The store is nothing to look at but even that is authentic. There is a large round wood-toned Formica topped table in the center of the store for you to dine at but its really a take out place. You can purchase patties or cooked dishes ready to serve cafeteria style in hotel pans. It helps if you speak Haitian Creole but there is always someone who can help you in English with the basics. In my book, that is a plus, not a minus. I speak about three or four words of French and I have good hand gesturing skills and that seemed to be enough to get exactly what I wanted. Unfortunately I don't get to visit the Tasty Chicks frequently but when I drive down Alligator Alley I make it a point to stop in nearby Plantation for a refill of pies and a delicious take out meal. The store is maybe 10 minutes detour from the highway. The pies are single serving but also very inexpensive. At the time I purchased them last, they cost $1 each for chicken, fish or meat pie. The pastry is flaky and not overly buttery, perfect for a savory pie. I buy them by the three or four dozen unbaked and take them home. Even after months in the freezer, these pies bake up perfectly every time. The cooked food was really great too. I tried their stewed chicken dish. Its been a while so I cant give you the details but lets say that both my wife and I thoroughly cleaned our plates. That dish we ate at the big round table. I also highly recommend the grapefruit jam called Konfiti Chadeque that is produced locally in Miami and is featured prominently on the counter. Its possible to buy this elsewhere and even online but you will definitely pay more. I was so enamored of the Konfiti Chadeque that I made some at home that turned out pretty good though not quite as good as the commercial version. The jam is made out of the grapefruit pith - the bitter white part under the skin that is soaked in water several times before being cooked with anise stars and other spices. Its really special. My five star review is for food flavor, authenticity and friendly service, not for the decor or the elaborate selections. I haven't been there since the covid crisis and I hope that Tasty Chicks is still cooking up a storm every day. Go and try it out!
