Kamil is an incredible guy. I came in one day for a 12-point check as part of their yelp deal and not only did he tune up my car, but he fixed my air conditioner as a bonus. Since then I've come back for a check engine light and he noticed it was just a coolant problem, got it fixed and sent me to a friend of his to get my smog checked. Based on the reviews here I took my car there for oil change but he oddly refused to give me the receipt for the service. Later on I figured that he just did a cheap service for my $60. It says L.A. Auto Repair on the entrance sign and business card but they actually go by "John Automotive Service". There is actually some place else called LA Auto Repair (with no dots). I've been recommending this place to everyone via word of mouth - DUH why haven't I written a yelp review!!! I moved to LA as a single female - and what a scary combination to be when you're looking for a mechanic! I felt like such an easy target - and with how much I was now reliant on my car - this was a necessity! I stumbled upon this place with the intention of just getting my car washed and probably asked for an oil change. I left to get lunch across the street and Kamil called me back because he wanted to personally show me the oil that was leaking from under my car! That was the first clear sign I remember that he wanted to prove his honesty, that there genuinely was additional work required and his intentions are for the integrity of the car, and for me. I called my highly skeptical Dad put them on the phone with each other, and Kamil won over the trust of my father too! When good intentions are clear and there's no manipulation involved, it reads through. Kamil also price matched so if I found a better deal anywhere else, he would match it - so this was also great. Soon I began bringing my car to Kamil regularly, and I'd bring my work laptop and connect to the wifi in their office as I waited for the repairs. Kamil ordered lunch for me, himself, and the other women working in the office! and washed the car inside and out when it was done worked on. This soon became a regular routine where I've now come to expect a meal when I go over there! Another time, the car needed to be in over the weekend, and without any questions asked, Kamil lent me a loaner van to drive while my car was in the shop - this proved to be most helpful and saved me on any costs of having to rent a car! Finally, another great memory is when my car broke down on the west side in Culver City, and rather than me having to call a tow truck and also bearing those expenses, Kamil drove out in his car, repaired my car in front of my house so that it started again, and we drove back to the repair shop downtown so that he could properly assess and repair it. I don't know ANYONE that has that kind of loyalty in the car repair industry! He's such an honest man!!! It's such a fresh breath of relief to know that your car (and your wallet) is in the hands of someone that cares just as much as you, and your family, and you know that you are in safe hands when you are on the road!! 5+ Stars if I could give them - thank you Kamil!! read more

I showed up to the repair shop and the first thing one of the workers says to me is "you've got bedroom eyes. Wish they were in my bedroom!" ....extraordinarily unprofessional and sexually harassing. 5/22/2021 This is my second time being here. So I had came in to get my trunk fixed, my power steering fluid and motor oil hose replaced and my key switch replaced. In total I was charged $420 for everything. He told me it would be about $420 but in the event that it's a little more expensive he will charge me the difference. He also just wanted to charge me half as a guarantee that I won't do the business dirty which is understandable. I ended up giving him everything plus $20 giving him a total of $440 and told him if it's less than give me the difference. When I arrived to get my car back there was this lady walking around whom I've never seen before and the mechanic was showing me where he had done the replacements. As he is explaining this to me the lady walks by my car and from the passenger window pulls out her sweater from the passenger side. I immediately get into confrontation mode as I was worried she was robbing me in my face without knowing who I was. I asked the mechanic who she was and he said "that's my girlfriend." I was really upset because this lead me to believe that he had gone on a date and I was thinking "what the fuck? I gave you my car so you can do a job. NOT SO YOU CAN TAKE YOUR LADY FRIEND AND DO WHAT IM PAYING YOU FOR." Overall the work was done well but I am GREATLY DISPLEASED with my experience there and will no longer go there for business. Just the WORST experience. Firstly, I cannot wear a covid mask because I have a disability and thus exempt from wearing one. Despite me telling him that and exempt by laws of 82/20 of Ontario, this man STILL denied me further service. Before that, while waiting he decides to push me to wear a mask, and starts giving me medical advices on how wearing a mask is for everyone's safety! As if he is a medical professional! When i brought my high-mileage 2002 sienna in for brakes, they noticed a massive oil leak coming from the front of the engine and timing belt. TL;DR Kamil, the owner and mechanic, broke the law by: -not getting signed authorization before repairs -price gouging by severely overcharging for parts -not giving a receipt for tax evasion and later deniability (oh, and how he denied!). Don't go here. There are many more honest mechanics in the area. Be cautious of reviews that don't have a Check-In. This place has 10 5-star reviews by people who have only written 1 review (usually with no picture, 0 friends, and short buzzword reviews)... They're not legit. And learn from my mistakes: Make sure your next mechanic gets your signature to authorize specified repairs and gives you an itemized receipt where parts are not marked up more than 40% over market value. It's the law! ------------------------------------------------------------------ Today I confronted Kamil about price gouging, and he adamantly denied ever meeting me, let alone working on my car. I brought in direct proof that I was at L.A. Auto Repair, Inc. on the days I went in for the repair and pay him. I had phone logs, geotagged photos, Google Timeline GPS tracking, time-stamped chat logs, and of course, a Yelp Check-In on the day of the repair. Still, Kamil denied ever interacting with me. During the repair, Kamil said that if I paid him in cash it would be cheaper. I believed him and was dumb enough to forget to ask for a receipt. After doing research on this practice, I realized Kamil broke CA Bureau of Automotive Repair and general good business practice a few ways: 1. He did not have me sign any authorization to work on my vehicle before both initial and later (after he had found yet another broken item mid-repair) times he fixed my car. We had a verbal agreement, but state law says there must be written consent. 2. He also did not give me an receipt. It's law to provide receipts for any repair with all parts itemized so so you know exactly how much you're paying for each. 3. California state law says you cannot sell parts marked up over 40% its market value. Kamil sold me $60 parts for $160. That's a 167% mark-up. AKA price gouging. 4. He asked me to pay in cash, which without a receipt, is indicative of tax evasion. I wanted to confront Kamil with this information -- who knows, maybe he slipped up that day and I was also not an attentive customer. I had hoped for a refund of sorts for the repairs, but Kamil and another mechanic (who was YELLING at me. Like, flying spittle YELLING. To the point where Kamil yelled back "Fuck off! Fuck off!") were insistent they didn't know me and had never worked on my car. Again, I had a folder full of evidence to the contrary. Because of this denial, the conversation never got past a "You did this." "NAWWWWWWW EH-UHHH" "No, really." "BUT NO!" kindergarten level. Kamil finally broke and admitted he had seen me around his shop before (yeah, no shit, I was there for repairs). But he also said he was going to call the cops. A police car pulled into the lot and parked at an adjacent building. I thought the YELLING mechanic had called them. Kamil started walking towards them, and so did I. I explained the situation to the three officers (who turned out to not be there for our little dispute), and they told me it was a small claims issue (to be brought to court). They also supported me when I explained I was there for a refund, which is a perfectly legal practice, and was not disturbing the peace. During this time, Kamil slipped back into his garage, nervous and peeved. Kamil initially gives off an approachable, magnanimous air -- that's how he got me in the first place. But today, I saw his true self: shady, lying, rude, and manipulative. If you've had good business with him, good for both of you, but if you're looking for a mechanic to trust, TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. read more
