A charming restaurant with fairly good standard gourmet fare such as lamb chops and duck. While the outdoor seating in the Christmas-lit patio was a bit unstable, the potato gnocchi was delicious. My complaints aren't with the food or service. I would rate this place a good deal higher, but upon arriving home, saw that they double charged my card with two distinct amounts, which felt a little like active fraud by their staff (as a single amount charged twice would seem more noticeable and is easier to fight). That would reduce them a star at most, these things happen (though very rarely for me and I eat out at least 3-4 times a week in NYC). The other star is that the owner came out at the end of the night to another table, spoke to them, but kept lasciviously looking my fiance up and down. Fix those two small things and it is a five star experience. read more

We witnessed the complaining woman from 2 posts down from Orlando. She made an incredible scene at the restaurant in front of many patrons after completing her cocktails and celebration. I was impressed at how the staff handled her when they actually accommodated her special request. We actually bonded with our neighboring tables at how foolish she sounded for she complained after they accommodated her and she clearly had enjoyed her time there. We are food connoisseurs and try all the upscale MV restaurants and L'etoile is by far the best quality of food and incredible service. Highly recommend if you want fine dining. read more

Very good food. Edgartown prices. We had the chef's tasting menu ($100). Everything was exceptionally delicious - from the oysters, to the fois gras, to the chocolate dessert. My only complaint is that two of the sauces accompanying our courses were WAY too salty. I will go back and hope that the lay off the salt. read more

I liked l'etoile. I thought the food was good but predictable for frenchy cuisine. The owner was welcoming and kind, even coming to our table to chat, which made the waiters walking around stare at us to see who the owner was chuckling so hard with. We received amuse Bouche; a farm raised fresh water oyster and some warm green soup in a porcelain teacup. The steak my boyfriend had was charbroiled on the outside and perfectly salmon-hued in the middle of each bite- perfect. We received complimentary half glasses of cava, which was all very nice. The owner will dole out inexpensive carbonated alcoholic beverages when he wants to be pardoned for getting your reservation wrong. I had the crepes and the game hen as well, which I felt was lacking in flavor. The chicken could have been a tad more tender, I felt. The decor is lovely, with a nice star theme. read more

We went here for a special family dinner and the experience was superb. The setting is lovely - we didn't get to sit outside but the inside was classy. Service was attentive and careful. Many places on the Vineyard are chronically understaffed so service and be an issue at many spots but we had no problems here. I was especially appreciative of the way the staff took care of my cousin, who is dairy-free. Not an easy task at a french restaurant! Most importantly, the food. It was well-presented, fresh, expertly prepared. We especially loved the foie gras, oysters, and etuvee lobster. Drinks and dessert were also on point. Excellent choice for fine-dining on the Vineyard, and I think their bar is a good low-key and lower price alternative if you're solo or just two people. read more

The food, service and ambience were all perfect. This is the place I'll heartily recommend to friends who visit MV. L'etoile served French food where the flourishes and careful preparation complimented the centerpiece vs being gratuitously fussy and complicated. As for drinks: a server always wins points with me when she suggests a wine that is from the cheaper end of the menu and pairs perfectly with the food. And that's what happened each time. As for ambience: the dining areas are beautiful and also feel cozy. This place is a gem. read more

We have been eating our way around the island this summer and am so happy that L'etoile satisfied again this season. We brought friends a couple times last year and sat inside but decided to sit outside under the tent and were really happy that we did. We had a great bottle of Pinot Noir from Oregon that was wonderful and reasonable priced which is not the norm here. I ordered two appetizers for dinner - the Foie Gras was simply amazing with an accompanying rhubard puree and the short ribs were tender and sat on creamy mashed potatoes and were a perfect portion for me. My husband had the surf and turf which was a half lobster with a rib eye with a beautiful crust. The waiter and staff were attentive and we look forward to our next visit. read more

Seriously good - and one of the best dining experiences you can have in Edgartown. The play of favors in each dining course was a delight. The flash-seared Norwegian salmon fillet (served with crayfish coulis on bacon-whipped potatoes) is probably the best salmon dish I've had the pleasure of eating. We had dinner last night at l'etoile in Edgartown and we ALL were utterly wowed by the Etuvee lobster! It was , simply put, the finest lobster the 3 of us had ever enjoyed! While 2 of us had the lobster alone , my wife had the lobster and steak and her steak was melt-in-your-mouth delicious! The appetizers: I had an octopus dish while the others had spinach salads, were both delicious. The one of us who had room for dessert had a chocolate-glazed peanut butter bombe and more ooohs and aaahs followed. A grand meal in every sense. Excellent fine dining on MV. To start the atmosphere is spectacular. We dined in the open tent with beautiful lights and spacious seating. We started with the duck fois gras with raspberry sauce. This was absolutely amazing. The duck was lightly charred and had a citrus smokey flavor and literally melted in my mouth. Served with a raspberry vinegrette. Second I had the grilled octopus with three beans. I personally would bludgeon a baby seal to lick the pan this was prepared on, YES it's that good. Get two of these. Tender juicy octopus, with a delicious tomatoe sauce. Third dish was the pan roasted duck breast and wild rice/mushroom filled crepe. This was beautifully prepared and was equally delicious. The whole meal was very pricey, but it is worth it. Great meal, even better service. read more

First time at this restaurant. Heard good things, but we were blown away at how great it was. We had the short ribs appetizer and the braised rabbit salad to begin. Both were excellent and seemed to have flavors beyond what you'd expect. My wife had the duck breast special and I had the halibut. Again, beyond what you'd come to expect. The sauces, caviar touches and the way Chef Michael prepares created a five star event for us...and we are not easily given to giving five stars. Don't miss this! read more

We were walking through town our first day and spotted the gauzy tent to the left of the restaurant. Instantly we wanted to eat dinner there that night. We read the menu and that clinched it. the only reservation available was for 9:00 p.m. but it was worth the wait. The waiter was professional yet fun, the menu was amazing - a rabbit hopped by the tables en route to someone's garden no doubt, hopefully avoiding the kitchen and appearing as roast lapin. Extremely relaxing, delicious food, experienced wait staff. In fact, we went back the next night for coffee at the bar. Would go back for sure. read more

My wife and I had two amazing dinners on our 30th Anniversary vacation at L'etoile. You can eat inside in very elegant dining room or outside on nice patio with tent. We chose to eat inside each time as outside was a bit warm. The dinners were just unbelievable. Both nights we shared an appetizer of special cheeses and fruit which featured great tasting cheeses that were different than we had ever tasted before. For dinner my wife had fluke with fresh vegetables which she taught was great. I had the soft shell crab with mango cole slaw and wild rice that was out of this world and the second night, I had halibut with mango cole slaw and wild rice again (was so great I had to have again). The service was very very friendly and attentive. A very nice quiet and elegant dining experience. I would characterize the dress code as casual elegance. Great dinner for couples or quiet dinner with friends. Not recommended for families with younger kids. read more

A very good restaurant. Last minute plan on a sat night and they accommodated us on the patio(tent). A very good menu but we all opted for the tasting which gave us a bit of everything. Vicheysois, fois gras, seafood, lamb and dessert...all imaginatively prepared and presented. A true fine dining menu and experience. Wine listt is somewhat limited but they do have a reserve section. very good service. The bad...if you eat outside you're eating under a tent and there's no way to avoid this simple fact. we enjoyed a temperate late summer evening but if it was hot or rainy this might not be so comfortable. Also, we were asked to leave our table immediately after dessert. (due to our late planning we were seated early for dinner). After dropping over $1k on dinner, it might be good to offer a glass of wine to enjoy on the lawn instead of just telling us to go. Still by far the best restaurant we've been to on MV. And really la creme of a very dissapointing restaurant scene in Etown. read more

We have been here many times and have enjoyed the food, ambience and service, but not tonight. We were taken to the patio which we requested in our reservation but the table in the entrance way was in the traffic pattern. We were offered one in the main room next to a very large table. The two of us wanted a nice quiet dinner and when we objected the hostess said "someone has to sit here" so we left and went to Atria and had a wonderful romantic dining experience. My husband and I were visiting MV from WI. We consider ourselves knowledgeable about food and enjoy "fine dining" (for what it is worth). We came to L'Etoile with high expectations, given the price and reputation on the island. Our experience fell flat with the exception of the oysters, which were quite good. The first indication that the food might not be up to snuff was the salt and pepper on the table. No fine dining restaurant, that is worth a lick of salt, would have salt and pepper on the table. I ordered the warm spinach salad which was way overdressed and soggy. My husband ordered the crispy octopus which was not at all crispy. We ordered the lamb, medium-rare, as one of the main dishes which came out medium (at best) but more consistent with medium-well and cool. We sent it back and it came out medium again, but at least this time it was warm. Finally, our crème brulee was overcooked and curdled. All in all, I would give the ambience and service 4 stars, but the food is 3 stars. I would save your money and go elsewhere. read more

My husband and I (and guests) have had dinner at l'etoile at both it's Charlotte Inn location and at Fallon's. While in the past, we have found the food and service amazing, we were extremely disappointed this week. Our waiter was less than attentive. There was no discussion of menu items, he incorrectly identified the cheeses on the cheese tray, the bread plates were left on the table long after we indicated we were finished with them. The asparagus soup was bland, the soft shell crab was the smallest I've ever seen and the accompanying salad was mushy. Lobster entuvee was very good - seems to be this signature dish is the only one that is consistently good. The warm chocolate cake was served cold. Our server did not offer after dinner drinks or coffee. Maybe this was an off night but it was bad enough that we will not have this on our top three list any longer. read more

One of my favorite restaurants on the island. My wife and I had our rehearsal dinner here. The food, service, and atmosphere were amazing. Our party had the entire patio area to ourselves. The staff was incredibly attentive and welcoming. We worked closely with the owner/chef Michael to design the menu we wanted. The duck was juicy and tender, and the sauce delicious. The halibut was delectable and paired perfectly with the risotto. We are glad we trusted Michael's wine selection, which was excellent. A great venue to have an event. After planning a wedding on the vineyard, it was nice to work with a vendor that was attentive and responsive. I highly recommend this restaurant, and am looking to many future visits! read more

L'etoile is a good upscale restaurant. We liked the rstaurant itself and decor - an enjoyable setting for a night out. In general I would say the meal met our expectations, but there was definitely a variation in the opinions across our group. My wife in Particular loved the Citrus game hen, but my scallops were a bit under cooked and one of our friends did not love the duck. All in this is a good restaurant and we would go again, but it didnt leave us "dying to go back" the next night.... read more

I had not eaten at L'etoile since it was located at the Charlotte Inn...many years ago. Same fabulous chef even today ...again I enjoyed dinner tremendously. Highly recommended! Great service staff. read more
