I had passed Cali Burrito several times but didn't know much about it. My life was forever changed. My tried and true order is the 'Humbolt". It's perfect in every way and it appeases to vegetarians and meat eaters alike. I have turned several of my friends, family and coworkers on to Cali Burrito over the years. Id like to mention I lived in San Diego and the burritos in Allentown, Pa far exceeded any burrito found in the Golden State. I now live in Virginia Beach area and my love for Cali Burritos knows no distance. Yesterday, I had to take a drive into the area and you better believe I stopped in for a burrito. 720 miles, round trip and worth every mile.

It's not easy to figure out where the enrtance is. Okay, so I ordered the the ground beef tacos for $12 bucks. You get 2 tacos in a basket with tortilla chips. The chips are a bit weird and different, still not sure how much I liked them. Like Moe's, they have a salsa bar with 4 salsa choices along with various condiments. The salsa's are tasty and I like the flavor in all 3 I tried. I ordered tacos and what they brought to my table resembled a tacos, but the taco expectation ended there. These so called tacos, to me, aren't realy tacos at all. Their assembelled usinf both a hard shell and a soft shell (Taco Bell offers something similar). Whatever you call it, taco is not the thought that comed to mind when eating it. I was hungry and did manage to eat both of the tacos, but considered throwing out the 2nd taco. I was confused and unsure what I was eating. The ground beef wasn't bad, but my main complaint at a Mexican Eatery nearby (Plaza Azteca} is the same. The ground beef is unseasoned. This is fundamentally wrong to me. All the Taco Kits at the grocery store come with a seasoning packet to add to the ground beef when preparing the tacos. I left unhappy, that's not to say I wouldn't try their burrito's. They looked good as seen on other patrons tables. I'm 70 years old and the theme of Cali reminds me of the 60's/70's. The decor, interior, and interior are psychedelic. Retro throwback to the hippie days. The staff reflects that theme - they came across in a kind weird way to me; but not in a bad way! Their is no shortage of happy campers enjoying their lunch (I went at 1PM). It seems like a cult following which speaks to the freshness and quality of the food served. I'm still unsure what was in the alleged tacos I ate. Lol!

Within a few minutes we received menus and assistance with spice levels and items on the menu and for food i chose a few items. I started with a Chicken and cheese empanada. presentation was good and the flavor was OK but also isnt something i typically get. i didn't eat it right away and will say it's something that's best eaten the moment it hits the table. A few minutes later came the Flautas and i don't like to compare my food to other places but i couldn't help but think of my Fathers flautas when eating these. again, presentation is nice and they weren't inedible but it felt like something was missing. Minutes later came the Carnitas and barbacoa tacos with 1 of them being the carnitas and the rest barbacoa. The waitress recommended i eat the carnitas first then move onto the barbacoa. Doing just that i ate the carnitas and was immediately blown away. The Pico was well made and the flavor was something new, i couldn't compare nor think of something similar to its taste and that became my favorite thing there but moving forward the barbacoa was fairly the same as the flautas in the sense that something was missing. Presentation was good and the crunch on the tacos was just right; not too crispy, not too soft. My girlfriend has the Carne Asada plate with her rating being a 3/5 stating the carne asada was thinner than she prefers and portions being slightly uneven. Overall i'd give it a 3/5 but i give it a 4 due to excellent service. The ambiance is slightly lacking but is something that could improve overtime. For the price id say this place is a great choice for their tacos but some items are questionable. I would come back here again!

My girlfriend got three pork tacos with pineapple. They were stellar due to high-quality meat that was perfectly prepared. The pineapple added some great flavor to the dish without adding sweetness. My barbacoa burritto (no rice by choice) came heavy with exceptional meat and flavor. Absolutely incredible and well balanced. And their guacamole is phenomenal. Although we cannot wait to order from here again, we look forward to visiting the restaurant. I completely understand that the staff wants to finish up and get home. I also realize that arriving 20 minutes before closing is not ideal. Having worked in the hospitality industry for many years, I know better than to make a habit of that. That said, there were still guests dining in the restaurant, and from my perspective, turning away guests who are ready to order immediately before the posted closing time is disappointing. At our business, we would never turn away a guest during our posted operating hours. I wanted to share this feedback because we genuinely enjoy your restaurant and hope it can be taken in the spirit in which it's intended.
