Loco Moco. The Loco Moco was pretty good. It's not your regular ground beef patty but a collection of pulled pork, Portuguese sausage and beef. It was really good, but I would have been happy with a good ol' normal beef patty. The Kama'aina omlette was full of bacon and Portuguese sausage. Pretty good if you're a meat lover. Both dishes were good but not exactly mind blowing. The service was excellent. Our server checked on us regularly and refilled our waters constantly. All in all, nice view, average food, and great service. Mind you, it was just breakfast, so a busy lunch might be a whole different story. read more

The Hula Grill has a great view of the beach and the Waikiki coastline. The staff was great, friendly, kind, and checked on us often. They helped us celebrate mom's 88th birthday with a Hula Pie! The food was good, the restaurant is fun but not as noisy as downstairs Duke's. Would love to come back next time we're in Oahu. read more
First time at Hula Grill Waikiki was on Friday, September 8, 2023. Rachey told me that they brunched here earlier that week, but DJ and I went for a late dinner, booking reservations through OpenTable for two at 9:30 PM. Walking to Hula Grill from the Royal Hawaiian was about a short ten-minute walk. The relaxed beachside restaurant is located at the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort, on the second floor, above Duke's. The venue appeared to be clean and well kept on the night of our visit. Upon arrival, we had a short, few minutes' wait prior to being seated at a table in the lanai with oceanfront views. Aside from the beer that DJ ordered, below are what we had for dinner: LAVA FLOW ($15) - I never had a lava flow that I didn't love. This was yummy. HULA CAESAR ($12) - A nice bowl of fresh greens. BRAISED MUSHROOM RAVIOLI ($28) - DJ doesn't normally order ravioli dishes because he usually finds them to be skimpy in portions. This plate did not disappoint in the taste nor serving size categories. FILET STEAK KIANA ($54) - I was very pleased with Hula Grill's version of steak diane. So ono it was. My partner surprised me with a dinner reservation on a Wednesday at 715pm. I had no clue where he was going to take me so I just went along. We got there at around 645pm so we can sit by the balcony. Upon getting there, we were told that if we wanted the balcony, we had to wait a little bit more so we did. After waiting, we finally was seated by the balcony and it had the perfect view. Our server Sterling is the best!!! He kept checking up on us and would answer all our questions about the menu. I had to ask him a few times about what the other people around us are having since they look so good. For appetizers, we got the crab and macadamia nut wonton. You can taste the crab in it. For our main entrees, I was torn about what to get. I didnt want to get something and not be able to finish it since Ive seen other tables ans the portion is big. Well I ended up getting another appetizer. This time got the honey nut mac shrimp and gotten some carbs to go with it (truffle parmesan fingerlong potatoes). Both were good. I was surprised by the amount of shrimp that I got. My partner got the filet steak Kiana (medium). He had me taste his and wished I ordered it. The meat was so tender and moist that it melts in your mouth. For dessert, we got the Hula Pie and this is a winner!!! Good thing they have these at Duke's which is in Malibu (CA). Service is so good here. Not sure if people are just happier in Hawaii but everyone is kind here. Food here has large portions and tastes so fresh. For breakfast, I highly recommend the açaí bowls and crab Benedict. The fruit tastes sweet and matches perfectly with the included honey oats. The crab Benedict was packed with fresh crab and didn't have a lot of mayo and other condiments which I appreciated. Lunch you must get the lobster seafood roll (not loaded with sauce but with seafood which I love) and it was with a baguette type roll which was a fun change than the classic lobster roll. I thought their Mushroom Ravioli was a good choice. It was slightly bland, but still enjoyable with a lot of vegetables. I think you can always ask them too limit the salt too.
Is happy hour being offered during covid and of so, what are the days and hours?
They do, but it's technically not a happy hour. It's called Early Eats and served in the bar from 3-6 PM
Any gluten free dish?
They can sub some items like gluten free bun. Also have a few that can be modify to be gluten free
Is it only reservations?
We visited in April and did a walk up seating. the wait was only 20 minutes . Reservations are recommended
Do they still offer early bird specials for dinner?
As per our last visit, they offered a phenomenal Happy Hour menu, well priced and delicious. Hula is not expensive, they serve up a well priced menu. Enjoy!
