    Charred Sweet Potato Chaat
    Mike A.

Brick Lane in the Arts District is a great spot if you're looking for Indian food with a modern twist. It's definitely more upscale and creative than your typical curry house. We ordered family-style, which was the perfect way to try a bunch of different dishes from Chef Sanjay Rawat. The cocktails were fantastic, and the food was a fun mix of traditional Indian flavors and creative new takes on classic dishes. My favorite of the night was the Charred Sweet Potato Chaat, which reminded me of a mix between pani puri and bhel puri. The Boti Kabab was another standout--the steak was incredibly tender and packed with flavor. Some of the other dishes we tried were the Paneer Keema Saag, Hyderabadi Mushroom Dum Biryani, Grilled Branzino, Applewood Smoked Butter Chicken, Awadhi Lamb Rack, and Hara Lasooni Paneer. Everything was delicious, and there were still plenty of dishes on the menu we want to come back and try. This is definitely a place to go with a few people so you can order a variety of dishes and share. The service was excellent. My wife has a seafood allergy, and the staff was very attentive about letting her know which dishes to avoid and making sure she felt comfortable ordering. Overall, this is a great romantic date-night spot or somewhere to celebrate a special occasion. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back with family and friends.

Heard about this restaurant through Eater LA, so we made the drive (over an hour each way) hoping for a great family dinner. Unfortunately, it turned into one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in recent memory. We arrived promptly at 5:30 p.m. and were the only people there, yet the hostess told us our table needed to be prepared. Meanwhile, several other parties arrived and were seated immediately. At first, we assumed the delay was because we had our toddler with us, even though we had already explained we didn't need a high chair since he would stay in his stroller. But other families with toddlers and infants were seated without issue. Once seated, we ordered and were told it was best to place the full order at once so the chef could send dishes out "as he deemed fit." Our first entree arrived about 20 minutes later, followed by a very long gap before anything else appeared. After finishing the first dish, our plates and utensils were removed and never replaced. A server brought another entree to the table, realized we had no utensils, took the dish back to the kitchen, and asked someone to reset the table. When he returned, it turned out the dish wasn't even ours. By this point, our toddler was understandably getting restless. Anyone dining out with young children knows how much planning goes into making a meal out enjoyable including timing naps, snacks, activities, etc. We had now been sitting there for over an hour with little food and virtually no service. Eventually, we flagged down what appeared to be the head waitress and explained that we hadn't received attention or food in roughly 40 minutes. She apologized and assured us it would be corrected. Our waitress later returned looking nervous and apologized as well, but it was obvious the entire staff was disorganized. The kitchen also seemed painfully slow, as barely any food was leaving it. After yet another wait, our food finally arrived. We ate quickly and eventually had to walk to the host stand ourselves to pay because no one checked on us or brought the bill. The restaurant itself is aesthetically nice, though the surrounding area felt sketchy. More importantly, the food simply didn't justify the experience. Nothing we ordered was particularly memorable -- just expensive, fancy-plated Indian food. If you want truly outstanding wood-fired kebabs and incredible sauces, go to Saffy's instead. Fine dining is about more than presentation. You're paying for food, service, ambiance, and the overall experience. This place currently delivers none of those consistently. They either needed a proper soft opening with limited seating or a more streamlined prix fixe menu until the staff could handle service smoothly. Overall, a frustrating and expensive waste of what was supposed to be quality family time.

Had an incredible dinner at Brick Lane in the Arts District. Every dish was beautifully presented and packed with flavor, but the standouts for me were the Branzino, the banarasi aloo Kachori, Valencia Orange and Cardamon and the Elaichi Vesper cocktail. The Branzino was perfectly cooked, delicate, and flavorful, while the Kachori was a fantastic balance of textures and spices. The Elaichi Vesper was easily one of the most unique and well-crafted cocktails I've had in a long time.

    Hara Lasooni Paneer

Prompt, friendly host sat me at a great table! Sevice, friendly and knowledgeable. I'm not super familiar with Indian cuisine, and my server gave me some great recommendations I had Hara Lasooni Paneer: Layered charred cheeses with a mixture of dates and pine nuts over a shishito pepper cream and topped with a charred tomato chutney. Amazing! Also exceptional the Lucknowi Lamb Galouti and Orange Cardamom Tart. Yum!

The food was quite good! Although they charged me and extra $9 for a side of rice, even though my dish came with rice. The place just opened, so giving them grace. Love the space--last time i visited it was a different restaurant. Industrial, chic vibe. Went for a girls dinner and they gave us complimentary champagne which was really nice.

Visited this place on Friday, good to see a new high end Indian restaurant in LA. The service is quick and warm, host and waiters were all very nice. They've some classic dishes with an upscale twist -- keeping the spice game still honest. Nothing feels watered down or "Americanized." I ordered the Aloo kachori, Branzino, lal mass and chickens tikka. We absolutely loved the food. The Laal Maas and the Branzino are the absolute stars of the dinner - Fall-off-the-bone lamb neck with that amazing rich sauce. As for the branzino- Rarely do you see a whole fish dish at an Indian restaurants. A little on the pricey side but absolutely love the food.

Delicious food, beautiful ambiance. Service is warm and kind. We will be back again! On top of the garlic naan and two entrees, we tried all three desserts, all not photoed unfortunately, and they were to die for!!

We had their Chicken Tikka and Butter Chicken with Basmati Rice and Naan. For starters, the food was amazing, and the service, too, was amazing. Both easily ranked at the top of what I've had. The pricing, however, is definitely steeper. Most Indian food spots serve complimentary naan or have rice included or at a small surcharge. Here, however, it's like $6... each. And this is on top of a price that is already above average. Outside of the nickel-and-dime pricing, the ambiance was nice and quiet. The water was also very tasty and served in a jar that was easy to refill, and our server took really good care of us.

My friend got Indian food a few weeks ago so I felt inspired to get some too (or Pakistani food,…read morenot sure). Regardless, I've been here a few times and have always enjoyed it. I love how big the naan is that they give you. They make it fresh too. Even though I've tried a bunch of their skewers, this time I tried the fish karahi, which came with my choice of naan or rice. I chose naan. It was really good but it was a little too spicy for me. The cashier told me they could add yogurt the next time around. However, what really stood out is how the fish was cooked. I feel in American restaurants, fish is just cooked in a way that makes it just taste ok. However, at like Chinese restaurants, they really know how to make the fish taste amazing and have it be so plump and juicy. They make their fish like that here! The juicy and plump way where you're just like, "Wow I just want to keep eating this!" I also got a chicken roll too which is fried and crispy. Good appetizer. They also have water for free here too but I didn't see the dispenser so I just brought something from my car in. The ambiance is cozy here. Nice seating area. Worth visiting if you want really good LA Indian food and haven't been spoiled by extraordinary SF Indian food.
