The food was fantastic. Small plates. Greek. Nuevo. Breaking rules. Hard to know where to begin. This is such a great place with a great vibe. Started with an 1821 Old Fashioned...smoked. So good. The presentation was spectacular. Also had the Horiatiki salad made with vine-ripened tomatoes, cucumber, barrel aged feta, red onion, fresh oregano and capers. This was to die for. Main courses consisted of Slow Roasted Lamb Gyros that came with vine ripened tomato, tzatziki, red onion, warm pita... it was not your traditional gyros. Whole meat...not processed...not fatty and just so flavorful. Really spectacular. Enough for two people. Also had Deconstructed Pastitsio made with short rib ragu, béchamel, fresh black truffle. This is very untraditional as it is light and easy to eat. Tried the Wagyu Beef Souvlaki , Bouzoukia Potatoes made with sheep butter yogurt, mizithra cheese, charred onions, oregano and the Spanakopiakia. Oh my god are this was all so over the top good. There was so much food that much of it had to be packed to go. For desert, we were treated to the Loukoumades with sides of salted caramel, orange anglaise, honey and chocolate coffee custard. Ended the night with Ouzo watermelon cordials. Amazing. 10/10 The service was fantastic on another level. Costa greeted us and treated us like family. Theo was our waiter and his service was top notch as was his team. This place works like a well oiled classy machine. Friendly, professional, attentive and gracious. It was like having a family member on the inside guiding you through the menu options and making sure the cadence of food coming to your table is timed to keep you in a constant state of awe building to a culinary crescendo. Absolutely Amazing Dining experience! Everything was top notch from entry to end. I recommend RESERVING a table between 9pm-10pm if you want a lot of action and a lively atmosphere. For dinner, we enjoyed the Horiatiki and Charred Octopus for starters. Both were excellent! For our mains we thoroughly enjoyed the King Salmon Souvlaki and Lamb Souvlaki! AMAZING! Finally for desert, the Star of the show was the Bougatasa!! Must have!! At 11:30, everyone in the restaurant is given a sparkler just to celebrate. Such a fun experience! Our server, Serafeim, was attentive and well informative of the menu. My friend went back and got it recently and it was just as she remembered (and I was very jealous). Hummus and charred beets -- two of my favorite things. This appetizer did not disappoint. It was only two of us and we did everything we could to finish this and the pasta. Worth every single calorie. The cocktails were everything I was looking for -- they made the Boulevardier perfectly and without any issue. We also tried a French 75 and that was tasty, too. Lyra was such a fun spot in the west loop, an area of chicago with no shortage of great dinner spots. I would definitely recommend this as a fun date night spot even though it's pretty loud in there. The food itself was good but I thought the portions weren't that big and while good, it wasn't the best I've had in terms of the cuisine. Our server Zoya was absolutely amazing. She guided our group on how to order--which portions were enough for 1-2 person vs 3-4 persons. We ended up ordering a bunch of small plates including the grilled cauliflower, the meatballs, the scallops and crispy calamari. We also had the hummus sampler, which was beautifully done. Each dip had a different flavor profile, creamy, zesty, slightly smoky,and the presentation was great. This place in Fulton Market is insane. An energy level off the charts. The most beautiful women in Chicago, Only 20's and 30's. Hell I'm not going to some old people place with Frank Sinatra music in the background. More of a nightclub pick up place than a restaurant. I think my wife and I were the only couple. My dad once told me that if you show up at a fancy restaurant with a reservation and they unapologetically keep you standing around for than ten minutes, it is an ill omen and you should think about walking away. He was perhaps overly strict on this point, but it might have been true in this case. The service was poor -- very slow, and with plenty of misses and few check-ins, making simply ordering dessert into a 30-minute ordeal (let alone eating it). Our drinks came out so slowly that we briefly wondered if we had been struck by amnesia and were already on our second round. The music is loud and pounding, and the buzz is "European club." As for the food? It's pretty good! The lamb gyros spread is very tasty, and they make excellent pitas. But it's not so transcendent as to be worth the eye-popping prices, let alone suffering through the hip ambience. read more

WARNING - DON'T HAVE DINNER AT LYRA IF YOU ARE OVER 50 OR EXPECT TO EAT GREEK CUISINE Lyra claims to be modern Greek. The menu lists familiar Greek dishes, but they are Greek in name only. I like the concept - a modern interpretation of traditional Greek dishes, but they are unable to execute. The result is a ridiculous concoction that neither looks nor tastes good. My main was an ill-conceived version of lamb Gyros. It is served very much like Mexican fajitas but doesn't taste as good and costs twice as much. I asked the server about this dish before ordering, and I should have ignored his recommendation after he called this dish "Gerros" - not "Yerros". This is an expensive restaurant. I'm astounded by a server addressing us with flippant "you guys" - not once but a dozen times. Expensive restaurants require professional, high-end servers who are knowledgeable about the menu and know how to interact with customers respectfully. The kitchen brings the food much faster than the server can manage to serve 2 glasses of wine from the bar. Their spanakopita looks and tastes a lot like Trader Joe's frozen brand - except saltier. Greek horiatiki salad was fantastic. Best item on our table. Meatballs were terrific, too. What's with the 60-second pita? It's so thick you can't use it for the purpose intended. I should point out the 3.5% service charge added to the tab. Not sure what this charge covers. Maybe the CC fees. Maybe it's intended to snag a little extra for the house. I didn't bother asking - I just deducted it from my tip. Final comment - the music is way too loud. The constant bass thumping can drive anyone over 50 into an early grave. So, if you're 49 or less, you have an unlimited expense account, you have a hearing problem, you don't like Greek food, and you're ok with locker room greetings, this is your kind of place. Enjoy! I've been to Lyra before and had a great experience, which is why this visit was especially disappointing. Unfortunately, this time it felt like anything and everything that could have gone wrong did. It started with parking. We had trouble finding street parking and decided to valet. That decision ended up being where the night both started and ended going downhill. Once seated, my wife and I were not served our main courses at the same time. When her steak finally arrived, it was ordered well done but came out medium rare, then was corrected and still came back rare. At that point, since we had another engagement to get to, she gave up on the entrée altogether and just ate the remaining appetizers. While the entrée was removed from the bill, the overall experience was already disappointing. The valet situation made things significantly worse. When we left, our car was still parked exactly where we had originally left it--despite having paid $35 for valet and handing over the keys. Two weeks later, I received a $75 parking ticket in the mail. The photo on the ticket clearly shows the valet kiosk. I contacted Lyra and was told the valet is handled by a third party and that I would need to email them--no phone number, no clear contact, and no direct support from the restaurant. I emailed the names provided and received no response. I called Lyra again asking for a contact number or any additional help and was told there were no phone numbers, no social media contacts, and no listed business info--just names. I was assured they would email me to request the ticket so they could help. That email never came (yes, I checked spam). To avoid additional fees, I ended up paying the ticket myself. What started as a night with minor frustrations turned into a genuinely disappointing experience overall. Given how much I enjoyed previous visits, this one was particularly sad. I hope this feedback helps improve both service coordination and accountability moving forward. read more

We found our way to Lyra through guest services at The Langham Chicago, which recommended Lyra for my husband's birthday dinner and reserved our table. Our server, Almendra, was incredible. A huge shout out to her for making our dinner great with her patience, knowledge, thoughtfulness, friendliness and great pacing. The dishes are served family style and we ordered and shared the calamari, the kale and avocado salad and the wagyu beef souvlaki. We LOVED the food. Every bite was delicious and packed with fresh and simple pairings that packed a punch. The portions were huge and we were stuffed. However, to celebrate my husbands birthday, Almendra also brought out Loukoumades, fried puffs with four dipping sauces - honey, caramel, chocolate and a glaze and we quickly made room. It's been a while since I've been impressed with every single dish I've eaten at a restaurant. My husband also had nothing but good things to say about his smoked old fashion. We were given a reservation that we were never told was actually outside when it was 40 degrees with barely functional heaters. We were then told if we like we can grab any table around the bar. When we sat down next to the bar a a free table, 2 minutes later the host came over to our table and rudely forced us to get up and said that we can only sit at the bar as all tables were reserved. Near Fulton market, this place is fantastic for people watching and the making vibe of Chicago in the summer. The line was long so make sure you have reservation. Decor is light and well done. Space is tight and they are packing too many people into small space. I recommend sitting outside if you don't like the tight space feeling Staff is supper friendly and works hard. Our waiter was great. Issue with my low rating was due to how they handled some accident. In our party, we had 12 people. One colleague got hit in the face by menu which left small bruise on her forehead. My other colleague has some cheese fall in their sports coat which left little stain. Although staff was apologetic I thought the nice thing to do by management is to acknowledge the accident and try to make it right. Sadly nothing was done. Little disappointing. This place will do very well. One experience doesn't make this place a bad place to eat. It does reflect on management as other issues arise and how they handle it will make this place great or not. Been to Lyra numerous times for brunch, drinks and dinner. Its actually one of my favorite places to frequent in not just the west loop, but the whole city! Brunch menu favorites are Lyra Omelet (my go-to), short rib hash, spinach & feta scramble and steak & eggs! Cant go wrong with any of those. I see most people get the Breakfast Pita so I may need to check it. I usually wash it all down with the Mykonian Mezz which is a mezcal cocktail and very good & refreshing. I usually close my brunch out with the Loukoumades (warm greek donuts basically) that comes with 4 delicious sauces...go ahead and mix the chocolate with salted carmel and thank me later! Dinner is great as well as some of the great items are the Charcoal grilled lamb chops (woooo!), charred cauliflower, charred beets & hummus, tuna tartare, coal roasted brussel sprouts, grilled octopus and deconstructed pastitsio. Went for a fine dining experience with a friend during Chicago Restaurant Week! Chose from their Restaurant Week menu, which had 3 courses for $60. I got the Tuna Tartare, Moussaka, and Loukoumades. I've never tasted anything like the Moussaka--so creamy and cheesy yet complex with notes of the caramelized surface and vegetables. Very delicious and filling. The Loukoumades were also amazing--I loved the sauce assortment that came with them, and the donuts themselves were so light yet chewy.
