We came here for Edmonton Downtown Dining week, which is a good plan for this place if you are not a picky eater. You can have a lovely meal with a reduced cost but it is a fixed menu. You can't beat the atmosphere here on a clear day. The restaurant revolves and so in the time of your meal, you will have revolved around. (The revolution takes about an hour). The inside is plain, but you don't need much for decor when you have the entire city to see. Service was excellent. They were prompt and helpful. They were particularly kind to my daughter who is disabled and treated her really warmly. So I am just commenting on the food for the Downtown dining menu, which might be slightly different than what you would experience on a daily basis. We loved the rolls with the herb oil. I am sure this come complementary with all dinners. We had the crispy shrimp mousse with apple mint salad and spiced fish sauce. This was excellent. Refreshing and flavourful, the perfect start to liven up the taste buds. For the main meal it was duck confit with plum, maple syrup, with angel hair pasta and the vegetable of the day. The duck was so soft and delectable. My only small issue was the pasta was fairly bland, so I could have had more of the plum/maple syrup sauce on it. Dessert was a passionfruit eclair with pistachio praline. This was delectable. This is a great place for a splurge meal. read more

Our server DEAN - WOW, this guy was really incredible in service and attention to detail. I went with my family, and he instantly asked if we wanted hot water (instead of the usual cold water) proactively recognizing older Asian clientele prefer warm beverages. The restaurant is full of memories for me, it's definitely a big occasion kind of place for me. I've seen live piano and the excitement of rotating around a city view is so relaxing. My family does have a tendency for motion sickness and even with the slow pace of the rotation they still felt it a bit. But previous visits the food is always astounding and the service spot on. This visit had a really chill server that didn't rush us. Even when we decided to only order drinks. Lemon meringue pie drink was amazing! Tart, almost zesty sweet. My uncle took the family for brunch at the fancy spinning restaurant! First off I must say the hotel looks dated and pretty shady. I was dressed in a blazer and felt WAY out of place in the lobby. Getting off the elevator, you are right in the restaurant. There is no waiting place so make sure you go right on time for your reservation. From the look of the hotel lobby, I was expecting the restaurant to follow suit, however it looked very bright and elegant. The buffet is right in front of you as you exit the elevator. For the price, I was expecting a lot more variety. There were about 6 to 7 hot plates, a salad bar, dessert table and egg station. Service was okay. If you are celebrating a special occasion they allow you to bring a bottle of champagne but charge corkage fee. Food quality was pretty good, but again for the price point nothing extraordinary. Met a friend downtown for breakfast Sunday and she said she has never been here before so we decided to go here (after we had breakfast) for coffee at 10:30AM when they opened. They were just getting their big Sunday brunch buffet ready and the manager was not nice at all and gave a Lot of attitude when we said we were there for coffee. He said we could stay but he needed the table but 11:30AM - it was 10:35AM. We said fine. Place slowly got busier but did not even reach 50% full by 11:30AM but we left anyway. Would have been nice if the manager came back and said we could stay longer but he never showed his face. Not impressed. Our actual server was the best. Super kind, helpful, patient, upbeat. Really nice guy. We had coffees - $4.50. And I tried the Annex saskatoon lemonade - was fine, not to sweet or tart so kind of on the bland side. Friend got the Annex Ginger beer but also reported it needed more ginger taste. "Wheel in the sky keeps on turnin'" My "Journey" to Edmonton brought six of us here for dinner last night. La Ronde sure is like a big wheel in the sky, turning ever so slowly as it revolves to give you a tremendous 360 degree panorama of Edmonton. It's on the 24th floor of the Chateau Lacombe Hotel and revolves once every 88 minutes. The dining tables are set up on the outer ring of the circular restaurant, so every table is right on the glass wall overlooking the city. The view through the restaurant's glass walls is wonderful, and we found it to be an appropriate match to the outstanding service and excellent food we found inside those glass walls. We asked our server what his favorite menu choices were and he said La Ronde is noted for it's Prime Rib and Baked Arctic Char. My table overwhelmingly went for the beef choices, and the Prime Rib, Bison Tenderloin, Mignonettes of Alberta Beef all looked amazing. One of our dining companions went for the Caesar Salad (#12 Small or $14 Large) that drew a lot of attention because it looked so good - two giant wedges of Romaine lettuce served with a "Prosciutto Chip" as big as your phone, plus a prodigious amount of shaved asiago. I've been here before as I held a stagette at five local places including this one a few years back. I remember it being good, but this visit exceeded my expectations times ten. The service, impeccable. My meal was mouth-watering quite literally. I chose the rib steak with a different choice of potato than originally served and I was not disappointed. Visited this restaurant while in Edmonton for shopping over he holidays, firstly I must say the idea of a revolving restaurant was absolutely fantastic. You get that full 360 view of the city during the day or night, it was an amazing experience. We had this witty, informative, succinct server named Jason and he was an absolute gem. Being my partner and I first visit to this location we needed a bit of an explanation on what La Ronde offered in terms of dining experience. We started out with their signature Caesar salad served with a crisp prosciutto bacon on top; which was small for the price point but, amazing nonetheless. We followed up with their bison tartare, which was so delicious and bursting with flavor. For my entree I had their charbroiled AAA Alberta strip loin served medium rare with salt and pepper added after it was cooked. With veggies and a side of their horseradish mashed potatoes. My partner had their specia pan seared King Cole Duck Breast and veggies on the side which was absolutely scrumptious. Overall the meals were amazing, the price point is slightly offputting; however we went for the revolving dining experience so it was worthwhile and the service was a "cut above". Ended my night with La Ronde's blueberry cheesecake, which I must say reigns supreme on my list of fave desserts. Went there recently for there jazz night. The view is amazing and the service is old school top notch. I was a little disappointed in the jazz and the food. The speaker ( so you can hear the live jazz when you are far away) was cracking so the music sounded bad and by the time we got around to see the musician he had strayed to take a long 40 minute break. My boyfriend brought me here for a surprise anniversary dinner. I was super excited! This was a special occasion! It was a chance to eat at Edmonton's only revolving rooftop restaurant! Unfortunately, this dinner experience was very much tainted by our less than enthusiastic server. In this case, good food and a spectacular view of the city were not enough to compensate for poor service. For a salad, we chose the Chateau Lacombe Style Caesar Salad (with heart of romaine, herb croutons, prosciutto chip, asiago cheese, and house made caesar dressing) for $13. The presentation was interesting. The plate had a large head of lettuce, on a bed of salad dressing, covered with asiago cheese shavings and large pieces of crispy prosciutto. There were a couple slices of lemon on the side. I enjoyed the crispy prosciutto chips. On the whole, I felt the salad tasted pretty average. For an appetizer, we decided on the Baked Double Cream Brie in Phyllo Pastry (with mulled blueberry gastrique) for $19. The presentation was quite beautiful, however it tasted kind of bland. For an entree, we picked the Roasted Rack of Lamb (with rosemary and dijon crust with gratin potatoes, cracked pepper and mint jus) for $50. This dish was beautifully plated with a 7 rib rack of lamb. The meat was tasty, well cooked, tender and juicy. The beans, carrots and potatoes were also good. For dessert, we had the Cherry and Baked Chocolate truffle (with Tanzanian truffle, lemon pound cake, cherry and Greek yogurt mousse) for $14. This dessert was beautifully presented. A delicate sugar sculpture held the mousse inside. When we smashed the sugar glass, the shards added a sweet crunch to the mousse, cake and truffle. The different flavors and textures mixed together well. I enjoyed this dessert. As the restaurant slowly revolved, I found myself feeling a bit nauseated. You can see the movement when you look at the flooring next to the windows. Our dinner took about an hour to arrive to our table. After we finished our meal, it took a while to get someone (the assistant maitre d') to pick up our money. Prior to this, our assigned server had made eye contact but failed to come assist us. My queasiness was more pronounced during these prolonged waiting periods. This is an expensive restaurant. When you come to a place like this, you expect a certain level of service. I'm not sure if our server was having an off day. I felt like he was just going through the motions. He didn't seem genuinely friendly or attentive. There were other tables celebrating birthdays and anniversaries next to us. There were also a few empty tables too. If someone is really busy, communication can help to promote patience and understanding. We didn't have much insight into what was going on with our server. We felt very disconnected. It was my anniversary with my boyfriend and I came here feeling excited. I left feeling confused, neglected and a bit sad. I felt awful because my boyfriend brought me here with the best intentions. My husband surprised me with an early Valentine's dinner at La Ronde as we weren't able to go out on the big day itself. We'd been there a few times before for special occasions and always enjoyed ourselves very much. There is a Mad Men old school glamour to the place with the rotating view of the city lights and river valley--a very romantic atmosphere. Going there actually makes you want to dress up! The menu is a sophisticated spin on the classics. I started with a Mai Tai cocktail that was delicious (who knew!!). For an appie we shared the maple glazed pork belly and it was perfect. My husband really enjoyed his rack of lamb. I ordered the grilled wild boar chop with an apple blueberry compote. It was amazing---and huge! We ended up taking half of it home. We ended dinner with special coffees and sharing the Baked Alaska, something I'd heard of as a child but never got to try. La Ronde's version of this classic included blood orange and caramel ice cream, chocolate crumble, and ice wine foam. We were too full to finish it, but it was sooo good! One of my favourite restaurants for date night!! La Ronde is located on the top floor (24th floor) of the Crowne Plaza/Chateau Lacombe and, in my opinion, one of the must go to dining establishments in town. Part of the draw of La Ronde is the fact that it's a revolving restaurant, taking approx 90 minutes for a complete rotation, giving you a panoramic view of the city. It's interesting to go at different times of the year to see the beauty of each season. One time we went and had a great view of one of the condo buildings in construction that my husband worked on. La Ronde is fine dining and the prices and selection mirror that. I was pleased to see regional cuisine like bison, arctic char and pork on the menu, which is also reflected in their dessert options (Saskatoons!). Of course they have wines to complement your meal as well as a beer and spirits. Later in the evening entertainment takes place, usually in the form of a piano duo (singer) or instrumentalist with backup music. It adds to the atmosphere but at times can be a bit cheesy. Take your time to enjoy your meal and take advantage of the amazing scenery. read more

Having purchased brunch for two at a charity event, we finally booked a Sunday brunch and went on an eerily foggy morning for the 11 o'clock seating. We were shown to our table for two, which turned out to be less than 9 feet square and required us to be seated very close together at a 90 degree angle. Perhaps this works for a romantic dinner, but not what I wanted for brunch with my teenager. Asked to be moved and was given a larger table with very well worn chairs. The meal started with the best component - the orange juice. My son must have had 6 glasses. The coffee was good and the waiter was very quick to top it up. The buffet was - in a word - sad. A lifeless compilation of brunch and buffet former stars from the decades past, it is hard to think of any dish one would have been willing to order again off a menu. The roast turkey and sage stuffing in gravy was good in a second day of leftovers kind of way, but the turkey meat not bathed in gravy was so dry. The prime rib was so well done and the gravy was thick, dark brown with no taste of pan drippings. The breakfast offerings were not even mediocre. The hollandaise sauce on the eggs benny was a big glop of solidified butter. The seafood station featured previously frozen bits almost devoid of flavour. The desserts included uninteresting versions of black forest cake, carrot cake and awful looking trifle. And the cost others were paying for this feast of blandness - $75 for 2 before tip. read more

I've been here twice fairly recently, and both times were delicious. We went here for our small wedding reception and everything went perfectly. The service was great, food was delicious, and the evening was memorable. One of the reasons why I chose this place is because of the extensive menu (there's even a separate vegetarian menu - good for my sister) so everyone would find something they could enjoy. Wife and I had never been so we booked our 18th wedding anniversary for this past weekend. We ordered a nice bottle of wine and decided to share a ceasar salad and crab cakes. Both were excellent. Wife ordered the special which was a halibut dish and she gave it a 5 out of 5! I order the steak and asked for medium. Our waitress confirmed pink through and I said of course. What came was a juicy well done steak, with the faint hint of pink. I spoke to her about it and she said it was probably the lighting but this was clearly over cooked. She offered to have it redone but I didn't want to sit in front of my beautiful wife watching her eat, and then have my meal come out and then have her watch me eat. I fully expected that there would be a reduction on the bill as I saved them from redoing a new order but nothing was deducted. I am not sure I would go back just because of this. The moment you settle down in your seat, your server arrives, whose sole purpose in life appears to be only to guarantee you enjoy your experience and your meal to complete satisfaction. The staff at La Ronde are very friendly and extremely knowledge on menu items, fine dining etiquette, and land mark trivia. La Ronde provides with you a dining experience that cannot be compared to anything else in the city. The layout and décor is very elegant, and it leads the way as being one of the classiest dining locations in Edmonton. Catching a glimpse of the sun setting over downtown Edmonton is a breath taking display. The lights dim harmoniously in time with the sun setting, classic piano music gently plays in the background, then the night lights on downtown flicker to life- creating a very romantic atmosphere as you and your company. Keep in mind that the service and the atmosphere come at a price; the prices at La Ronde are not for those with a student budget. However, where else will you have a dining experience with such a view? Their dinner menu is somewhat limited as well. Most of their menu items have not changed in the past 8 years. That being said, what they do prepare (bison, crab legs, rack of lamb, and some vegetarian options) could pass through any 100-point inspection offered by a high end German auto dealership. Not only does your meal look good, it takes fantastic! Opt for the flambé option in the dessert menu (whisky based), and you will be entertained as your service glides a flambé kart right beside your table and prepares everything in front of your eyes (remember the server training mentioned earlier?). Sunday brunch is another milestone and must-go-to at La Ronde. Brunch items are not out of the ordinary, however they have such a wide selection; there is literally something for everyone...go there hungry! Dressing is also another key aspect to increase your dining experience. Gentlemen, you do not need to go full out in a penguin tuxedo and top hat, however a dress shirt and dress pants or 'business casual' and you would be in good company. Consistently good food and good customer service has always been a highlight for this restaurant. Much of this can be accredited to the friendly Swiss general manager, Hans Voegeli. He personally greets every visitor as they walk out of the elevator, and literally dedicates his life to making your experience a pleasant and much appreciated one. Here's the honest truth: La Ronde is classic. It always has been and it likely always will be. The food, while good, is traditional. It's not a place you'd go for the latest duck confit-kimchi-truffle salami innovative creation. It is, however, somewhere you'd go for the time-honoured classics: beef wellington, osso bucco, or pan-seared salmon. And, to be fair, La Ronde does these well. The Seafood Trio, with sashimi-style tuna, chilled spiced scallops, and marinated shrimp served on miso ice, wakame, and tempura "crunchies," was very good. The spiced scallops were my favourite and there were a number of unique textures combined in this dish. The crunchy wakame complemented the silky smooth sashimi; the tempura "crunchies" gave substance alongside the whipped wasabi. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish. The Alberta Rack of Lamb, mustard and herb-crusted with a triturate of potato and Tuscan jus, wasn't bad. The lamb was cooked perfectly and had a nice flavour on its own, but I wasn't a huge fan of the herb and mustard crust. This might be due to the fact that I'm a purist when it comes to lamb--rosemary, garlic, pepper, and rock salt is all I need--but I just found that it added too much, overpowering the flavour of the meat. Some of my dining partners found the dish too salty, but I'm a salt fiend, so that didn't faze me. The Chocolate Torte was classic. Beautiful chocolate with a very thin, delicate crust on the bottom. This was lovely when paired with the berry compote and sorbet accompanying the dish. Overall, it was a very good meal. The service was attentive, the Samurai Caesars (made with sake) were fabulous, and the company was top notch. read more

Once for a very important birthday party for a very important person and the second time to help my best friend's, now husband, plan out his surprise proposal to her. He asked me to find the fanciest and classy restaurant I've ever been to and La Ronde was the first restaurant to pop into my head. It is located on the very top level of Crowne Plaza Hotel and not only is the service exceptionally friendly and polite, the setting was absolutely gorgeous, the washrooms were past the par of clean to a point it makes you feel like you're entering yet another suite in a gigantic mansion and the view was phenomenal. To add to that already enchanting description . . the entire restaurant rotates. Mind you it doesn't rotate to a point where you feel the food start to climb back up from your stomach and out of your mouth again, (which i think is impossible seeing as the couple dishes i had there were just so tasty), it's a very nice, romantic, beautiful and enchanting place to have a fancy, private or special event with a loved one, some friends for a celebration or even by yourself if you felt like treating yourself to a fancy dinner one day. read more

We went for Mother's Day brunch on Sunday - there was five of us: a mother, a grandmother, two great grandmothers and an infant. We had a time-limit of two hours - or so I thought - however we were asked to leave at the 1 hour 45 minute mark since they had given the table away at 12:30. The man who asked us to leave was exceedingly rude. Who does a seating for a Mother's Day brunch in 90 minutes? Only those who place profit over service and loyalty, that's who! The buffet was acceptable - nothing that special. You can get most of what they offer at any regular buffet place...no need to spend $40 per person and then get asked to leave. Great food, exquisite service! Probably a one time thing for a special event. The view is fabulous! More fun if you have a smaller party.

La Ronde is an interesting restaurant in downtown Edmonton. It is on the top floor of the Crowne Plaza hotel and requires 2 separate elevators if you park in the hotels parking garage in order to get to it. I went here for my girlfriends birthday and we ordered the set "lovers" special they had for $150. Our waitress was very fast, friendly, and attentive. The appetizer was hit or miss with beef, spicy shrimp, and mussels but everything else was very delicious. Me and the girlfriend both loved the steak (which was cooked to perfection) and the after dinner adult coffee. I really enjoyed the chocolate cake with hazelnuts but it was too rich for the girlfriend. I like the whole spinning restaurant concept and this one does in fact rotate all the way around in 90 minutes providing an excellent view of downtown Edmonton, the North Saskatchewan river, and Strathcona. The restaurant was rather empty although it was a Sunday night so maybe the novelty has worn off on others but I definitely recommend trying La Ronde at least once while you are in Edmonton. read more

Be ready for a big bill, but oh man is it ever worth it. I brought my girlfriend here and we were astonished by the level of service they provided. The servers make it their life mission to keep you happy, I ordered the wild boar and I'm confident saying it was the best food I have ever eaten in my whole life. The restaurant is on the 24th floor. And the hotel parking was $5, so not too bad. Our reservation was for 7pm, but we arrived at 6:30pm and were seated immediately next to a window. It was raining when we arrived, but you couldn't tell it was raining when looking out the restaurant windows. The view was beautiful! And our server, Dean, was fantastic! Great conversation and service! There's nothing worse than a server who hates their job, but you could tell that Dean really wanted to be there and was passionate about what he was doing. He recommended the prime rib, and said it was the best in the city. So, we ordered 2 prime ribs, and the oka and Brie cheese appetizer. OMG SO TASTY! We also ordered mango cheesecake with pineapple bits, and the chocolate pavé. Both were delicious and I've never had any cheesecake like that before. It was interesting and refreshing! I really don't understand these other reviews knocking on the food, because it was delicious! We made 2 full rotations in the restaurant and was never rushed. We got to see the city in the sunlight in the first rotation and the city lit up at night on the second rotation. We will definitely come here again! read more

Can't say enough about this place! The perfect dining experience!! I'd recommend the bison steak

Date night! We dined at the La Ronde on New Years eve during the early dinner. We snagged the last reservation and was so pleasantly surprised when we arrived and were seated at a table for 4 with a partition behind us and the beautiful view next to us...we felt like we got a semi private table this way. First off, I was excited to dine on the 24th floor of a hotel, but the fact that the restaurant revolved and took us on an hour and a half long journey from the heart of downtown to the breathtaking Edmonton River Valley, was just a unique experience that every Edmontonian should experience once. I will admit, I felt a little queezy at first with the subtle movement, but I got over it by the time our food arrived. I got the Blackened Pacific Halibut and it was wonderful. The portion was excellent and the fish was perfectly prepared. My partner ordered Alberta "Sterling Silver" Prime Rib...and he commented that it was the best prime rib he has had in his 15 years in Alberta. His portion was much larger than mine, but we both decided that the Yorkshire pudding was awful and we didn't finish it. But in the end our $120 meal was totally worth it. It was romantic, it was a unique experience, and the food and service were spot on. This being my second visit to the La Ronde and found that both the brunch buffet and dinner are well worth the price. Check it out and enjoy a birds eye view of our beautiful city while fine dining. I really struggled in deciding whether to give La Ronde three stars or four. In the end, four stars won out because this is the only revolving restaurant in Edmonton, and it is my hometown after all. I would have given La Ronde five stars, if I hadn't lived in Vancouver and experienced their revolving restaurants. Yes, I'm a city snob, that's what big cities like Vancouver do to you. My friends and I had dessert and drinks here one night, because in my experience, fancy restaurants deliver aesthetics, and not so much flavour. We weren't disappointed. My cheesecake was to die for, it was so soft and creamy, and not too sweet, with just the right amount of sauce on it. I can't remember what my friend had, but hers was the most aesthetic out of all of ours; it had this crispy, caramelized mound of angel hair on it. The view was beautiful, although there aren't any mountains or bodies of water (besides the Saskatchewan river) to look at. I think most of the thrill of this place comes from being so high up, and the slight movement you feel as the restaurant slowly does its 360. We enjoyed our night out at La Ronde, but we haven't been back since. My friend agrees with me that once you experience it in Vancouver, it's unfortunately just not the same here. But since La Ronde is the only revolving restaurant we have here, I say one should go for it at least once. Hey, you take what you can get, right? read more

I was very disappointed with the Sunday brunch. For the price 45$, I expected a lot more variety. The eggs Benedict seemed to have missed getting any sauce on it and were well done. Limited desserts. Very disappointed. The service was also bad. Didn't come to remove used plates, we had to put on another table and rarely came to refill coffee and water. read more
