Traveling throughout Italy for the past two weeks, we were recommended to this establishment from the hotel we were staying. This establishment is very secluded and hard to find, therefore it was mostly local patrons amongst us, which normally we absolutely love, but for some unforeseen reason, that was definitely contributors for our bad experience. The locals seated around us were awfully rude, the food was mediocre compared to the price we paid, and the house wine terrible. I wouldn't waste my money here. Look elsewhere. read more

Absolutely divine!!! I have been in Italy for 2 weeks and this Resturant was hands down the best meal I've had . The service was amazing , the staff all incredibly friendly and the food was mouth watering!!! All the people I was with adored their meals as well . I've been all over Italy and a know a good experience at a restaurant when I have one. And this was one. I was happy to see some pasta dishes with fish as opposed to just shellfish as is typical. Not cheap but not really expensive either. The service was attentive and friendly. I'm always wary in tourist areas. The night before we ate in Sorrento by the water and was disappointed. Should have been tipped off when I was offered car pick up and drop off, we arrived late. This place... no worries, you won't be disappointed. read more

The service was very slow even with a reservation. The food was not great. My measure of a good Italian restaurant is spaghetti and meatballs and I think these were frozen meatballs from a store. Dinner for 2. The place was full, nice place. Ordered ravioli and grouper fish. The grouper dish was in a kind of soup, without any taste and is not recommended. The pricing of 25€ is completely out of logic!!! The ravioli was ok but not more for such place. The cream brûlée was the best on this dinner. This was a nice find in Sorrento. Generally the hotel's recommendation is not the best. In this case it was a good choice. The owner wanders the dining room the whole time watching the staff. They have an interesting arrangement. One gentleman takes each table's order and then you are served by a server. Since you are on the Gulf of Naples, go with the fish choices. We had an amazing Bufalo Mozzerella with Parma ham as an appetizer. We chose the mixed grilled fish grilled and the pasta with crab sauce. Both were delicious. especially the grilled fish. Terrific flavors. For dessert we had the assorted fruit ice. The local lemons added intense flavor. They of course served us complementary local Lemoncello to close out the meal. Part of the appeal of this spot is the crazy décor with assorted art depicting the explosion of Vesuvius. Also they have an amazing wine list. read more

We had a wonderful experience at La Basilica. It is set back in an alley with very romantic indoor and outdoor seating. They had a musician singing and playing guitar moving from table to table. We had the cured meat and cheese plate, which was excellent. They brought out a couple pieces of delicious pizza on the house as well. My wife had the lasagna and I had a spiny lobster and large macaroni noodle pasta dish. Mine was delicious but the lasagna was truly excellent. The tomato sauce on all dishes was especially flavorful. Great wine selection as well. I highly recommend checking this place out. read more

My wife and I had a fantastic meal and experience at La Basilica tonight. We had monkfish in lemon sauce and crab ravioli with zucchini sauce and both were excellent. The house red wine was great too. I felt guilty, but had to try their pizza as I heard it was incredible and they have a brick oven...I ate the entire thing! The waiter brought us some delicious limoncello and espresso to complete our meal...definitely will come back to this quiet, lovely, hidden gem in Sorrento. read more

This place is a hidden gem. The place was recommended by our tour guide after all the other tourists had left and she was going to her home in Sorrento. She said they had the best pizza in sorrento and she was right. It is off the beaten path in an alley off the main square. We ordered the pizza caprese which is the same thing as Margherita except with buffalo mozzarella and local Sorrento tomatoes. It was fab! We also had a nice bottle of Taurasio which was relatively well priced. The place is large and can accommodate large groups but was good for couples too. Would come here again if ship wasn't leaving. read more

The sauce was an incredible balance of flavors...I kept trying to taste it bit by bit to decipher the ingredients. Delicious! This place is amazing! I randomly came across it walking down a quaint street and felt like I had to stop by. They had a guitarist/singer and a very homey & romantic ambience. I got the lobster pasta with pistachios, broccoli ala sorrentina, and lemon delight. The food was amazing and very reasonably priced, and the service was the best I've seen in this area. The staff was very attentive, friendly and quick. They even give you a slice of their pizza to start. Highly recommend it! read more

I felt the meal was overpriced. We sat outside, we had a mozzarella carroza appetizer, lemon fish of the day and the chicken with peppers. The fish was over cooked, dry with no taste. The mozzarella was 18 euro and very doughy. The chicken was on the bone, it tasted good but was a lot of work. The last thing that really turned us off was that they put a tip card in the bill. Both tables next to us were seated, had their orders taken, and had their drinks and appetizers delivered. We even made eye contact with the waiters, but no luck. We got up and walked out. Best pizza in Sorrento! We didn't even order a pizza, they just brought us slices to try and it was melt in your mouth amazing, we had planned to go back and get the pizza but didn't make it sadly. The food we did order was delicious also, except the salted cod - something was way off, was super fishy and tasted rotten. They immediately brought us another dish - salmon - that was cooked perfectly and was seasoned well and tasted yummy. The asparagus soup was good and fresh. Best grilled octopus I have had! The crab-filled ravioli was really delicious! The mushroom pasta was not extraordinary but was pretty good, made with fresh pasta. The atmosphere inside and out is awesome! I can't say enough about this place. The waitress was amazing. the food was incredible. we had a large party of 19 people. We had pizza and different types of pasta and tiramisu. The pizza and Tiramisu was the best we had ever eaten. We had a 5 year old in our party that got very sick from heat exhaustion and vomited serval time around where we were eating outside and the waitress and other wait staff was wonderful they made us very comfortable and told us no worries and they took care of it by bringing mops out right away. They never made us feel embarrassed just the opposite they constantly tried to make us feel at easy about the situation. A great experience and amazon food and staff. I must place to eat. read more

Had walked by this restaurant twice during a 5 day stay in Sorrento. Trusted Yelp reviewers once again and was not disappointed. This restaurant is on an alleyway and is not a great outdoor seating setting. What makes up for that is the pasta and the great wine list. Had Tortellini and Paparadelle with porcini. Pasta dishes were both perfect. Only food knock is the extensive menu that is hard to navigate with it's 4 pages of specials along with multiple pages of standard fare. Recommend by our hotel (I'll get to that review shortly) and they have outdoor seating but, mediocre food, mediocre service, and owners/managers yelling at servers which creates quite an uncomfortable environment. They have a guitar player that comes around playing music in your face, only adding to the discomfort. Prices are inflated and then they have the audacity to add things onto your bill that you didn't order (no servico or coperto here) like dessert you never ate (8,00 euros) or overcharging you on your wine. If you order vino della casa, just note that they will add about 8,00 euros to what's listed there by giving you "another bottle". Our server wouldn't correct this, we had to speak to the manager to get it solved. They are clearly a struggling restaurant to be pulling these antics and we were not the only party they did this to, we saw others at the restaurant return their bill for corrections. Save yourself the trouble and just go elsewhere. read more

Our driver from AP Tours recommended this restaurant to us (Sept '13) and it was fantastic. It was a quiet spot and the service was very attentive. Every dish we had was absolutely delicious. We started with a pizza for appetizer, and it was the best we had during our time in Italy. My son loved his main course (ravioli) so much, that he ordered a second plate.
