Apps: Crab Cake ($28)- one portion but shareable and tasty Burgundy Escargots ($28) - very tasty, came w/ fresh baguette perfect to dip in the garlic butter Boston Lettuce ($17) - classic butter lettuce with mustard dressing Entrees: Trout Almondine ($42) - fish was lovely, still had a good amount of oil on the plate when my mom requested to have it made w/ less oil Steak Frites ($43) & side of au poivre sauce ($4) - steak was cooked perfectly, but a bit heavy on the salt for the fries Chicken Cordon Bleu ($38) - chicken was flavorful w/ the ham & cheese; my family felt that the mashed potatoes that it came w/ tasted ok Desserts: Complimentary cookies for my birthday! So very disappointing... Brought my girlfriend here for a birthday dinner, and I'm genuinely disappointed. Reminded me why I leave reviews. Currently up at 5am with stomach discomfort from this meal. Let's start with the food: Appetizers: French Onion Soup - 2/10 (GF rating 7/10) I've had this before and didn't care for it--tastes like watery broth with onion, soggy croutons, and cheese. For ~$25, not worth it. Girlfriend thought it was one of the better ones she's had, mainly for texture. Escargot - 2/10 (GF rating 4/10) Not my thing, but the sauce was weak. I've had better at Le Bouchon in Chicago. Baguette was fine but underwhelming. Girlfriend said it was okay, biggest escargot she's had, but also lacking flavor. Serving in shells was nice. Crab cake - 1/10 (GF rating 1/10) Just bad. Rubbery texture, hard to cut, not the usual flaky crab cake. Inside lacked flavor. Sauce was good, dill helped slightly. For ~$28 for one, avoid completely. Mains: Steak frites - 2.5/10 (GF rating 3/10) Cooked medium. Meat quality was bad--very chewy. Ate one piece. GF didn't like it either. Sauce was herby and buttery but underwhelming. Fries were good, large portion, no proper sauce pairing. Big Mec 4/10 (GF rating: 2/10) Basically a burger with homemade A1 sauce. Not asked for temp; came medium, which doesn't work for thin patties. Chewy and forgettable. Wouldn't improve much even cooked better. Sauce was decent for fries (which were good). GF said it tasted like A1. Better off getting a Big Mac from McDonalds and saving money. Dessert (WOW, IN A GOOD WAY) Chocolate soufflé - 7.5/10 (GF rating 10/10) Really good. GF would come back just for this. Great crust, gelato, and chocolate sauce. Slightly spongey inside for me, but still very good. Crème Brûlée - 8.5/10 (GF rating 6/10) Excellent. Crunchy top, very creamy base. GF just doesn't like this dessert in general. Highly recommend. BIRTHDAY COOKIES - 6.5/10 It was my gfs birthday and we were charged $6 for cookies we didn't order. Decent cookies, slightly salty. Charging for this is ridiculous--should be complimentary, especially after ~$250+. Service - 7/10 Started slow, waited a while to order while others were checked on first. After ordering, service improved a lot: attentive, refills, clearing dishes, friendly staff. Ambiance Quaint, not loud, small seating area. Easy to talk. Outdoor seating available but near a busy road. Price Overpriced. Apps ~$26, mains ~$42, drinks expensive. Bill was ~$260 before tip. TL; DR Service was fantastic and attentive, restaurant ambiance and decor were great, food was decent, but not out of this world. While I can't fully say the value was there given the prices, we enjoyed our brunch. Portions were decently sized, and none of us finished our dishes. We had: * Steak frites: This was good overall, fries were nice, crispy, and salty * Hash brown chilaquiles: Loved this take on chilaquiles - note this is on the spicier side, but not overwhelmingly spicy * French toast: This was good; I wish the outside was a bit "crispier", but it was good overall, and I like they served the sauce on the side for you to add as much or as little as you like * Smoked salmon tartine: This was good, but nothing too special (though my son really enjoyed it) There is plenty of metered street parking during the time we went. After we left, we noticed they started valet parking services (this was on a Saturday). It seems like a good spot for ambiance and to hang out in both a large or small group. We love this place. This is our second time here, and we are just blown away by the delicious food! This time, we got a smattering of items and shared it family style. We got the Leeks, Hamachi Crudo, the Endive Salad, and the 8 oz flank steak. All were absolutely delicious but the stand out dish of the night was the LEEKS! I recommend if they are showcasing different tasting items or "snacks" (you'll see this to the side of the menu), give them a try. The leeks were phenomenal (see picture). They were so tender and the flavor was incredible, fresh and also buttery at the same time. Must try! Although it may be only temporarily on the menu. Their cocktails were delicious as well--we got the pear cocktail and the house Old Fashioned. Very well balanced. For dessert we got the chocolate soufle, but sadly we were disappointed in this. It looked so delicious but it tasted a tad bit bitter and not sweet enough. We wouldn't order it again, but we have confidence their other desserts are very delightful. Had a dining credit to burn before the end of the year and figured why not (finally) give Petit Trois' famous Big Mec a try. A couple years ago, we went to Chez Maggy in Denver and learned from our server that Petit Trois in LA is also Chef Ludo's restaurant. While many of the menu items are the same, the price difference between Chez Maggy and Petit Trois is crazy to witness. $18 for French onion soup vs $25 in LA. I mean honestly $25 for this soup is just plain ridiculous. We ordered: - Bread & butter: was pleasantly surprised by a crispy, crusty but not hard baguette and rich delicious French butter - Belgian Endive Salad: reminiscent of a Caesar with kind of an anchovy tapenade/pesto (idk what you call it) underneath--endive was crunchy and so refreshing in a light sherry vinaigrette, a perfect balance to the richness of everything else - Steak Frites: the bavette was cooked well but there was way too much bearnaise on top - Big Mec: huge, rich burger and the chopped steak patty had a very interesting texture, and delicious with the bordelaise sauce - Banana Cream Pie: yummy pie crust and a pleasantly but not too sweet banana cream and sliced fresh bananas Place was pretty packed on a Saturday evening and has a nice French bistro vibe. My fiancé and I have seen so many posts on instagram about the "Big Mec" being one of the best burgers in LA. It did not disappoint! He said it was one of the best burgers he's ever had, and I have to agree with him. I got the branzino which was amazing, and the tuna tartare was also very good. Both were quite sweet for our taste. But the food...The FOOD is incredible. Had the butter lettuce salad (yummiest dressing ever) steak frites and duck confit. Chocolate soufflé for dessert. At first I was dubious about the Vegan gelato, but then I understood it would've been too rich with full fat regular ice cream. Everything was so flavorful, perfectly cooked and balanced. Obviously Ludo Lefevre knows what he's doing. My only note is that the bar should be up to the same level as the food. Had a great dinner to celebrate Valentines! We shared the Belgian endive salad and each got an entree: the double cheeseburger and the trout. Staff suggested a few other good choices too. The place is pretty cozy inside with a lot of two-person tables set up all around the perimeter of two dining areas and also outside patio seating area. While the place was full it wasn't loud as we could still hear ourselves and just barely hear our neighbors. We heard about the Big Mec double cheeseburger and wanted to try that! It was quite saucy so must eat with knives and fork. The fries were a good accompaniment to dial down the flavors a bit. The trout was great. It had a nice crust and was fork tender. I am not the first Yelper to extol the virtues of the Croque Madame at Petit Trois -- in fact, I'm probably not even the one-thousandth -- but I will add my voice nonetheless. It is a decadent lunch for sure, the thickness of the bread making it seem almost like a double-decker, though it's not. And some might bemoan that it is served with salad rather than frites, but trust me: frites would be a bridge too far. Built on fresh-baked bread, with flavorful French Ham, melted Gruyère Cheese and a thick Mornay Sauce, the sandwich is a robust and filling midday meal. Topped with a perfectly cooked sunny side-up egg (the addition of which is what transforms a monsieur into a madame), the sandwich ticks every box as an indulgent and satisfying treat only the French know how to divine out of such relatively commonplace ingredients. As to the aforementioned "missing frites" -- well -- there are many places around town that do serve a side of frites with their croques, but none are quite so inherently rich; here, the salad's lemony dressing, and the brininess of a few attendant gherkins, provide a much needed acidic contrast that allows you to enjoy the sandwich without feeling overwhelmed. Great music, lovely decorations and the vibe is overall very relaxed and nice. First time today. We did the prix fixe lunch special. Bibb lettuce salad, steak frites, and I did the cream puff (my friend opted for the mousse). Salad was good - basic and French. Steak was overly oily and I didn't love the seasoning. Too much - it felt like it was covered in something almost similar to chimichurri. We also weren't checked on for a good ten minutes after our food was dropped off, so by time we could request ketchup and garlic aioli, the fries were cooled off. Overall pretty good! We shared the endive salad (amazing dressing/toasted walnuts) and the steak tartare entree (good, but the shallot were cut too large for my taste). Overall I think the portions are very nice. I also had an individual duck confit, whcih was a highlight-- not only was the duck delicious but it came with incredible roasted potatoes and garlic confit. My cocktail was pretty good, but not incredible. The wine is overpriced. I wish I had room left to try the chocolate souffle-- it looked great at the table next to us. They have valet parking for I think $15 but I didn't find a reason to do that, given metered parking all overy. They did accommodate us and then changed the opentable reservation when we were running 10 min late and called, unfortunately they then made us sit awkwardly by the bar for about 35 min which was a negative. read more

Super cute spot in the valley. I really enjoyed the French Onion soup but $25 for a soup is unheard of. I wasn't a fan of the steak frites at all, the sauce overpowered the flavor and it was not my favorite. They also don't do modifications. I really enjoyed the crème brûlée. read more

Went here after an exploring the Getty Museum and there was a bit of a wait despite having a reservation. Make sure to check if you're reserving an indoor table because those fill up quickly and you could be left with an outdoor seating. Our server, Ashley, is nice and attentive. We started off with the baguette which was delicious and the butter that came with it as well. The mussels were cooked with a decent white sauce though a bit tiny and pricy for what was offered. Big Mec is the signature dish of the restaurant and after tasting it, I can see why it's popular on social media! Steak frites was average and I wish the sides were more varied especially since the mussels also came with fries. Having a veggie option would complement and balance many dishes in my opinion. I didn't realize when I made the reservation through Open Table, it was for outside dining. When we got to the restaurant, the hostess reminded me that we were dining outside, but I asked if there was anyway we could dine inside because it was about 55 degrees outside. Unfortunately, she was not able to accommodate us, but luckily they were able to turn on the heat lamp. We kind of felt isolated sitting outside because there was no one else outside except for another couple sitting on the other side, who eventually left. There was a homeless man that walked by us and luckily he didn't bother us. Our server, Ashley, was great. She kept on coming outside and checking up on us. That definitely made us feel a little less lonely. We ordered the French onion soup and Escargot to start. Then the steak frites and duck confit for our mains. We also ordered the Canary & Old Fashion while we waited for our food. Both drinks were pretty good, but a little pricey. They use the proper ice cube for both drinks and they have a pretty nice bar inside. The French onion and escargot came out with a French loaf. I really liked the soup, it was beefy and cheesy, though there was a lot of bread in the bowl. But at $25, it's pretty pricey. The escargot was a little bland. Could have used a little bit more salt. The bread helped to sop up the broth from the soup and butter/olive oil garlic from the escargot. But again, at $28, it's a bit pricey for an appetizer. Our mains came out and my steak was overpowered with the pepper rub they used. Though, the middle was a little bland. A little bit of finishing salt would have helped a lot. I was not a big fan of the fries as the texture felt like they were old fries that got re-fried again and not freshly made. I could be wrong, but that was the texture I got. Not sure, but it did taste like it was cooked in fat or something similar. The duck was tender with crispy skin, but was also bland. Overall, for what they charged, I expected the food to taste better. One other thing is that they charge $15 for valet parking behind the restaurant. We were able to find street parking a block over and since it was after 6pm, it was free parking. read more

Reviews have said the Big Mec burger is too expensive, but I think $40 is appropriate. It's very big and very good, and not a typical burger you can find elsewhere. It was my favorite part of the meal. The escargot was also fantastic, they were large and tasty and perfectly seasoned. I am usually not a fan but these were worth getting. Chicken liver mousse was good too, but typical. My wife got the 8oz filet (not pictured). She said it was far too peppery. I tried a few bites and enjoyed it (tender, cooked perfectly, and I tend to use a lot of pepper), but I can see how it could be rendered almost inedible for someone who is sensitive to pepper. The sundae is interesting. I thought it was chocolate, pistachio, and vanilla, but it seems like the center scoop was some kind of berry sorbet which I did not like because I didn't think it paired well with the other gelatos. I really don't understand the negative reviews here. Although the vibes may not be quite the same as the original location with the special charm and ambience, here, the service and food are still spectacular. I stopped by Friday night to have a solo dinner at the bar. The hostess was super kind and let me know I would be the first in line but I just had to wait for someone to leave, and she kept checking on the bar to see if anyone left. I eventually took an open seat and the bartender was very attentive, cleaning my area, asking if I needed anything, and making sure I was keeping well. I ordered an Old Fashion to start and this was a very solid version of it. Crisp, bold, and made perfectly. Now the star of the night - Steak aux poivres. The beautiful filet was cooked perfectly. Charred so well and cooked right to medium as requested. The sauce is creamy, peppery, and savory. I have a couple of hard stops when it comes to French food: #1 I don't want chicken liver mousse served on toast. The mousse should be on the side (to prevent sogging) and it should be served with ample baguette. The mousse at petit trois is an enormous portion. And the bread to mousse ratio favors mousse--extremely. You expect mousse to be rich but you don't expect it to be cloying and unctuous, which this is. I couldn't finish even half of it. #2 paying $10 for baguette is wild and I had to do it twice because the bread was soggy from the caked-on chicken liver mousse and the steak tartare comes with fries (that aren't very good--a bit starchy/sandy) I will say that the baguette is nice-- great shape, warm, and all the things you expect of a good baguette. The butter is also lovely. Mistral will not charge for bread (like most restaurants in France). Their portions are also reasonable and their steak tartare is superior in complexity of flavor. I do love that you can sit outside on Ventura Blvd at Petit Trois and the sommelier is friendly and knowledgeable. I noticed that Petit Trois has an Aspen location now.
