We came here for dinner to get some tacos. The inside is very colorful but alos very small. We had a hard time finding a table since two jackasses decided to use a large table instead of one of the two seater tables. So we had two rearrange some tables around so we go could sit down. The service was great and the staff was very friendly. You order at the front of the restaurant and then they call your number when your order is ready. I ordered an Al Pastor taco, carne Asada and lengua taco. All three were delicious. They were small for the price but packed full of flavor. The al pastor marinade was on point with a hint of sweetness and cooked properly. They use arrachera for their carne Asada tacos. The meat was perfectly seasoned also cooked properly. The lengua was cut thick and very tasty. They use to go containers for their salsas, so you don't get bottles like you would at traditional taco joints. Overall, their tacos were on point, and I wouldn't mind returning to try a few other items off their menu. read more

Tacos are a food that's always good even when they are not great, but L'Patron tacos are pretty damn fantastic. We ordered them at work one for lunch on a recommendation for a coworker. I ordered the Al Pastor because I love Al pastor tacos, and these were better than I could have imagined. They had a great flavor as did the chips and guacamole, except for the craisins it had in it (odd). My only issue was with the price. All the food was very tasty, but for the size of the portions it is expensive. One taco is almost $5, and burritos are $12. The burrito was only about 6 inches long and the tacos were not packed with meat. I'm always for quality over quantity, but what am I paying for here. The skinny: decent spot for some tacos but nothing that blew me away. Atmosphere: small spot with counter and seat yourself service. Only a few tables in the back, and depending on the time it can get quite busy. Food: Tried the fish and lengua (beef tongue) tacos. Both were decent but nothing amazing. Fish was good but a bit too creamy - but fried well. The tongue lacked a little flavor for my taste but was good with the green salsa. Would recommend trying the salsa! Also had the street corn, which ended up being slightly bland but at the same time overpowered by the crema - quite milky tasting. Personally I'd recommend away from it. Price/value: $$ tacos are your average size nothing too small or big. But ended up being almost 10 for just 2 tacos. No sides. Would I come back: probably not. I was impressed by the quality of food they have here. I ordered a stake burrito, and two tacos of al pastor. The stake was of good quality with the right kind of flavor no chunks of fat as sometimes you tend to find in chopped stakes. Also, I could tell that all the vegetables and avocados were very fresh as well which is a plus when it comes to avocados. We also got horchata which was very good as well. Not sure what happened during the pandemic but steak in our food was all dry and hard. I've never seen it this bad before. Pre-covid I've always been able to get nice juicy pieces but it was like jerky if anything. This was quite disappointing, especially since all that food I ordered was supposed to be for a birthday celebration too. Felt so bad! Avoid their asada at all costs for now. Not sure what the reason is but it's pretty much inedible. I won't be ordering that any time soon. If you want steak, go for their lomo(rib-eye). That was totally fine. This one tends to take longer to make than the asada but it's worth it. It was flavorful and tender. When my order was taken over the phone they asked if I wanted "everything" in the burrito but when it came time to eat it, "everything" was not in there like I had asked. Where was the rice? Where were the veggies? It was pretty much a dried meat jerky burrito. Ack! Pass! The shrimp was spot on. Love the slaw they put on top. Something has gone seriously wrong with L Patron. After putting me on hold for 17 minutes to order a delivery they told me they done deliver to my area. I live 1.1 miles away and have had 10+ deliveries from them. Then they said they would but delivery is now $9. Delivery plus tip would be more than the food! So they must think they are so busy that they don't need to provide service anymore. What an absolute shame. read more

What's happened to L Patron??? my wife and I lived in Chicago about five years ago and this was hands-down the best tacos we ever had. Just went there today visiting while in town and just what in the hell happened? It was way worse, and my go to favorite taco is the Lomo Encebollado and it seemed like the taste was totally different. The quality was way lower and even the cut of steaks seem different? What the heck??!! it breaks my heart because this was so good, the people were so nice and now it seems like it's almost under new ownership or something, and they cheeped out on the quality of the ingredients. That's fatal in the restaurant business.. The Al Pastor Taco was still pretty good but I don't know what the heck happened to the ribeye & onion. It's such a shame. Truly sad. I don't know if I'll ever go back anymore and I would love to hear from the restaurant to see what actually has changed in these last five years?! My advice would be if you need to raise prices even more to keep the same quality meat, do it!! don't try to keep the price the way it was with all the inflation and everything that happened. Placed on hold for 5 minutes before placing order, then placing that order took another 10 minutes since it was so loud in there. Ordered 6 tacos, 2 sides of rice, and chips with guacamole and salsa. The total for delivery was 80$!!!! Including the 9$ delivery charge, but before tipping. The tacos were not what they once were, and they were street sized tortillas- for almost 5$ each. The guacamole looked a bit aged when it arrived. Phone call initiated to my food being handed to me was nearly 85 minutes as well. Probably one of my favorite taco restaurants in the city. I love the El Gringo. Think steak taco with melted cheese in a homemade flour tortilla. Delicious. Something about the consistency of the tortilla makes me go bonkers for it. Another thing that makes me go crazy here is their Al Pastor tacos. Doesn't even need any sauce because one bite is already jam packed with flavor! I love that they moved and have so much more room for dining in now. Make sure to bring cash as they do not take credit cards. ATM located in the restaurant too, FYI. Recently we haven't been as enamored with L'Patron as in the past. It's never been a cheap taco option, but it always was good. Our last few visits were disappointing to say the least. Over the past year, it's felt like quality and quantity has slipped. First, there was a change from the bottled salsas, which used to be aplenty. I have to assume someone ruined it for others and was fine with the side portions they switched to. Those portions are even smaller, nay tiny, now. On our most recent visit we were give one tiny red and one tiny green for 4 tacos & a gringo. They've also started charging for water, $.39/cup. When you're paying almost $4/taco that's kind of ridiculous. From an ambiance standpoint, I'm disappointed with the addition of TV's, they're just not needed. It's not just the portions, but the quality and recipes. My husband's go to is a gringo and a taco. Generally, he's not one for chicken tacos, but enjoyed theirs. Today's showing was disappointing. The beans on the side of the gringo were watery, barely think enough to eat with a fork. For a while, the veggie taco special has been uninteresting or disappointing; today was no different. The flavors ran flat and the spinach was undercooked. The diabla taco was flat out bland; the shining star was the regular shrimp taco. Will we come back? Yes, it's not bad, it's just not as good as it used to be. However, our visits have become less frequent; usually long enough between visits that we've forgotten that the last time left us wanting more. read more

They were out of tongue when we got there but considering it was past 8pm, it seemed reasonable. I really liked the vibe of the place, they have a patio out back that seems to either have just opened or got a fresh new furniture change, definitely a great vibe - they call ur name on a speaker so you can hang outside if you want to. L Patrón use to be a place my bf & I loved to come to. We've been coming here for 3+ years. It feels like every time we've come recently, it's been a bad experience. They're definitely loosing their touch. Tacos are served cold, watery guacamole and an immense increase in price in the food (which can be understood to a certain extent) but they've raised their tacos from $3.29 to $4.89 & burritos from $9 to $11.99. Told them I didn't want tomato & lettuce on the burrito, instead cilantro & onion and they charged $0.39 for each lol Only reason they're getting 3 stars & not 2 is because their Al Pastor tacos are bomb. Overall: Delicious and authentic food await at LPT, just bring some cash! The good: The food here is authentic, fresh, and delicious. The torta was on "poofier" bread than most tortas (yes we got tortas at a taco place), but that's not a bad thing per say. The lomo on it was marinated well and wasn't overdone, and paired perfectly with the avacado, tomato, and dat green sauce. Oh, and it was massive! The cashier was friendly when we finally got there after the long lines, and the atmosphere is suiting. We were fans of the original location on Diversey, and upset when that location closed. We were pleasantly surprised when they opened up their new location on Fullerton. The new location is much more accessible, more parking, more seats, in general a much better location. The restaurant is BYOB, except for soft drinks and water. The decor is much more colorful and inviting. They also have an outdoor patio where are you can enjoy your meal on a nice spring, summer, or fall day. Order and pay at the counter, they will call you when your food is ready for pickup in the front. Try the chips and guacamole as a starter, my only complaint is that the chips are not freshly made. Tacos are good but my favorites are the Gringo or the Gringa, a handmade tortilla filled with either carne al pastor for the Gringa or carne asada for the Gringo and Chihuahua melting cheese. Both sandwiches are served with with rice and beans. Ask for the pickled carrots, onion & peppers: "escabeche", it's a great addition to your meal. read more

I have to visit this place alone. Although kid friendly I was not able to get the full experience because I was busy getting things for the kids. They have a huge blackboard with their variety of tacos. You have to order the salsa and chips (a bit pricey). You get in line, place your order and then wait for it. I think they could bring the order out to you after you place it but people stand and wait for their orders. They do have an outdoor patio in the back. I did not see margaritas or beer but I could be wrong. The tacos I had were great but like I said I really have to go there with a friend or alone to fully enjoy the tacos. It's been some years since I've been here. The last time was before I started writing Yelp Reviews and I believe it was a different location as well. I got 5 tacos. 2 Al Al pastor, 2 Steak tacos and 1 special cecina taco with peppers, onions and guacamole. I liked that the Al pastor wasn't too greasy just the right amount. One of my steak tacos had too much char. The 2nd one was more tender and wasn't charred. The real star of the show was the special steak taco the cecina.
