See previous review. I have to come to defense of this restaurant. I love this spot. Best tacos in Chicago. Then...Covid happened. Then...inflation. It's quite apparent this restaurant has suffered under the current crisis that have effected everyone. It's not just L'Patron. I work in sales and the if your business has not been effected by the supply chain issues, then please contact me. That being said. Currently, prices have risen on all items. No tomatoes in the Pico due to seasonal reasons. Please just stop selling what that replacement is. That is not worth the $$$. Steak tacos, just not the same. $5 tacos now. I really struggled with giving this place a 4 or 5 star review, but ultimately I decided on a 4. I didn't have cash on me when I first tried to come to this place (they are cash only), so I ended up going somewhere else to eat that night. I planned better on my second visit and brought enough cash to try one of their burritos. L'Patron is a no frills type of place, but is very clean and colorful inside. I ordered a steak burrito and had the verde sauce with it. The size of the burrito was huge, and stuffed well with meat, beans, avocado, and veggies. The quality of the meat was higher than many other places I've visited like this, but it was kind of on the dry side. I tried using a lot of the verde sauce to make the steak taste less dry, but it didn't seem to help enough. I think that next time I would try a different type of meat. We really enjoy the rib eye and carmelized onion tacos, lengua tacos and tilapia tacos. Of course the carne asada steak burrito rocks and continues to be a big favorite. Some of the best Mexican street food north of the rio grande I found the new location a great improvement from the old one: larger, aesthetically appealing, good ventilation and the addition of an outdoor patio in the back. The food remains as good as ever, and the menu, but for some additional items, remains virtually unchanged. You can enjoy one of the staple tacos or indulge your self on a torta or burrito; delight your self with the fish tacos or try "gringo" or "gringa" : a thick tortilla filled with meat and served with rice and beens. And don't forget the guacamole with chips. I was pleased to find they still provide "escabeche" pickled  carrots, onion & peppers: on request. For me, the carrots and onions gives the food that special flavor not found with out it. Order at the counter,  have a seat, and they will call you when your food is ready. They have the Gringa and Gringo items, which are handmade tortillas with cheese and either al pastor or carne asada (get the al pastor). It's rich and delicious and a lot heavier than a taco. I had a burrito here recently and while the meat (I got al pastor lol) was delicious, I was suuuper disappointed they put lettuce and tomatoes in it. Like wth. Burritos consist of rice, beans, meat, cheese, salsa, and maybe guacamole and sour cream. Is that so hard to follow? I'm not at Chipotle, so I wasn't expecting to find such a thing. Guacamole is good but portion is a little small. The chips are tasty tho, you can tell they're freshly fried in house and seasoned with the perfect amount of salt. Overall, a really good spot. I guess I'm just not a fan of the cheese and tortilla sandwich thing. If you want a unique option, I highly recommend the rib eye taco! After reading countless reviews about L'Patron and debating whether or not the Uber ride was worth it, I decided to give it a shot. Some background about myself: I'm absolutely addicted to tacos. I could eat them all day every day. There's no stopping me and no way I could possibly ever get sick of them. These tacos were undoubtedly some of the best, if not THE best tacos I've ever had. They were simple, cheap, and full of quality ingredients and flavors. The carne asada came with thick slabs of meat cooked to perfection. Just when I thought a taco couldn't get any better, I bit into the Al Pastor--the best Al Pastor taco EVER. The shrimp taco was also delicious. I was in taco heaven. It's hard to mess up rice and beans, but equally hard to make them really well. The side of rice and beans was generous and absolutely delicious. I will say that the elotes weren't that great. It came with about 1/4 corn and 3/4 cheese. But then again, who can complain about cheese? Although it took a while to get a table, the ambience was fun and energetic. Mm mm mm. L'patron is always on point. I first went to L'patron when they were at their old location. I was excited to see their new storefront. Not only is the seating more roomy, they also have outdoor seating! Since the area is less cramped, the music doesn't seem as loud. I can actually hear my friend when she's sitting across from me!! My friend and I ordered one each of the carne asada taco and the al pastor taco. While both were absolutely delicious, we both agreed that the al pastor was a tad better. There are two types of sauce they provide: a green sauce and a red sauce. Both are spicy to me, as I can barely eat more than 5 hot cheetos, but both sauces are so good!! Let's face it, my fav taco joint is only open on Sunday mornings. So if I want tacos any other day of the week, I need to be open to other options. Luckily, I didn't have to search for long. I have tried a variety of their tacos. My favorite, by far is the carne asada. It's always fresh and juicy. The al pastor is a little too sweet for me. The pollo was dry when I had it, so I never ordered it again. I've tried both the beer battered pescado and camaron, but I thought the serrano aioli was lacking flavor and there was a bit too much of it. I did try the special grilled camaron taco with avocado and I liked that one much better. The shrimp are big and plump. My favorite thing to order is the gringo, which has carne asada, melted chihuahua cheese between a thick homemade tortilla that's been crisped up on the griddle. Each order comes with rice and beans. The gringo is pretty filling and I can usually do one extra taco on the side and call it a day. The chips and guac are good, too, but pricey. Love all the different spicy salsas and the fresh radish slices they (sometimes) serve on the side. Cute spot with cute decor, cash only, street parking available. They give meaty, seared, big chunks. I went back and ordered 3 to-go. The ribeye taco is made similarly, but with caramelized onions, which I did not like (overpowered the dish). The gringa (al pastor) and gringo (carne asada) are stuffed tortillas (not fried), oozing with cheese. Very good. The cheese masks the over-sweet pineapple flavor of the al pastor. The al pastor was WAY too pineapple-heavy. I notice this happens at some taco places. They over-marinade the pork with pineapple, and you taste pineapple over the meat. You should taste the meat first and foremost, and pineapple should enhance it. For this reason, I do NOT recommend the popular al pastor. read more

Remembering that L'Patron's Food Truck was near, I dashed out to get my favorite tacos! Get to the truck and the line was long and I was cold from walking one tiny block! But Michael Jackson's greatest hits were blasting and everything was all good with the world. I must admit, it was hard not to dance to Madonna's "Vogue" and Will Smith's "Getting Jiggy With It!"
