I can always count on Kyuramen. I've been to several of their locations and the food is always solid. Super kid-friendly. Ramen is always the way to go. But I also love their omurice tonkatsu too! Everything went well for takeaway from this Ramen * Tea spot that sits directly across from the 12th street side of Reading Terminal market, next to Panera. The interior is made for cameras (see photos). I decided to go with something easy on my first visit and sampled the Tonkotsu ramen-it came nicely packed with utensils sealed in a branded package, noodles in a container sitting on top of the broth container and the accoutrements in another container. The Ramen was really good! From the slow simmered taste of the deeply flavored bone broth to the perfect texture of the noodles to the perfectly soft-cooked egg. Our minor con was the size of the meal for the price. At almost $18 for each ramen, both me and my lunch companion (who doesn't eat a whole lot) were able to finish the entire portion in one go. My first time at this restaurant was at the NYC location. I was so excited to be in town and walk past the Philly location and realize it was the same restaurant. The biggest downside was that I saw a HUGE roach run across the restaurant. We stepped on it and asked the server to clean it up but it ruined my appetite. I tried one of the NY locations and so when I saw this, I immediately jumped on it. Most of the food came out great, some of the ramens were meh (#3). The Ying Yang and the Kimchi ramens were good, though a little less spicy would have been ideal. The bao bun can be skipped, had a huge piece of fat on it. The kicker though was the roach we had to kill before it came under our table and that's when I started looking around. Vents and such also needed cleaning. We were super excited to try out the Uber trendy Kyuramen. We walked in for lunch/dinner. There was about 20-30 min wait at the time, but the tables do turn quickly. We were hoping to be seated in the honeycomb, but we got seated in the back at a private booth instead. I think we actually ended up preferring this instead as it's more quiet. We ordered combo B to try a little bit of everything. It included popcorn chicken, spicy miso and tonkotsu shoyu ramen, with matcha pudding and the Japanese cherry blossom jelly. We really like the popcorn chicken which was seasoned well and juicy. Along with the two desserts as they were refreshing and weren't overly sweet. I've seen Kyuramen in a few different cities across the U.S., but I never had the chance to try it until I noticed they opened one right across from the convention center in Philadelphia, super convenient while I was there for work. I stopped in for dinner the night I arrived, and it was exactly the warm, comforting meal I needed after traveling. The service was really friendly and attentive. Since it was a Monday night it wasn't too busy, and we were able to grab one of the honeycomb booths, which was a fun as they are known for those We started with a few appetizers: the pork bao, takoyaki, and the cucumber salad. Everything was really good! The cucumber salad was a little spicy for me, so next time I'll probably ask for a bit less chili oil. For ramen, my husband ordered the Kyushu Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen, and I got the YingYang Bowl. It's divided in two so you can try two different ramens. You don't get to choose the flavors, but both sides were really good and it was fun getting to try two kinds in one bowl. Overall we really liked it. Personally, I love the yinyang bowl since it offers two types of ramens on different sides of the same bowl: the Tonkatsu Shoyu ramen and Sapporo Miso ramen. I also love that each table comes with different types of flavoring peppers. My favorite, to my surprise, was the sauerkraut pepper. While it didn't add any heat, the flakes' slight tangy and salty flavor added an interesting taste profile that made each ramen even more delicious. The ambience of this place is casual and trendy. I like that there are tables both on the ground level as well as on the raised beehive-like platform. If you're lucky enough to be seated at one of these higher tables, you can dine in style while looking down on all the rest of the less fortunate diners. Service here is top-notch. It's a rainy day here in Philly, so naturally I ordered ramen in. I love how it came prepared so as not to disturb the flavors/with the ability to reheat the items without affecting the texture. We went in today when the place was maybe 15% filled. there were tables everywhere without people seated. We sat down, got our ramen and drinks and started eating. We had to ask for water... Before even finishing our ramen, we were given the check and asked "are you ordering anything else?". Why give me a receipt if I may be ordering something next? Once again, this place was EMPTY. I stopped into Kyuramen with my family of 4 and friends of ours who were a party of 3. We heard about this place because my friends are regulars and they love it. Unfortunately this experience wasn't great for most of us. Let's start with the good. The food itself is good. Most folks got ramen but boba tea, desserts, shrimp tempura and fries were also ordered. Someone also ordered the egg on fried rice. Everyone enjoy the food. The issues we all had were with the service and lack of knowledge about certain diets. A friend of mine was annoyed they didn't ask her about her sugar preference for her drink, which came out way too sweet. Another friend was disappointed that all the sauce was poured over her egg dish. She normally prefers it on the side. For me, I was unable to eat anything. On the menu, there is a key showing you that the symbols by each food item is either gluten free, spicy, vegetarian, etc. My personal issue is that none of the food items had the gluten free icon added to the food. Was this a mistake? Apparently not. Even though the gluten free icon was on the menu, nothing is gluten free. At all. Can you grill me a veggie with no sauce? No. Do you have a piece of meat that can be boiled? Sautéd? No. Do you have plain broth? No. No, no and more no. The waitress tried helping out by asking....does tofu have gluten? Maybe you can have the edamame? Like are you asking me? I don't think I work here and I do not know if your tofu dish contains gluten. Are you cooking it or are you giving it to me in the package. I just don't understand. So being that I did not eat anything, I was pretty disappointed. Everyone else was not super happy with the other issues, but had less problems than I did. There are also private (curtained) rooms available for larger parties. We tried the Honeycomb Platter (Chili Garlic Edamame, Popcorn Chicken, Shrimp Tempura, Takoyaki, Agedashi Tofu) of which I especially loved the tofu--what a marvelous sauce! The batter on the shrimp and the chicken made me think that the katsu offerings must be good as well, as it was nice and light. I tried the Korean Kimchi Ramen (Chashu Pork, Kimchi, Bamboo Shoots, Corn, Wakame, Scallions, Nori, Half Marinated Egg) and my fellow diner tried the Kyushu Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen - Spice level "hot" (Chashu Pork, Corn, Bamboo Shoots, Wakame, Scallions, Nori, Half Marinated Egg). Both had delicious broth and chewy noodles (thinner than traditional egg ramen noodles, but not as thin as buckwheat), and the marinated egg and kimchi were terrific. The pork had a nice flavor, but was not as succulent as found in other ramen bowls in the city. Both bowls had a nice zip of spice, but I wouldn't label either as "spicy." The ambiance is slightly upscale but the food and drinks are comforting and delicious. The #2 ramen had a slow build of heat that started to get more tough towards the bottom of the bowl but it was great overall. I'd just potentially skip the fish flakes since they ended up clumping together in my soup. Service was super friendly and they even offered the option of splitting by dish at your table which is nice if that's your preference. We got a menu for food and menu for drinks from the TBaar with is a drink spot nextdoor/inside. When you are ready you can push a button to call the wait staff. Most of the food option is ramen and while not ideal for the weather out side they had a couple options. My colleague ordered the Chicken ramen and I got the honeycomb combo. Essentially served in dishes to mimic their honeycomb seating. Food came out quick and was really good and for me the right portion. We were seated immediately in one of the upstairs swings and it was just fun. We started with the brown sugar bubble tea and a few appetizers, all were delicious!!! Then it came time for the main event the ramen. Soooooo good, and filling! Not to mention this is the first ramen place I've seen that sells combo meals. Pork buns, ramen, and a drink for a really decent cost. Seriously we ate quite a bit and didn't break the $100 level. I went with the pork ramen, my partner went with the katsu and we were soon in a food coma (the ITIS is a thing) Service was top notch as well, attentive while leaving plenty of room for a couple to talk. We also had the lunch special which I really liked because they give you options at a nice price. You can pick and choose your drink, your ramen and a certain appetizer for less than 20 bucks. They are always watching, but if it gets busy and you can't make eye contact, the button is helpful to get quick service.
