Everyone had PPE on and were so incredibly safe when scaling the trees and hedges. Clean up was very thorough. Majority of our fronds and hedge were processed by the chipper and hauled. Some simply scribbled a price on their business card, but JC Tree Experts emailed a detailed quote explaining exactly what work was included, debris hauled away, etc., photos of the trees to be worked on, arborist certification, and even their insurance certificate as evidence that the company and their employees were covered in the event of accident or injury on our property. This was by far more than any other company provided, and it was a clear indication of their level of professionalism. Theirs was not the lowest quote, but was much more reasonable than some. They arrived as scheduled to do the work - in fact, a little early. It was a large crew with two large trucks and a wood chipper. The crew confirmed the expectations with us and set to work. They were all cheerful and friendly, but worked quite efficiently, completing the work in less than an hour. Just like their competitors, they had come to the house in my absence and made an offer through Yelp chat. Lesson learned for me: don't assume everyone knows how to count trees. I was not present when they came to the house to do the work and they did the bait and switch on my wife, saying "your husband said 10 trees" (I never did, have the Yelp chat log to prove it) and our offer was for 10 (they didn't specify, the offer was for 'all', again, I have the log), "but it's really 16 trees, so the price goes up". With what they actually ended up charging us, they would have dropped to #5 in the ranking of offers and would have never gotten our business. In essence, they won it only because of either false pretenses, or because they failed at the basic task of counting trees.
