Went for the dine in LA deal and was super worth it!! Tucked in an alley of DTLA, this place transports you to a cozy French living room. You can really tell that the food and ingredients are super high quality! As for what we ordered: - Escargots (5/5), no notes - super flavorful and tasty standard escargots done right! - French onion soup (5/5): the cheese was nicely melted and the soup was rich. Classic choice, can't go wrong! - Duck confit (5/5): never had this before but oh man it was so good! The duck skin was light and crispy, not oily at all and the duck was juicy. The flavors shined throughout and the purées complimented the duck really nicely. Super balanced dish - Beef Bourguignon (4/5): I wanted to love this more but I think the wine sauce was too overpowering. The beef was fork tender and cooked really nicely but I just thought the sauce was too strong. Everything else was nice! - pistachio crème brulee (5/5): I was so surprised but this was so good!! Never had these flavors before but it was the perfect blend of light and airiness with a hint of pistachio! Service was standard, they give table bread which was good and fresh! This restaurant is tucked away near Chinatown in LA, located within a small plaza alongside several other eateries. You'll need to venture a little deeper into the plaza to find it, but it's well worth the effort. They were offering a pre-fix menu during our visit, which was a great way to sample a variety of dishes. The standout items for us were the ENDIVE SALAD, BURGUNDY SNAILS, 48-HOUR DUCK LEG CONFIT, and the MOULES MARINIERES. Service was a bit slow, but the food was good. ENJOY! PS: Super weird, you have to leave the restaurant and go to a security guard in the middle of the plaza to let you in to use the restroom. Parking can be really difficult. This place is nice and cozy even though it's located in a bright hallway. I decided to try their DineLa dinner menu: $45 pp. Started off with their 1/2 dozen Burgundy Snails, then Duck Leg Confit (+$3), and finished with a Profiterole. Snails: 10/10, I loved how it's served the traditional way with the snails still in the shell and given the clamper and fork to eat with it. Fresh bread was provided. Duck Leg Confit: 8/10, I enjoyed it but I'm not a big fan of parsnip puree so that's on me. Profiterole: 8/10, only came with one; but despite that it was drowned in hot chocolate sauce which made it perfect! There is no bathroom in the restaurant itself but it's located in the hallway on the right with a security guard standing in front. Parking is tricky because its dtla but there are several garages ranging from $10-15, all around 1-2 blocks away. (They're open at 5pm; even though apple maps says 6pm). read more

Everything was amazing, and desserts were the highlight of the night. It wasn't overly sweet and was just right. I would go back just for the desserts alone, but also to try everything else on their menu. We met with the chef who was very kind. Both the chef and waitress are French. Service was amazing! Ambiance: L'appart is located in DTLA which can get sketchy at night, so we wished there were valet but unfortunately, there were only street parking and parking structures across the street. We paid $15 for parking a little over 2 hours. The restaurant itself however is charming and lovely, and you feel safe once you're in because there is security right in front. We were the only patrons when we had first arrived, and it was very spacious and decorated tastefully both inside and outside. Valentine's Day, so decided to make it French and try L'appart. Didn't necessarily want the set menu they had, but that was so they were offering after we sat down, so there we were. The bread started if with an amuse bouche. There were two bites, one was a stuffed mushroom, which was a nice and full of flavor. The other, not sure what it was, but also good. Appetizers came next to which we ordered the salmon gravelax. This came with a dill mousse and focaccia. The salmon was actually really good, not necessarily heading that hard salmon flavor you come to expect. The dill mousse probably helped cut that though. There could have been more focaccia for sure. Next were the entrees. The scallops were paired with a ginger beet puree with honey roasted beets. The beats didn't have that overpowering flavor you come to expect from beats and was actually more enjoyable than I thought it would be. The scallops were on the smaller side and I wish they would have had that nice sear on them, but still good. The beef tenderloin came medium rare with a stuffed potato. The meat was delicious, just fell apart in your mouth. As for the desserts, it was a trio of desserts with a chocolate fondant, a raspberry profiteroles and a lemon tart. The lemon tart has the most flavor and was very refreshing, while the raspberry profiterole was something different but good. The fondant was not memorable. Overall, really wish we could have tried some of the items on the regular menu, but the items we did have were cooked well with wonderful presentation. My friend and I dined here last night for DineLA week, and I'm so glad we did!! We both started with the shallot soup. It was out of this world! It had an amazing cheese crust even on the outside of the bowl. It had so much depth and flavor. Oh my goodness! I got the Beef Bourguignon and she ordered the duck confit. She loved her dish. I didn't try it but it looked great! The beef bourguignon was delicious! The meat was insanely tender, you don't even need a knife. It truly was lovely. The red wine and mushroom sauce was delicious. We each ordered one dessert so we tried both the crème brûlée and the profiterole. The profiterole was very good, we both love dark chocolate so it was right up our alley. But oh my goodness was that crème brûlée delectable! It was on another level for desserts. You have to order it. We had great service. They were attentive and were super kind to us all night. I would undoubtedly come back here again. Even if just for a bowl of soup and some crème brûlée! I've actually passed this restaurant multiple times with my work and we always said we should try it. I went to L'Appart for the first time for a Friendsmas dinner and we all left happy and full. The food was delicious our favorites were the cauliflower pizza, the octopus and the escargot. We did a dinner of mostly shared apps to taste a little bit of everything. We reordered the escargots because they were that good, unfortunately they ran out of octopus after our first order but c'est la vie. The portions for the appetizers were good but we were surprised at how small the tartare was especially considering it was a main plate. To be fair it does come with fries. The drinks were good and the service was excellent. For dessert we ordered their Nutella pizza and apple tart a la mode both good choices but we enjoyed the Nutella pizza with its toasted almonds the most. The only reason this was not a full 5 stars was the location. Parking is always crazy downtown but due to it being in the middle of two one-way streets, it was a bit hectic. It's easiest to just park at the lot across the way for a flat fee. They don't have bathrooms inside of the restaurant so you have to ask for a bathroom ticket from the restaurant, walk down the hallway and up the stairs to use the shared restroom for all the establishments in the shopping center. The bathrooms have a security guard at the front who will allow you in with the ticket so the restrooms are clean. Aside from this, the restaurant itself, the food and service are excellent. It was my first time here and I came with three other people for a nice early dinner. The inside felt nice and had homely vibes. Our server was taking our order and I would say I liked our food. The pizza was amazingly delicious. The crust and the bread were so tasty that we decided to order a dessert pizza at the end of our meal. Overall the escargots which are snails were hot and tasty. This spot is a little tricky to find, but once you do, you'll find the cutest decorated hall of restaurants. Seems very far removed from its area. We came on a weekday during lunch hours, and it wasn't busy at all. We were quickly seated by friendly service and introduced to some of the dishes when we asked. I ordered the dish of the day, which highlighted a perfectly cooked sea bass sitting on top of cauliflower purée and garnished with pearls of roe. The cauliflower purée was to die for!! My only critique is that the fish was sitting in a pool of oil, which I found to be a little unappetizing. Other than that, amazing and would come back to try the duck. read more

We wanted to check out Garcons de Cafe but somehow ended up at Air Food L'appart instead. The restaurants are connected, so it's either the same owner or some sort of partnership. This is probably one of the best onion soup I've ever had. It was light but very flavorful. Amazing experience! The whole experience struck that perfect balance of cozy, elevated, and authentically French. Started at the wine bar, which had a fantastic selection of French wines and cocktails in an intimate setting. Then headed to the restaurant, we ordered the Mussels Marinières and the 48-Hour Duck Leg Confit--both were rich, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. My boyfriend chose this place to celebrate my birthday dinner and I am so glad that he did. The ambiance of the restaurant is both warm and intimate. During our dinner, they only had one server plus the bartender was also helping her out. She did an amazing job at catering to all of the other tables' needs considering she was the only one serving the whole restaurant. The food was top tier! Prices are reasonable, portions are huge and flavors were just moutwateringly good! We started off with a dozen of Escargot and a bowl of French Onion Soup paired with our drinks of choice, Blackberry Mint Julep and a glass of red wine. For our mains, we shared the Burgundy Pizza and Beef Bourguignon. Everything we ordered was so good and we were really surprised how delicious everything was! What can be said about Food Air L'Appart? For starters it's probably the best French cafe dining in Los Angeles (and that includes Perle in Pasadena that is pretty darn good). My wife and I hadn't been in over a year and were surprised to find out they had moved to 5th and Broadway into a cute food court. The restaurant is much bigger than their old location and decorated nicely as a French bistro. They've added a few key ingredients to their move: they now have a wood fired oven for pizzas and there is an attached, but separately run, wine bar that is very cozy. As usual we brought our own wine: this time a 2015 Chateau Siran that Mathew, the owner of the wine bar, opened for us. I did peruse their wine list curated by Mathew and was surprised to find a thoughtful selection of French, California and even Mexican wines. I'm eager to go back to the wine bar and try some of these wines by the glass. We started with the grilled octopus appetizer that was absolutely delicious and beautiful to behold. The octopus was tender and the various sauces really accompanied the dish well. My wife ordered the beef Bourgogne which we had had at their previous location and I had the flank steak. The beef Bourgogne was a completely different version than what we had experienced previously: instead of it presented as more of a stew/brothy dish the meat had been shredded, cooked in the broth until virtually absorbed into the meat, reconstituted and presented almost as filet mignon. It came with a couple of creamy sauces and was fantastic. My flank steak was quite good with its mustard seed sauce and cooked perfectly medium rare. My only complaint about this dish were the French fries: they were limp to the point of being almost soggy. I hope they can get this sorted out because otherwise the dish was terrific. We will make a point of returning to Food Air L'Appart and bring our friends to discover both the wines and the food. Oh, and the wine bar features live music Wednesday evenings. read more

It is still 10/10 for a dating place! I've witnessed them grow from a small place that fits that barely fits 5 or 6 tables to a full-scale restaurant with a bar and even a second floor. So, congrats! Last time, we were the only people in the restaurant because it was a hot weekend and nobody wanted to go out. They allowed my date to play the piano which was a heartwarming moment. The staff are all French people with a flair of accents, which makes the food more authentic. One time the server carried a water bottle with custom-made stickers on it. I love their energy! The duck confit has been on the menu long enough for me to keep ordering. And the Burgundy snails are to die for with the options of 3 or 6 (I think). My date tried the snails for the first time and he loved it. They would update the dessert menu, so I would ask for a personal recommendation every time. The 2 day duck and sauce were savory, succulent, and the meat was crisp but falling off the bone. The cocktails were good and the wine selection was mostly European. Staff and owner spoke French which was fun to continue to practice my langue français. They only recently opened. Decor and ambiance was not over the top but nice, relaxing, and comfortable. Very busy with people eating and coming and going to pick up wine or have a drink. Spot is a bit hard to find hidden in the pass through retail area between Spring and Broadway. The ambiance is fantastic, the staff is overrun and under serves you. The food is good with some things being very good. But it's not worth coming for brunch. They had great outdoor music but unfortunately indoors much of the food you're paying for as part of brunch is mostly gone or in disarray. The crepes were so so, the omelette not so good and very runny, but the quiche and croissants were very good. But honestly I just spent over 100 and it wasn't worth it. The live music was the really good thing and thank god that wasn't a surcharge. All told I wish they'd let me choose what I want to eat and not force a buffet on me. Went to this spot with my brother. Make reservations people! Luckily we had reservations and only waited a few minutes for our table. Once settled, two servers tag team and it felt like we were well taken care of from the time we sat down to when I paid the bill. We ordered escargot and garlic bread for apps, amazing especially if you're a garlic lover! I had the scallops over butternut squash and it was cooked beautifully. The ambiance is very cozy even though all the tables were full. There's a window into the kitchen and a tv monitor for a firsthand look at the chef creating his masterpieces. I decided to start doing Yelp reviews and although I came here last year in November, I knew that this was the first place I had to review because of the fantastic food I had this night with my girlfriend. We had grilled octopus and escargot as our starters. I didn't know octopus could taste this good. I had octopus at another place a few days before this and the ends were really chewy and rubbery, while this place had tender and flavorful octopus in every bite. They really knew how to treat their octopus. I thought that all the cooking shows I've watched were exaggerating how delicious food can be when treated the right way, but this experience really proved that to be true. It was my first time having escargot, and it went great with the bread. For our mains, I had duck confit with pears in a honey mustard sauce, with a parsnip puree on the side. My girlfriend had scallops with risotto. The duck was a little salty but was the perfect pairing with the creamy and light parsnip puree that had a hint of sweetness. Together, they made a great dish that I couldn't stop eating even though I still felt full from the ramen I had in the afternoon. My girlfriend kept raving about the parsnip puree, and she had all the right to, because it was really the best thing I've ever had. My hand kept moving to scoop up more of it even after I was full. I hope one day I can make parsnip puree that was that good. As for dessert, unfortunately we didn't have any, because we were too full to have any. When we ordered, we wanted to get dessert but we were recommended to not get it just in case we were too full, and in the end, we were really too full to get it. A near perfect French bistro. We last went on a Saturday evening. We were greeted promptly in a welcoming manner. Service was spot on, friendly, knowledgeable and not intrusive. The onion and shallot soup was impressive. The broth was a perfect blast of umami to go with the cheese and bread. My son, who is a picky eater, loved every drop of the cheese plate. The cheeses were well selected and the accompaniments were fresh. The duck confit never disappoints, it's so good that it keeps me from trying their other entrees. Profiteroles for dessert were very refreshing on a summer evening, not too sweet and a good size for sharing. Bar offerings were equally excellent, the mint julep was outstanding and the server's wine selection for the duck was perfect. The setting is relaxed and the service unhurried.
