We decided to try this place for the first based on reviews. It was Saturday afternoon and it was not real busy. That's okay since it was the lullaby period. I had L&B for the first time recently and was pleasantly surprised. I was hoping to venture out and try a new Mexican spot, and I'm glad I did. I ordered the shrimp fajitas, and they were very tasty. From the veggies to the shrimp, the dish was excellent. They also had noteworthy tortillas. We love L&B in Bakersfield. We have been more than once. We have had dine in and take away. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is an adorable place and it is so clean and nicely appointed. It is very comfortable. My wife and I came here for the first time tonight at we were very happy overall with the food, music/atmosphere and service. We started with the asada fries. This was awesome! Fries were seasoned, perfectly cooked (not raw or burnt), and each piece of meat was tender and juicy. Flavor overall was really good. I ordered the carnitas dinner and my wife had the chicken flautas dinner. My carnitas were cooked really well, crispy on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside. Only thing I would say is that they could have used a little more flavor. However, they were still good. The rice and beans were also good. Same suggestion for the rice, needs a little more flavor, but still good. My wife's flautas were really good. Chicken was full of flavor and not dried out like some restaurants. The chicken flautas were perfect. Lastly, our sever, Marisol, was really nice and checked on us frequently. No issues with the server whatsoever. She was great. This is a cute & colorful restaurant, very family friendly. Classic rock plays in the background. They appear to be well loved by their regulars. My server was prompt & polite. They serve those very thin crispy homemade tortilla chips with a tasty roasted salsa, yum! I was just in for a quick snack and ordered a couple of crispy chicken tacos. My food came out quickly. They use those thin tortillas for this as well. I loved the crunch, but when the tortillas are that thin in a taco they disintegrate on the first bite so you just eat them with a fork. The restaurant is nice but they really could make it more authentic and cozy. I came in to order take away. They were quick and very friendly. I didn't see what my food looked like until I got back to my hotel. The carnitas I have never seen served like this before. First off service was great, they were very attentive. Only issue we had was that we had asked for corn tortillas on some tacos and they came in flour. We asked about it and assured us they were flour ‍. As for beverages they serve beer but no liquor yet, they did say they make a margarita out of some kind of wine but we passed on that. Chips and salsa hit our table almost immediately which I appreciated. Salsa had a Mild heat but decent flavor. I prefer spicy. Just before our food showed up though they came over with 2 bottles filled with a red and green salsa. Now that red salsa had some heat that sneaks up on you. Green one was good to. The carnitas plate came a bit different than normal. They are usually shredded but they came in looking like pork chops. The waitress explained that to me when I ordered them so I was ok with trying them. Came with lettuce guacamole tortillas rice and beans. We stopped into L&B for lunch and we're not disappointed. I got the carnitas plate which was a massive treat. Four entire pork chops that were deep fried to perfection came out on a platter with refried beans and rice. It was amazing with the salsa verde on the table. My daughter had the birria platter which was also an amazing amount of food. Honestly, we could have shared one of our platters, but then we would be restricted to one meal. My husband had the quesabirra tacos and raved about how amazing it was. I had the beef flautas and they were good too. Their rice and beans had a lot of flavor. The staff were nice and attentive. The rest of my family enjoyed their meals as well. My Dad is older and we find it hard to find places where the music isn't too loud so we can still have a conversation. Even though they had a few TVs on and some music, we were still able to hear each other. Having tried their fries, I want to go back and get their asada fries. Hopped into L & B Mexican restaurant for breakfast this morning or... or brunch more like it since it was late morning. I saw this place pop up on my Instagram feed from US Foods, so I wanted to check them out. The menu offers a limited selection of Mexican specialty dishes ranging from Chilaquiles to pork chili, Verde and Birria, a few seafood dishes, and pozole, and menudo on weekends only. I ordered the shredded beef taquitos plate, which came with rice and beans. I mostly judge a Mexican restaurant by how well they do the rice and beans and these were absolutely fantastic! The taquitos were delicious, although a bit over fried because the shredded beef inside was also crispy. My entire breakfast was delicious and I paired it with a cup of coffee. The staff was very friendly and professional. When I walked in, I was instructed to sit anywhere I liked, and the table was already set up with a couple of place settings and menus. Right away the staff brought me salsa and chips. I enjoyed my food so much that I ordered a couple of to go items for the kiddos at home. I ordered the sampler appetizer and the cactus salad, which the kiddos enjoyed at home. While I was waiting for my to go order, I was talking to one of the servers who turned out to be one of the owners. The owner I spoke to is Lupita, who told me that she is from Cuernavaca and the other owner is Betty who is from Mexico City. I thought the restaurant just recently opened since I saw a banner outside that said now open however, they opened a year ago in March. Congratulations to the business owners for their one year anniversary!
