Wonderful steaks and shrimp, mouthwatering! Be a little careful on busy nights, the shrimp (the very odd time) can be not clean/deveined or not the freshest. However, if you have any issues with a shrimp, they will replace the whole thing for you. Now that's customer service! First opened in 1971 in North Vancouver, BC, it changed ownership a few times over the years, now being a Canadian owned restaurant chain across Canada and the US. The Keg is a high end steakhouse with all kinds of cuts when it comes to beef, aged and seasoned to definitely enhance the experience of steak eating. My ultimate meal preference at the Keg starts with a delicious Caesar salad and the baseball top sirloin cut, with sides of steak fries and vegetables. This is one of many beef cuts at the restaurant, but you can also find a wide diversity of appetizers, steak cuts, chicken, fish and seafood and sides. The Keg also has a full alcohol menu - beers, wine and cocktails. Let's not forget amazing desserts too - many times I am too full to get a plate of dessert though!!! I have been to a number of locations where the restaurant is modern - but for the seasoned and regular Keg customer, one would know that many restaurants are located in old renovated buildings. Whichever location you visit, the ambiance at any location is an experience in itself. As an high end restaurant, it is definitely a fancy dining experience. The serving staff is very friendly and professional, and service you get is great, fast and excellent. They can answer any questions you have and make suggestions when needed. We have gotten into the habit of going to The Keg at South Common every 7 - 10 days or so. We've noticed acoss the past few years that some items (e.g. Gibson's rye) were inexplicably removed from the menu. As of this visit, we were shocked to see that the Gruyere Mushroom dip, Pork ribs and cauliflower mash were removed from the menu. We're not sure how the restaurant curates feedback to support these moves but it clearly does not seem to be by talking to customers. Our, task now is to figure out where to go instead of The Keg ... very disappointed. read more

I've been going to the keg for special occasions and birthdays at this location for over 20 years. To start with our waiter was fantastic. This was my first time my steak wasn't cooked to my liking, my fully loaded baked potato came with no toppings but my family members did and our Caesar's came to us tasting bland. It's tradition to go so we will be back. Hopeful next time is better. read more

My partner and I had a reservation for valentine's dinner in the lounge. Our server Nick escorted us to our table. He was very kind and super friendly. Called us by name he wS very attentive for our dinner. My steak was done to perfection accompanied with baked loaded potato and to die for roasted beets. What a treat. The lounge was super busy but nick was on spot with his delivery. Kudos to our server. The ambiance in the lounge was relaxing with the hockey game playing Music would have been more romantic however the keg knows how to treat a guest. The hostess called us a taxi. My wife and I were looking to celebrate and decided on the Keg. We had made reservations and were seated promptly. Servers were very attentive and courteous. The food was amazing! For an appetizer we had the garlic cheese toast, which was very flavourful and came out quickly , hot and fresh. I had ordered the rib steak and my wife tried the baseball too sirloin, both medium rare. Both steaks tasted amazing, and were cooked to perfection. We both agreed that this was the best meal we have had in a while! Would definitely recommend this restaurant for a celebration supper or splurge meal! read more

Ate twice here on my days off last week. They are getting a five star review because the food was exactly what it should be... I have reviewed a lot of Kegs. These two visits, the steak was cooked to even better than perfection, the service was impeccable as always is expected here. Consistency and taste! I almost considered a 4* review just because this is one of the locations that could really afford to be updated. But this really doesn't matter when the key things are nailed. My last two visits to a different location in another city were less than stellar. This renewed my life long faith in the brand. First time here. Nice and cozy place and it was pretty good except for the rancid croutons in my lobster bisque which was fair. It was literally just soup and because of the croutons it tasted like old soup. Bisque not recommended. The steak and asparagus on the other hand were very good and tender. All cooked to perfection. The wait staff was courteous and excused themselves every time they needed to reach over me to serve the other side. This place was recommended to me by a young lady at "Men are from Mars" at the mall when I bought a few shirts for the guys I work with. Really a good recommendation in case she ever reads this. We went there for a birthday dinner. I had two old fashioned which were pretty good and smelled awesome. I had steak and lobster tails which was pretty delicious too. I asked for medium and my steak was closed to well done. That was the only problem I had but I just ignored it. It is too expensive to eat here. Even with a $50 gift card our dinner was over $100 with a tip. It's ridiculous. We went there on our Valentines Day and there are NO handicapped spots left near the door and sometimes non handicapped people use the closest spots to the door, including the handicapped spot. Nothing is done about it. Also our vehicle was backed into by another customer and they sped away without dealing with the damage to our vehicle. The noise level was extremely high and we had to yell over the din just to hear each other speak. Not a great experience. If you have $150+ to spend go there or win the lottery and eat there often. Many deals don't allow you to get good sides and everything extra costs almost as much as another meal somewhere else. Con: Total cost: $150+ and $2000 damage to vehicle. Not worth it. The worst Keg experience I've ever had. First, the table was dirty and we asked for it to be cleaned. We were given a moist cloth and then were asked to wipe it down ourselves. Things went down from there. The waiter was snarky. We informed him that we were still waiting for another guest. He proceeded to tell us the specials and we told him to wait. The waiter told us to share the information with our guest when our guest arrived because he was too tired to repeat it. We ordered drinks and were given a Gin and tonic in a scotch glass. We said that we would like to order an appetizer and the waiter never came back to take our order. The food we ordered was mediocre. The meat was undercooked and everything was on the rare to very rare side. The waiter never came back to ask us about our experience. read more

We always, and I mean always receive excellent service here. Sure, occasionally something needs to be remade but it is always handled with courtesy. 9/10 times I order a steak elsewhere the in city, I end up being disappointed and know that I should've just come to the Keg. The rotating/seasonal menu is fun to try but I tend to go back to my tried and true, Oscar Sirloin. What could be better than seafood, asparagues, and Bernaise sauce lovingly laid upon a perfectly cooked medium-rare siroloin? I also love their appetizer variety and dessert menu - Ice Cream Pie anyone? The Keg is always great for a group birthday dinner - something to please everyone for sure. Keep in mind, they don't do reservations so you may need to wait a bit or grab one of the buzzers and head next door to Chapters to browse. Or of course, have a drink in the bar if there's room while you wait for a table. Another tip is have them plate your order in 2! Came here after hearing that this place offers some of the best steak in town. Parking can be a bit tight during dinner time, but there are spaces for sure. The place was surprisingly packed on a Wednesday night. The feel is quite cozy, with the sheer number of people. Our waiter was an older gentleman sporting a tie. He was very professional. He checked up on us when promised, and even topped up our drinks without our asking. Excellent service. So why 3 stars? The rib steak I ordered was dry. I asked for a rare, but it was more like medium. This was unfortunately the case throughout the entire steak. The mushrooms were excellent, but the fries were also mediocre in terms of texture and crispiness (not taste). One thing I will give them credit for is how they go easy on the salt. I wish more chains would do this. I also tried some double-baked potato, and this is very delicious. Just don't think about the calories. The one item you must get though is the Billy Miner pie. Not sure how a delicious coffee cake can be tied to a train robber, but this is seriously awesome. (the other place with a great coffee cake is Ric's Grill) The atmosphere is excellent, but some of the food could use a bit of improvement. With that said, the experience was satisfactory. read more

Huge shout out to Sam & Holly!! They were the best ever- my husband and I had such a great time. Escargot Special 16oz spare rib with mashed cheesy potatoes with leeks and a mushroom gravy and asparagus. Steak and lobster for the husband. Everything was sooo sooo good. Decided on this location for our anniversary sitting in the lounge. We arrived during peak dinner hours and when the first table was a little too crowded, our wait was very short for an alternate table. Waiter was very friendly and our food arrived quickly. My lobster dish that I ordered however arrived cold whereas my husband's was fresh and piping hot. This was mentioned to the waiter who quickly took my cold plate, offered some more bread and had the kitchen re-fire a new dish. My second plate arrived quite quickly and was piping hot and even better than the first. The Manager came to discuss the situation and even though the second plate was more than satisfactory, removed the $54 dish from our bill and apologized again. Wow - amazing and caring service. We definitely will come back again and again and highly recommend this location as we've been here many times, this being the first with an issue and it was handled so appreciatively. read more

Decided to try this place at about 9pm on a Friday night. We should've made reservations but we didn't do our research early enough. The wait was about 30 minutes but when your hungry that feels like eternity. The restaurant itself is rather dark and very chilly but the food and service definitely made up for that. Our server (I wish I got his name) was extremely helpful and friendly. He made suggestions and even divided the bill between the 7 of us without us asking. Honestly, most places make you feel bad when you ask them to split checks but he was a step ahead. We ordered several different steak plates and it was so delicious that not one person had leftovers. We wiped our plates clean in less than ten minutes. It's about $30-$40 a plate which is definitely well worth it. The meat was tender and juicy and I must say they have the best twice baked potatoes I've ever tasted. The only thing that left me disappointed was that they don't have this place back home in America. read more

Been going to Keg's for a long time now... We were able to make a reservation for prime time ie: 6ish on a Friday evening. Arrived to find a large number of people waiting, and the restaurant was packed. We had arrived a bit early and we were fully expecting to sit in the bar to wait for our table... but No, seated immediately ! We were seated and our very chipper server was immediately at the table. She explained the specials and took our drink orders. Drinks arrived and food order was placed. Bread was deposited on the table as well. In no time out salads were on the table. I had the iceburg wedge and my wife had the ceasar. Both were very good and large portions. We had no sooner finished the salads and our mains were on the table. We had both decided to go for the Prime Rib. Both were cooked to perfection ! Had the double stuffed potato and there were some beans, red peppers, and mushrooms. Amazing food. The portion sizes here are huge. So bring your appetite. In reality we could have shared a main . We were offered a dessert but due to the enormous potions, there was no way we could fit more in. Overall, I like the Keg and pretty much every location I've been to, I've had a very similar experience. Very Good food, albeit large portion sizes, and very good service. The one thing about the west Edmonton location is that the noise level when it's really busy if very loud. My husband and I had lots of time to have a nice dinner so we decided to come here. We know they don't take reservations for two and they told us they want as many walk-in's as possible. It was a Sat. night around 7:15 and people were blocking the door way as they waited for a table. You can also choose to sit in the bar although it is more noisy and crowded. We put down our name for the restaurant side and got one of those buzzers as the wait was about 45 min. We went over to Chapter's which is just next door to look around while waiting. Since the place was so busy, it was a bit noisy but our table was far apart enough that we could have our own conversation without hearing others. Once our table was ready, we were greeted quickly by our friendly waiter. He took our drink order, made some suggestions from the menu and then brought us some warm ciabatta bread with butter. The drink menu was quite extensive and had many wine choices for under $8 a glass. We order the Keg classic which includes a salad and one side accompaniment along with vegetables and mushrooms. The other entree choices do not come with a salad. The top sirloin was good and the prime rib comes medium rare but if you want it more cooked, they will cook it with the jus. The mushrooms were very tasty and so was the green beans and red peppers. We did not feel rushed to enjoy our dinner and the waiter was very attentive in refilling our drinks and water. I just had one of the best steaks I have ever had. It was the bone in ribeye cooked rare. I asked for a side of fries and a dipping sauce. The waiter brought me back a mix of Jack Daniels BBQ sauce and a cheesy butter sauce, but both paled in comparison to the bernaise sauce that came with my wife's meal.... But I give the waiter 5 stars for real effort! I had a great wine recommendation including samples, we went for a different wine (Beringer knights valley 2011). I also got recommended an amazing glenmorangie scotch for desert while my wife had the best brownie I have ever stolen off her plate. I can't wait to go back! read more

We arrived after 8PM on a Saturday evening and were told it would be a 15 minute wait. It wasn't much longer than that we were seated. There's the bar section and the restaurant. The restaurant can get noisy. We were seated one side being a booth and the other a chair. What I didn't like was the close proximity of the tables beside us. On the one side it was separated by a glass divide but I could clearly hear the conversation and the food in their table. If you are looking for a quaint meal, this may not be the place for it. We waited patiently for our server and she apologized for the wait when she arrived. When we gave her our order, she informed us the kitchen was behind and the food could take 30 minutes. Luckily, the food arrived about 15 minutes later. I ordered the Chicken Oscar with shrimp, scallops, and béarnaise sauce. It also came with the skinniest asparagus stalks I've ever seen. Since I wasn't sure about the sauce, I asked for it on the side. When I informed the server a different sauce was provided, she came back with the correct one. The food was very good with lots of shrimp and scallop. I didn't finish my meal and had room for a mini passion fruit crème brulee. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be as I couldn't really taste much of the passion fruit. For 2 meals and 2 desserts, the meal came to about $65 so quite reasonable. We didn't tell them it was our anniversary until after but if you do, they provide 2 glasses of champagne and if it's a birthday celebration, I believe they provide a free dessert. The meal and service were great but I didn't enjoy the layout and the noise. Next time I would consider another Keg location. read more

We came to celebrate my Grandma's 92nd birthday, and they didn't disappoint. The service here is great, the drinks are made very nicely (make sure you get them in the double Keg size,) and the food is top notch no matter what you order from the menu. It is on the pricier side for fair warning, but this is a great choice for any special occasions in life you wanna celebrate properly. Definitely head on over and enjoy one of the nicest places to eat here in Edmonton! read more

Great experience as always. Stuffed mushrooms with garlic cheese bread is a must for appetizer

This is the first review I will leave for the Keg that isn't amazing. :( We waited 90 mins for a table, which is no problem at dinner time. The problems arose when we were seated only to be informed that they were out of a large number of items on the menu, in addition to being out of the complimentary bread. Very disappointing to hear when you've waited an hour and a half with specific items in mind to order, and you're waiting to take the edge off your hunger with the bread! It didn't end with the food items, they were out of several bar items, and drinks were made without certain items listed in the menu. The steaks were all enjoyable, however none were cooked to our requested specifications. Luckily we aren't fussy, and we were very hungry so just we ate without sending them back to be corrected. We come to the keg at least twice a year, and this time had out of country guests who we had given high expectations to about the Keg. It was disappointing to encounter so many shortcomings with guests in tow. read more

Wow! Lovely waiter and manager! The service was slow and sometimes I think we were forgotten but the waiter was incredibly friendly. When I was asked how my steak was I honestly, and embarrassingly, said it was a bit well done and dry. I never like to complain about my food but I had ordered medium rare and like it more juicy. I was very hungry and wanted to eat with my family so when they offered to remake it I declined. Then they offered me a steak to take home! It went well and above what I was ever expecting because they gave me a full meal! It was also my mother's birthday and we got a huge piece of whipped ice cake for her birthday on the house.
