And yes, I do have a favorite treatment room there as well. Don't judge me, judge your T-zone. From check-in to check-out, they treat you like skincare royalty. No pushy product sales, no awkward upsells, just vibes, chill music, and a facial that will have you questioning why you ever strayed. It's CLEAN, it's PEACEFUL, and it's BLACK-GIRL-APPROVED. Was really looking forward to our services here- planned a few weeks in advance. My mom has her travel booked around these appointments. And they called 530 the night before to cancel. I know this is a hard year for everyone and things happen but they 1. Left no time to call other places. 2. Offered no option to bring in another staff member or move around the appointments or 3. Offered no discount for future services even though they ruined our plans for a mother daughter reunion since being vaccinated. When I found out that Paulo was moving to this location (from Chestnut Hill) I knew that I would follow him and continue to be a loyal Skoah client. I received the same amazing facial and was super relaxed and taken care of. Paulo and his staff really know how to treat your skin and give it the TLC and advice that you need to look and feel fabulous. I brought my mom in for a facial and he literally worked magic and she looks so much younger that I can't even believe it. Another thing that I admire about Paulo and his staff is the deep engagement and product knowledge that they share with you. I have purchased about 6 or 7 products and use them faithfully everyday and continue to see amazing results. I'm at the point where I don't really even need to wear makeup if I don't want to because my skin is glowing and super radiant. It's not good enough to buy over the counter/drugstore skincare anymore because I've learned it does nothing for me and doesn't give me the positive results the way Skoah's customized products do. My sister bought me a Rue La La to Skoah in the South End for a holiday facial and foot treatment. I was excited to give it a try, since I hadn't had a facial in forever. Skoah is a spa that basically only does facials- they also do some foot treatments, etc. but their main focus is on facials. I had an appointment at 6pm on a Tuesday. Upon entering, I was happily greeted upstairs by Meghan, who was to be doing my facial. She offered me a big glass of water while I filled out my new patient forms. She also gave me a free smallish sample of body cream, which made me happy. Upstairs, there is store area with products for sale. While I didn't browse around too long, it looked like they had a solid array of products- not just face products- that were moderately priced ($15-45). According to the product paper they gave me, they also have a product pledge- if you don't see results you want within 60 days, you can return the unused portion to get a refund or replacement. Pretty awesome. The facial rooms are downstairs, and there are 3 of them. My room had an amazingly comfortable heated bed. Meghan was so friendly and we had some good talks during the facial. Before starting, she took the time to talk to me about my skin and my skin routine. While performing the facial, she explained each product, why she was using it, and what it was doing. Everything smelled delicious and I definitely had no complaints about any of the products. I was most impressed/amazed during extraction- normally I find it incredibly uncomfortable. However, it didn't hurt AT ALL. Either this is because Meghan had great skills (she told me she's been doing facials for 5 years), or because Skoah use a facial mask to open your pores instead of steam... or a combination of the two. After the facial, my skin felt smooth and amazing. Meghan wrote up some of the things we discussed for my beauty routine and suggested 3 products I might want to try. I originally wasn't going to purchase anything, but the toner ($20) and face scrub ($30) were much needed, so I went for it. :-) I don't usually get regular facials, but next time I get one, I will schedule it here. After a month of stressful wedding planning I booked myself their most indulgent facialicious - 75 min facial plus massage ($135 before tip) and was looking forward to it. The lady doing my facial, Annie, pushed me to get a 50 minute facial for the same price. which I reluctantly agreed to since I could see she clearly did not want to do the massage. The facial lasted just 40 minutes in spite of being told it was 50. She just applied the products on my face and did not make an effort to massage them in. If I wanted products applied to my face I would get a lot more bang for my buck if I bought skincare products at Sephora and applied them myself. The online description says the facial comes with a mask but I don't think I got one. I ended up paying $150 for a 40 min sub par facial. I'm giving it two starts because the establishment was clean and the 5 minute shoulder massage was good. read more

They do extraction, exfoliation, and the price point is way better than Exhale Back Bay although they do not target dark spots. Professional and clean but my facial was pretty unimpressive otherwise. I was asked what I wanted to focus on and I said that extractions were a priority. Despite this information, I would guess extractions constituted about 7 minutes of my hour+ facial, and even that's being generous. A couple other gripes: - The bed is kept warm which is slightly odd in the summer heat. - I felt like I was being pushed product, which is absolutely not something anyone wants to deal with while attempting to relax. My power facial at Skoah South End today was amazing. I am new to facials and I know a bit about different skincare brands and it's an interest of mine but I still keep things relatively simple. I love that Skoah is a very no-frills, calming, and approachable spa. As a new client I look for all of those things. I am someone who can really sense if I'm judged or if I look out of place but I never felt any of that here. The staff person who did my facial offered her knowledge so kindly and I honestly would go back just to purchase products and chat more about skincare! Although I don't have the knowledge to go into greater detail about the power facial itself, mine focused on balancing the oils in my skin and extractions. Extractions are often scary to people because they can be painful but the experience was painless to me. In the end of the service I was so calm that I wasn't even thinking about the time! Afterwards, I had a great shopping experience and I kindly declined to purchase an item to recommended to me. Nice and relaxing facial but I wouldn't really call it 'therapeutic'. I had the 75 minute facialicious facial and it was a nice experience but I probably wouldn't go back. It has three masks, and during each mask, you get a massage on a different area of your body -- first your feet, then your hands and arms, and finally your shoulders. The massage was more like 'gentle rub-down with cream' and did not exert any pressure whatsoever. The music is nice, the decor is modern, and the beds are super duper comfortable. Awesome little store! Tried their signature facial, which was $120 for 75 minutes. It included extractions and 3 masks, during which you get massages on your feet, arms, neck and scalp. (The massages are relaxing with light pressure... Standard facial massages.) My beautician was very professional and attentive. She clearly knew what she was doing! Overall, very relaxing facial. I wanted to check out Skoah after reading about it and seeing it sprout up in the neighborhood. I mostly get my facials at spa like places on Newbury. The minimalist approach in the lobby is a clean feel. The rooms are a little sterile feeling. If you get the room on the main floor, it is VERY loud. Be prepared to hear everyone who comes in the front door. I was disappointed by the woman doing my facial. During the extraction part, she told me I didn't need ANY extractions. In 20 years of receiving facials, I have never heard that! It was like she didn't want to do that part! Overall it was so-so.....not enough to get me to go back again. I bought a Gilt deal ($70 for 75 minute facials comparable to the Xtreme Facial--normally $120) for a friend and myself in December, and then came back in January because I liked it so much. Why five stars? My face feels like a baby's...face. *Facials* Sofia consulted with me about my skincare routine and assessed the state of my face before customizing the products. She chatted with me intermittently as she did the cleansing, toning, masks and extractions, also taking the time to explain each step. The extraction didn't hurt as much as it usually does, both because of technique and because of the minty-smelling glycolic acid mask she used to soften up all the stuff in my pores. The whole process is quite relaxing--to the point where I fell asleep a few times! I liked that there isn't any "esthetician leaves you alone in the room for 10 minutes while you have a mask on" time. Afterward, she made a few recommendations for products but didn't push me to spend $$$. *Atmosphere* The facial rooms are pretty minimalist, with heated beds that feel like cocoons. The upstairs is also minimalist, with a few leather chairs and magazines in the waiting area and a long shelf of products parallel to the check-in desk. It feels calm and clean. *Products* The product selection is extensive, reasonably priced, and smells amazing. I bought a travel kit, the foam kleanser, and the turbo tonik the first time I came in, and the skrubbing kleanser the second time. I also picked up the face skotion 30 during the Boxing Day online sale. I appreciate their offer of a 60-day guarantee, but definitely can't picture any of it not working well! read more

Waste of money! I purchased the facialicious facial (75 min) for $125 expecting a complete facial with all the bells and whistles. If I wanted a sub-par foot massage while wearing a few face masks, I could have stayed home, for free. The facial was supposed to include extractions...but since when does rubbing your fingers gently across someone's face count as extractions? My face doesn't look any better and my pores are still as visibly congested as they were when I came in. Very Scandinavian- simple, brightly lit, efficient. It's hard to tell exactly what it is as they purport to be 'personal trainers for your skin'. that doesn't exactly conjure up a relaxing experience or something that would be good for a relatively fragile part of your body. But they get the job done. Facials are reasonably priced and effective- you don't get a lot of lovin' like you do at some places, but my skin looked great right after and stayed that way for a week. They have great deals occasionally - and book up quickly. The folks who work there are also very responsive to your skin concerns and helpful with suggestions. The best part? Their products. I didn't even have to take my clothes off. Just hopped onto the heated bed and had a no-frills treatment. I have to say, I was being very picky about finding my new home for facials in Boston. I was being stubborn and only wanted a place that used the products that my beloved placed back in Pittsburgh had, which made things really hard finding a place. That was, until I found Skoah. I love the concept of "personal training for your skin" - as it is very seldom that two people would have the same needs. I feel like the staff at Skoah has this down very well. They take the time to get to know you, your skin and what your needs may be. They have products for everyone and seasons do indeed seem customized. I have had a few different estheticians and all of them have been fabulous. I cannot complain about anything. I love that you can buy packages too. For someone who is busy, it helps make me more compliant (and it helps save money too which is an added bonus). Making appointments is easy, they have hours that will work with anyone's schedule (no matter how crazy it is), and everyone is just great and friendly that you interact with. I stopped in on a whim after walking past their "$20 for 20 minutes" sign. I had never had a facial before, and figured $20 wasn't a bad investment! Sofia was so friendly and sweet, and explained all products to me while making me so relaxed and refreshed in just 20 minutes. I really felt taken care of. I was apprehensive about products being pushed upon me, but I never felt that way. I did buy the exfoliating mask (I never knew you could exfoliate without putting abrasive scrubs on your face!) and toner, which both made my skin feel amazing. She was incredibly informative about every product she used and was very knowledgeable. I had a few questions about my skin and she answered and used products to target areas I told her I was having problems with. I started going to Skoah after purchasing a Rue La La certificate and haven't looked back. The space is simple, clean, inviting and the heated beds are heavenly. As others have mentioned, the rooms upstairs can get a little noisy from chatter outside, which is unfortunate; luckily I've only been upstairs once. Sofia has helped me to develop a daily skincare regimen that leaves my skin looking it's finest with minimal investment of time on my part. I have been using Skoah products & love them. On one occasion, I did seem to have a reaction to the SPF in a moisturizer and they gladly took it back for me without hassle. This was one of the most disappointing facials I've had. Before booking, you should know they boast they are a salon that doesn't use machines. This includes using a steamer. The lady could barely do any extractions since their "pore opening serum" didn't do anything. The basic facial comes with a shoulder and arm massage but it could not be called a massage. It felt like she was just brushing a feather up and down my arm. When I got home, I had to shower and when I stepped out of the shower, I noticed that all the product they used on my face had literally melted off my face and pooled around my jaw line. Absolutely shocking customer service. I had made an appointment, and needed to cancel due to a last minute change of travel plans. The person I spoke to on the phone, Jay, mentioned they had a 24 hour cancellation policy - that I was not made aware of when I made my initial booking - which I would have absolutely respected had I known of its existence. Before I could even elaborate or discuss rescheduling, Jay very rudely hung up on me and said I was "not invited back." Immature, to say the least. As a person who has worked in customer service, this is absolutely the wrong way to treat a customer even if they had been in the wrong. While I was initially very intruiged by Skoah and their services, I refuse to be a patron of a company that treats its potential customers so poorly and with such disrespect. read more

Don't give this business your money. I had been a customer and enjoyed their facials. My family had purchased some items for me along with a gift card for my birthday. Today I went into the store to exchange some of the items. A man who claimed to be the owner was behind the counter. I've never seen him before. When I explained what I'd like to do he told me I would need to come back. I asked if I could just make the exchange. He said he was the owner but he couldn't help me and I'd need to come back another day. I asked if he was the owner why he couldn't help me. To which he shouted at me "Get out of my store you C*NT." I was shocked. He kept screaming that word at me, told me he knew I was a problem when I walked in. I told him I was shocked at his language and he walked me out of the store. I am appalled beyond belief. I called the police and filed a complaint. I will never spend a dime at skoah again and I will let all my friends in the area know about this. I just had a special Rue La La facial at Skoah and it was absolutely amazing! $49 for a one-hour facial AND a foot massage?! Yes, PLEASE! Laurie was my aesthetician and she was wonderful - very helpful and friendly. All the Skoah products smelled so fresh and cucumber-y and felt good on my skin. The treatment itself was super relaxing, I almost fell asleep on a comfy heated bed (especially during the foot massage:) My skin still feels amazing and it's been almost a week! Every once in a while, when I've had a rough week or month, I like to diverge from my usual beauty/skin maintenance routine (cheap, effective, no frills - see: Beauty Spa, Coco Beauty) and indulge in something a little more bougie. That's how I ended up getting a Power Hour facial with Meghan at Skoah. Odds are, I won't go back. Why? The facial was solid, but not skin-changing enough to warrant paying the extra $25-40 more than I would at Coco Beauty in Chinatown. I was lured in by the sexy/cheeky minimalist branding and uber-pleased by the heated beds and friendly Skoah staff, but my skin and the experience weren't measurably better than I'd get at Coco Beauty. On the plus side, a) the people here are wonderful, and b) the skincare recommendations that come at the end of your facial are fantastic. I thought it was time for me to finally write a proper review for Skoah after being a customer for almost a year. I can say that Skoah is one of the best places in Boston for a facial. Not only are the facials absolutely fantastic, but they're completely affordable and relaxing. I never thought I would be able to receive such high quality facials on a regularly basis until I stumbled upon Skoah. I always choose the facialisciouss facial because when I return every six weeks, I want the full package. What I enjoy most about the facialisciouss is that you can suggest what you're wanting for the massage, whether it be concentrating on hydration, pores, etc. There's also the additional benefit of having them take a look at your face to provide suggestions on what they feel might work better for your skin. I've honestly received so many compliments on my skin after every Skoah appointment. Honestly, the cherry on top is the AWESOME massage they do while you're masks on applied. A lot of facial places will apply a mask, and then leave the room until it's time for the mask to be removed. At Skoah, they really focus on relaxation and massage your arms, legs, and neck. It's definitely not the massage you would get at a massage place, but it's enough to completely relax you. I've been lucky and found my soulmate Skoah employee who does wonders for my skin. Like most other reviews, I had the Rue La La holiday facial/foot treatment. I love facials, but don't tend to get them too often. I've only tried a couple other spa/salons in the area, and I was excited to try Skoah since they seem to have a slightly different aesthetic than most spas. The design is indicative of that--very modern but very cozy, like Ikea decided to build a log cabin. (Pretty great coming in off the cold streets!) My appointment was first thing in the morning, so by the time I filled out my information card my aesthetician (Sofia) was ready for me. She was extremely pleasant and professional. I really liked that she explained the products she was using and the reasons behind her decisions. But she also wasn't overly chatty, which is good for me since I like to zen out during treatments like these. Others have mentioned that their extractions didn't hurt at all; not exactly the case for me, but it definitely wasn't any more uncomfortable than any other facial I've had. At the end of the appointment, Sofia had written down some recommendations for products. This didn't feel pushy at all, though! Again, just really knowledgeable about what might work for my skin. Skoah's a welcome addition to the Boston spa scene. I left feeling fresh and revitalized, and my skin felt fantastic.
