My husband and I dined in La Antigua tonight. We then asked for two to-go boxes for the leftovers. The waitress then charged us $0.80 on the bill. When we questioned this matter at the front desk, the lady said the rule was set by the owner and there's sign somewhere. Unfortunately, she couldn't show us where the sign was. I feel it doesn't make sense to pay 40 cents for one to-go box for dine in customers. I have been dined in so many restaurants but never encounter this kind of unreasonable charge. These are our must orders: Appetizer: Seafood nachos: cheesey goodness on top of a bed of shrimp and the crispy nachos are the best! Shrimp cocktail: similar vibes to their salsa but is yummy, not quite enough shrimp and avocados in the cocktail but can always get more crackers. Entree: Fajita a la parrilla: meat and veggies comes on a sizzling pan with delicious coat of sauce. (2 tortillas included) The sizing of the portions is huge- we ordered appetizers and shared two 2 person portions for 9 people. One portion is good for two people at least. Order the fajitas a la mexicana if you don't want something with sauce. Other highlights: we also enjoy their endless salsa and chips and usually fill up on it before the food gets there. read more

We stopped in here on a trip from Corpus to Galveston. Great choice. The staff was so friendly from start to finish. The food was quick and fresh and cheap. The tea was great. I'm glad we stopped in here. I will be back on my next trip this way. We got the #6 lunch special and it was great. Only complaint was that the hot sauce had too much cumin for my taste!! Service was terrible. Ordered queso and the waitress brought it out, lukewarm. We waited another 15 minutes for chips to eat it with and by that time it was cold and inedible. I usually enjoy this place, however I ordered something different this afternoon. I ordered beef fajitas quesadillas with rice & beans. Both side dishes tasted like they had been scorched. The quesadilla looked terrible, looked like a 3 year old cut it, the meat had no flavor & almost no grilled onion or cheese. I was truly disappointed. The worst Mexican food I've ever eaten. I should have known when the queso came out and it looked and tasted just like melted chemical cheese. The fajita meat is very low quality. The beef looked like roast beef, and the chicken looked like shredded chicken. It tasted worse than it looked. My whole family left most of our food on the table. Just got to the table and waitress brought chips and salsa right away. The salsa is so fresh with cilantro and jalapenos. I could stand for it to be a little hotter but others in the group like it just like it is. We are three women out and about for the day in Port Lavaca, up from Rockport. We had no clue where to have lunch and saw LA Antiqua right on Hwy 35 and thought we would give it a try. We are so glad we did! The beef fajitas on the chalupa is very flavorful and tender. The shredded chicken enchilada was perfect with the gravy and white cheese melted on top! I usually eat a low carb diet but man, this is so good, I ate 2 days worth of carbs. The fajitas were full on authentic! I didn't touch the rice or beans and I ate the salad and beef fajitas off the top of the chalupa. What a pleasure! Hot, fresh off the grill and soooo tender! The other two ladies throughly enjoyed their meals, too! The portions are very generous and our plates were left about half full! Our waitress and the owner were attentive but not overbearing. Stopped through La Antigua to fix our craving for Tex Mex! Pros: We ordered the Beef Fajitas for two. We were pleasantly surprised by how deliciously tender the meat was! Couldn't stop eating it even after we filled our bellies. The salsa tasted freshly made and had just a touch of spice to it. Ordered the Mango Margarita and boy was it sweet. Pleasantly surprised by the marg. but be forewarned it comes in a glass bigger than your face. The service was wonderful. I've seen a few reviews about poor service but I find that hard to believe. Our servers (plural) were attentive and swift. Cons: We ordered the Queso and were very disappointed. The server came back and dropped off the "cheese dip" that we ordered and it was just that. Tasted like a block of cheddar cheese from the grocery store melted down. Yuck. I also didn't care for the refried beans. I've been going here since I was little - in my opinion, it's the best Tex-Mex restaurant of many in Port Lavaca. First of all, the salsa is incomparable; I have yet to find another restaurant that makes salsa this good. It is is definitely too spicy for some people, but if you can tolerate heat, it's delicious. When I visit this little town, I often take some salsa to go when I leave. Also, the chips and salsa are complimentary, and they refill it for free. If I was only rating this restaurant based on their salsa, I'd give it five stars, no doubt. Maybe it's because I've tried so many things on their menu, but I know some items are on point and some others are complete misses. Cubed chicken can be dry in burritos and tacos. The shrimp is not fresh despite the oceanside location... After some trial and error, I believe that the fajitas are the best thing to get from the menu - I usually get beef. They never fail to impress. The sauce on the Fajitas a la parilla is so cheesy and delicious, and if you don't mind treating yourself to something heavier I absolutely recommend. The flour tortillas are housemade and super tasty. And for the most part, all of the fajitas are delicious. I often hear people recommend the fried avocados, but I have found that the amount of cheese inside is a bit much for me, and the meat inside can be dry as well, so due to the inconsistency, I tend to stay away from it. From the appetizers section, if you don't mind frozen shrimp, the shrimp cocktail has a good taste, and the seafood nachos are delicious albeit a bit greasy. The beef caldo is really tasty as well, but the vegetables and potatoes are cut a bit large. Depending on how long it's stewed, the beef can be tougher, but for the most part, if it's ordered during dinner, it's usually great. I grew up with this Mexican food, so I have a soft spot for this location, and almost every time I come back to this town, I have to visit La Antigua. read more

Visited this place, ordered a beef fajita, tripa taco, and a lemonade. The lemonade was water with sugar and had no lemon flavor to it ( I don't know how customers can drink this). The beef fajita looked like shredded brisket, and the tripa taco was soaked in grease. The waitress did not check us on often (it was not busy at all when I was there). The other waitresses and waiters were sitting at a table gossiping and making fun if customers. Needless to say I would not recommend this place at at least not from my experience.
