I went here a few times before leaving this review as I really hoped it was just a bad couple times and that I was just unlucky with my previous times dining here. After 2 of the 3 times eating here I became very sick and they were both the times I ate the fish burritos. The other time i went there and didn't feel sick I just ate chips and salsa and had a few margaritas. The margaritas were good but other than that there was nothing positive about this place. Dined at old location for many years, food and service pretty good. The new location has lousy food and service. Meat in taco was brown slush and the red sauce for dipping was so hot no one could eat it -- I questioned the owner and he insisted nothing changed! What a way to lose business. read more

We used to visit here once in a while for lunch, but the service has deteriorated drastically. Once it got to the point where we had to get our own silverware, refill our own water, get more napkins, etc. we quit going. They used to have very reasonable lunch specials. The new building is fabulous, but the new staff is NOT, so we will NOT be going back. Clarification about the menu items and splitting-dish cost proved fruitless as we were charged for things we didn't want even though we stated that up front with our server. I reviewed this with the staff but was told there was nothing they could do. We were overwhelmed by the arrogance and rudeness. We left over half of our food (that was foist upon us) on the table since it was far from remarkable. read more

La Bamba is the worst place I have ever eaten at. Our waitress greeted us by saying sit where you want. Food was tasteless and looked liked slop. My wife tasted hers and decided to not eat it. The waitress said she would take it off the bill which we hadn't asked for so that was nice. But then she said she was told to charge us 4.95 for the chips and salsa. My food was bad as well but I'm a guy and I was hungry so I ate it. We always want to support our local businesses but not this one. Get a real cook and clean the place up or you will go under eventually. read more

Being new to Sandy we were looking for a great Mexican restaurant....this is definitely not one of them. My husband and I arrived when they first opened and being one of 2 tables, our service was decent. That quickly changed when a few more tables filled up. Our waitress was pulled in too many directions. We ordered fajitas which were okay...they came drenched in this red sauce that was oily and watch out if you're wearing white....the red sauce was so hot it was "popping" off the plate. We ran out of tortillas to finish our fajitas and flagged her down for more....she said it would cost extra (which was fine but I have never been charged for more tortillas in a mexican restaurant) and they never showed up. She dropped off our bill and obviously forgot about us ordering more tortillas. Good thing they weren't added to the bill. We definitely won't be back. read more

Can't recommend this restaurant. Had Bacon wrapped shrimp. It was totally overlooked. Could barely chew it. The service wasn't very good either. The manager kept trying to convince us why the shrimp was over cooked. Haha Pretty ridiculous. read more

A little on the expensive side, but there are quite a number of delicious sounding entrees. The food was pretty good, but the service was terrible (my only big issue with this place). I just had water (which they gave me a very tiny cup), then they have a pitcher up at the counter. So I had to walk across the restaurant 5 times just to refill my water. When we wanted to pay and leave, there was no cashier.... We waited 10 min. and didn't see a single employee. If I was the type to "dine-n-dash", this place would have made it ridiculously easy. But we just dropped the cash by the register (good thing we had exact change). Though the Chicken burrito's are completely STUFFED with chicken! I have never seen a burrito stuffed that full with meat. Granted there's not really anything else IN the burrito besides chicken, it's a good and bad thing. Kind of bland, since every bite is like just taking a bite of chicken, but on the contrary-well, it's a lot of chicken. If they were to spice up their menu and add a little flare to their entrees, I think this place would be delicious. read more

Dad and I each ordered a Mirror Pond on tap, both were completely flat. The server checked with her bartender and informed us that it was not flat. Told us we were wrong. If you don't mind the fact that a spoon was not provided to spoon up the 1/2 inch of murky liquid at the bottom of the Taco Salad shell, then this is the place for you. But that is after 4 pieces of chicken bone had to be retrieved from between the teeth. First one is rustic and forgiveable, but not 4 times. I'll be honest, I didn't go here for a while because the ratings were so low, but I'm glad I did. First off, the chips are really good and fresh and I love their salsa. Their menu is quite extensive and I liked that they had more than the typical "American style" combo meals. If I wanted a crispy taco and rice and beans I would go to Taco Bell. They have a lot of family recipes and I love how they serve the tortillas in a hand sewn hot pot style holder. Plus their margaritas are good. I feel stupid for not going sooner. read more

Awaiting the opening at the new location with anticipation as their former place was really shabby, dark, and probably dirty however, we thought the food overcame the negative issues. Very disappointed because it flipped - now the place is nice and bright and clean, but the food was awful. The 'chef' seemed to have an attitued which will definitely hurt their business - I had ordered a bean and rice burrito and got a huge black bean burrito with no rice or cheese. Their new restaurant is a block north of the highway. I like the authentic food and drinks a lot. There are 3 different moles, and plenty of good egg dishes served anytime. Entrees are fairly expensive, but quality. The Aguaca-Rita is the perfect summer drink: tequila, mescal, lime juice, agave nectar, and avocado blended smooth with ice. Heaven! read more

I ordered the tamale and enchilada combination plate and while the enchilada had good taste (chicken was a bit tough and soggy) the tamale was another story. Over cooked and some how burned around the edges, the tamale was unfortunately inedible. La Bamba's chips and salsa was actually the best part of the meal with the pico de gallo extremely chewy and guacamole stringy. Before the big move to their newest location we had eaten here as a family and the food had been better. It was extremely disappointing for the price. I went here last night with two friends, and was very displeased. We were told to "sit anywhere" by the hostess, and the place was packed (understandable since it was a Friday night) there were no open booths/tables other than one that still had dishes from previous people. We asked them to clean off the table, and they did. The service was fine the rest of the night. But our visit did end up with my friend getting food poisoning from them. He's been throwing up since about 3am. Will not be returning. read more

This is without any doubt the nastiest, dirtiest, most disgusting restaurant I have ever eaten at. The food is average and the chimichunga is stuffed with all white meat chicken chips and salsa are average but the problem i have is the service it sucks. La Bamba is one of the best restaurants in Sandy. That being said, there aren't that many good restaurants in Sandy. The food here is decent, not the best I've ever had, but tasty enough. What brings most people here, though, are the drinks! If you want a reasonably priced alcoholic beverage, that tastes pretty darn good too, this is your restaurant! My advice is, though, don't drink more than two of ANYTHING you order here, unless you are close enough to stumble home. One of their drinks is enough to put anyone well over the legal limit to drive. Just warnin you! As far as the service, well, it's a crap shoot. Some of the waiters/waitresses are nice and even chatty, but most of the time I find we have to flag someone down for more of anything we want. And one of the girls that brings chips/salsa and water to your table looks like she's irritated to even be there. 3 stars given only for the quality and price of the drinks. The food is pretty good. The chips that came with the salsa were kind of stale. Better then many mexican places I've been to in Portland.
