Worst 6 euro I spent during my stay in Paris! The falafel balls were premade and sitting in an open container by the open takeaway window. When I got my sandwich, it was already cold, so they obviously didn't give a hoot about quality, and are resting on their laurels. Kinda funny story: While debating a sandwich, this American couple waiting outside ensured me, "This is the BEST falafel!" Curious, I said, "Oh, really, how is that?" Couple: "Well we haven't eaten here yet, but Lenny Kravtiz said so!" [Eyebrows raised]: "Because Lenny Kravitz said so, it's the best?" ... Can't blame them because everybody and their mother (alright just my guidebooks and food columnist David Lebovitz) mentioned this place to me. TLDR: Unless you can make sure it's going to be fresh falafel, skip this place and go somewhere else in the Marais for a fraction of the cost. Stumbled into L'As du Fallafel while taking a stroll along Rue des Rosiers. It was full of American tourists like myself, so I thought this may just be another tourist trap, but I guess I'll give it a try. We ordered a falafel sandwich at 7.50€ (it's a little cheaper if you just order outside but I prefer to eat at a table) and a shawarma sandwich at 10€. Our food came about 2 minutes after we ordered. Very impressive! First thing I noticed was that both pitas were packed tight and overflowing with stuffing - cucumber, eggplant, tahini (SO GOOD), the works! Just looking at it made my mouth water a little bit. First bite into the falafel, I died and went to food heaven. No really. I can't even begin to describe how amazing it was. The shawarma is really good too, but I would choose the falafel over it every time. Definitely the best I've ever had! We were so impressed with the scrumptious food and quick service that we came back two days later, and our experience was just as good as the first. Where do I start or more like how do I stop!!!!! The food was amazing. The lines were impressive. Can't believe how many people were waiting in line for a Falafel. We got there and my husband started to speak Hebrew to the door attendant. We were determined to go inside for a late lunch. It was a much larger menu. The guy was super nice. Told us it would be a 45 minute wait so we took a ticket and walked around the area which was a definitely pleasure. Came back and only could say best Chicken Liver I have had in a restaurant just because my husband makes an amazing chicken liver. yup, they hit it out of the park. i had previously thought of chez hanna as my go-to parisian falafel joint, but after a trip to LAdF, consider me a convert. nestled in the pita was a sort of orgy of bright flavors and textures: steamy fried falafel balls, pickled cabbage, tart, creamy tahini, eggplant...and two homemade chili sauces on the table? hello, er, bonjour? i also recommend the citronnade...sweet and tart, it tastes like lemons actually taste. in case you've forgotten. plus the guys that work here speak a lot of different languages and know just how to agitate you by answering hebrew with french, english with hebrew, and french with a nod and a grunt. tell them you work with lenny kravitz, too. apparently they jock him pretty hard here. read more

Came here because of all the yelp reviews during my little trip to Paris and the Yelpers were right!! BEST fallafel I've ever had! The Fallafel balls were very flavorful and they smothered the pita in sauce. I had a bite of the bf's lamb but i still think the fallafel is the best! NOTE they're closed friday and saturday nights! We didn't know so we had to go to the fallafel shop next door. They were good but not AS GOOD. AFTER you eat there walk down towards the left alley and get a fantastic crepe! JUST AS GOOD AS IT SEEMS. I am not a big fan of fallafel, but with all the reviews, I just had to check in out on our honeymoon this last April. Wow. Coming here for lunch was a crazy experience. There were a million people and everyone around was bustling. Luckily, we were able to find a table in the back. It was pretty crammed, but it sort of lent itself to the atmosphere. Families laughed, couple's shouted, and we just soaked it all in. Around us, there were plenty of celebrity photos and my silly husband took a picture of one of them that contained the famous Lenny Kravitz. We started with the mushroom hummus. Instantly we were addicted. He was moaning, "OMG. We don't have anything like this back in the bay area." Soon we gobbled it all up and were quite impressed. Then, I ordered the fallafel wrap and he chose the shwarma. We spent the next few minutes just eating - sans talking. Between the freshness, blend of flavors and spices - we finished our last bites in bliss. My husband still raves about 'that fallafel place in Paris'. I always reply, "I know honey, you miss it. There are two wait lines. If you are looking directly at the restaurant, the line on the right is for dine-in only. The line on the left is for take-outs. if you want take-out, you can, 1) wait in the left line and someone will come take your order and $ in exchange for a receipt, or 2) order and pay an employee standing between the two lines...get the receipt before standing in line. On a weekday lunch hour, we waited about 25 minutes in line before we got to the front of the line. We handed over the receipt and watched the assembly our falafel/shawarma. Both were the best I've ever had .... far superior than anything I've tasted here in the States! Best falafel I've ever had in my life!!! I've had variety of falafels in the US but this one tops it all! It's so flavorful with perfect crunch to it. If it's your first time, make sure you try the house special falafel sandwich. It's totally worth the wait and the walk to get there! It has perfect proportion of falafel, veggies, and amazing sauces. Their white sauce and hot sauce (both red and green) are delicious!!! I wanted to go back to try their turkey or chicken/lamb sandwich but didn't have time. I will definitely go back here next time I visit Paris! Oh, and the sandwich goes really well with their French fries too so make sure you get it! The wait was NOT long at all. We were seated within 10 minutes and fun server came by to take our order almost immediately. If you get the food togo (take out), it's about 1-2 euros cheaper than eating it at the restaurant. Yeah so I saw one of the guys spit in the pita he was preparing for the woman in front of me in line. Like, not even secretly, she was on her phone when he tried getting the ticket from her, and then after I nudged her to give it to him, she got back on her phone (aka looked away) and the guy straight up just grabbed a pita and spit in it. Also the falafel is definitely 100% mediocre. I've been here a dozen times (today obvs being the last) and it's indistinguishable from any other mediocre falafel place I've been to anywhere in the world. I am a purist so I asked for my sandwich without all the extras which they so generously provide--cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes, even grilled eggplant. As a result, my sandwich was chock full of purely delicious falafels. Get on line, tell the guy what you want, pay for it, get a ticket in return and show your ticket to the food preparer. And don't forget to tell the server anything specific that you want because the ticket guy hasn't passed it on... it's up to you. Some servers speak English but why not try to order in French??? This is the best Falafel I have ever had, and that Lenny Kravitz has had, according to the sign outside. Avoid coming here on a weekend, as the lines will be massive. I advise getting the platter; two people can share it, and you get hummus, harissa and tahini on the side. The place often has huge lines outside at prime lunch and dinner hours. Do not be dismayed; most people are waiting for window service. Ask the employee at the door for table seating to eat faster. Expect inattentive service inside, even by Parisian standards. My boyfriend and I went here twice during our visit to Paris because it was so good. Both times, we got our food to go because we didn't want to wait in line to eat inside. On our first visit, we got one falafel pita and one shawarma pita and shared both. The shawarma was good, but the falafel was great. I honestly don't care for falafel normally, but we're foodies and enjoy trying famous places in various cities, so I put L'As du Fallafel on the list since I'd seen it on TV so many times. Their falafel pita was really, really delicious. The falafel are cooked to perfection, not greasy at all, and quite tasty on their own. The pita is huge and filled to max capacity with veggies; the eggplant is delicious and the pickled veggies are a nice touch. Get the sauces! I got mine "a little spicy" and it was perfect. If I had access to this place all the time, I'd be getting their falafel pita at least once a week. If I ever find myself in Paris again, I will definitely be making a stop here. read more

Honestly, there's not a lot to be said about L'As du Fallafel that hasn't been said by anyone at this point. This is one of the de facto eating stops that shows up on just about every single "what do I eat in Paris?" list, and has like 2,500 positive reviews between Yelp and TripAdvisor. I knew that I was really eager to try it out for myself if it was as legendary as people made it sound, and I was fortunate enough to be somewhat within reasonable walking/training distance to it when I was in Paris. There's no direct metro stop, but it is within easy walking distance if anyone were to get off on the St. Paul stop off of the 1 line (gold). The area is a tight alley full of shops, restaurants and bars, and at least from what I saw, there are at least two other places advertising falafels; I've heard Chez Hanna is a strong competitor, but frankly it must suck to be the falafel place directly across the street from L'As du Fallafel; whereas L'As has a ridiculous line, not a soul in sight for them; they're probably perfectly good in their own right, but without the hype train like Lenny Kravitz proclaiming you the best in the world, it doesn't help. Anyway, I came on a Wednesday night, hoping that being a random weekday evening would lessen my chance of a long line, but nope, that's why it's silly to make assumptions. Thankfully, the longer of the two lines I saw was for those that wanted to dine in; I wasn't even aware that they had dining in as an option, as everything I had read was always in regards to the takeaway window for falafels. I ended up getting their traditional falafel; I'd read that many people thought their spices were too spicy, and I have to assert that everyone who said such is a tremendous sissy, or I really have that much of a higher threshold for spice. I'm not saying it wasn't delicious, but it certainly wasn't spicy. Overall, in my opinion, L'As du Fallafel lives up to the hype. It's a convenient place with workers who operate like well-practiced machines who take order and spit out orders at a breakneck pace. It was one of the cheapest food items I got while in Paris, yet one of the most satisfying. I can't say that I'm an expert on what makes the worlds greatest falafel, but I'd have a hard time disagreeing with Lenny Kravitz's assertion. read more

If you go to this place as soon as you land in Paris and there's a sign in the window saying "closed for two days", make sure you make the effort to go back in two days hoping it's open like we did. I know this place can get busy, but we went around noon and got a seat right away inside. Take a minute and sit down to eat, it's the unmessiest falafel sandwich you'll ever eat, but it's a big sandwich so I wouldn't take it to go. Falafel, Schwarma and fries are where it's at. Came on a Saturday (silly me), and it was closed, so went across the street to some "famous falafel place". It was alright. Came back on Monday thinking, might as well, but wasn't expecting anything mind blowing, after all, it's just a falafel right? WRONG. This falafel was truly beautiful. Surprisingly herbaceous (not in your face, it just tasted FRESH), and the accompanying veggies, hummus, harissa and tahini were so flavorful, without being overpowering. This is some high-quality stuff. You know they don't cut any corners on the ingredients. Get the platter. I was surprised to have eggplant thrown in, but actually really liked it - and says a lot since this vegetarian is not a fan of eggplant! I am so glad we made it here and that the reviews that led us here did not disappoint. The falafel here is good, but honestly I think Mi-Va-Mi across the street is better (and is where I usually go partially just because the line is usually so much shorter). I came here because it was late and my friend and I needed something quick and easy to eat. We were on Rue des Rosiers, and before we even got close to either falafel place, the guy working here accosted us asking if we wanted to eat in or take away. There was no line, so we decided to indulge him and placed our orders. Our food was good, but not the best. The eggplant had no taste at all, unlike the Mi-Va-Mi eggplant (I usually hate eggplant, but I always eat it there because it actually is really good), the veggies were ok, and the falafels were good. I asked for spicy sauce, which I never got. Overall, the falafel is fine (if you're in a hurry and there is no line). The Shawarma sandwich was excellent and very satisfying. Unless you have a big appetite the sandwich on its own should be more than enough to get you full. They have fresh everything- freshly deep fried, fresh veggies and the hot and white garlic sauce are reminiscent of a nova scotian donair. The pita itself is soft instead of the regular pita that places may or may not grill. hey...in fact..this is pretty much a nova Dcotian donair- this is why people love it. It isn't a standard middle eastern Falafel. It is delicious. 5.50 Euro for one is kind of pricey. But so is any other meal in Paris. I would eat another one if I were having a craving for good Nova Scotian Donair or Falafel- but I certainly would not go out of my way in PARIS for it. They are fast, efficient, and nice. It's long not because it's popular but because they give out one sandwich every 5 min. This is the pace even though they have you PREORDER and PREPAY. Yes, this place is touristy. Yes, it's like that for good reason. The first time I came, we sat inside and ordered a Shawarma and a Fallafel Special. My brother and I agreed that the Fallafel was the best we'd ever had. Coupled with an Israeli beer, we had a great time here. The next day, we crossed Paris just to get back here and have another Fallafel. They are super friendly, and even if the line looks long, you won't have to wait very much. The portions were quite big and the falafel balls themselves were tasty and fried to perfection, though I thought they could use a bit more spice. My BF says it doesn't quite live up to the falafel in Israel, but it's still better than what I can get in DC (sorry, Amsterdam Falafel).
