The day was sunny and beautiful in early November. We happened upon this lovely small restaurant near the Trevi, but far enough away to avoid the big crowds. We wanted to sit outside. The staff advised us the wait would be about 10 minutes. The next thing we know, they are moving 2 small tables from inside the restaurant to the outside along with the other tables and we were sat almost immediately! Very accommodating! Grazie! I was here years ago and they had a beautiful menu with many different sauces like a walnut Alfredo. I've sown out side and in the basement, it was an awesome experience. It is nothing like it used to be. I would avoid it now. There are many more high quality places in the area. The pasta sauce lacked flavor, if there was any sauce at all, the menu was one page now with half of them described. Very disappointed bringing a friend there. read more

My mom and I stopped here on our last day in Rome for lunch. We sat outside and the waiter was super nice and quick. I ordered the Bolognese and my mom ordered the carbonara. Both were tasty and fresh. We also ordered a dessert, (don't remember what it was), but I remember it being tasty as well. Finally getting around to posting a review for one of our favourite super informal pasta restaurants close to Trevi Fountain. It is slightly strange to eat in a lane with cars passing by your chair, but this type of restaurant is typical of old Rome. Our family makes a point of dining here each trip to Rome, at least once, as the pasta is pretty good and they can accommodate a large group if you call ahead - we are often 12-14. Cacio e Pepe, spaghetti bolognese, saltimbocca, pizza - all good. Like many places in Italy the service is hit and miss, we've had both good and fair experiences here, but this is not fine dining. Been coming here for many, many years, easily one of my favourite restaurants in Rome. The first place I remember sampling amatriciana and a reason I quickly loved that style of pasta. The food is very good. Get the tris triple pasta for maximum sampling. Wide selection. Good portions. Very, very tasty. Pizza and spaghettis very on point and a highlight. A fine place for larger groups. The only reason it doesn't rank higher is because the service is surprisingly slow. Have also heard mixed things about some servers "accidentally" mixing up bills, so always double check your receipts. read more

I don't like bashing places. I like to give my full honest review as a foodie. Overall experience here was a 2.5/5. Taste: 3/5 was about 50/50. My sister's mushroom pasta was amazing. However I had the cacio e pepe that was way too salty almost inedible. Probably the worst thing I ate during my entire trip to its Italy. Service: .5/5 There was no friendliness or greeting. Simply, "you want to eat? Sit here ok." We ordered their house wine which I would not recommend. We asked for wine glasses and we're told "No! Drink from cup". Our server made us drink our wine from colored plastic cups while everyone around us drank their house wine from wine glasses. Very very dissatisfied. Ambience: 4/5 If you do dine here, sit outside and enjoy the beautiful street of Rome. Inside is ok, I prefer outside simply. Overall take: There are hundreds of great local restaurants that want your business and will welcome you warmly and kindly. I agree with what another reviewer said. My husband had the Cacio de pepe and he normally likes salty food but said it was inedible. I had a sauce with bacon and cheese and it was very good. The service was horrible. The waitress was rude and when we went to pay - she said they only take cash and was extremely annoyed with us. We went into the restaurant and they gladly took our credit card. It was like all the staff were annoyed at the tourists despite that they make a living by tourists. read more

I cannot quite understand why this place rates the way it does, because we had a lovely experience and probably our favorite food in Rome. One thing I liked about L'Archetto is its lack of an American menu/translation. A lot of places around here have English menus, which tells me they are mostly catering toward tourist crowds versus locals. It's located a couple of blocks from the Trevi fountain. Far enough to keep the price low and a ton of tourists away, but close enough if I have a desire for more I would go back. We ordered two dishes, one called the Trevi, which was a light red sauce, bacon, and zucchini tossed in spaghetti. The other was the spaghetti vodka. Both were absolutely perfect - sauced well, al dente, great flavor. The draft beer was okay, similar to a bud light (meh) but the house white wine was delectable. Wonderful spot for a meal. Ordered the carbonara, pizza with egg, mushroom, artichoke and prosciutto, and side of veggies. Everything was so so good. The carbonara had a rich smokiness to it but not heavy. And the pizza had the right balance of flavors and the crust was crispy yet with a satisfying chewiness. This restaurant is Italy in a nutshell. Everything you could think of or ask for out of an Italian restaurant. One of my favorite spots I visited while in Italy for 2 weeks. This spaghetteria literally has every type of spaghetti and sauce you could ever want. From the arancini, to the red wine, everything was excellent. The tight quarters with loud conversations in Italian, truly made my love for Italy grow. It's surprising reading all the negative reviews of this place because I would have to respectfully disagree. Granted, the menu has about any spaghetti flavor combination known to man, and the food was good - but not the "best" pasta in Rome by a long shot. Portions are fair, the service was very good, but I think it was very expensive, given the plate of food I actually received. I like the outside space, but it is very noisy and cars are a constant issue when trying to have a conversation. Agreed with some of the reviews, they advertise taking credit but when presented with my card my waiter said they only accept cash. read more

This place was heat. I think I might have gotten a different pasta than the one that I originally ordered, but it was completely irrelevant. Whatever I did get absolutely hit the spot. Dude serving us was super nice and my mom got a huge pizza for like 10 euros. I obviously polished off the remains of her pizza(which was also amazing) and left the platter shimmering in the Roman sunlight. This restaurant was a fabulous experience as far as food is concerned, but the service was absolutely horrid. We were on our way to the Trevi Fountain (not knowing that it was under renovation) and decided to lunch before getting there. Seeing people sipping and eating made us hungrier so we checked Trip Advisor for the nearest non-touristy restaurant and this place popped up. We did not have to wait long for our table which is always a delight. We were led through what seemed like a dungeon to our table. The restaurant is very cozy since its main seating area is below ground. You will literally smell what the other table is eating and your tummy will rumble. I know because that happened to me! We were provided with a huge menu, with extensive pasta choices. I felt like I was going through Cheesecake Factory's menu and was having a real hard time deciding what to get. I finally decided on Sultani. My friends went with Casara (shrimp and vegetables), Re-faruk (a very buttery pasta and the star of the table) and Bunny (a tuna based pasta). Did I mention that you will see so many options that your brain will do somersaults? So, after placing the order I changed my mind and asked the waiter to get me Casara as well. Our waiter gave me such a huge scowl that it was confirmed that he loathed me. I had been eying the bread on the other table but after hearing him tell the lady "why bread? bread makes you fat!" I decided to skip on asking for bread from the waiter who already hated my guts! The verdict on the wine was that it was ehhh-ok. Thank God my coke was chilled. I would highly recommend this restaurant on account's of food. The pasta dishes were delicious and fresh. Excellent dinner! What separates this restaurant from many others in Rome is the service. Staff was very friendly and actually seemed like they wanted you there. We enjoyed the food especially the panna cotta for dessert. The servers here were very authentic and this is an important attribute especially in a city notorious for bad service. Totally decent and acceptable Italian dining. This place is in an alley and a little off the main beat. But that makes for more pleasurable and serine experience. Nice to be a stones through away from all the busy tourist traffic that surrounds this place. Our food was just fine and tasted well enough. The service although not poor was a bit lacking. Two semi uninterested waiters stood most of their time in front of the entrance playing with their cell phones. Oj yeah I forgot to mention but will now in my update, when we received the check after our meal it was entirely scribbled down on a small piece of paper by hand. Let me start by saying great was food, from pasta to pizza. The cooks who create such wonderful masterpieces perfect the Italian cuisine. It's sad, because of the *hitty service we got, I give this place only 2 stars. Our beers were brought to us warm, we were ignored throughout the meal and were turned down/ blown off for pictures to be taken of our party since we did not order dessert/coffee. We asked two different waiters to have our pictures taken and there answer was, "give me one second" and they never returned...just like I will never return. This hole in the wall establish would thrive just by word of mouth and hopefully they turn their act around to serve another tourist who is thriving for authentic Italian food. They have something special but their attitude sucks and they are lucky to get the 2 stars I'm offering. My suggestion...look elsewhere. There are better places with a more hospitable atmosphere. During a ten day theology study-abroad trip, our clan went to this restaurant twice. Utilizing a limited amount of dining opportunities in such a culinary capital speaks volumes to how wonderful this spaghetteria was. After receiving raving reviews from trusted, multiple sources, there was no other choice than to eat the spaghetti with vodka sauce. Although pasta from almost anywhere in Italy is leagues above commercialized American noodles, L'Archetto's was al dente and satiating as ever. Get wine instead of water because the price difference is minimal. Another menu recommendation from a friend is the Nucler Bomb; I forget what was in it but the bold name should be enticing enough. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating to our American absence of manners and language comprehension. Although the currency conversion always drains your bank account sooner, the menu prices are affordable in comparison to neighboring joints. We were low on cash and being very careful to use the CC only, but they pulled this BS on us and took our last 50 euros for a mediocre meal. My first day in Rome during the walking tour I was on, we passed by the area & our tour guide specially pointed out this place tucked away on a 'quieter' side street. He told us that they had pages and pages of different kinds of spaghetti & was a popular spot with locals as well as tourists. After the tour, a group of us decided to have dinner here. The upstairs dining area is small, but it has more space downstairs. Cozy/casual. Was very busy so it took them a while to set up for 8 of us. We had a glass of wine each & an entree, approx $18-20/head. We got the spaghetti with pesto, delicious. The menu is pretty extensive, with lots of variety in sauces to go with the pastas. Reservations might be recommended on weekends. I also stopped by for lunch one day & had a pizza, which was different from what we are used to in the U.S. but very good though & fresh ingredients. I've learnt NOT to compare the service in Europe to what we are used to in bigger cities in the U.S., it's different. More laid back & relaxed, they won't hover.
