La Barbecue continues to be one of my all time favorite BBQ joints! My family enjoys hunting for great Texas BBQ. We have completed the 2017 and 2021 TX Monthly Top 50 BBQ list. We started the 2025 list and we are more than half-way through the list as of July 2026. On our recent BBQ quest to Austin, TX, my family stopped at our La Barbecue. This was our sixth time to visit over the past few years. I'm a Texas Trinity traditionalist. So we always order the brisket, ribs, and sausage. The brisket was out of this world good- great bark, nice smoke ring, well seasoned, very moist, and melt in your mouth tender. I am not exaggerating! It is a similar experience every time which is an astonishingly consistent feat for any BBQ joint. La Barbecue is world class. Ribs were equally excellent - smokey sweet and moist, tender. Even my wife was a fan and she is not big on ribs. The smoke is just right. There were three different types of sausage - traditional, jalapeno, and chipotle. We decided on the chipotle sausage which was deliciously juicy. I really enjoy the loose grind and texture of the sausage filling which reminded me of a chorizo. It had a nice snap to the casing. Friday bonus - free beer! The restaurant is quaint, warm, and inviting. We arrived about 20 minutes before they opened as we anticipated a historically long line. Luckily, we were first in line! The staff is fun and patient with listening to our order and answering questions. Parking was easy because we were early but the lot is small so be sure to scout out the parking situation to plan your options and Caesar Chavez St. can be very busy si you may have to park on side streets if the parking is full. Hat's off to the pitmasters and staff at La Barbecue. We can't wait to go back.
Went on a weekday afternoon not long after opening. There was already quite a line. It moved decently fast, but if it's a hot day, be prepared. It can get hot in the sun! They do come through the line and let you purchase drinks, which is nice. We waited probably 45 minutes. They only let the ordering parties come in, as they try to keep it a little more personal. It definitely seemed like they could improve the efficiency a little. We shared the brisket and pork La Chopped sandwiches to get to try different things. Also grabbed some pickles and potato salad. The portion for the price was pretty good. Flavors and tenderness of the meats were 10/10. The buns are potato buns, so that is an extra bonus to a plain white bun. All the sides seemed carefully prepared - no boring flavors here. While this is not a place I would frequent just because of the wait, it was really delicious. I liked that it's outside of downtown, and was relatively easy to park. If you have been thinking about it, do it! They definitely know their BBQ!
From Chicago, just moved to Kyle. We were in Austin and stumbled into lB for lunch. Here are some thoughts: -If this is average barbecue, then average barbecue in Texas is way better than great barbecue in Illinois! -There was a long line out the door on a hot afternoon. Luckily, they had ice water available. Line moves slowly. -Once we got inside, we were happy we waited. I got the beef brisket sandwich (9-10/10) with extra pickles and my wife got the pulled pork (7-8/10) with pickles and onions. -The beef brisket was so good it didn't need barbecue sauce : ) The pulled pork had a very strong pepper taste. -We also got a big pickle (4-5/10) as a side. I love pickles, but this one was average. -Service and price were both good. Highly, highly recommended!!
We really liked la Barbecue, although we weren't sure what made it worthy of a Michelin star. I couldn't find specifics when I looked it up. We realized the strategy was to order for pickup a day in advance so we wouldn't have to wait in the long line. We were 15 minutes late for our pickup time, and the food still wasn't ready. However, we waited five more minutes, and they gave us a full-sized bottle of barbecue sauce, which kind of made up for it. I also wasn't sure if they would've hurried up if we had arrived earlier. We ordered the sliced brisket sandwich, El Sancho Loco, and a pint of "shells & cheese." The sandwiches were really good, and the Sancho Loco sandwich was special in that it had chopped brisket, pulled pork, and sausage with red onions. The brisket was soft and juicy. The mac and cheese was great too. It had a unique spice to it from the poblanos. We enjoyed the tangy barbecue sauce that came in the bottle as well as a more smokey barbecue sauce that came in a small side cup. Our total was $48, and this was a good portion size for two people.
The food was good, the ambiance is questionable, and when you do finally get inside for service it was perfect. I personally didn't like the waiting period, most BBQ places that have an hour wait time are possibly under a canopy or have water close by or have somewhere to at least lean. This place had none. I am glad I went so I could check it off the list but I'd only comeback if I wanted to eat at an odd time of weekday and in the area. Pretty good coffee shop and brewery walking distance too!
It was ok. I gave it a little bit of a higher review because nothing was really that bad, but I was not impressed. It was good, but not Michelin quality. First of all, this place has a super small ordering area. While I appreciated the efficiency of the ordering once I got in there, they can only take one order at a time. This means that lines snake outside the place and it can take forever to order. I waited in line for about an hour. Not great, but not a dealbreaker. As for the food, the brisket and chipotle sausage were lukewarm by the time I got it to the table. I think they slice and handle the meats so much that it cools quicker. The meats tasted good, but the temperature might be the problem. The sausage was also way too crumbly, but it tasted great! The presentation of the meats could have been better, especially with LeRoy's doing it elevated. I really liked the mac and cheese. That was hot! I actually disliked the BBQ sauces. The original was fine, but the rest were too vinegary. People talk about the service being great. Maybe I was there on a bad day because the service was average. I didn't have an issue, but they didn't wow me. I also found out that I was supposed to get free beer? Where? Why did nobody tell me this? The one saving grace was compared to other higher end BBQ spots, this place was more economical. I paid about $30 for two meats, a drink, and a side. Not too bad! I think I wanted to like this place more, but was disappointed. I gave it a 4 because it was fine and had some good meats. However, it's not as good as LeRoy and I don't know why it (and Interstellar) have a star in the first place. It was fun to try, but I think I'm a one and done
My husband and I came here on July 4th at 3 pm and there was no line which was awesome. Downside of coming at such an odd hour is that they were basically out of all proteins except the chopped brisket and pulled pork. The chopped brisket was delicious and paired well with their pickled onions and the bbq sauces were top notch. Their outdoor patio is dog friendly which is a plus. The potato salad was just ok. I probably wouldn't get the potato salad again the next time I come but I definitely will be returning to try their other meats.
Meats are phenomenal. Brisket, ribs and sausage were done to perfection. Smash burger was tasty. Sauces have a kick and if you like spice it's perfect, not too spicy. I wish they had a sweet alternative tho bc it was a touch too spicy for me, I like it a bit sweeter. The sides are basic at best. The potato salad didn't have but a couple of chunks of potatoes. It was more like whipped potatoes with too much dill. Coleslaw was on the dryer sided, not silky and had a spicy flavor rather than sweet. For a table of 4, it was a no. The beans were a definite no for all. Water must be a premium, self serve outside, even if you're dining inside and not f the two canteens, I emptied the second one. Bc the employees aren't necessarily helpful, I didn't feel comfortable going back up there to ask for more water. The person who took our order was super friendly, meat cutter with the nose ring helped out with questions in a most pretentious manner and should remain in a non customer service role as pleasant communication is not his forte. Cashier had a robotic demeanor, not helpful or rude but directed me to the water without any warmth to her. It just isn't welcoming, considering we mentioned this was our first time here. Meat is worth the trip, but I would bring it home and enjoy the ambiance and sides in the comfort of your own home. I really can't say if they have air conditioning inside. It was quite warm and uncomfortable.
All around one of the most enjoyable meals of my life. If you like bbq then la barbecue is a must. The pork ribs are truly in contention for best pork rib I've had, and I'd absolutely entertain that argument for the other three items in the picture. Service was terrific, staff were outside handing out free waters (and even draft beer) to all the customers in line. 10/10
I found bbq SO DIFFICULT to acquire in Austin, even though it's around every corner. The barbecue places tend to be so popular that they either sell out or are closed on odd days. We visited La Barbecue, unplanned, on a suggestion from a local friend. You definitely have to have patience as we waited in line for about an hour before ordering and sitting down. There is a line that forms outside in the hot sun as they only let one customer group in at a time to order at the counter . However, they are thoughtful and they have some complementary umbrellas to help shade you while you're standing outside. Once you get inside the process includes ordering at the register, paying at the register and they will bring it out to your table. We arrived and joined the line around 1 PM and eat around 2 PM. By the time we ordered they added three items to the out of stock list (including the one item I was interested in). The food was fine for me. I'm sure it's so popular because it's amazing to people that love barbecue. I did enjoy the mac & cheese and the slices of bread that I ordered on the side. Overall, give yourself some extra time for parking in the tight parking lot adjacent as well as to wait in line for your food. Arrive early maybe that helps with reducing the wait time!
This is one of the best meals I've ever had. The chipotle shells and cheese has ruined Mac and cheese for me forever because it is by far the best I've ever had. The sausage, the brisket and pulled pork sandwich were both on point. Came here at 2 on a Wednesday and didn't have to wait at all. Vibe is chill, staff is friendly. Such a great experience.
I was so eager to try La Barbeque after its recent Michelin star acquisition! We got there shortly before 5pm but the line was already out the door and they'd run out of everything except pulled pork and chili. This was a bummer, but we made the best of it and had pulled pork sandwiches + a pint of chili to share. Pulled pork was tender and good, but the chili to me was the winner. Super flavorful and very delicious! Sides were average IMO - potato salad was too mustard heavy for my liking and black beans were just basic, nothing special. We didn't take advantage of this but they also offer customers free beer with the meal. Make sure you do your research and arrive here early if you want to try the chopped brisket which is what they're actually known for! We will be back to give it another try.
My friend and I headed over to la Barbecue (that's pronounced L.A. not like lala land) after hearing that their BBQ is the best in Austin! Now when doing BBQ spots in Austin, everyone wants to know about the wait! We went on a Saturday right around Noon and ended up waiting 90 minutes in line to order. Their playlist was soooo~ good though! Myself and others in line were boppin' to Keyshia Cole & Billie Eilish which made the wait not half bad. The brisket is nice and juicy. Pork ribs were also nicely seasoned, plump and lovely. I really like that they had 4 options of BBQ sauces and enjoyed trying them all. Admittedly though I enjoyed the basic one the best on my proteins. The mac & cheese was spicy and so cheesy, loved this and enjoyed it as leftovers, too! And then I met my match. They only serve the Beef Ribs on weekends (Fri, Sat, Sun) and I so highly recommend them. Oh my goodness, it was the best thing ever. The thick crust was so full of well seasoned flavor, it was heavenly. I wish I could eat this every day for the rest of my life. Open a LA la Barbecue please! :P Staff was nice, food was worth the wait and even the bathrooms were cool here.
What a great Austin BBQ experience! My bro was in town from NY and we've been to Terry Black's several times but wanted to try other cool spots here. Interstellar, which is bonkers how good it is was on vacation so La Barbecue got the nod. For August it wasn't too bad (under 95 deg F) so the 40 minute wait was fine. Lots of Austin folks in the line with tons of mustaches which we got a kick out of (maybe it's homage to Freddy Mercury). Anyway, they give a sample of brisket and first thing I noticed was that it was fattier than other briskets - but that made it super tender and it had a great kick to it. So, we went with a pretty standard BBQ plate (photo below) of 1 lb brisket, jalepeno sausage, slaw, pickle, mac & cheese, onions and beans. Also got a couple potato buns to throw a sandwich together. In general, La BBQ food has a great kick/spice to it which we loved. As expected, everything was absolutely fantastic! Really fun vibe, friendly Texans, and a nice decor. I would absolutely take more friends & family here when they visit and can't wait to come back! As far as rankings, it's way up there with the top spots for me, but i would put it a bit behind Terry Black's for brisket as I would prefer a bit less fat (but still loved it!), but the mac and cheese and slaw are probably tops. read more
Sunday 7/28/2024 After my visit last year, I left Austin with the opinion that La barbecue was the best Texas bbq but now I'm back to see if my view still holds up. The service was pretty good. They offer you a small sample of their brisket and they were nice & friendly. I was hoping to try their beef ribs but I arrived at 3 pm which was too late as they were all sold out. I wanted to get a little bit of everything so I got a quarter of: brisket $9.18, pork rib $7.50, turkey $8.10, a side of shells & cheese $5.50, and a jalapeño sausage link $5.25 for a total of $38.46. - The brisket was good: it was tender, flavorful and moist. - The pork rib was pretty good and it might've been my favorite item there (either that or the Brisket). It was a tender and flavorful rib. - The turkey was moist and is likely the best turkey I've had across all my bbq visits. - The shells & cheese was pretty damn good and it's probably the best Mac n cheese I've had when it comes to bbq in general. The Mac n cheese is flavorful, tasty, seasoned, cheesy, and creamy. - The jalapeño sausage was disappointing and it my least favorite item by far. I didn't really mess with the flavor and taste of it. Overall, I can confirm that La barbecue is STILL the best Texas bbq spot that I've experienced. This is a spot that I would surely recommend and return if I'm ever back in the area. Make sure to at least try the ribs, brisket, and shells & cheese on your visit. read more

I ate everything I ordered in less than 10 minutes. Normally I'd pick apart what my taste buds had just gone through, but it was hard to savor and hold back since everything was exactly what I wanted it to be. I went with the sliced brisket sandwich, which had smoke, tenderness, umami, and perfectly balanced accoutrements in the form of pickles and raw white onion. I was glad I dined in because bottles of golden barbecue, barbecue, jalapeño, and vinegar were already stationed at each table. The shells and cheese had just epic queso. Not too thick, and thoroughly seasoned. As a New Jersey native I wanted firmer pasta but it's not a big deal. Other places have far longer waits. Here, you can preorder the day before. If you designate the time you'll show up (I chose 11:30a) then you can have your food effectively right away. They let me add a drink to that preorder when I was physically in the store; I bet I could've added another side dish if I had asked. I also had a Paloma, which I personally prefer to be stronger. My friend and I woke up early to stand in line for this BBQ place we've been hearing about over and over. We stood in line for about 75 minutes until we began eating, and it was WELL WORTH the wait! Being from Kansas City, I'm very critical about BBQ. I can say with full confidence that this is the BEST BBQ I've ever had! The servers were very nice and accommodating, the restaurant was clean and easy to navigate, and the food was unbelievable. I highly recommend the brisket! read more

Expect to wait an hour in line. There was not that many people in front of me, but the line was moving at a snail's pace. Also, expect to pay a small fortune. I paid $30 for two slices of brisket, one small pork rib, and a small side of Sweet Pepper Cucumber Kimchi. All of it was excellent and was comparable to other popular Austin bbq joints. The rib was my favorite. Although the food was great, I don't see myself coming here again, because of how slow the line was. The highlight of my visit was actually the bathroom. The place opened at 11 am on Sunday. We got there at 11:02 and the line was wrapped around the corner of the building and down the street. That told us all we needed to know. There is only one party allowed at a time inside the door where you order at the counter. The line moves very slow. We waited in line for almost exactly two hours. Once you order, the food is given to you on a tray right away. By the time we got to the counter, all of the homemade sausage was sold out. My husband got the last beef ribs. They give you a free sample of brisket when ordering. That free sample made me switch from pulled pork to brisket because it melts in your mouth. So good. I ordered the frito pie which is just like a walking taco. Quite spicy with the jalepenos. My husband got beef and pork ribs as well as brisket. We also got sides of beans and Mac and cheese. Both good. The Mac and cheese is liquidy but delish. Some people seemed to have ordered online ahead of time, pick it up, and eat it here. Smart move. read more
As we all know, BBQ is a staple of Texas cuisine and across the South so many folks are very particular about the bbq, fixin's, sides, and sweet tea. I might not have had sweet tea on this bbq adventure, but I can tell y'all that this was one of the all time best bbq moments I've had in my young 34 years of life. To be typing this review and salivating on the spiciness, flavors, and bbq program at la Barbecue, I just think I have to make a trip back asap. This place is ran like a smooth machine and you can't deny everyone else's eagerness to dig into their own orders. There's limited parking adjacent to la Barbecue but come with enough time and you'll see there's a paid parking lot across the street. There are no reservations here, no pre-pay moments except for large orders, but one singular line where one group at a time is allowed in to place an order for one of the best bbq meals of their life. With plenty of seating inside and outside, your group will be good to go. Outside you'll find a water station with utensils, parchment paper, and napkins. You'll then be blessed with your own set of signature bbq sauces. I had the honor to place an order for my friend and I, so when it was finally my turn to be graced by the bbq council of sauciness, I was presented a piece of their brisket before being allowed to order. Once that delicious cut of meat, ever so tender and juicy, without any bbq sauce touched my mouth, my eyes lit up with absolute glee. The proteins we opted for was their brisket, classic sausage, and turkey. All were delicious and 5-star moments but I'm still dreaming of that housemade sausage with the best spice in your life. None of that grocery store flavor here, hell no, this will have you breathing in and out but still craving more. The brisket just about fell apart in your mouth because that's how tender it was. As for the sides, we went for just about all of them. And every single one could hold up on It's own! This is why I honestly think why la Barbecue is in a league of Its own, and It's because their whole menu compliments each other. Every item on their menu is well made and their flavor palettes are stupid good. Whether you're travelling or a local, this is a true bbq experience that everyone should experience more than once in their life. On a side note-- you should make it a point to use the restroom. Yet another 1 Michelin Star bbq place. The brisket was super moist and very tender, heavy on the pepper and needed more salt 8/10. Sausage was crumbly and reminiscent of chorizo, decent flavor 6.9/10. Pork ribs was the favorite, super juicy and tender with a great texture 9/10. Potato salad was mustard base and I'm not a fan, but others may like that flavor. Another favorite was the Mac and Cheese, Mac cooked excellently and the cheese sauce at jalapeño flavor, but not spicy. Overall 7.6. read more
First BBQ stop on our trip to Austin and La Barbecue came highly recommended. We arrived around 1:30 and the wait time was around 45 minutes to order. We knew this going on so wasn't surprised by it. For meats, we ordered the brisket, pork ribs, and chipotle sausage. The brisket wasn't super juicy and the ribs were kinda dry. The bbq sauces helped but I was low key expecting more of a flavor profile. The sausage was tasty, kinda fell apart when we put a fork into it but the flavor was there. They were sold out the beef ribs and jalapeño sausage, so maybe I just got the wrong things. For sides we got the garlic pickles and shells & cheese which were both really tasty. The chipotle slaw though, way too much pepper for my liking and ended up only taking a couple bites. In total with tax and tip we spent around $49 which honestly wasn't bad compared to what I'm used to paying for meals back home. They have plenty of seating outside and even though there were a lot of people, finding a place to sit wasn't a prob at all. read more
The brisket is deliciously moist and flavorful. The pork ribs meat falls off the bone. The Mac n cheese is unique ingredients not original flavor. The only thing I didn't like was the original sausage. It was too spicy and peppery. It is numbs the tongue and intervenes with the flavor of the other meats. Service is friendly and accommodating. Ambience is casual and cool inside. They have a patio with fans. 2 gender restrooms. read more

BBQ here is some of the best that I have had in Austin (or TX), but, unfortunately one star was very close to being knocked off due to the wait beforehand. I wouldn't be upset if the line was unbelievably long and moving - but this line just did not move. There were only approximately 15 or so groups ahead of us and we were in line for well over an hour. I am not sure what made it so slow, but if you come be prepared to wait. We split the beef ribs, wet brisket and sides of slaw, mac and cheese and kimchi pickles. Both the beef ribs and wet brisket were exceptional. I would skip the cole slaw - something did not taste quite right. Other groups ordered the sandwiches, which also looked phenomenal. read more

Simple name, simple ordering system, system but ELEVATED and AMAZING food! La Barbecue blew me away! Another spot where extensive research was done to find the best bbq spot in all of ATX. This one is owned by one of the only female pit masters in TX, which I think is pretty darn cool. I understand there's a battle of the barbecue between this place and a few others but specifically another popular spot nearby that rhymes with Perry Smack's. Did not get a chance to try the other spot so can only speak for la Barbecue but it was PHENOMENAL. The best Mac and Cheese I've ever had in my life -- and I don't say that lightly. Let's discuss. Ordering - you stand in what can be a wrap around line at times (a lot of times) outside and they wave you in to order. I kind of like this system as it prevents a bottleneck by the front counter. Super easy. Quick. We got lucky. Thursday around lunch it wasn't slammed, I'm guessing because of the rain. Saturday we were at a brewery across the street and it was a different story. It was packed that day! They close at 3, so plan accordingly. Restaurant - Simple. Southern. A lot of (covered) outdoor seating. Cool decor. Bathrooms are a riot, check em out. Staff - extremely nice! Efficient. Food - I feel like the Heavens opened as I typed that word. I was able to sample a slice of brisket and it was so delicious. I got the chopped brisket sandwich. As a Carolina girl, I'm picky about my barbecue and wanted to give something else a shot. Oh man, hit the spot! The meat is spicy, juicy, packed with flavor. I opted for onions and pickles on mine. I'm also a sauce queen so I tried every sauce option on the table. The two darker ones were my jam and a great combo. The "shells and cheese" or Mac & Cheese. Y'all. It is to die for. That cheese sauce is life changing. Seriously. Order it. Then order extra to go! You won't regret it. So which barbecue spot reigns supreme? Still TBD, but I'm confident this one is a real contender. They've got the barbecue game figured out! read more

This place is worth the wait! We got there and the line was around the building! We waited about an hour in line for our turn to enter and place our order. We kinda got the feeling like it was like the scene from Sinfield...the Soup Nazi...place your order and move down the line. Well actually they were very nice, but only 1 group allowed in at a time. Well getting back to the BBQ...the brisket is what we were there for and it did not disappoint! It was so moist and had a peppery crust! It was heavenly! We got several pounds and flew it home with us to Seattle in a YETI cooler! And by the time we got home it was still warm! And still delicious! Highly recommend both...La Barbecue and the YETI cooler! read more

Came around 12pm on a Saturday during spring break and waited about 3.5 hrs. By 2pm, only 3 hours after opening, their ribs and sausages were all sold out. Normally, I don't mind waiting, especially since I know that it's common with barbecue, but here, they weren't even near capacity. For me, it was just a bit frustrating cause they could easily optimize the queue better and decrease the wait. Once you're inside, the service is great and the staff are very friendly, but the wait outside was quite miserable I'd say with no shade. They do have water, but we didn't know till we turned the corner and were almost at the door. Food was great no doubt. The brisket was so tender and juicy. Mac was exactly how I love my mac: creamy, velvety, and hearty. Frito pie was also good. Sad that we didn't get to try the ribs or sausage. read more

I'm not from Texas, and when I heard Austin has an incredible barbecue scene, I knew I had to try it out! A friend took me to La Barbecue, and to say it was delicious would be an understatement. I can no longer enjoy the barbecue I eat back home because it simply won't match the tasty feast I had here! The ribs fell off the bone. The brisket was fork tender, and the rub had a nice kick from the black pepper. Best mac and cheese I've had in a while. The pulled pork was tender and packed with flavor. The experience is unique - one party goes in at a time, and they build your platter of goodness right in front of you. The line moved quickly, and we only waited about 25 minutes. A truly authentic BBQ experience was worth every penny! read more

Came here after reading the michelin star hype, they are legit. Came here before open on a thursday and the line wasnt too bad. About a 15 min wait and they have a lot to park in. Plenty of seating and the service here is excellent. Got a pork rib and beef brisket and were very happy with it. Brisket was so flavorful and moist. Pork rib also delicious and fall off the bone good. Will be back to try the sides and other meats read more

I was in town for the Clemson vs. Texas football game and knew I had to try this BBQ spot, and I'm so glad I did. I arrived on Friday about 15 minutes before opening, and once the doors opened, it took less than ten minutes to get inside and order. While waiting in line, a staff member came out to take drink orders, which was a great touch. Once inside, I mentioned it was my first time, and the staff let me sample the brisket and turkey, both of which were phenomenal. I told them I wanted to try a little bit of everything, and they portioned everything perfectly. However, the real standouts of the meal were the chipotle sausage and mac and cheese, both of which were absolutely out of this world. I can't wait to come back and eat here again! read more

I've been here a fair number of times and it just isn't in the upper echelon of spots that I'd prioritize or recommend. It's good, but for the price you raise the bar. First experience at a "Texas bbq" and it did not disappoint! The pork rib fell off the bone, the pulled pork sandwich was very seasoned, and the Mac was surprisingly seasoned and cheesy as well! The line moved pretty well. You walk right in and order, no way to reserve seating indoors before ordering. Only tip is to be prepared to spend some $, every once in a while it's worth it! read more
Dua Lipa ate here, so naturally, I had to check this place out. Given that this place is already famous, there was a long line wrapping around the restaurant. My friend and I were already committed to dining here though, so we sucked it up and waited it out. However, I'm not sure if it was worth it. We waited approximately two hours, which would have been fine if there weren't so much empty seating inside the restaurant as we were in line. Also, when we ordered our food, they prepared our platter within seconds. With ample seating and quick food prep time, I'm confused on what the hold up was. But I am sure there is a valid reason as the staff were kind and patient. By the time we ordered, a majority of their signature meats were swiped from the menu, including their brisket and ribs. We were left with shredded brisket, their tri-tip, and a sandwich -- all of which were admittedly delicious but I don't think I would wait 2-3 hours again for. read more

Quality BBQ, solid bark and smoke on the brisket, ribs were ok. Worthy of a solid 4. But what I can't get over is the fabricated lines. Poor logistical layout that requiring patrons to stand in line for 1hr plus for what should be 30 mins max is inexcusable. read more

I'm gonna start off by saying that the staff and the food were excellent!! However, the experience here was kind of awful because we were in line for around three hours in the hot Texas Sun. It's a small counter space so they are only allowing one party at a time inside to place your food order. There was plenty of seating inside once you ordered and got your food. Because of this, though the line was excruciatingly long and there's really not much shade. They do offer umbrellas, but most of them were broken. Apparently the beef ribs were the main thing to get on Friday, Saturdays, and Sundays, but they were already sold out by the time we arrived at the counter. They sold out pretty much two hours in to their opening. Their brisket is the next big item you must get. It was so tender, juicy, well smoked, and delicious. It was so good. It almost made the way worth it... Almost. The pork ribs are all so fabulous and tender. The chipotle and cheese sausages were a bit salty for me. Sides were honestly just meh. The curry potato salad was unique, but had a weird bitter after taste when it was combined with my sausage and brisket. The pickles were nice and vinegar which brought a lot of refreshing relief from the heaviness of the barbecue. All in all, I would go back again, but if there is any line past rounding the corner to the restaurant, I would probably leave. Finally checked out this east side meat staple. We arrived around 3pm on a Sunday and picked off the last of the brisket, some turkey, jalapeño sausage, regular sausage, shells & cheese, black beans, pickles and jalapeños, and some bread. We washed it all down with some Mexican coke and some local beer. It wasn't too crowded, but it had obviously been not long before we arrived. The staff were all friendly and offered meat samples. The bathroom art is worth a gander- truly well done and different. Our tab was around $170 for 4 people, so it isn't cheap. But is it worth it? Yes. Go get the meat. And the shells! Compared to Franklins the brisket was fattier and a little less flavorful. But the sides shined whereas Franklins do not. I love sides, so this really sold me. Also compared to Franklins, it's on par price wise, if not a little less and less of a wait. I'll be back! read more

My favorite bbq spot when I lived in Austin. Whether you're a local or just in town for the weekend, you'll be greeted with wonderful hospitality and sensational food. Brisket is of course a given, but I especially recommend the macaroni shells. Simply a must try. read more

There's always a line - usually at least 30 minutes. I've been there before opening and been the 30th person in line. It's worth the wait though!

I'm fairly certain they only allow pre-ordering by the pound. But if you pre-order, they do let you eat it there as opposed to some other BBQ places in the area that you require you to take it out.
How's the lunch crowd on a Friday?
I was there on a Tuesday and the wait was more than an hour. It would not be less on a Friday. If you order online 3 days in advance, you can skip the line and pick up your order at the window on the side patio. That's what I would do in the future.…
