This morning my wife Jen & I joined a friend Janel who had mentioned to us this cooking class called L'Academie Baking & Cooking School, so we booked a class and today we are here to make Homemade Cinnamon Rolls, who doesn't love Cinnamon Rolls? WE had a BLAST Paul our instructor was great and explained step by step during the whole process and answered questions along the way, the finished product was Amazing we are planning on attending some of the other classes as they do a variety of others. We made chicken piccata and when I say the experience was world class I truly mean it. There were 10 people in our class and it really gave us an intimate feel. First and foremost it was good quality family time. We all enjoyed it. It was unfortunate that my party of 4 was crammed at one table- extremely tight. I can see 3, but best if limited to 2, with 4 people we were cramped and had to swap places to give others a chance to cook. The pasta was good. Chicken piccata not so much. Far too much lemon juice. I thought this was a hands on cooking couple date night class . The teacher was the one adding all the food you were cooking to each couples dish, which was odd. Then this other guy kept standing over peoples food talking , and all we did was stir the food in the pan. We could not season our own food or anything just stir. I took the carbonara class and it was a complete joke. He had us soak chicken breast in heavy cream (mind you carbonara is not a cream sauce even) onions bacon and that's it. This "Chef" paul has no idea what he's doing and we didn't even get what we paid for cause we didn't make the bananas foster in the classes description. All these reviews must be fake or from people with no food knowledge or taste buds cause it was disgusting and not even correct. Not only do I love L'Academie but my daughter does as well! Chef Dan and his team are incredibly patient and kind when it comes to both adults and children in the kitchen. My daughter has attended several cooking camps and workshops over the summer and breaks from school. She always has a great time despite the fact that she is painfully shy. We did a work Team Builder here making the Tallegiate Bolognese and man it was great. Chef Martinez and Patty were our guides for this experience and we all had a blast not just learning how to prepare the meals, but the little fine details involved that help fellow chefs like myself make our meals unique and separate from the rest. 6 members in my group so we paired it up with 3 tables. We watched Chef Martinez prepare the meal with instructions for us to follow first. I knew that making the pasta from scratch was challenging, but Chef made it really easy and sure enough, we got it spot on!!!. All of the items needed were prepped for us so we didn't have to focus so much on fine chopping portions (which was) nice and you could follow through the guided steps if you lost track from the chef's initial preparation. Great fun not only as a work team builder but ideal for date night and families as they offer a variety of cooking sessions that introduce you to so many meals, desserts and more!!! I've taken a couple of classes here with friends and we always leave ready to sign up for the next class. We love Chef Dan! He is very talented and funny. I love that he goes around and checks on your work. He is going to be there to help you out. I tend to be a little too cautious. We tend to take the sweet classes but would love to take something savory as well. The classes fill up very quickly so if you see something you are interested in sign up right away. I also recommend bringing to go containers with you. Servings are generous and I've never not needed a container to bring some goodies home. read more

What a terrific experience! A friend and I went to "Two Braided Breads", where we made chocolate babka and rum raisin bread. Chef Dan was fabulously organized. Class size was intimate (appears to be around a dozen people maximum, with two per prep table) and the kitchen classroom functioned like a well-oiled machine. We worked on both breads simultaneously -- first, making the rum raisin bread dough and then setting it aside to proof for 30 minutes, then Chef Dan brought out the babka dough (which needed to rise overnight). Because we weren't able to prep the babka dough ourselves, Chef Dan made an example batch of to show us so we could ask any questions about it. There's a TV screen set up above Chef Dan that has a video camera on the countertop he works on, so that everyone in the kitchen classroom can clearly see what he is doing. The timing of the class was excellent -- we worked on the babka while the rum raisin bread proofed, and then finished the rum raisin bread while the babka baked, then decorated the babka while the rum raisin bread baked... The kitchen classroom was extremely clean, organized, and a staff member periodically came by to clean up any discarded utensils. Finally, Chef Dan sliced up the example babka and rum raisin bread he made and served us all slices of them, so that we would be able to try the breads without cutting our own breads that we were going to take home. We were given take-home instructions if we wanted to recreate either bread. My one recommendation would be for folks to remember to bring take-home boxes -- they are clear to recommend you bring them when you reserve tickets online, but my friend and I forgot. They have take-home boxes available for $1 at the kitchen classroom as well. We were extremely satisfied and will absolutely return! read more

I am so happy I went to l'academie school, I have learned so much and have been having a great time doing it. I have to admit the high price tags on cooking schools are why it took me so long to actually attend any classes. I love cooking and am mostly self taught with some tips from my MIL thrown in. I never thought it would be worthwhile to go to a class when YouTube is free. I was very wrong. My friend hosted an event at one of Chef Dan's Macaron classes and I realized then that the practical experience of being face to face with the chef/teacher is so valuable. Being able to ask questions or have them look in your bowl and let you know if you need to stir a little more has helped me with some of the dishes I would not have tried with just following a recipe. The price is worth every penny, even if you just learn one thing from the class, if you make the meal one time instead of going to a restaurant you've paid for the class! I've now taken an around the world class, a date night class, and I'm signed up for a few more this summer! I loved so many of the dishes that I can't even list them all. My daughter who stopped liking pasta is now a huge fan of fresh homemade pasta Chef Therese taught and I'm all for it (it's really much simpler than I expected before taking the class. Had an absolute blast at L'Academie Pie class! Mollee taught us how to make a cheddar crusted apple pie and a brown butter pecan pie just in time for Thanksgiving. Both pies turned out amazing and the instruction was great! L'Academie makes everything so easy for you to follow along with your instructor. Everything is portioned out for you and set up, the instructor demonstrates and then you go and apply what you just learned. My favorite part was doing the lattice for the crust, learning secret tips for making the perfect pie crust (something I have always struggled with), and then of course eating them after dinner that night! For $55 this pie class was worth it! We took home two mini pies and pie dough to make 2 pies on our own at home! Can't wait to try their other classes like Holiday appetizers or Christmas Cookie Decorating. read more

My friend and I took the croissant class last night and not only had an amazing time learning and, of course, eating awesome croissants. We also thoroughly loved Chef Dan and sous chef Sally! They were thoughtful and abundantly encouraging! We arrived about a half hour early and Chef Dan took the time to chat and answer questions before class and of course during class. The class was full and two of the four tables had couples having a date night which was really neat. We made butter, chocolate, and ham and cheese croissants and all were so amazing and the best I've ever had! Secrets and tips were presented so that the croissants can be replicated at home. Some specialty ingredients were offered for sale so that a home chef didn't have to purchase (at another retailer) a pound of an item that only needed a quarter teaspoon. Handwashing was required and food safe disinfectant was available throughout the class. It was obvious that cleanliness was paramount in this age. Of course masks were required throughout. I have traveled the world and eating croissants in Paris and Nice France, England, Greece, and other places and these croissants topped them all!!!!! Thank you Chef Dan and L'academy! read more

Took a quiche Lorraine class today and enjoyed it. Nice company, great chefs, good recipes, hard things to cook are make things easy enough that you can actually cook them at home. Plenty of equipment and helpers and 100% hands on. I went home with a delicious quiche that I made myself. This would be 5 stars except for two things: 1) I took a couple of the full classes and felt that we were packed in like sardines without enough roving coaches or enough bench space and 2) seats are really uncomfortable. The seating thing may sound silly, but I can't stand for 3 hours so I end up sitting a fair amount. I have signed up for several more classes and look forward to more great experiences with L'accademie. read more
